Why JIM CUMMINGS Didn’t Pay Attention to Hannah Barbera’s Warning to Voice Actors

45 years ago, those "four or five" people that did voices were already in the business for 45 years. They didn't live forever. Today, several people interchangeably do the Mel Blanc legacy characters, for example. Lack of foresight on the author.

This guy's voice is so recognizable. Some VA folks they have to turn it on, or are sort of recognizable off the bat, but this guy has done so much, his regular voice pattern is like seeing an old friend. Simply sensational.

Even "experts" can be completely wrong. They wouldn't hold auditions if voice talent wasn't needed. They would just call those 5 people and that would be the end of it. Additionally, there's the fact that Jim came into the industry at the tail end of some major VA's careers as well, but he's certainly not the only one. Many well known VAs popped up in the '80s. And, yeah... With cable and satellite tv literally taking off, more projects were being made. So yeah. Experts can be wrong.

Granted the era the book was written in probably was completely different than today, the company has not existed in more than twenty years. If the original core of employees was involved would have been pre cable or video games having VO.

Hanna-Barbera , not Hannah Barbera, people, - or even, God forbid, Hannah Barbara or Hanna-Barbara - named after William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. When it comes to people's names, don't rely on spellcheck and autocorrect to give you the correct spellings. Double check with a reliable source before publishing.

BOFO?!?! I remember the Dumbo show from when I was a kid! I haven't thought of it in YEARS!!! I royally forgot about everything pertaining to that show, even the character Lion-O, but I remember him now after watching this video. That costume had the tail tied in a knot near the fur pommel at the end. Even as a kid, OCD was messing with me wishing that that knot wasn't tied. I get it now, though, if it was a 4 foot tall actor in the suit, they would have needed to tie the knot to prevent issues. Duh. Like I said, I was a kid at the time, and was totally clueless about these things. I certainly haven't thought about that show since . . . let's not talk about that part, but this guy was Lion-O. Lion-O! Only after watching this video do the memories come rushing back. Including his character catch phrase that I hadn't even thought of since the 80's. "BOFO". Holy sh*t. That was a trip, right there.
