Exactly. The best way to stop piracy is to make the legal way more convenient - that’s why piracy was at record lows when Netflix had everything but jumped back up when the whole 10,000,000 different streaming services thing started.
But it’s NOT piracy... EA gave away the rights to Sims 2. So it’s no longer a creative property of Maxis. There’s a whole SUBREDDIT dedicated to this.....

@@deemah3602 I feel like build mode is the only real asset that TS4 has. When people say that 4 has the best looking graphics they forget to add the caveat “with CC”. I remember when sims 4 CAS demo came out, the sims 3 forums were on fire talking about how bad the graphics are and how the sims look like clay. In terms of worlds, sims 4 closed worlds could never hold a candle to Sims 3 open worlds.
I've got to tell you, I was one of those that called EA games AFTER they had stopped giving it away free, to see if I could get the Ultimate collection, I had a great conversation with a guy in the USA to see if there was any way of me getting it free, Bottom line, he said "I'm not supposed to do this, but I'm going to give you the UC, we then spoke about why they had stopped giving it away or even selling it, and I've got to tell you, YOU ARE CORRECT in your assumption, they've stopped people getting it as they are afraid that if it were still available, even to buy, it would kill the sales of the Sims 4. We must have talked for an hour or more, and there was mention of The Sims 3, I ended up being given that too. Lol, but yes you are spot on in your reasoning as to why the Sims 2 is no longer available
I had a kinda similar experience around 2015/16 or so. I missed out the promotion and wanted to see what I could do, I told a helper that I had the base game and pets from 2005/6 but lost the discs and codes (true statement) and they said since I already owned the games I could have UC
That is super interesting. I called one to try to get TS2UC about a year ago and I openly spoke about my speculations, which were the same as mentioned in the video. The guy hesitated then told me that the real reason was they ran out of codes. My thoughts are... how do you run out of codes for a digital product? It costs nothing to create new ones. I even told him how people on Ebay are making thousands off of selling pirated copies. He said he would send in a report but we both know he isn't going to. So I'm just playing the pirated Sims 2 and boycotting the Sims 4... as if I'm helping!🤣
The fact that Sims 2 isn’t on Origin is honestly so upsetting to me! At one point, they were giving out the Sims 2 for free, and now they don’t even give people the chance to buy it!

I would say don’t forget Bethesda (because subscription and over prized expansion packs of eso) but at least their game is solid. People who are playing the game are incredibly fond of it. So EA wins being an ass
If only The Sims 2 lasted as long as The Sims 4 ... I don't want to imagine the wonderful expansions they would have given us. People do not understand that The Sims 2 has errors because they are very deep and each sim has a lot of information that sometimes gets corrupted without the right mods (memories, tastes, personality ...), instead the Sims 4 have errors because they were programmed lazily, that's why they are so easy to erase, they are all different looking clones, they are empty and no matter what you do as there is nothing encoded in them, there are no consequences, just objects with animations. They do not feel "alive". You can tell that the people of the current team are much less intelligent than when Will Wright was, they are mediocre people without imagination or sight for small details, basically they are low-ci psycho-zombies like the players who spend money on this scam.
To be honest, I think that EA is aware people are dissappointed with sims 4 and will lose sales on the sims 4 expansions if they start selling sims 2. With people making CC for sims 2 all these years later, it certainly says a lot about Sims 2. I would buy Sims 2 IF they had it but since they don't want my money I still got all my disks.
maybe they should do a sims 2 remaster for the 21st birthday instead so it continues to work on new/newer computers for years :/ sims 2 was my favorite and after my computer updated awhile back i couldn’t even download it to the computer
I remember when The Sims 2 originally got taken off of Origin during Sims 3's hayday, and a lot of people attributed it to the fact EA wanted people to focus on Sims 3 and buy stuff in the ridiculously priced Sims 3 store for sims 2 gameplay stuff. It just feels like they're doing the same for the sims 4.
Well then they should take a hint😂 do something about ts4 like yeah graphic is okay buut the gameplay... daaamn it’s boring ts2 was one of the most sucsessful game for EA and the stories and gameplay all in all i think they could make some great money on selling ts2 again😂

I do support the theory that EA doesn't want to put Sims 2 up again cause it would take away from Sims 4's sales. It's a very EA way of thinking, which they'd never admit to.
I remember in 2017 going on a live chat to ea customer service with no copy of sims 2 or a code or anything and just asking them if I could have the ultimate collection, saying that I knew they did a promo in the past where they gave it away for free but I only found out about it then and missed out. I didn’t think they’d give me it but I’d heard of other people getting it like this and I was desperate to try the game so I just thought I’d chance it. To my surprise they were completely fine with giving me a code for the game and were really nice to me in chat even though I was clearly pushing my luck 💀 so glad I got the game though and I prefer it to sims 4!

I think it depends on the processor and the graphics card, I had to install a program that prevented Windows 10 from stealing almost 8gb of ram (or more!) :S After fixing that and adding the 4gb patch plus change some lines of the graphic rules thanks to an elaborate tutorial, my game looks better and more realistic than Sims 4, and with the sliders and other mods it looks like a very modern game and the sims look gorgeous with almost no cc, I love my current sims 2 * _ *

cindy, to make you feel better: a report by the European Commission has found that illegal downloads of video games do not affect sales. so if you ever push pirating again, just keep this in mind : )
Cindy was actually against encouraging illegal downloading of TS2 until a couple of months ago when it was confirmed that EA actually has completely untangled itself from everything TS2 related (which is probably the reason why they can't put it back in Origin). I said it before and ill say it again: ts2 is such a funny and well thought out game, even after all these years it still holds up. With a little remastering itd be good to go. Ts4 in comparison is bland, lackluster and basically unplayable without extra packs. And that alone proofes the superiority of ts2. EA probably really is scared of more people finding out how much of a cash grab ts4 is.
I downloaded the Sims 2 this past summer through the app store onto my mac. It's called "sims 2 super collection." It doesn't have *every* expansion but it has a fair number and runs really smoothly. I'm not sure if it's been discontinued but thought I'd share for fellow mac users! I also haven't had to do any of the fixes you mentioned - in fact it runs better than sims 3 and 4, both of which I have also played on my mac.
My speculation is the same as yours. TS4 is new money. TS2 is free. People wouldn't buy TS4 anymore and I am sure of it, especially after that much backlash. You're not alone in this... it's pure marketing strategy.
they will never bring back, because it Sims 4 is in bad place and they think that it people will go to Sims 2. but they just can get money with it and maybe pay other people to fix Sims 4. I would love to see Sims 3 64bit for Windows then maybe it will work better..
Just signed the petition. I'm lucky I still have my discs, but I still don't have all the expansions and it would be cheaper to buy the collection than to try and find all the expansions on ebay and whatnot. It's a great game, people deserve the chance to play it.
I wish Origin would suck it up and give TS2 rights to GOG... it's not like it's *their* game anyway... they didn't create it, they just destroyed the franchise. *cries in Maxis*
I'd love it if TS2 were on GOG. It has so many games, both old and new that it would be the perfect fit for it. They even used to ensure that the games worked on new systems too, not sure if they still do but at least for those who it matters to it can be legaly bought online again.
FYI, the Sims 2 is available legally for Mac users, and it's even updated to be 64-bit. The collection is called "The Sims 2 Super Collection" and it's available on the Mac App store for $30. Obviously this still leaves Windows users hanging, but it is a legal way to acquire a download of TS2. Sadly it's missing the expansions that were never released for Mac, but that's understandable.
It's also sad the only legal version is missing apartment life and freetime. It really does play like butter (I have the Mac super collection on my Mac mini and a high seas version of the Ultimate Collection on my Windows 11 PC). Both play super smooth on modern Mac and Windows without issues. Sims 3 has ISSUES. Sims 3 is treated like a golden child these days and really mods and fans have optimized it for better gameplay. EA is really good at producing messed up games that the fans fixed. The Origin version of Sims 2 worked fine before they pulled it off Origin. Any excuse about it being too hard to fix is full of it. I have Sims 1 running on Windows 11....a much older game. And it took about 15 minutes and a little help from a videogame archive site to get it running. I am sure all of Maxis/EA could get Sims 2 running just fine if they wanted.
As someone who is in a large sims 2 group/community, I can attest to how incredibly exhausting it can be to support help/fix/solutions for people who are not tech savvy and especially with all the different combinations of mods that can break the game it would just be an absolute headache for EA support to try to do this for tens of thousands of people who would download and look for support for sims 2. Also yes, Sims 2 is a great game made with tons of love and attention in comparison to newer versions so I would agree a motive of lazy and fear.
The fact that she mentioned the petition I was checking in so often is really great. It’ll get more attention and I’m just all for it. Hopefully Juno Birch will see it and get more people signing it woop woop

What’s funny is if Cindy was to actually go on Origin, SimCity 2000 and Siberia are actually outselling The Sims 3 and it’s packs 😂 There’s no way that The Sims 2 would outsell The Sims 3, so that person was correct. BUT Origin didn’t filter by sales back in 2014, so we have no idea how The Sims 2 was selling or not, so the reason they took it off is still a mystery. According to SimsWiki, the PSP version of the Sims 2 was taken down the same day, which is super weird. Maybe there’s a song in them they couldn’t be bothered removing so they just pulled it?
