Why is My Camellia Plant not Flowering?

Camellias only flower for a few weeks of the year, so for the other 11 months they are generally forgotten. This is a mistake and can be disastrous for the following spring if they are neglected over the summer months - especially during periods of drought which are becoming increasing common! Why, because if your Camellia becomes heat or water stressed over the summer its can react to this by dropping its flower buds? This video explains how to prevent this.

I have just paused the video to go and check my camellia, I have only had it since December and it is in a large pot. I looked at the buds which had I not watched would not have known they were there. Anyway, once again a very useful video for me and I have just given it a good drink despite it having rained today on and off. Thank you

Hi Susan and thanks for the comment. I'm glad the video was of use to you. Pot grown camellias will be more prone to heat and water stress than those in the ground. Kind regards Simon

I'm having an issue with a mandevilla plant. May I email you a photo? If so, to what email? Thanks

Hi Pinkie, I hope that you will understand but I am not really keen to publish private contact details on this forum. I have always found the mandevilla to be quite easy to grow and I have even seen large specimens grown outside on south-facing walls down here where I live. If you are growing it as a house plant then I would recommend potting it on and getting it outside. It will need hardening off first so start it off in full shade then over the next week or two slowly get it used to morning light for a couple of hours each day , building it up to full sun over that time period. Kind regards, Simon

Thought my leaves dropping was due to over watering?

Annoyingly, plant leaves will drop for both underwatering and overwatering. Experience will teach you which one is the issue. Simon

Hi Cindi, you are very welcome. I just felt that this was one of those problems that isn't generally known about and was easy to resolve. I should have mentioned that pot grown camellias are even more susceptible to this. Simon
