Never feel bad about your unpainted collection. Bad feelings leads to lack of motivation which leads to sadness which leads to more minis. Skip everything in between and just enjoy the minis you buy
I have 60 rising sun minis unpainted... I finally buyed what i need to Paint them, and this evening i will start thanks to Emil vids that motivetes me so much and made me so happy
I have my about 700 modele of nearly complete Woody Elves collection of all times by GW to Converse and paint. I would live to have the quadrig charriot and a beastmaster to have totally complete
I’ve played 40k since the early 90’s and over the years have literally bought thousands of miniatures. About a year ago I made a conscious decision to sell off everything except my main army of interest (World Eaters). I then spent the last year painting the backlog of my main army and now have over 5k points of painted models: far more than I’ll ever need for a typical game. This has completely liberated me as a Hobbiest: i only paint when I want to now with zero pressure to have to do so. I can paint five minutes a day simply for the fun of it or not pick up a brush for a week if I choose with no feelings of not making progress, etc. I also find I now spend a lot more time on models I choose to paint because there is no pressure to have to finish so I can chip away at some overwhelming backlog and my individual models look better than ever as a result. I’ve never been more relaxed nor enjoyed myself more as a 40k Hobbiest and gamer and I’m never going back to having a huge backlog hanging over my head.
Learning to buy only what you can realistically paint is the way. I have maybe like 2-3 boxes on rotation at once, seems to work well. I think I'd get anxiety and not get much enjoyment if I had that many to do. Just looks like a job when you're like...yeah if I paint everyday this will take 2+ years to paint.
You have made a very valid point. I've been playing 40K since the early 90's, as well. I have four armies. Each one is approximately 3,500 points or more. I live overseas in a remote area. I have only one opponent. Therefore, I prefer to bring a different army for each session, so that my opponent doesn't feel bored fighting against the same army, every time. However, I envy the fact that you have consolidated your army. In my case, using an airbrush has reduced painting times. Now, I am re-evaluating my need for this many models....
RU-vid is maybe a common answer to the question 'how do I leverage my massive collection of miniatures.' This kind of video is also awesome just because you see so many random things
4 hours a model? That's way too high. Lots of stuff in there that he can easily batch paint. Not to mention he has access to Guy, an experienced speedpainter.
And add in time for removing moldlines, cleaning the painting area, conversions, repairing broken minis, interrupting kids, interrupting adults, ordwring spare parts for the airbrush, cleaning the airbrush, scanning e-bay for complimentary models... 4 hours per model is not a bad estimate even if you only spend 2 hours painting.
Thanks Emil! This last video helped a lot! I too have far too many minis collected and to paint. Again, you have no idea how much your reveal has helped me. Ok maybe not so much help, but given me some understanding I am not alone. Thank you.
VLOG videos of you choosing one particular army/project and taking them to completion would be immense and a great motivation to keep other people painting
all those sculpts from the late 80's and early 90's are the best. I loved the one metals. I d like the new detailed plastics, but I still love the stuff from when was a kid, the best.
The lighting and editing are A++, great work team! Not sure if you actually want to paint your pile, but if so I'd suggest getting everything to the stripped and primed stage, then you have a nice common 'blank slate' to start with and can immediately start painting anything you fancy on a certain day without having to go through the prep.
What a collection! Makes me feel a bit better about the amount of unpainted minis I own. Love the video and especially the editing. Last couple of videos are just top-notch!
I'm surprised by the amount of Malifaux you have. I love the game but it rarely gets coverage and you don't often mention it any more than just in passing. I would enjoy seeing some work on that stuff some time (even if it would be a smaller vid on your other channel).
My miniature hobby as a kid ended when someone stole my miniatures from the middle-school's paint-class while I was on a break. Haven't gone back to it yet and I am 26, and I was about 13 when it happened. Just found about you and like your videos still, because Warhammer is so close to my heart since childhood, the games and even learning the boardgame rules eventhough I never ever have got to play it myself.
My back log was getting bigger and bigger as i was not enjoying batch painting models. But i have now changed my tactic and paint only one model at a time and paint want a want out of my back log. Since i started painting this way the quality of my paint has massively improved and i really enjoy painting again. Yes its not fast as i now only paint 1-2 models a week, but i love the pace and im much happier paint models.
Very nice to see your tons of fun. I have counted my Warhammer Minis and some others but missed also the whole Warmachine and Hordes stuff. But I'm at 6600 Minis and the most of them unpainted. Oh my god so much to do, booya
Funny video. I really like the new studio. I'm looking forward to see some new videos from the new studio :) Also, the music for the space orks is super awesome !!!
I feel him haha I try to paint but I not only lock patience but I’m not good at it all that much lol. I do it to try and give some colour to them but my real joy is making the models and playing them. Painting is just the chore that comes with it
This video makes me feel better about my unpainted Blackstone Fortress minis that I put together and immediately started playing with (With the exception of the ones from "No Respite" since those are simply ETB DG and had to join my DG army)...
I think it's safe to assume that anyone that's dabbled in minis has their pile of unpainted models. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if there's someone out there saying "Rookie numbers!"
Oh boy :D your videos have always been awesome, but they have become so friggin‘ funny!! Not in a bad way, just so clowny in a good way :D love it! More please!
This made me feel so much better about my pile of shame. I just kept showing my wife this video saying “see I’m not THAT bad” I think you saved my life man 🙏
I was starting to worry that you weren't going to surpass my model count of 2000. I managed to accumulate my high numbers from a buncha board games that I planned on painting. Zombicide is especially great at accruing 100+ zombie models per game. Just gotta sit down and paint them all once I've finished moving into an apartment! I wish you the best of luck with painting all those minis Squidmar!
I can honestly say I own 2000 minis and my pile of shame is currently one single mini - Lion el'jonson - who will be painted up next week. I challenge you Squidmar to complete one army of your pile of shame, once your studio is up and running of course 😁😁
That's not too bad, I've got nearly 200 minis boxed up and ready to go... what's that? 10 mins left in the video? More minis by an order of magnitude? Beats out your entire pile with just the minis for Heroquest? Good Lord, Mr Squidmar...
Thankyou for this video, I feel much better about my pile of shame now. I thought 5 raptors, 2 havocs, a drop-pod, a warpsmith, Cypher, demon prince and a bloodthirster was bad..... how wrong I was! Gonna celebrate by buying more minis I think.
Thats awesome you dont have to buy another miniature the rest of your life so many models and games that can be played. I def got alot of collecting to do!
