I love the moment at 1:29 of Bill joking hat "You know Jack Churchill, he's a character, of course he'd throw out his briefcase!" while Tom silently and furiously nods in agreement because he knows just how much of a character he really was. Brilliant episode for the old viewers

I was just surprised when Bill asked "is there an expectation that we know who Jack Churchill is?". It's one of those things that I assume everyone who has had access to the internet for a while knows. ""If it wasn't for those damn Yanks, we could have kept the war going another 10 years!"" - Jack "Mad Jack" Churchill
@MyRegardsToTheDodo
@MyRegardsToTheDodo 11 месяцев назад
He probably would have been executed by then. Because of his last name he wasn't treated like any other British POW after he got captured, but instead he was imprisoned with other prominent prisoners (the Nazis suspected him of being a relative of Winston Churchill). In April of 1945 he was part of a group of 141 prominent prisoners (imprisoned high-ranking military from other nations, high-ranking German political enemies of the Nazis, high-ranking policians from occupied countries, families of the Stauffenberg-assassination attempt...) that the SS transported to tyrol under orders to make sure that they wouldn't be taken by allied soldiers alive, so the SS basically had orders to execute the prisoners (including women and children). One of the prisoners managed to escape temporarily and make a phone call to the Wehrmacht, who then swooped in and freed the prisoners from the SS and basically let them go. Mad Jack then walked for 150 kilometers into Italy, until he reached the US troops.

@@losthor1zon yes, but I think the questions submitted by viewers are reviewed/picked by the same person who makes the rest of the questions. AFAIK David Bodycombe is the one. The fact that some of the guests were able to use their own questions, kind of supports my theory that the questions are not picked at random by participants, but assigned by the producer

@@panda4247 - I don't see that it supports that, though it also doesn't disprove it. But the fact that Tom referenced that a question was generated by the participant means he knew it would be, and therefore the producer at least must have known that also. The question might be whether they also vetted the question in advance. Which does seem likely, now that I think about it. For legal and RU-vid reasons, at least, to make sure there isn't some rule violation in it. So perhaps not always "assigned", but at least vetted for content.

Jack Churchill is not a well known figure, but he deserves to be.

This makes me miss Citation Needed, but at least they have a whole channel that they still upload to!

The best part about this video was knowing who jack churchill was, but not knowing he was the first guy to surf a tidal bore

As soon as I heard the name Jack Churchill I knew Tom would bow out of this one 😂 Also I found it funny that Tom said Churchill was Scottish when he was very adamant during citation needed that he was not Scottish

He’d absolutely an honorary Scottsman, to be fair.

So he wouldn't have to walk with it back to that point on his way home?

I guessed this one pretty much as soon as the question was read out - I thought it was the obvious answer, that would turn out to be completely wrong. The guests obviously need to go on more train journeys with stations in irritating places!

Well now Tom knows which of his guests haven't watched Citation Needed, and therefore can't expect to be invited back.

I got that one almost immediately, even though I did not know that Jack Churchil was this not-scotsman that brought a sword to a tank fight. I got it because that's a thing I seriously considered once or twice like when long distance train I was travelling on was passing slowly by the station next to my house.

My guess was way off. I was thinking along the lines of the plot of The Ladykillers (1955).
