Why are we still talking about these clowns? The Tories have destroyed this country and now they get a cushty job in opposition. Stuff's crazy. These people couldn't even hold themselves accountable for anything, never mind anyone else. I couldn't care less about these clowns.
😂😂😂😂😂 because they're rich enough to constantly put themselves in your face everyday. That's why cuz too many of us worship terrible people. All of human history is about the same thing. The rise of people of some type of nationalism
We will be saying the same things about Labour in 4 years... Already Kier Stalin is acting tyrannical but i guess that is because of 14 years of Tory austerity..😂
@@Alex.The.Lionnnnnalso Palpatine has build many things during his reign. They where death machines, sure, but they're more functional and achievable than a wall.😂
I don't like this phrase, it's defaming disabled people and putting them in the same context as the people who vilified and punished them for the last 14 years.
@@karlclark8625 It is offensive. In fact it is no more acceptable than the N word. People talk about 'casual racism' but people constantly say abeist remarks and hardly anyone criticises it. 🙄
@@karlclark8625 And it is the attitude of those who use those derogatory phrases that gave the Tories the excuse to scapegoat disabled people before it was immigrants being scapegoated. 🙄
I didn't listen live but the first thought that comes to mind is that you'd have to question the intelligence of someone who thinks an opposition that we were glad to get rid of really has anything useful to offer. They're pretty much the most innapropriate people to be holding anyone to account.
@alexgarland2747 Do you legit believe that a man who spent 21 years barely turning up to work, couldn't even be bothered to campaign for his own party and let Tice do all the groundwork just to swoop in at the last possible moment and make it all about himself and hasn't done a single thing for his constituency since being elected..actually wants the responsibility for overseeing the lives of 68 million people? 😂
Do you not realise, which ever side is in power, it is dangerous for society as a whole to have a weak opposition. I am very anti the last decade of tories but dont forget the % of the population who actually voted Labour was quite low....
I care, and I think the shortlist of candidates is brilliant. Whoever wins is guaranteed to drag the Tory party further down in the abyss, and I'll drink to that.
James talks about how crucial the role of opposition leader is, but never seemed to explain why it was important. The job is to stand in parliament and tell the government that they're doing it wrong. I fail to see how crucial that job is. The other job is to stand as a possible alternative to the government, but realistically, none of these clowns will ever be Prime Minister. It's irrelevant who leads these losers.
They don't need an opposition to convey the tory outlook, all they need is laura klingon and Fiona bruce who have being that job for ages.l know that quite a charge.
The 6 leadership hopefuls are not fit enough to be in an opposition front bench. These people helped put boris johnson and liz Truss into no 10. Hopefully, the tories will be out of power for generations.
This^ The Tories are still deeply rooted in the legacy of Johnson, Truss, and Sunak, all of whom were terrible leaders, did nothing to substantially tackle major issues that the current government are now trying to sort out such as the lack of sufficient prison spaces, wasted money on useless gimmicks like the Rwanda plan, and who have been among the most scandalous and unhinged politicians in Britain’s history. Jenrick, Cleverly, Badenoch are all just cheap poundshop versions of those three, and considering those trio were very unpopular with the public, who would care about or want to know about some cheap copycats of them?
The next general election feels too far away for it to matter. So much can happen in that time that there’s no real guarantee they’d be the leader at the next election. Also likely because it’s the same batch of names we’ve grown tired of, so there’s a bit of PTSD mixed in
I am a political anorak and my interest in the future opposition leader is minimal. I think because it will be the leader after this one or the one after that who will only have real political relevance. The tories are still in denial stage.
@JohnPark-xf2gq did you think interests rates we're gonna stay 0 for ever.. if you weren't so excited about immigration there may have been less of a bourdon on them thus making it easier for you to use them.
It's more of a malaise rather than not caring. All the candidates are underwhelming and It's multiple years (at least) until most of the country will take any serious notice of what any senior Tory has to say again. The public are exhausted by them after being forced to endure 14 years of their absolute mess. They were in government for far too long so most people have probably just developed a mental block towards anything to do with them. Furthermore. It's extremely unlikely anyway that whoever wins it will be the leader in 5 years time going in to a General Election. The Tories need a new group of politicians. New voices and new ideas and to get rid of the old guard.
Because this will be the 4th leader in 2 years. And the party is is such a dire state that they wont be relivent for at least a decade. I actually do care whos in. I want Kemi as the leader. She will do so much damage that the Tories wont be in power for a generation. Possibly even completely collapse.
Because we're just burnt out on Tory Leadership elections. 2017, 2019, 2022 Summer, 2022 Autumn. A big part of why we kicked the Tories out is the constant infighting, so we're not interested in watching more of it. We had to pay attention before because whoever won would be Prime Minister, but that's not true anymore.
I absolutely despised the current Tory lot when they were in power, and continue to now. However what I don't understand is why they're putting forward these people to be their leader. They all have associations to Johnson, Truss and Sunak. I don't think the public will accept them. They will always be associated negatively with that horrendous era from 2016-2024 when we saw dishonesty and corruption on a grand scale. They should honestly flip the Tory party oj it's head completely and put forward new blood. Someone brand new with new ideas. None of the awful morally corrupt people that we've just booted out.
At least this time when the tory hard of thinking vote again for their chief choas maker it should have a very limited effect on the people of the country.the only people who give a toss are the owners of the daily hate mail, the gammon express, the torygraph and the letsmakeupastorysun.
Find the six most inept, self serving, arrogant losers and put them forward to contest the leadership of an irrelevant political party, the Tories have surpassed themselves.
It seems to me that the reason many of us can't bring ourselves to care who wins and becomes the leader of the opposition is that it won't make any real difference who wins, they are all as bad as each other.
Labour have the numbers to have no opersition, whoever is leader of the opersition will fail to achieve anything and then get voted out fairly soon. All the candidates that have had ministerial jobs in the past have been terrible and forced to resign at one point.

@@stepearceu2 I can spell, but I'm a lousy typist. So I run anything I write through the spellchecker. I think dyslexic folk are quite able to do the same.
@@roderickjoyce6716 Yeah. None of us had a clue what "opersition" meant. It was impossible to figure out. It's like when people pronounce words incorrectly. I refuse to engage with them because it's beneath me. No excuse for poor spelling and we won't tolerate it, will we. Me and you. We English proppa.
The main reason that I don't care who wins is twofold: 1. I don't care about the tories anyway. 2. Whoever gets it will never by Prime Minister in the future.
As a Yank, I was taught that one of the big advantages of parliamentary systems is the emphasis on “measures, not men”. You don’t vote for individuals, you vote for ideas and platforms. It’s maddening to me that my countrymen vote for candidates based on their perceived personal characteristics rather than on their agenda. And why bother worrying about the person who becomes opposition leader if it’s nothing which you, as a voter, have any say?
I remember in Spitting Image, Mrs Thachters character saying "the guy standing opposite me may be a drivelling, snivelling vegetable but he is exatly what we need as the leader of the opposition!"
I think you should be concerned. The success or failure of the Tories over the next 5 years will dictate the possibilities for Reform. That you should be at least concerned about if you give two figs about democracy.
@@judithdavidson2356 Perhaps it depends on how interested you are in the interim and the effects of Tory success or failure as I said .But we definitely have control over the outcome of the next election , unless of course we don’t bother to vote .
No one from any party would get me excited tbh. I think 90% of the population are just done with all things government and politics because they are all so incredibly inadequate. You can see why farage (rightly or wrongly) actually captures peoples imaginations because he knows how to work a crowd.
I intensely dislike James O’Brien , in particular his sneering debating style . However on this subject I agree with him. Who takes over the Tories is going to make no difference to any of us.
You reckon James will talk about Kier Stalin cutting pensioners winter allowance? Or do you think he will just bash the Tories for the next 4 years while ignoring Labours woeful tenor?
If the Conservatives are simply electing a leader who has the same policies as the previous Conservative government, why should a voter care? Take a look at all the LibDem MPs and Labour MPs. Why would the result be different? Conservatives need to take their time and go outside the MPs, for a new leader. They need new policy that UK voters can support.
They could pick Reg Varney from On The Buses for all I care. Their psychodrama and wilful incompetence took up too much space in my brain when they were in charge
The Conservative Party of white English/British Nationalism is finished out side of England. Yet the people of England still are not allowed to use the Brexit word or call the rest of the UK by name and not the "Northern and Western parts of Great Britain". Until you join the EU with no cherry picking, you will go nowhere.
There’s no point in a far right party holding a centre right party to account. They will both do nothing for the people. I really wished the Green Party would be the opposition.
an opposition leader means nothing, especially if you're choosing from people who were already part of the worst government in our history. The opposition leader didn't do anything when the Tories were ripping the country apart, so even if Labour do the same, the Tories couldnt make a change even if they wanted to.
They had people like Rory Stewart who could stand up for his beliefs and was more centralist than right-wing and he got kicked out because he wanted to stop a no-deal Brexit disaster. Now we have people like Patel who would bring back the death sentence (for us, not them or their friends, of course) and comes from a family of asylum seekers but wants to ship people abroad like it's the 1800s.
I think a lot of us don't care because we were hoping that it would be the Lib Dems as the official opposition. (With the hope that Lib Dems would criticise Labour from a center-left perspective, given that we're probably not going to get a more left-wing alternative, unless we get a new voting system and Greens pick up enough votes and MP's to make a difference)
