Forced Assimilation is no joke. French language schools were illegal in Manitoba from 1895-1979... (give or take some years- lack of enforcement. My parents were schooled illegally in French. Were still here Osti de Tabernak! We even celebrate la St-Jean in my hometown of La Broquerie, MB

Vote for an independent country in Quebec? Funny. Apparently the people in Quebec have never studied the history of the USA. Parts of the USA thought they would be independent and their own country about 160 years ago. After several hundred thousand dead people and four years of fighting, they abandoned that foolish idea.

At least I certainly would :) can't much speak for the rest of the province. But yeah, pretty sure you wouldn't be seen as a threat the way an anglo Canadian would be. I think it might have to do with the Acadians leaving Canada (NS) due to poor treatment by the English, for Louisiana - the large former French territory in the US. Personally, I like that Quebec has a strong French identity and their beautiful language and great cuisine are part of the country. It is unfortunate that there is friction between the 2 factions. Part of the issue is Quebecers are proud people, and the financial center of Canada has moved from MTL to Toronto.
@johnt8636
@johnt8636 2 года назад
@@jdhjimbo The Acadians didn't leave because of poor treatment. They were kicked out. Because they wouldn't agree to take up arms for the British, they were deported. They were scattered along the eastern seaboard of what would be the United States, but in no one area or in one large group. A lot of Acadians made it to quebec. But the largest group of them was deported to France. It wasn't until 1785 that France sent them back across the ocean to Louisiana.

Great video! If forced assimilation leafs to revolution, as it did with the founding of Quebec, then it will also be Quebec's undoing. Their vicious attempts to regulate religion & make life difficult for English speaking Canadians will bite them back. It may take years, maybe even decades, but Quebecers have a very short time to learn to positively maintain their French heritage instead of using tactics reminiscent to those of the British.

It was not the Quebecers who oppressed the other communities for 2 centuries but the English 1)New Brunswick 1871: The king's law suppressing French out of education 2) Prince Edward Island 1877: The public school act suppress French schools in the province. 3) In Manitoba French is abolish as a official language in 1890. 4)Alberta 1892: Alberta proclaime English as a soul official language of legislation and education. 5)The Northwest Territories 1892: Suppression of French schools and suppression of judicial law in French in the courts 6) Ontario 1912: Coming into force of Regulation 17 abolishing French-language education 7) Quebec 1977: Bill 101 protecting French comes into force, English Canada will protest 3 times in court without success 1) in 1979 2)in 1984 3) in 1986 In 2017 in British Columbia, a Francophone community had to fight in court for a meagre subsidy that was repeatedly refused by its province While the English community of Montreal QC has several Universities and 19 super subsidized hospitals and have more service in English than any Community across the country And Quebec had to shut its mouth ,,, Why you English Canadians are unable to shut up yours?

Please let Quebec become its own country so the other provinces of Canada don’t have to keep supporting it supporting it with equalization payments. Quebec would be bankrupt in a matter of years without all the money it gets from all the other provinces it’s actually wild how much money they receive for doing absolutely nothing, and not fair to the other provinces.
