Why Is The Omega Canopus Gold Speedmaster Unique? (CK2915-1)

A Discussion around the Omega Speedmaster Canopus Gold Cal. 321. One of the most beautiful Speedmasters ever made (also one of the most expensive) but as far as representing the anniversary of the first model while pushing the design, manufacturing and movement technology further, this is a brilliant watch. It shows the care and attention that Omega puts into their designs and also represents a faithful reinterpretation of an icon.

Great video. I thought the 57 Speedmaster reissue was my favorite. This takes they design to the highest level. Love all the details. The 57 is already easy out of my range. This be one? Dreams were grounded before they even were launched once the price was made known. Will they ever make the broad arrow Speedmaster at a more approachable and obtainable option without the limited edition that seems to always go with them? Idk?.. or, do you think such designs should only be reserved for limited production with the ultra high price tags to preserve it's uniqueness and collectibiliy to keep it special?
@ID-Guy
@ID-Guy 2 года назад
@@khronokraze And they even improved the bracelets on this model... Taper AND a better milled out clasp (it makes me jealous in a way BUT there's something quite nice about the heftier bracelet on the 57's) - I really think that we'll be seeing these in steel soon. It's too good of an opportunity for them to pass on. Plus, a 3861 movement in here would be killer... It would be a pity if they keep these original designs solely as Limited Editions... but that could also be an option (as you say, keeping them special) Something tells me this year we'll see something else added to the lineup 😉

I've been buying Rolex, AP, and PP for the past 20 years... my last Omega was a Seamaster 25+ years ago... why? Because nothing they made was worth even it's MSRP price at 25% off... but this watch is a game changer... As a Porsche 911 guy, I can relate to your analogy... as such, I bought this watch our in the original Stainless Steel after a 2 year wait.. It's a work of horological art.

This is an absolutely stunning watch and dare I say my favorite Speedy of all time! The price is crazy and completely out of reach for me but this is one to add to the "holy grail" list but one that is realistic many years down the line so long as the watch doesn't skyrocket in value. If I am doing well in life, let's say in 10-20 years, then I think I'd be taking a very hard look at this watch.

The Crampus Speedy is $81,000. Sorry even with a 321 (covered with a logo ugh) there are so many better options out there for that money, high horology options. I just don't get it. PS loved the eye roll, IDGuy definitely gets it haha One other note, that broad hour I dont know it blocks the sub dials. I like the Ed White, he didn't even step foot on the moon and got the best Speedy out of it, cheers to that - calling it in.

First of all, great review. Secondly, I love the watch. @anthonystevens8683

I love this watch, the three layer dial from Onyx, the case made from a blend of expensive super shiny stuff housing that 321 movement, it's easily the best speedy release. There is a lot of work that has gone into this piece and hence the price. The number made I'm sure will be low that would also add to the price. The more you make the cheaper most items would become. For those fortunate enough to afford and procure this watch, enjoy a fantastic watch and wear it. As for the broad arrow hands? Omega are already inconsistent with the Aqua Terra models have the broad arrow on the minute hand, The Planet Ocean on both hands and the Seamaster 300 on the hour hand only. Other ranges without the broad arrow and oddly for me I'm OK with this. I have to agree with your other gripes though about the sapphire crystals.

Nicely said as always Anthony. These will be special models, no doubt. And over the last few months I've really been looking at the CK2915 differently (as a piece I'd happily add to the collection with my Seamaster) They're just too much fun... Who knows what they'll be up to this year? It's also the 65th Anni for the Seamaster and Railmaster (and Ranchero) 😉 We might be in for a few surprises!

A very thoughtful and interesting review, thanks, and I find myself in agreement with all your observations. The etched Hippocampus on the back crystal ruins the whole thing, and having to find a clever way to add a spurious sapphire to the watch is, frankly, something you would expect on an 80s R***x!!! Yes, it’s that bad, and I suspect that OMEGA will eventually offer a free plain crystal replacement as part of the first service and a delete option for the Hippo on ordering the watch new. Finally, I found that incessant and loud clicking noise really distracting. I know it’s your ID audio logo, but just a few seconds either end of the video would be more than sufficient, thanks.

A lovely thing, for sure. Does it indicate future expansion of the 321 range? A steel CK321? A cool prospect. That said, the 321 is a nice movement, but 'great'? Expensive to service and sits outside the brand's core anti-magnetic, co-axial strategy. Conflicted. Whatever, $80k is bizarre - Lange/Patek money. Love the broad arrow hands , so legible. And weirdly never seem to date. They also give the watches a strong masculine vibe, even in a dresser watch like the aqua terra. Personally I prefer the original design of the speedie, with the black.face / white hands combo. And a 42mm case size is a better fit, especially for a chrono, or any modern sports watch, on my 19cm wrist anyway. Just checking down the side of the sofa , but I'm a bit short of the 80k needed for this example anyway .

Will Omega ever mass-produce a version of these in steel with a different movement and a more reasonable price? Omega has definitely left the 38mm side of the speedy range hanging with some awful current models. It’s frustrating that when smaller heritage models do come out, they’re limited editions and/or between $14k and $80k. Omega is missing a 38-39mm speedy with the price of the Professional that isn’t some dumbed-down or ugly modern interpretation. As an aside: So far the Speedmaster ‘57 has come the closest, but it was a LE. The FOIS has the same bezel diameter as the Pro and a similar LTL, so it’s not exactly a downsized option. The Ed White is the right size, but too expensive. There is a so-called Speedmaster 38, and let’s just say it doesn’t look much like a heritage speedy. Your options are: fork out the big bucks, or buy a Reduced, which is what I did.

No. The watch is stunning and fantastic, but still no. For me, the Speedmaster is the one that went to the moon. 321, steel, professional, velcro strap. So this would be 105.012 or 145.012.

This model is obviously going for the whales of our world,Omega have nothing to prove having done that time and time again with other more practical models.....................................
