Matt, I live in Texas where pickup trucks are one of every 4 vehicles on the road. This trail boss is EVERYWHERE! Mostly with a massive lift, bigger wheels, and tires.
Call me a crank, but I can't stand those two. They're so damn annoying half the time. If we're comparing reviewers in the same 'market' as Straight Pipes Thomas and James on Throttle House are more professional and make far superior content in my opinion.
Tailgate: Drops... Mat: Ooh, you've caught me in bed!" Years... literally years, of consuming automotive journalism in some form or another, and leave it to Mat Watson to invent the greatest pickup truck dad joke in existence.
Bought a Silverado when I moved from the UK to the US last year, fallen in love with the thing mayn 👌 you get used to the size pretty quickly and it’s got a heap of power behind it. Super comfortable for long drives
@@karimtemri1664 newer ones are for sure but pre 2015 aren’t that bad in the slightest. My 2012 got 230,000 on its original gearbox and 200,000 the engine and that’s towing heavy loads up and down the country
@@karimtemri1664 I was in the same situation when I lived in Europe. America is expensive and you have to pay for healthcare but the wages and opportunities are everywhere
@@karimtemri1664 older chevys the 2008 and back are frankly wonderful. I'm in the US where they are really common. I have a 05 avalanche, 250k miles just the major maintenance rear and front differential are original need to be rebuilt soon. Family has a 02 that 240k miles still perfect, any pre 2008 ish Ford chevy dodge truck is pretty sound mechanical. But I'll hand the badge to chevy engine wise with the 5.7 5.3 4.8 v8's and the 4.3 v6. Fords 5.0 v8 and 4.0 and 3.0 v6 the most reliable Ford is the 300 inline 6 though and the 7.3 v8 powerstroke. Dodge the 318 v8 and 360 magnum before the second gen hemi are also solid.
When I lived in the US in the mid-90's, I drove a Dodge V10 as a works vehicle, and FU€&1NG LOVED IT! These trucks may well be absolutely useless over here - while also looking utterly ridiculous: but in their natural environment in the good aul US of A, they make perfect sense, and I think this thing looks absolutely fantastic!! A 460bhp pickup truck? If I was back living in the US again - Hell Yeah!! 😜
Today's pickups, still running on the same 20 year old platform are literally over the top, loaded with techs, powerful engines and comforts.....and yes the practicality is still there. I just bought a GMC Canyon, more midsize, and just recently has some Europeans visiting - talk about culture shock!! They thought I was heading to Ukraine to fight Putin...it's an utter beast to Europeans.
@@jaunt3603 What part of that wikipedia article proves what you said was true? Interestingly if you follow the page to the end where there's a link to an article titled "list of countries by body mass index", the USA ranks 17th, Mexico 24th and the UK 40th. So what the figures actually say is on average Americans are fatter than Mexicans and Brits. The rate of morbid obesity (ie not just "fat", but "American fat") is also twice as high in the US than Mexico or the UK for women, and three times as high for men: ncdrisc.org/morbid-obesity-population-bubble.html So yeah you're full of shit.
Silverado has always been the well rounded truck. The reliability is not yet as good as Tundra but better than Ford and Ram. The tow load is in the top tier but not as good as the Ford. They are not tuned for rough environment like the F150 and manual rear locker but is more tuned for everyday driving, casual towing, and casual off road.
Cross 111 are all you Europeans really child sized? My knees touch the front seat when I sit in the back. Dude looked tiny in there. I’m 6’5 250 though, typical cornbread Texan. We literally cannot fit in your euroshit cars.
Nariman Etemadi I’m still slim though. I work out a lot. If you saw me not standing next to anyone you’d think I’m a fit but still average person. At 220lbs I look unhealthy skinny.
The bemused British reaction to the most common and mundane vehicles on USA roads, "it's massive!" "V8 power!", and secretly whispered in their head "I. WANT. ONE."
As a European I love all these huge American pickups. I think if I had the money to import myself one in Europe I would go with the Ram Laramie Longhorn for the cowboy experience or even better the F150 Raptor to feel totally badass lol.
Goddamit boy!!! The cut out on the roof is for your damn cowboy hat!!! And when youre in college and dad loans you the pick up to go out on a date... the front bench seat is the best option ever offered on any automobile, ill leave at that.
I own a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado, standard cab, 5.7 V8, and 4 speed automatic with around 235k miles on it. It looks like a toy truck when parked alongside a Silverado like the one being reviewed, but it runs like a top, is easy to park, hauls and pulls everything I need to haul and pull, is easy to work on, and easily fits in one bay of my two car garage. Oh, and I paid $2500 cash for it in 2008 and haven't spent any money on it since then except for routine replacement items, like tires, battery, wipers, fuel filter, etc, all of which I changed out myself. I think I'll keep it.
A small thing I love about the new Chevy (and Chevy trucks in general) is that they've kept the column shifter 4:38 . I can't stand Ram's circle shifter, and I don't like a center shifter in a pickup. Just a small thing I appreciate.
That front is really super frightening. I’ve had Chevrolet all my life very durable pickup trucks... By the way as usual Matt doing really good reviews..
I love my grandfather’s ‘14 Silverado LTZ. It’s a huge truck, you’re in a huge cabin and using an immense amount of fuel but you just feel like, “THE WORLD IS ALL YOURS!” because you’re so big.
2 small Apputure lights mounted in the interior would do wonders for the picture quality during sunset. Lots of your interior shots in this, but also in other videos are pretty grainy...
The reason for the ladder frame and leaf springs is for towing, which is the number one purpose for a full size truck. There is a reason why even Mercedes still uses leaf springs on their Sprinter Vans and VW/Toyota/Nissan/Etc. for their mid-size trucks, it's the best suspension for the job.
One of the many reasons that I see your channel is because you not only tell us the good things but also the bad things about the car. Very few RU-vidrs do that
C'mon surprised for the size of a normal truck? I live in UK and British just discovered pickup trucks are for sale in 2018-2019, thank god I lived in America before and that gives you a broader vision about almost everything !
The silverado has the best driving position and the smoothest ride. You failed to mention that the silverado has a brother called the gmc sierra Denali that is pretty luxurious.
@7:14 the cutouts in between all the cupholders are to accommodate the handles of coffee mugs. We Americans are particularly addicted to the stuff so it comes with us everywhere.
I was waiting for the day that Matt would review our classic American vehicle of choice! 😂😂😂 Absolutely hysterical! 😂😂😂😂 Literally everything you said that was “odd” is 100% standard in American pickups of all auto makers. 😂😂😂
Lavonte A I totally agree. GM’s interiors across the board are 3-5 years behind their competition right now. The full sized GM truck interiors are laughable compared to RAM’s interiors and even the Ford F-150’s interior which is 5 years old at this point still looks better and has aged more gracefully than the new GM full size truck interiors.
@@enigmaPL um okay that's your opinion I honestly didn't ask for your comment I love the looks and pretty cool heritage you can laugh all you want but us humans can choose whatever we want
@@La-yt1wr You're using a site, that is essentially a public forum, you don't have to ask for comments, you will get them. Feel free to 'choose whatever you want', but that doesn't make complaining about interior 'design' any less pretentious. That's all.
When it comes to trucks, HP means a whole lot less than Torque. The 3.0 inline 6 turbo diesel is actually a top engine choice for the silverado (the same way it is in the ram and f150) as it delivers massive torque (460ft-lbs, same as the 6.2 V8) with great fuel economy. Also the reason why the 5.3 V8 is the volume engine is that sweet naturally aspirated 383ft-lbs of torque. Also the 6.2 makes 420hp, not 460. Also for the Europeans who don't know much about trucks (understandably since you don't really have them there), the leafsprings are a good thing since it enables you to carry more weight, safer. The ram 1500 (and 2500 for that matter) don't do as well with a heavy payload since the coils don't hold up as well. Other important truck things are solid rear axles for the same reason as leafs, tires and wheels are heavier duty since they are also built to handle more weight, the interior plastics in most trucks (excluding the highest end luxury trucks) are to help with durability over the working life of the vehicle, and large naturally aspirated gas/petrol engines are very popular over small turbos due to the reliability. Ford's ecoboost f150's are proof turbo gas engines and towing don't mix. (diesels are fine though because of how overbuilt they are obviously). One last note is as you move into HD trucks, you will find trucks with curb weights in excess of 4 tons, so they get very large very quickly. But then again those trucks can tow upwards of 17 tons so teaches own
my grandpa had a Silverado go over 500,000 miles with limited issues and mine has 280,000 on all factory Thats why the Silverado is so popular in the states.
