Today we talk about why there is moss, mold, or mildew growing on your pavers and what you can do to prevent this from happening. This involves planning the project in advance taking into consideration the surrounding environment. It also could involve ongoing maintenance to clean the surface of the pavers and the jointing compound.

It’s so funny the different beauty standards around the world. I love moss! It’s a primary goal in Japanese gardens, and many PNW gardens. Moss = no weeds! (Through natural competition) Obviously not good indoors or on walking surfaces, but outdoors moss means stability, longitivtiy, and balance. Bare cracks to me look unsettled and exposed to weeds and heat. Moss means cool shade and water retention. 😊

In the right scenarios I love moss. Especially with natural stone. Thank you for sharing!

I just had my back garden all done 1 year ago and it was supposed to be sealed in the joints with cement but there is alot of mold on the joints. Is this because it wasn't sealed properly because there are ALOT of faults on my patio and I am really angry and upset that the guy that did it cut so many corners. He didn't even finish the edging or put the correct steps in that I asked for. I spent every penny I had trying to make it my relaxing oasis But now I am stuck with what I have 😢. he said he can't take the steps out because they are glued on aswell and when ibasked him to do them how I wanted with the stones matching the patio NOT just blocks. What do I do?

It would likely have to do with too much moisture due to not enough slope, poor base material, too much shade. I’m sorry to hear about this!

We have a display of different Cambridge pavers at our newly built shop but the builders didn’t cut the grade of our land low enough so we have minimal pitch away from our building and water and moisture just sits there our poly sand never fully activates and it’s always wet and started growing moss within 6 months no idea what to do.

Perhaps depending on the base you would want to install a semi-permeable jointing compound to let the water flow through the joints
