Why is the Suez Canal so important?

The Suez Canal is one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, so a traffic jam like the one caused by the 224,000-tonne Ever Given container ship is rather a big problem. str.sg/J92b

@@nonyabizness997 it was from the Egyptian ruler actually with French advice. And at the end the country ended in debt and he sold it to the British and French and it led to Egypt being colonized by Britain. The issue that some people complain about the prices or taxation of the Canal. As if it is a natural strait not something literally built by the Egyptian blood and costed us centuries of suffering.

Suez Canal was mentioned in Philippine History when it was part of Filipino Nationalism where the canal was fast route from Manila to Barcelona in just a month served for the so-called "Illustrados" such as Jose Rizal,etc.

Can man made forests over the two sides of the canal help reducing the sand storm and gusty wind effect on the ships passing through the canal? How much economical it could be! There could be better tourism on the both sides throughout the length of the canal. The Egypt side looks too much grey. Hopeful to see some natural solutions along with bypass options. Its not easy indeed, due to huge financial burden

As an Arab it's always interesting to hear western media talk about the Arab-Israeli conflict. 2:13 "In 1967 Egypt and some other Arab states fought Israel in what became known the six-day war." Wasn't Israel the perpetrator of this war who invaded Sinai and Golan heights, both parts of sovereign Egypt and sovereign Syria?
@nng2442
@nng2442 3 года назад
Firstly, the straits times is not western media, it is Singaporean. Israel was not the perpetrator as Egypt did not let Israeli vessels to use the straits of Tiran knowing that Israel had already said the unfairness would be a cause for war. Rightfully so, the Arab nations got their asses handed back to them... within a week.
@CliveReyes
@CliveReyes 3 года назад
@@nng2442 It's also interesting to hear brainwashed westerners repeat their alternative history narratives. First, I suggest you look up the word "perpetrator", second, Egypt had every right to block whatever it wanted from using the strait of Tiran, and third, are you not aware that the Israelis were forced to crawl back under the rocks they came from 6 years later?
@nng2442
@nng2442 3 года назад
@@CliveReyes Oh the irony when a Muslim claims someone else is brainwashed. It's interesting to hear you assume someone is a westerner the moment they have a differing opinion from yourself. Do not blame you, that's part and parcel of the Islamic brainwash. Firstly, I'm not a westerner and before you assume, neither am I a Jew. Secondly, no, Egypt does not have the right because the freedom for all countries to use any strait for trade is covered by UN conventions and especially, to prevent the Islamisation of Suez canal trade routes which eventually was the cause for conflict. Thirdly, perhaps you can show me your sources of your alternate history of Israel crawling back to under their rocks after the 1973 war. Let me give you an idea - After 50 years, Israel still has control of West Bank, a Jewish first world nation landlocked by third world Islamic countries that are still under economic and/or political crisis today despite the fact they belong in a polarisingly Islamic and Arabic region. Incompetence, ignorance or both?
@CliveReyes
@CliveReyes 3 года назад
@@nng2442 oh the sweet sweet irony when someone calls out someone for making assumptions while doing the exact same thing within the same paragraph no less. I am not a Muslim by any stretch of the imagination, you might not be a westerner but I did not mean that in a literal way, I meant everyone who blindly follows the western “Israel good, Arab bad” worldview.
@nng2442
@nng2442 3 года назад
@@CliveReyes Achmed, what I made was not an assumption, but a presumption. I hope you understand the difference and why one would make the presumption, Achmed. Regardless, that's not the worldview held just by westerners but the majority of the non-islamic world. It is not that difficult to understand why that might be case. Also, thanks for your non-response. I am glad I can shed some light on issues that are completely misrepresented in the middle East

@goldviationflights
@goldviationflights 3 года назад
The Suez canal was built in the 1800s. Back then ships were not even an eighth of the size they are today. At the time, the canal had plenty of space for even the biggest ships to pass without problems. Even Titanic itself could probably pass that canal easily if it were sailing today. Ships just grew in size so quickly that there was not enough time to plan out an expansion of the waterway. I think they might widen it soon.
