😂 so true. I personally think the buttons on the steering wheel for wipers and indicators are simply stupid and a big step to the wrong direction just for the sake of doing something different. It’s impossible to use for example indicating out from a roundabout or indicating out from a parallel parking spot without checking the location of the buttons , etc and can’t see any upside either.

It would be great if people compared the refreshed version with the 2021-2023 version, where the suspension was already a large improvement from the pre-2021; I know the refreshed version is significant step up comfort wise, but I think this comparison would be better than going back to the first. One big omission (a US car issue) is the lack of the second door seal you find on nearly all European/Japanese cars, even cheap ones. I added an aftermarket secondary door seal to my Tesla and it made a 3db improvement, especially around the bottom of the passenger door at the front and lost other noises and improved that door thump on closing. Worth doing yourself, takes about 1 hour.

Hi Lars, thanks for the great review of the refreshed Tesla Model 3. You always do a fantastic job of your videos. The only suggestion I have is that when comparing Tesla to other EVs, I think one of the biggest selling points is Tesla’s charging network. I notice that very few of the RU-vid channels I watch mention Tesla’s network when comparing EVs, and yet I think that is one of the single biggest factors to consider when buying an EV. Talk about range anxiety, imagine buying a VW ID3 in the U.S. and then having to rely on the Electrify America charging network. 😂. I haven’t bought an EV yet, but I would only buy a Tesla due to their charging network.
@ChAnimations
@ChAnimations 10 месяцев назад
the charging network is not so much an issue in Europe, because other charging networks beside Tesla's are quite strong and you can charge your Non-Tesla at every Supercharger already (That's because every EV sold here in the last decade has the european type 2/CCS charging port). So I guess that's the reason why the european reviewers don't mention this point anymore.

Clearly you do not drive. Driving on a straight road and indicating from a position where the wheel is straight. Fine. On a roundabout when you have the wheel cranked over and the indicate to leave and the button are upside down on the wrong side of the wheel... then what, bear in mind there are normally lots of cars around you, you might be crossing multiple lanes... it does not work.

This car drives great indeed. Before this, I only drove BMW for almost 10 years, which also drives fantastic, but with that brand you have to pay a lot more money for a comparable experience. The range of the car is magnificent. Even in erratic commuter traffic, I can easily maintain a range of 450-500 km in 'chill'-mode. However, the push-button turn signals are fine at standard intersections and highways, but are a serious problem, sometimes even frustrating, when taking roundabouts. You should never have to look for where the turn signal is, especially when you're in a turn that you can't take without moving your hands on the steering wheel. After having driven this car every day for more than 3 weeks, I am not yet used to it. Other areas for improvement (will probably be fixed later with a software update): The 'auto' mode of the windshield wipers currently switches on and off far too late, and then almost always switches unnecessarily to the highest wiper speed. Hopefully there will be an update for that soon. In addition, I honestly do not understand why the 'auto' mode switches back to the previous manual setting instead of off. I would also like to see a possibility for shortcuts, with which you can, for example, quickly turn lights on or off, if the Tesla does not do this automatically itself.

@guiltyspark659 10 месяцев назад
I reject your claim that it's anxiety that gives us pause. It's pragmatism. You cannot beat the eyes-off, intuitive design of a column shifter. There's a reason most trucks and police cars come with column shifters still and that is because emergencies still exist and always will. I'm not sure you would want to be fiddling with a screen while trying to avoid a mudslide, avalanche, carjacking, roll-away car, or whatever other millions of less-than-ideal situations that could happen at _any_ point in time, without warning. Even trying to get your car unstuck from something by "rocking" it would be infuriating with a digital screen shifter. During those somewhat rare, but ever-looming circumstances, you still need something physical, simple, and reliable there to be manipulated quickly, especially when subjected to a high stress situation where people tend to panic. A screen that needs you to be looking at, barehanded (Winter, Work), and sometimes doesn't register your finger swipe cannot provide that over a physical shifter. It is objectively impractical to have a Swipe Shifter as it is a detriment to the driver when they need simplicity the most.

I have 3 cars. Each car has a different function for the right stalk. Gear selector, Turn signal, or Wipers. Muscle memory is useless. When I get in my Volvo V60 after having driven my Tesla M3 instead of selecting drive, the wipers start up. Etc. This is crazy. Remove the stalks. All functions need to be visible, easily accessed and inconsistency between manufacturers eliminated.
@Healtreach
@Healtreach 10 месяцев назад
Hi Lars, (Edit after owning the car for 2 weeks) The turn signal issue is something you so get used to and is primarily an issue in small roundabouts but for me after about a week (i drive 95% highway) i was used to it fully. The gear selection is a non issue at all and most of the time i wouldn’t use it due to my driving needs. Though if you do a bunch of three point turns i would expect a few days to get used to it as well. The thing with electric cars is that you can change drive mode while going roughly 7-10 km/h so you can technically do it quick when you are used to it. This is my first tesla and one thing i somewhat expected but didn’t realize the “severity” of is that everything is camera based and when the car gets super dirty driving in snow and salted roads then you might as well kiss the usefulness of the front camera goodbye unless you use washer fluid very very often.. the car also very often has warnings (not errors) about cameras losing visuals needed for guided systems to function. With that being said then the car is very lovely to drive and when cameras and not blocked by salt and snow then EAP - Enhanced Autopilot is a very very comfortable feature to help you get home more relaxed due to you “only” needing to pay attention to the road and what happens around you and not all the small speed adjustments and small adjustments of steering. Well recommended! If any questions then let me know! Original comment below. Great words and review of the car! I'm one of the "few" folks that think that the loss of stalks is NOT an issue at all and just a new thing to get used to and honestly i've practised in my current ICE car and it really really doesn't matter too much! It feel nice and easy still. Only thing i'm bummed on is that they removed the front bumper camera they showed in the first renders of the car and now i also just learned that at least the first deliveries is not even able to have it retrofitted as the plug on the PCB doesn't have room for it.. Sucks.. but hey they should be able to improve Tesla Vision a lot more with the current cameras i believe but they just need to priorities it a bit more as the front object detection/distance detection is honestly the biggest drawback currently when it comes to parking. But hey good thing we have our own eyes and driving experience to judge like the good ol days.. though that shouldn’t be an excuse for Tesla to ignore the obvious issue! Anyways looking forward to getting my highland LR delivered mid to late december! Have a great day!

Thanks for the vid Lars! Re Propulsion vs AWD: you're supposed to charge the Propulsion LFP battery to 100% on a regular basis, so 554km of range, whereas you're supposed to charge the AWD battery to 80% on a regular basis so 678*0.8 = 542,4km of range. So, basically you'll only use the extra range on long trips where both cars are supposed to supercharge up to 80% after wich, charging is much slower. True the AWD will give you a better acceleration and a better traction control but is it worth the extra money (13k in my country)?
@360theosiris
@360theosiris 10 месяцев назад

@ricarmig 10 месяцев назад
1) the LR costs more but you have more power, more range at 100% battery, a little better equipment and materials 2) no battery should be charged frequently to over 80% BUT the LFP tech needs to calibrate the battery gauge. And as the LFP last more cycles, doing that is not so bad as on NCM batteries. 3) if you go in a long trip you can use 100% of the battery and the LR will let you run longer; also 80% from the LR are more km than with 80% from the SR 4) if you use that car rarely on long trips, then the SR is by far the best choice; if you drive more or less often on highways, specially full (sports, kids and their stuff, etc) then the LR is the better choice. In my case (around 50-60 km/day then at weekends some trips with kids and baggage) I charge my model Y LR from 20 - 60% during the week when needed, then up to 90% for longer trips (it’s more than enough to go at high speed and reach a charging point). 5)Though, I had my fair share of problems with being too short on battery level to thank the LR: I drove to a part of my country less developed, I had in mind two charging points (non tesla) and BOTH were out/off. So I had enough battery to reach a third one (I drove at 100kmh and reached it with 5% left😅…)

There are actually programmable buttons to buy from another manufacturer, you can see it on RU-vid. there are also speed indicators that you can put in front of the steering wheel to buy. At least that fits the previous version

I live in Scandinavia, here we have many months with snow and ice My tesla 3 model year 2019 I have learned the hard way is not made for this climate to take some things the handles freeze so I can't get into the car regardless of whether I use the app to heat the car 2 hours before I go the few times this helps then another phenomenon occurs when i open the door and the window won't go down due to ice and i get in the car and close the door then the window explodes because the window hasn't gone down when there is a lot of snow on the car and I open the rear hatch, most of the snow falls straight into the trunk when it rains the same thing happens the hatch is not water tight and it is not fun to have the hatch filled with water these are just some of the problems i have with my Tesla 3 the only country in Scandinavia that usually has mild winters is Denmark, so Lars is lucky here's a video that pretty well shows what I'm talking about ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WSq0u5_0mhM.htmlsi=wOkFTrbGs-t-RSLC

In my current, non-Tesla car, having physical controls really saved the day when my touchscreen Infotainment system decided to conk out. So, have touchscreen as a nice option but there should always, always, always be the ability to do a manual override of the computer-controlled systems.

I agree for some necessary functions but blinkers are not necessary. People in the US hardly use them even when they work correctly
@pauld6967
@pauld6967 10 месяцев назад
@@jaymepechan2115 I know that's a commonly held belief but not necessarily true and even if true in your area, that doesn't excuse not having the proper mechanism. Over the last few years they have begun putting in roundabouts and the Electric Vehicle Man channel has a good video on why the controls-in-steering-wheel are a hazard. @@pauld6967 if you look at the dmv manual, they even state that blinkers are not required. In fact, the driving test tests you on the proper hand signals, in case your vehicle does not have blinkers or they do not work.
@pauld6967
@pauld6967 9 месяцев назад
@@jaymepechan2115 The issue is not the presence or absence of turn signal indicators with a vehicle. At issue is the control mechanism for activating the turn signal indicator lights on the Model 3. The traditional stalk has functioned well for decades and is intuitive in its operation: Left is down (just like your left hand is doing as you turn the steering wheel to the left) and Right is up (again, the hand motion matches the direction the stalk will be moved) AND the stalk is in the same spacial location at all times no matter the degree to which the steering wheel is turned.

Those blinkers are perfectly fine in the US (highway and intersections), however, in Europe we have many many roundabouts, which means signaling that you are exiting it when your steering wheel is turning steeply and the blinkers are now facing up and down. It doesn’t matter that you like it or not, something as important for safety as signaling should be a no brainer, easy and fast to engage in any circumstances, always in the same place and same movement for muscle memory usage. I love the car though, but it is what it is, the world is broad and that design is limiting

In Europe we have roundabouts and with the direction indicators that is a huge problem on this Tesla... If you want to meet the high security standards and not getting fines all the time as soon as you turn. You need the nirmal turning arm indicator and not buttons on the steering wheel (which turns all the time and you need to indicate the opposite sense in the roundabout).

Also, the black interior is lackning the alcantara door sides which the LR has. White interior is the same. Other than that I think everything is the same.

To me, it's having a nice instrument cluster, a heads up display, a cool transmission gizmo, more detailed ambient lighting, small details in the cabin, playing with different materials... New Model 3 gets much closer to it in some areas, farther away a bit with lack of stocks. Instead of removing those, I would have put paddles in to control regen and stuff. Maybe a shortcut from normal to chill and back. To me, Tesla is going in a direction where they don't want you to drive at all, the car can control the modes, power delivery, amount of regen and transmission stuff much easier than you can, especially if you have FSD. The latest model goes even more in that direction.
@wemakecookie
@wemakecookie 10 месяцев назад
@@badbasicThe Tesla gives you a lot of control on how you want to drive. Many different selections to fit your needs. To me the less cluttered layout is far superior. Paddles to control regen seems really unnecessary. But we just have difference of opinion and this is mine.
@badbasic
@badbasic 10 месяцев назад
@@wemakecookie They took away regen control on the new model, now there is only one mode. We can debate all we want about what we prefer, but in a BMW you feel more engaged when driving. Different suspension settings, regen control, as well as that silly boost function on the left paddle which makes you feel like you downshifted on an ICE car😁 You even have a silly launch control where the car shakes as if you're reving it, not to mention Hans Zimmer noises☺️

I don't think it makes anyone a "fanboy" if they are super enthusiastic about a great product and company. You're a fanboy when you blindly stick with a company that sells inferior products, just because of brand loyalty. This will all go away at some point, though. I don't see too many people walking around with a Nokia phone.
