Guys... this is a long one, and all on the bench. Got a few issues with an old back Injury at the moment, so trying not to do to much to aggravate it. Fresh look garage and some more usual content coming in the next few weeks 😎👌
I have 2 forms of arthritis in my spine and hips so I feel for you buddy with back pain. Add to that your house move as well !. Take it easy, don't think anyone would begrudge you a bit of R and R.
I own a 80 series so my wife bought me the Patriot. For not being an RC guy, I really like it and finding myself learning more about RC's and purchasing more. Thanks for the videos.
Get the Hobbyplus Toyota copy too. it performs better offroad, ofc because the chassi is 220grams lighter. The frames are almost exactly same weight. So this Patriot model is very topheavy. Both are top stuff, just another performs better visually and the other on track.
To all here: those are actually plain bearings in the axles and not bushings. They're not plain brass bearings either, they are Oilite bearings and fairly high tech {at least for 1930's tech}. They're made of cast porous bronze and other alloys that are impregnated with oil {self lubricating} so they are ideal for low speed crawlers and fabulous for water resistance, much more so than ball bearings. I noticed the base model MN86 comes with these Oilite bearings too, so I wouldn't object to them out of hand.
Now that is a tricky one Phil, personally I'd go for the Patriot, because even adding upgrades like wheel weights or better electronics, you'll still end up cheaper than the Katana.
"I'm gonna put the prices above them... The price of that... and the price of that..." I'm not gonna lie, I stared at the screen waiting for them to pop-up.
Awesome comparison bro, lots of little differences. I'd much prefer going for a panda, they are so underrated! Love my K1 and X2T. Both waterproof with oil shocks and weighted wheels from the box. For me Panda have the best rigs in this category. Your grass needs cutting 😂
The Panda is ok on the trails, but the HobbyPlus CR-18 and the Katana it's based on have much nicer looking bodies, and parts that are MUCH easier to find replacements for, as well as Panda Hobby having, let's just say not great customer service. Then there's the fact the skid plate and axles get hung up on nearly every rock and obstacle compared to any of my other crawlers including the CR-18/Katana. Then there's the odd motor and transmission combination. A 180 motor is great! Most have 030 or 050, but then they ruined it with that afterthought of a transmission that's under geared and clearly designed for a 030 or 050 motor (that's why it has an adapter) The Panda does have the best performing oil shocks, however If you care about scale looks they are huge and not scale.
the key to better tire grip and better climbing abilities on micro crawlers is to get the center of gravity as low as possible. The easiest and most effective way is to install lead washers on the rims. I glue them with a two-component liquid polymer weld
My Katana sounds the same, i.e. sounds broken 😂 A good point is you can turn the headlights on on the Katana and leave them on throughout, (rather than the Patriot’s lights only coming on when you press the throttle).
I'm always a fanboy of cheaper rc cars like the eazy rc but my biggest concern when buying one like this is being able to find parts and upgrade parts,if I can find parts for it I'm always gonna buy the cheaper one, eather way it's gonna break wether it's cheap rc or expensive and I don't pay for sticker brands, I can always buy stickers
Bro I enjoyed every second of this video!! Very complete comparisson!! They are very interesting rcs, and both of them could be upgraded with the scale, just choice brands to fits them better parts !(axles, shcks,,,). I just have 1 easyrc!! Plastic gears mmm (overall katana)!! Have a great day Bro!
Bought the Patriot on Amazon. Stopped working and on/off switch was broken. Sent back for replacement. After a few runs on new one, remote won’t. communicate with the car. Remote red light comes on, car headlights flash, but they don’t seem to sync up. Is there a way to redo the pairing?
Hi all does anyone know how to rebind the tx and rx?. My patriot light turn on off ecerysecond. And the car is not responding to the transmitter. I put fresh battery in both car and remote. Is there any help please or it is turned into shelf queen status?
They are very similar but the only difference I’m not so sure I heard is the katana is waterproof while the patriot isn’t at all. Something to keep in mind when trailing these bad boys
Don't waste your money on the patriot,I thought I made a good choice by saving money and buying the patriot and the diff gears stripped in the first 5 mins of play,so now I'm having to buy better axles for $40 and by this point if would been the same price as the other one and I wouldn't have a broke rib for 3 weeks waiting on parts
The Katana definitely has a 050 motor not a 180. 180's are noticably bigger. As far as which is better, that's subjective but if you're planning to get better electronics and don't mind not being able to get spare Axle or transmission parts get the patriot. If you want the ability to easily and cheaply find axle and transmission parts all over the world get the Katana. It's basically a hard body HobbyPlus CR-18, which has also been branded as the FTX 1/18, and uses the same transmission and axle gears as the HobbyPlus CR-24, and ATLAS 6x6 and the same axle gears as all the 1/24 RGT Adventurer/1/24 FTX Outbacks/ECX Barrage, and the Element Enduro24. IMO it's not true or accurate to say they are similar other than cost.. If anything the only thing similar is the body everything else is clearly different and those are the things that matter the most. Even if they perform the same the stock parts support available for the Katana is far far better
Can you compare the katana axels to the cr24 sold on banggood made by hobbyplus, im interested in what parts will go together, also the transmission and chassis mounts, frame widths.
The katana is basically a hard body HobbyPlus CR-18. Same axles, transmission, shocks, links, ect ect. The transmission is also the same as the CR-24. The axle centers, meaning the center housing and the gears are the same, but the knuckles/ rear lock outs, and of course axle shafts are longer on CR-18/katana/ and ATLAS 6x6 which is basically a CR-18 with a 3rd axle housings. The chasis is very similar to the HobbyPlus CR-18 but has a few different mounting holes for the body.
@@Spoo76 thank you for the details! I made a 6x6 cr24 out of 2 cr24's, by taking the input halfs of the front and rear axels together. All these mini crawlers with housings similar can do this too, or even be 8x8 or more.
I just bought the white one. As a beginner what i feel is important, what reviewers forgets, is that these cars actually aren't a good choice for starting an offroading hobby. The sole reason to this is that they are so topheavy. I'd recommend a lexan chassi like the Hobbyplus if you really want to drive offroad. These scale models are... More like greatest scale toys ever :) Patriot was last week at Bangood for -50%. Great purchase.
✌🏻😎🏴can you line those with scale egg boxes to make them quiet? Some off these small scale rc’s sound louder than 10 scale. Outrunner motors are the worse out of them all 😂. Those motor hurt my ears 😂
This is the only crawler that I have and it has broken. I can hear the motor running but the driveshafts are not moving at all. I assume the gears inside the transmission have been chewed up or some gears have come out of place. I haven't taken it apart yet but just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem before I do. Is it worth trying to fix it or should I just save my money for my bigger 10 scale purchase next year? Also, if it is worth fixing, where do I find parts for this little thing? Any help would be much appreciated, if you have time. Thanks
I have the HPI Racing FJ and it's great. I'm thinking about selling it and getting the TRX Sport, not that it's bad, but I would like better clearance and performance with rock crawling. My roommate has the Defender and the classic Bronco, another friend has the Mercedes TRX6. They're impressed for it being so small, and the controls are lighter, but I would like to be able to go places they can. The Sport is cheaper when new, and the FJ needs the steering servo upgraded. I bought mine new with extras and things done to it. Tires were a necessity.
You did another me video.... Lol Whats the difference in the bodies between these 2vand the wpl c54 ?? Looking forward to the trail video. Still want that texan mini !!!!
The easiest way to remember about your angles is think about an airplane coming in for landing he's approaching the airport and he's descending he's leaving
IMO, The only diff for me was the chassis, waterproofing, and licensing. If someone can upgrade the patriot to metal chassis and waterproof it. The fms lc80 will be damn.
Katana/cr18 axles are outdated. Patriot use the same axles as the newer fms/roc hobby lc80. Better drive shafts/axles. You can buy lc80 metal pinion/bevel gear upgrade for eazyrc patriot/Arizona axles. And it doesn't use the horrible dogbones driveshafts like cr18 axles. Cva front drive shafts are much better. Patriot pinion is also supported by 2 bushings. Cr18 axles has the toy grade 1 bushing support for the pinion. Katana axles may look more scale but the build quality is still more toy grade.
Pretty interesting trucks, dude! 😃 Maybe it's a different company who builds it and decided to sell with their own name as well... Who knows. Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
FMS (ATLAS) owns the brand RocHobby (Katana) but both are based on the HobbyPlus CR-18 ,which is based on the smaller CR-24 (same shocks, transmission, and axle centers. The HobbyPlus rigs are also sold under the FTX brand and "d1RC" and some other brand in germany I forget
Look after yourself dude. Once your back begins to feel a little more comfortable, do some mild yoga stuff and then progress to strengthening. I'm sure you're following Doc's advice.
Hi, nice tests! I've recently bought the EazyRc 1/18 Patriot, i've made a cinematic video of a snow/ice crawling course if you wanna check it out on my channel, really appreciate! This little RC car is great, but it really needs to lower the center of gravity because it tumbles really easily.
