I love tag Heuer and genuinely think their recent releases are serious competition for omega. Put it this way, I'd pick tag Heuer over Breitling. I just like their designs. Couldn't give a **** what people think, especially the watch community!

@bryce380

@@GreekOclockTag Heuer's bad rep stemmed from - imo - (1) lying about their in-house movement which was actually a modded Seiko movement, and (2) losing their brand identity in the pursuit of maximising revenue and capturing a larger share of the market. that's how it all came about, along with their (3) offerings not being the best value at different price ranges. however, @mrb317 is right - their recent releases this year at watches and wonders 2023 knocked it out the park with their revived glassbox design and especially a refresh on their skipper - a coveted watch by many enthusiasts following the Heuer brand - and a watch I'm intending to get! the sentiment towards TAG Heuer is changing, with a lot of influential watch RU-vidrs stating their revised stand on TAG - sure, they may still have a sour taste in their mouth on TAG's poor past decisions, but it's mostly just initial previous bad impressions having settled in and turned sour. Other than that, TAG's primarily decent - depending on which watch you get. proud owner of TAG watches myself (Y)

Tag Heuer has been recently making moves that should have other brands worried. The Skipper is a complete homerun, the Glassbox reverse panda is fantastic, and I really liked the Monaco Night Driver as well, can’t wait to see what else they will bring specifically to the Autavia line… Tag Heuer is well underway to being back to where it once was and being the brand that got me into watches I’m all for it!

Heuer was once a well respected watch manufacturer, but when they were bought and merged with Tag is when things went downhill. They went as far as lying about the movements inside the watches they were manufacturing. All that said, the Monaco, Carrera, and Aquaracer are all iconic lines. It sucks that such a well respected watchmaker has become such a joke in the industry. Kinda the same story as vintage Movado vs current Movado.
@UnknownUser-rb9pd

@@MattSeesGray You do realise that Tag took over Heuer nearly 40 years ago ? One of the big complaints that watch snobs (and the ill informed ) have is that Tag Heuer pushed Heuer away from mechanical watches towards quartz. That conveniently ignores that quartz had become a significant part of Heuer's products for a number of years before Tag took them over ? Especially in stop watches but also in standard wrist watches And then they become even more popular as Tag marketed them very successfully. Tag Heuer are now owned by LVMH who also own Omega, Breguet, Blancpain, AP and Zenith amongst others. Perhaps they have also become jokes ?

Heuer was a watch company. TAG is a holding company of a Saudi arms dealer who knew nothing about watches, had terrible taste, and sold cheap junk to F1 fanboys and James Bond wannabes. It is better now (especially after TAG left), but for people to still refer to the watches as TAGs is absurd, it makes them look foolish

I obtained my grail watch a little over 3 years ago: Rolex, Day-Date in yellow gold, with the machined bezel and bark center links, and a silver dial, Ref 18078. When the bark center links catch the light just right, it's simply dazzling. Even if I find another watch somewhat tempting, I can't imagine taking away wrist time from my Day-Date. As to cleaning it, I use liquid soap, lukewarm water and a soft-bristle toothbrush. Your admonition about using that method on a gold watch is the first time I've ever heard that. As for modding, my brother modified his Sea Dweller by adding a green bezel and a cyclops. It looks just like the Kermit Submariner and only the helium escape valve gives it away, unless you're close enough to read the dial.

Tag Heuer has a branding issue, not a product issue. To me they lost their way (marketing message) from 2000-2020 and recently has taken steps in correcting this. I enjoy their watch design and build quality, especially the automatics at the mid-higher end ($3k+). Tag appears to have recently taken steps in fixing their product image, hopefully this results in changing consumer perception around in a few years.

I hope you’re right. I know a couple of watchmakers who wear them and basically, they’re a good watch. I used to own a 2000 chrono and I’ve still got a pre-TAG model. I agree about the marketing. Reputantional damage is always hard to fix. A rough rule of thumb is that it takes three times as long to claw it back as it does to damage it. I think their biggest errors were in the 2000-2005 era, where, IMHO, the shine really went off.

My grail is my SMP 300. I call my grail because somewhere along the way, I decided if I could never buy another watch again, this one would be enough. Don’t recall if I decided that before or after I picked it up. Yes, it’s pretty much everything I hoped it could be. But it also highlighted for me, how silly and materialistic the hobby can be. I love my SMP, but I can’t really talk about how much I appreciate it without sounding like a flexing asshole. That really forces you to look at yourself and ask, “how much of my life is about the pursuit of stuff?”. So while I appreciate my watches, I think I’m done collecting. Maybe forever. There’s just something about having more watches than you can ever expect to use on a daily basis, that’s become a bit excessive to me. I still love and appreciate watches. There are some more “grail worthy” watches out there that intrigue me (IWC, Moser, etc) but assuming I ever got the money in some windfall, I don’t think I’d buy one. Might buy a farm, instead.

I obtained my grail watch 6 months ago (a Rolex Pepsi) and I have felt pretty underwhelmed. Hard to explain why (I still love the watch) but perhaps reality could never meet such high expectations. It’s just a watch at the end of the day and doesn’t make you ‘feel’ any different. Due to its cost and the increase in watch thefts I don’t wear it often, and when I do I am hyper conscious. This doesn’t make it very enjoyable to own or wear. My favourite watches are the ones that have grown on me over time and I feel more comfortable wearing in public. The only Tag Heuer dial watches I like are the 1000s and the Tag Heuer Super Professional dive watches from year's ago and one of the Valjoux 7750 Carreras

Tag is not a bad watch at all. It falls between casual watches and luxury watches which a lot of people enjoy.

Rolex is not for me. A friend wanted to give me his for a low price but I refused. Being a friend too, I advised him to take it to a local dealer and they sold it for more than double that price. I feel like I'm too young for Rolex. But I think I will always feel that way with Rolex, because I'm not that young anymore... I don't know why... I got myself an Omega Aqua Terra Skyfall. Still very happy after almost a year.

I have owned 3 Tags, still have two of them. Actually great watches for the money and no issues and that is from someone also owning Tudor, Omega, Rolex etc and some watches from the holy trinity. Tags limited editions did the damage I think.

There is anti reflective coating on most watches. Even a soft tooth brush and dish soap could eventually rub it off. I use a very soft cloth that came with a watch and a little water, if necessary. Rub very lightly.

Agree about brown watches. The few I have sit in my watch box. Never go with anything I wear.

Glad you're back M'Lady Jenni... Personally I Love antique pocket watch Minute Repeaters. But now, I'm having my Dad's 14K solid yellow gold Longines Ultra Chron Automatic, having a 14K full mesh wristband restored by a Longines Service Group. It has the date window at 3, and three little diamonds each at the 6, 9, 'n 12. Its case is 35mm, 'n incl the crystal, is a thin 9mm. He bought it in the 60's, but I've yet to ever see another like it. So what is your opinion on Vintage Automatic Longines?

My favorite watch during the 2000s was Tag Heuer, always wanted one. Finally was able to afford one, a Formula 1 model in "panda" colors chronograph. I love it.

I cannot get on board with Rolex. They have been over exposed. Their dealers are horrible. And nowadays their brand has been basically ruined by having become part of the "douchebag starterpack" Most Rolex owners are simply unbearable these days. Plus they are creating a fake exclusivity image while producing around a million watches a year.

Best bracelet when it comes to practicality for me is the one on the Rolex Deep Sea Seadweller, with a great extention system in the clasp (different from those of Submariners), followed by the Titanium pelagos one. I would agree when it comes to beauty, the Moser is a winner.

Grail watch was always a blue dial, green crystal Milgauss and still is. I own a Tudor BB58, Omega Railmaster, Omega 1944 pocket watch, Casioak, Citizen eco drive & finally a Hamilton Scuba khaki which is my daily work wear watch. It’s a tough watch but it gains quite a lot over the week but that’s good as I’m never late for work because of it. The Omega is a lovely timepiece but I still want a Milgauss. These grail watches are only the ones that I could afford to buy. A watch I’d love to own but will never be in the position to afford is the Zeitwerk it’s a work of art but way out of reach.

Just bought me a wonderful watch, a Pulsar 2001 quartz, V103-6059 A2 550061, bought a nice NATO to go with it, the tinplate clasp thingy that came with it is way too small, don't want metal on my skin. A NATO can go into the washing machine :) It cost me €5,- at the flee market. Very elegant looking watch. I wish I knew how much it was when new, and how old it is :)
@CaptainWillyandTheWonderMonkey
I had an issue with my brand new Grande Date, the stem totally pulled out the first time that I set the date. AD sent it to Tag and Tag refused the repair as a customer fault. I called the Tag warranty department and the representative argued with me, basically said that I didn't know how to properly set the time. My AD stepped up and paid the repair cost of $800. Really disappointed in Tag, so I sold my three Tag's, and swore off the brand.

Little to almost no time for Tag talk. But you feel that there's a crowd out there that really like them just by checking the comments section. I guess that bad rep there must be pure parakeeting on the watch community.
