Finally someone who delivers a nice soft spoken review. No over the top neurotic behavior. No B.S. Just a guy looking at a product & giving an honest review. Subbed.
sadly yes. A company i worked for had a number of these and would frequently lose the dongles and end up with us having to throw the units out, or use them as dummies
Some kind of cookie keyboards are tiny, so even though they’re heavy, you can transport him in your bag. I can’t transport this big ass motherfucker in a bag can I
Excellent review. I had one for years and just recently purchased a replacement (the previous one suffered some abuse). One thing no one ever mentions in keyboard reviews is the spacing between the groups of function keys ie. the space between F4 and F5 as well as between F8 and F9. It is critical to help orient my fingers when I use those keys but it seems to have disappeared in recent keyboards for what I can only assume are aesthetic and design reasons. I really appreciate that this keyboard hasn't sacrificed that functionality for the sake of fashion. Also, the calculator button is such an underrated button, I simply cannot live without it.
I still use this keyboard occasionally and it is probably the best layout and features in a keyboard and mouse set for a long time. I find my productivity goes up when using it as my typing accuracy improves and your are right about the calc button. Especially during tax return season 👌🏼
Ding? Ding! This does feel more like a traditional desktop keyboard minus just one Windows logo key. Still, that Power switch on the keyboard is also a nice touch.
The K270 is one of the rare cases where the marketing, the packaging and the photos don't do the actual item justice. It's so much better than it's presented.
I found one of these for $4 at a thrift store in mint condition and love using it so far. It looks like it was literally never used. Mine is the newer version with the updated logo within the past few years. I previously used their K120 and EX100 and I also have many mechanical keyboards, but this one is just so satisfying and has all of the right shortcut keys. Love it so far. Mine was missing the receiver, so I used one from another wireless Logitech mouse I had lying around and paired it to the keyboard using their software. I have been using it for all non-gaming tasks on my home computer for the most part.
Great review, just ordered this today to use wirelessly for my PC when connected to my TV. For the price, dont think i have found a better value for a wireless combo :)
I tried to use a friend's keyboard like that the other week after using a mechanical keyboard for the past 7 years and it was a weird experience. I'd never be able to go back to a membrane keyboard. As for the mouse, I have to use a vertical mouse to keep my carpal tunnel and arthritis from flaring up. Logitech makes a lot of good low priced products and this Logitech combo would be a great buy for school kids, or light home use. But not for someone like me who is writing 7 or 8 hours per day.
GPR you are probably spot on there. Most people using this keyboard are likely to be casual users / gamers / media streamers. For some serious typing a mechanical keyboard is less tiring for prolonged use. What model keyboard do you use?
Which one to buy among the below three and why: 1) Logitech MK270R Link: www.logitech.com/en-in/product/wireless-combo-mk270?crid=1759 2) HP Pavilion 600 Wireless Combo Link: www.amazon.in/HP-Pavilion-Wireless-Keyboard-Mouse/dp/B07FSTX5GH/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 3) Lenovo Essential Wireless Combo Link: www.lenovo.com/in/en/accessories-and-monitors/keyboards-and-mice/keyboard-and-mouse-combos/KB-MICE-BO-Essential-Wireless-Combo/p/4X30M39458
i have one of these, and there is no membrane mushiness, extreme tactility, and it is almost (key word: almost) as nice as my z-88 keyboard. The best membrane i have ever used
Aah so what if the keyboard and mouse are old? I can tell when old tech still pristinely works! Using this now in the immediate moment... The typing and keystrokes feel satisfying. Drag and drop via the mouse also feels fluid. That's some crazy stuff? Three years usage out of two AAA batteries for the keyboard? One year out of an AA battery for the mouse?
Agree, this is a great keyboard, typing on it now, mine's more than 5 years old and has never failed. Maybe 2 sets of batteries in all that time. Just ordered a second one for a new PC at home. Great review, thanks for posting!
With Covid going on and work from home being the new norm, I dug mine out from storage. Although on mine the stand at the back that props the keyboard up had since gave-up crumbling into bits, I ordered a replacement set of stands from China for pretty much next to nothing, and now the keyboard is back in service! Mine is pushing onto 10 years old now, the bottom plastic was once white has now since yellow-ed, and the start menu key is still the old Windows Vista era logo with the orb, but all the keys still work great!
Thank you Mike for a great review. I had already purchased the item online based on the caps lock indicator and price (R469.90 = $ 28.43 including courier) - other online traders were as much as double the price I paid.
Thanks for the feedback, it;s not really a strong selling point for most end users, but a noteworthy add on. Especially for those in workplaces and other crowded places.
I bought the mk270 in February 2015, still looks and functions just as good as the day I bought it. Only drawback is the 2.4ghz signal can be easily interfered with causing mouse n keyboard lag. I solved this within the first year by using a usb hub for the receiver & having it within line of sight.
@@mikesunboxing I've used mine heavily everyday since purchase, surprised it's held up this well since I only paid $20usd. Logitech now sales an upgraded version of this model " mk295 "
Way too good for £20.00 I've tried it and would very much recommend it, 1 problem though, the keyboard is a couple milliseconds more delayed than the mouse, I'm not saying much input lag as there's practically none, just a quick note.
Yup? I notice that too. Even vs. the internal laptop keyboard on the HP DQ1038WM which is almost instant by contrast. BTW, I like your name; A play on a punctuation mark, lol.
It's a good, honest KB and mouse! Best keyboard I ever owned though, hands down (pun not intended), was a Cherry G80 - then again you're paying a lot more. I know it's not really relevant to the nature of this vid but just thought I'd mention it anyway. (Never used a KB so nice.)
Thanks Matt, I remember seeing Cherry keyboards everywhere in the offices I worked in during the early 90's and they always felt "grown up" and a big jump from the C64 keyboard or VIC 20 (if you are old enough to know what that is!) The G80 looks like the kind of ones I remember, but WOW look at the prices! Holy Ballz! What is your daily driver keyboard now?
@@mikesunboxing I have the TECWARE Phantom (87 Key, backlit) atm, it's great but nowhere near as tactile and light as the Cherry (strongly considering repurchasing). I remember the Vic 20 well! It was my first computer (I remember scouring the high street for a 16K expansion cartridge just so I could play 'The Perils of Willy'). The only thing that really irks me a bit these days (thought I can appreciate the benefits) is to make bezels on everything mega-thin. I happen to think keyboards look fantastic when they have a decent frame to them ;)
Matt, The VIC 20 was also my first real computer. I had the base model without the RAM pack and my neighbour had the RAM pack so i had to try and get them to loan me it when i borrowed their tapes. Also my RF lead / adaptor broke after a few days and i remember buying a new one from Commodore and having to wait for what seemed like weeks to get it delivered. Shame Amazon Prime wasn't around then. I must fire up an emulator and play some rockman or jetpac :-) mastertronic 1.99 range was the thing is miss the most at the local news agents.
LOL! I used to buy the Sinclair User and PC Gamer magazines and the games used to advertise on full A4, I would rip them out and stick them all over the walls. It looked better than woodchip :-)
I just bought this at the thrift store for $6. The danged receiver by itself may cost me as much as the mouse and keyboard combo! Guess i'll just by a mouse that comes with a nano receiver.
I have the K260 and I love it but my mouse is M210 which I think is better than the one that comes with MK270 combo. Either way, this combo is AMAZING! :)
That difference in travel and resistance in the key groups between the main typing group and the function keys is no fluke. I had a K120 from new when I was in high school and it felt the exact same way you're describing it. Sadly my example developed a problem with inconsistent feel where some keys would jam when I'm in the middle of a fast session, so I let it go for an NMB keyboard around 2010. Still I was pleasantly surprised it lasted me about 4 years. I'm typing this on a classic Thinkpad and I'm in the market again for my new workspace. This time I'm thinking about going a bit more "upmarket" so I'm debating a MK345 against a MK545 but it's nice to see that they still make this trusty board.
K295 was GREAT, but only in those models labeled Logitech. Those labelled with "Logi" is a completely different product - poor material, more costs reducing.
Any idea how to get this to work with Linux Mint 19.1, before I take it back? Some keys work and others do not. The mouse is FAST! but the keyboard stinks!
Which keys don't work? I've been using the Logitech MK270 keyboard with Linux Mint 18.1 through 19.2 without any problems on several different computers. It worked fine upon installing Mint and no setup was necessary ... just plug in the USB dongle and it was up and running.
@@stevepike9515 Steve, I ended up taking it back. I don't know what the deal was. I got a cordless mouse, and sticking with my corded keyboard. Thanks!
@@mikesunboxing that was the quickest response I've gotten on a video that's years old. But thanks so much! I think I'll stick with my old keyboard then, since the only reason I was interested is to have one less usb receiver haha. Good video anyways!
I think around 12 feet or around 4 metres is probably the furthest i would like to be for accurate response. Saying that i have used these on a TV set to remotely control computers in a scene and there were easily 20 feet or 6+ metres away at least.
Getting this keyboard in the layout that I want is a real mess. I've just got it in the "US international layout" and it's just the layout on the video. i was certain that this is called UK layout.
@@mikesunboxing Actually what I got had hash on the 3. But the problem was that left shift was shorter to accomodate extra key with backslash and pipe chars on it. I had to return two keyboards... and now I'm trying to buy one with UK layout.. and your comment makes me loose hope xD
ok. Looks like the layout that I want is not sold in Poland/Europe. I've only found out after visiting American Logitech site. What they list in Poland as 'Anerican layout' has differenent catalog number than the thing sold on American logitech site. And can't find ANSI layout anywhere here.
A word of caution regarding the batteries for the keyboard. Yesterday my keyboard stopped responding (the mouse still worked). I figured the batteries needed replacing since it had been a couple of years since they were last changed out. Turns out one of the batteries became corroded and it would not slide out of the battery slot. I had to use a screwdriver to pry it out. I then took apart the keyboard to clean off the corrosion on the terminal. Moral of the story: remove your batteries every so often (maybe once or twice a year) and check for corrosion.
Hi, I use Logitech G700 mouse and need a new keyboard. The problem is I need a tri-lingual keyboard (En/Heb/Ru), and only few descent options are available, one of which is this old MK270 combo. Now, G700 already has a nano-receiver. Do you think it will recognize K270 keyboard? I'd really appreciate your answer. Thank you.
Thank you for reply! Are you saying that each Logitech receiver is specific to the model? Or that mouse receiver (that of G700) will not work with a keyboard? Yes, the combo receiver is older and lower class, but I wasn't intended to use it, I was hoping my existing G700 receiver (being superior and more sophisticated model) is capable of recognizing K270 keyboard, so I wouldn't even have to use the combo receiver in addition to G700 receiver...
OK, after reading your first answer again, I made a small research regarding Logitech "unifying devices". You original guess was spot on, G700 is NOT a unifying-ready device and its receiver is a dedicated non-unifying receiver, so I WILL have to use another USB slot for MK270 dongle.. No big deal... ;) Thanks. :)
I have a question. I want to buy this pack for my laptop. But when I go outside will just mouse will be working? As outside I can use my laptop built in keyboard. Just I need mouse for outside. Can someone tells me? Please
the mouse has a switch on the bottom to turn it off it you don't want it working, but still want the keyboard or vice versa, they both work with the dongle independently if required
I' ve got the MK295 Silent off White colour, they are similar but the MK295 is silent... Even though, the MK295 requieres Windows 7, but I think it will work with XP, it works with my Mac too, I remapped the CMD and OPT keys...
Logitech makes quality stuff, I was using the original logitech elite keyboard from 2002 till 2015 and it was still in perfect working condition! Then I decided to try out these new gaming mechanical keyboards, I spent 180 euros on a corsair k70 lux keyboard. Talk about poor quality, in just two years of use, 4 keycaps disintegrated and the volume knob stopped working. Well that is the last time I'm buying anything 'gaming' branded. I actually got the old logitech keyboard used in 2009 for free from a friend. Damn I wish I still had it around, but sadly I threw it away once I got my mechanical keyboard. Such a shame. Funnily enough, at the moment I'm using an old asus keyboard that came with an pre-built pc from like 2012 and it works really well, easy and comfortable to type on. Although the prints on the keycaps are pretty faded out. Office-use keyboards and mice are made for use, these 'gaming' branded mechanical keyboards are not. Anyhow, I think this kb+m set could be good for my console, it's quite a drag having to constantly plug and unplug my keyboard from my pc to the console.
Hi. I don't know how to speak English and that's why I write here with a translator. Is it worth paying more for the MK 345 over the MK 270? In my country the price difference is 15 dollars. I really appreciate your answer.
Bought this set a while ago, didn't do any reviews just needed something quickly, it didn't seem to work well so I binned it, the signal kept dropping and the keyboard couldn't be more than a foot or two away from the dongle for it to work, lots of lag too, after watching this, it seems I may have just had a faulty one... I am currently still in need of a fresh wireless keyboard and mouse, so I might try another one of these from a different seller.
Awesome review as always. Please tell me if you have to turn off keyboard & mouse via dedicated switches or does it automatically goes to power saving mode🤔
Hi dear Mike, thanks for a very well made review. BTW, You did mention that the caps-lock has a light when it's turned on. I was wondering if that is the case in num-lock as well? Thank you.
Hi ! Just a brief update if somebody is interested regarding the topic of the light. I Bought the keyboard (It's great BTW!!!) and the caps lock does have a light when it's turned on BUT the num lock doesn't have a light while turned on.
I had one for a day, but returned as the mouse was just soo small. The keyboard did feel nice though, taut, and familiar. I'm typing this on my decade-old £5 mechanical pcline pcl-sk1 btw, so my standards are not ... high :)
@@mikesunboxing I just tested it at the store and it is working with Samsung dex. Problem is they're out of the MK270, I tested the smaler MK220. At least it's working. I don't know the differences besides the size but I'll order an MK270.
Great review. I was searching for other info on the keyboard, specifically the PC Power Off button on the top. I despise that button because I literally use the keyboard on my lap. When I want to get up or I'm done with the keyboard, I usually pick it up w/ my left had to place it on the floor. And that blasted key is in the dead centre . Which means I power down accidentally at least twice a day. I guess I'll need to dismantle the gadget and physically remove the button! But, again, great review. This is my 2nd Logitech keyboard/mouse combo. I spilled my coffee onto my K360 & had to retire it. Once I disable that Power button, Id give this a 5 star rating! Right now, I'm wavering between 2 and 3 stars.
I forgot about Key Tweak! I uased that simple piece of software on a Vista installed Dell computer back in '07. I was doing phone support for that OS (oh-so glad it is gone!!), but didn't like a couple of keys on the keyboard. Key Tweak solved it pronto. But, and this may be because I have a Win 10 machine, Key Tweak did not satisfy this time around. It showed options for a Sleep key and a Power key. I disabled one and then the other with negative results. I'll keep Key Tweak on an archive HDD, just in case. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!! Altho' I'd rather forget those dark Vista daze... ;-)
I don't remember the button powering off to shut down or hibernate, just going to sleep. You should be able to change that in the Windows Power Options of the Control Panel. Bingo. I can safely confirm that by setting the "Sleep" button to do "Nothing", this button does nothing.
@@BlindLibrary , yeah, I misspoke. When I see the I/O symbol , I always think On/Off, so... I disabled the "Sleep" button. I also disabled the Calculator button thru the registry. Now, I am training myself to not hit the F10 - F12 buttons. I still love the MK270, for its functionality, price and size!
Two quick questions about the mouse 1.) When you click the scroll wheel can it go from notched to smooth scrolling or is it only notches? 2.) Since both the mouse and keyboard are only $20, does the mouse feel cheap? What I mean by that is some older infrared mouses feel like the plastic is thin, hollow, and very lightweight. Does the Logitech one have some weight and feel decently made or does it feel cheap?
The calculator button worked fine in my previous Logitech MK combo 715 (I think that was the model). So there’s no way to “connect” the windows Pre installed calculator to the Logitech keyboard?
Hi hello, hope u can help me: Logitech K270 - Hello My backspace key does not work properly anymore, it is difficult to press down. I need to press it in the exact middle, other wise it does not press down. I have tried to clean it using alcohol although it is not 100 % alcohol, i then tried talcum baby powder, and i tried slicone spray (i used a little of all these things). I especially noticed it was difficult to press backspace when my typing was horrible and i kept on making mistakes - I dont understand it. I would like to confirm if there is a metal support bar underneath the backspace key?
@@mikesunboxing yeh, its funny, it appears to be the same here (Philippines), thing is, the key itself has 2 clips...and the base layer where the key sits has a groove where the balance bar would slide in to , its really bloody bizarre.
@@mikesunboxing yeh quick question, if u press the key down on the right hand edge or left hand edge how does it press? smoothly, or does it struggle to travel and / or lose balance ?
since we are still WFH and my neck hurt due to the fact my laptop screen is lower than my eyes, i would like to use wireless keyboard so i could raise the laptop with a bunch of books. does this type still recommended today? or is there a new model with the same price range?
In the United States, Walmart has the MK270, Logitech part number 920-004536, and another Logitech keyboard and mouse combo, Logitech part number 920-008971, that looks identical, and about which Walmart says "Compare with MK270." However they provide no way to compare them. The description and the specs they list seem identical, except for the keyboard dimensions, in inches, which they indicate are very slightly different, with the MK270 being 20.63 x 1.97 x 6.26 Inches and the "compare with the MK270" being 20.08 x 6.22 x 1.81 Inches. The images that they show for each are identical. That is, for each keyboard I opened an identical-appearing images in a new tab, and saw that they had an identical address. They used the same image file for each keyboard. I'm going to go down to a Walmart store tomorrow and see if they have any in stock, and if I can determine any difference.
@@mikesunboxing I had a look at the 920-004536 keyboard and mouse set, at an Office Depot store, and a 920-008971 keyboard and mouse set, at 2 different Walmart stores, and I'll let you know what I found,.soon, after I get some sleep.
@@mikesunboxing Alrighty. Typing on the Walmart keyboard now. Before I go into what I found, let me say what I found out about the dongles. Logitech has 2 types of nano dongles. One type works only with the particular keyboard or mouse that it comes with, and the other is a "uniftying" receiver that works with any logitech mouse or keyboard that will connect to a unifying receiver. The receiver, and the unifying devices that work with it, are identified by a little logo. If I get a chance I'll provide a link to an image of the unifying logo. With just one unifying receiver plugged into your computer, you can connect up to 6 logitech unifying devices. If you go to Logitech's support page for the MK270, item number 920-004536, they indicate that there are 2 different versions, each having these same numbers. What they say about the difference is that there is a version with a unifying receiver and a unifying mouse, and a version without the non-unifying receiver, and non-unifying mouse. They don't say anything about the keyboard being unifying. They imply there is only one keyboard. I went to one of the 4 Walmarts that is within 30 minutes by car of my home and saw that they had only their Walmart version of the keyboard. So I rolled down the road to a Office Depot store, and took a look at the MK270. They didn't have one on display. They had boxed items, in taped boxes. Nothing on the box about "unifying." No unifying logo. I got permission to open a box and take a look. The mouse did not have the unifying logo. The dongle did not have the unifying logo. I forgot to look at the back of the keyboard, or maybe I remembered, I don't remember. But perhaps it doesn't matter because it appears that according to logitech support page it is only the mouse and the dongle that are unifying. The keyboards in both versions appear to be the same non-unifying keyboard, even though evidently they must connect to the particular unifying dongle that comes with the the unifying MK270 combo. Anyway, I saw no reason to pay $7.00 US extra for the MK270 if I was getting the model without the unifying stuff and I rolled over to another Walmart where I picked up a 920-008971. I unboxed my new Logitech keyboard, got out my magnifying glass, and looked at the tiny text molded into the keyboard and the mouse. So tiny it was even hard to see with the magnifying glass. On the back of the keyboard was the text K270. At that point it dawned on me that MK270 must mean K270 keyboard plus Mouse. Then I took a look at the mouse. In tiny lettering was "model number M-R0061." This is precisely the part number that Logitech's support site claimed was the part number of the mouse that came with the non-unifying-mouse-and-dongle version of the MK270 combo. So there you have it. No reason to spend any extra money for an MK270 that was identical to the Walmarts logitech "compare with MK270" model. No I didn't feel like checking more retailers to see if any of them had unifying MK270s. I am a touch-typer and I like this keyboard better than any of the other membrane and inverted silicone cup keyboards I have used. I like it better than the logitech that I spilled coffee on, I seem to recall it was a k120. The mouse is pretty fair. It has a stick-on label that says M185. It works similarly to my M325 but the wheel is noiser and clickier, the sides are plastic rather than rubbery, and it is lighter. The wheel has an up-down click switch, but does not have side to side switching capability like the M325. Also, it does not work with the logitech "SetPoint" program. There is a Logitech Options program that I got an offer to download either after the mouse drivers were automatically installed, or I ran SetPoint, I forget when. But this program has nowhere near the same mouse customizing ability as SetPoint. The keyboard, however, was recognized by SetPoint! SetPoint allows you to assign lots and lots of tasks to the Home key, the Email and the Calculator key, including the ability to run any program on your computer. So in short the Walmart "compare with MK270" combo appears to be identical with the MK270 combo, but with the non-unifying version. And I didn't find any unifying versions in local stores. And looking on ebay and amazon, I didn't find any MK270s that said anything about being unifying. Could be some of them were and that the sellers weren't aware of it. Sellers frequently make errors in describing the product they are selling. Oh, by the way, Walmart's published dimensions for the 2 keyboards are both wrong. The keyboard is about 44 cm long, which is about 17.4 inches, and is not 20.xx inches long. The box is not 20.xx long either. It is less about 19.8 inches long.
