Back in the 50’s I spent a lot of summer weekends with my father at a boat repair shop called Little river landing. The owners, and my parents were friends. They sold fish bait, marine fuel for boats, and had a snack bar. The snack bar had a pool table and a snooker table. They were massive tables and I have always wished I could have one. It wasn’t until I began watching your videos that the thought occurred to me that I could find one, buy it, and restore it. Thanks for showing the way! Any videos on antique table repair, Disassembly, will be eagerly watched .

This was awesome , came here after watching your video on the 3 types of pool tables and I'm loving the content. I've been a player for 5 or so years now , and I finally pulled the trigger on a sweet deal for a 7ft home table. When presented with the felt options I stood with the traditional green. I've played on black , blue , burgundy , and that terrible light blue colored felt and figured since the majority of tables have green felt , I should practice on that same color. You made such a good point about the lint and hair being visible , along with what color I would want to constantly look at . I factored in all those thoughts in a pinch when I made the choice , after watching this I'm even more content with that decision considering it does absolutely look amazing in contrast to the rail and floor wood color in my basement. I keep it covered when not in use , don't use it as a laundry or storage table , and put the fear of god in my cat to not even THINK of jumping on it ! LOL. You just earned a new subscriber , keep it coming.

I bought a table with Camel already on it and thought I'd try it for a while to see if I wanted to change it. It's now my favorite and when I redo my table cloth it will be Camel.

I'm finally getting the table of my dreams, and I'm going with Simonis 860 Blue Green. It's the perfect halfway. Some tournaments and pool halls use the tournament blue, most bars and the other pool halls use green. Simonis did a bang up job on it. Most of the Simonis colors are amazing, but they aren't all fun to play on, and if I could give one word of advice, it would be to go to a table retailer and see the letter size color swatches in person and next to each other, and if you can find one to play on somewhere, I HIGHLY recommend it. Everyone sees color differently, and some colors just really suck to play on, and different lighting can make that even worse. A couple that really messed with me were black, which is like staring into an abyss, and was hell trying to judge angles and especially depth perception. Another I did not care for was Simonis camel (or gold), I'm not positive which it was. A lighter (than green) odd color, and even when I wasn't playing, it just almost made me ill to look at. Just awful. One of the few I don't like at all. Wine or burgundy wasn't enjoyable either. Not as bad as black but the same issues, but muted. Red. Real red. I'm sure the orange and chartreuse would have the same issue. If you have good lighting, it is an assault on your eyeballs. Just over saturates everything. 😎 Some people love the different colors. Some people get used to them with time. It's a pretty sizable regret if you get the wrong color, unless you do it yourself or have money to burn, hence the caution. Again, everyone sees color different to varying extents. Also keep in mind, if you have friends that you want to have over, it might not be a good time for them if they have any of the issues I mentioned. You might love the odd color, but it may play hell on their vision, or take a considerable time to get used to it. It's no fun if you're getting smoked every game because you're literally handicapped, and you are used to it and/or love it.

We are living in a HiDef TV world now so I wish we could go back to traditional ball colors and green cloth. Btw Pool Table Magic hosted the 2016 US open with standard balls and green cloth and it was easy to tell the balls apart.

The outdoor game shown in engravings dating back to c.1300, was actually called "Ground Billiards" in English. This is believed to have evolved from older games going back as far as the ancient Persian Empire. It was an obvious move in rainy England to play the same game indoors and then to play it on a table. The playing area on the old picture in the video is just the same as the one used in Ground Billiards, with the single hoop and the king pin.

Great video and great info. I'm just wondering that if pool tournaments are usually played with blue cloth and high intensity high visibility balls, Do the people who always play in pool tournaments have at their home or practice places use the same blue cloth and high visibility balls etc.. I guess I would.

A pioneer video with excellent info!!! Another great video that sets you apart from others! I believe I’ve asked you about another brand of cloth, Andy’s, previously but would be nice if you could compare some off brands against the usual top brands like Simonis and championship. I understand they aren’t cheap but made in China, have a good reputation in many tournaments, and claim better durability over top brands in the market. I got a table I’m restoring for myself now, the imperial brand, Buchanan model, inherited from a friend. I was researching cloth and his family provided me with a brand new Andy’s 988 electric blue, and championship rubber 66 profile, what was such a surprise! A video on different brands would be nice. Also, how do you feel about the electric blue? At the time, they tricked me with questions on what was good for tables, and I’ve mentioned I was considering those brands to restore their brother’s table, so they went ahead and ordered as a pleasant surprise. Again, thank you so much for your videos!

I plan on doing more "review" type videos in the future. And, Andy cloth is one of the products I'd like to review. Personally, I'll steer clear of them until I know more about them. I can't recommend any product to either my viewers or my customers until I've had some hands-on experience with it. There is one thing that automatically makes me leery... CHINA. Doesn't make it bad. But, without knowing anything about it, that's an instant red flag.

@@CreativeRestorations thank you for replying! I thought the same about it but was given by the people I got the table from and it’s not cheap!!!!! It’s very close to a Simoni’s 860 price!!! They got me the 988 I think and it’s thick and nice to touch and it feels like a championship competition or Simonis 860, by my very short experience. I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to find little nuances here and there, based not only on your table mechanics expertise but because you were a pro player, what will give a way more detailed and concise review for your readers! Please, contact them as they seem to be all about publicity and sponsorship. Their website isn’t the best but it’s there for you to check it out. It’s not a website per se but a Facebook page and I don’t have Facebook. I’m still trying to find time to finish up one table so I can sell it to make space for my new slate table so I will install it and see how it goes. I read a lot about it that’s why I was happy with what they got me! They’ve been around for a while and are sponsors of many Asian and some European pro competition titles! Remember my question about the foremost table? You were the only one capable of coming up with some solid info on it!!!! NowI have something to tell the new owner about this table! It is nice, just not slate. Thank you! You’re always so kind and honest that makes it a pleasure to follow you!!!!

I bought my 8' all wood slate table second hand, it came with red cloth. While not Simonis, the red colored cloth is a light shade of red and a high quality weave. While red colored cloth may not have been my first choice, I've been surprised how pleasant the pool playing experience has been. The edges of the balls are easily defined and no discernable eye fatigue. Maybe the "lighter red tone" makes a big difference and explains the pleasant playing experience? None of my friends or family have complained about the red colored cloth. Light red is a rich color for a pool table. Is this really a surprise? After all, two of the most popular colors are purple and wine color, both containing red tint 🤔
@CreativeRestorations
@CreativeRestorations Год назад
My personal favorite color for pool table cloth is camel. None of the balls are that color. So, for me, it provides a nice contrast for seeing the balls (then, again, I'm getting older and my eyesight isn't what it used to be). As for the eye fatigue, I'm just repeating what the studies found. Scientists can be wrong. But, as I said in the video, green is a carry-over from the game's roots as an outdoor sport played on grass. Glad you're enjoying your table!

@@CreativeRestorations I was watching a show on TV where I saw a bright red cloth on a pool table. After seeing this bright red cloth, I went to check the color of my pool table cloth again. This is when I discovered that my pool table cloth is actually not red. It's a weird color, more of a reddish maroon color. It reminds me of a red wine color. Definitely not bright ted. It's quite a beautiful color and this could explain why I haven't noticed eye fatigue.

Thanks for the content! Any thoughts on the olhausen Augusta or should I stick with a brunswick house table? You got any house tables that I should be looking for? I'm kinda overwhelmed with all the options out there.
@CreativeRestorations
@CreativeRestorations 2 года назад
I really like all of Olhausen's tables. I don't know of any of their tables that I would say are "entry level", unlike Brunswick. With Brunswick, you really have to pay attention to which table you're looking at. Whereas, with Olhausen, their tables start in the mid-range. That means, any of their tables are going to be good - provided it's kept in good condition.

I have a black felted Connelly pool table, I have literally just mentioned that same thing to a friend of mine who want's black felt. hilarious. such a great video, thanks for taking the time to make this and read the comments! Q: Why do some tables have rounded pockets and some sharp triangles? Q: How has pool balls changed sizes, official sizes? now vs 20 years ago?(because many of us have been using old pool tables and had to replace ball sizes) Q: Drawing lines on the cloth (baulk line wore off) Q: sometimes people refer to the kitchen as the (D) while sometimes it's just the entire area behind the baulk line, why the confusion?
