Julian Assange has a long, complicated past. But regardless of what you think of him and what he did, you should care about what happens to him. Here’s why.
Check out two very solid documentaries on Assange for a deeper understanding of him as a person:
- Risk (2016), by Laura Poitras (we used a little footage from that doc in the intro)
- We Steal Secrets (2013), by Alex Gibney

@Johnnyharris overall this highly viewed video was a successful message to inform people of the urgency in protecting our sacred First Amendment rights! Your video shows that the Biden administration chooses to continue appealing the ASSANGE case even though US press freedom is at stake, particularly investigative journalism. So, you transparently mention that you are not promoting Julian Assange's personality here but the implications of this historic case, which is agreed upon by many. However, I ask you why you FAIL to list the facts of the multiple global awards Assange has won for his journalism and the license he has as an Australian Journalist versus decades ago as a hacker. Why do you leave this out? Are you afraid you might expose the positive points of his personality such as courageous, anti war, anti corruption, truth teller, highly intelligent? I also support recommending the documentary 'Risk' but highly reject the listed mention of,'We Steal Secrets' by Alex Gibney as this video claiming to be a documentary has an abundant amount of propaganda meant to defame Assange. This so called documentary is made available to stream right before there are any new developments in Assange's case and should be considered government propaganda not a fact based documentary. Wikileaks has warned viewers of this type of mainstream media's propaganda push and urges viewers to seek out other more fact based films recommended by the site AssangeDefense.org. So, my question to you is why disconnect from the historic relevance of this case the heroic and personal sacrifices made by Assange, the person?!

The crux of their (not mine) argument is that Assange would have been responsible for the deaths of honest Americans doing their job in Iraq because of the informations he published and made accessible to the enemy who located and shot them down. So it is a pursuit for murder complicity, basically. And even if you cause deaths while being in another country, you are guilty and subject to extradition, especially when in a country subject to the same system of law (anglo-saxon Common Law). The problem is that these Americans killed had no business being in Iraq and therefore cannot be called honest. But you cannot say that to Americans nowadays. Since they lost in Vietnam thanks in great part to their whistleblowers they will no longer tolerate the latter.
@maazkalim
@maazkalim 2 года назад
“Common Law” doesn't mean what you think it does. Besides, it's not the system in most of this one-&-only Planet's jurisdictions, anyways. What you're looking for is: Extraterritoriality of jurisdiction. And Uncle Sam really believes that he has the jurisdiction to enforce his own laws anywhere across this one-&-only Planet, and even beyond - Ms "@@MrMirville". And that's why, even in the unlikeliest cases of Free Market Capitalism: The FCPA which is initialism for Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, meant to curb corruption-inducing practices of corporate Murica, was used to penalise Alstom very hard, followed by Ericsson few years later - as the latest-example. That was made possible by the change passed by Congress under the 1st Clinton administration. So when it's that recalcitrant for the Capitalists, you could only image how the outcomes of court-cases in matters of _libel_ could possibly play out. Hopefully I won't need to spell that part out. The most glaring example of this is as far back as the 70s when our PM Gough Whitlam got coup’d by the CIA for moving Australia’s foreign and domestic policy too far out of line with what the US wanted, like trying to pull us out of Vietnam, charging foreign (mostly US lol) mining companies more for selling our resources (since even to this day they’re pretty well robbing us blind), and apparently even threatening to close Pine Gap (a strategically vital intel asset operated by the CIA themselves near Alice Springs). That’s not a conspiracy theory by the way, just about everyone involved in Gough’s dismissal had proven links to the CIA, like the Governor-General himself was part of the ‘Congress for Cultural Freedom’ (read: proven CIA networking agency) and got name dropped by the CIA themselves multiple times as basically being “their man” in Australia. So yeah, we’re not doing too well sadly.

@@adanactnomew7085 I dont believe thats exactly what it says, illegally obtained evidence is being used on daily basis, mostly by regular people but sometimes even if it was obtained by the state or the federal agency, and imo if the evidence is clear and its origin and authenticity is legit too then I think it should be even mandatory to use it if captures the truth and facts. I mean the idea behind it is good, when the evidence was unlawfully obtained by the state, as they should lead by an example, but if its the case the individual obtained the evidence and it shows objective truth and reality then it shouldnt be ever declined, maybe and what happens pretty often is that the individual is charged for obtaining the evidence unlawfully, but it gets accepted if it shows facts, thats pretty common in EU. If it isnt accepted tho, thats basically pretty much denying or ignoring the truth. From what I noticed that is quite a popular practice these days, people just love to lie to themselves or be ignorant to objective truth and facts.

The definition of crime is pretty clear. The meaning is not and in the case of the USA, it's pretty corrupt. None of the many things Trump did during and after his tenure are by any meaningful standard crimes. Some might be technically hard to prove, but he obviously committed crimes. There is no way how you can abused power, erode institutions in charge of protecting the constitution, blackmail foreign statesmen for personal gain using the power of your office, redirect US military to your hotels, incite a violent coup attempt and so much more. He is still not indicted for any of these and all the crimes I did not mention. All of them were committed in plain sight, we know the factual basis of these accusation from media reporting and for the most part, these reported fact have not even been denied. If you pay with a fake $20 bill, you get publicly executed on the street by a police officer, if you commit treason, the real treason, you not only get away, you also have good chances to be re-elected to an office that makes you immune from prosecution. This is so disgusting, it hurts even thinking about it. This is not as you say a general problem. Power corrupts, but the state of corrupting in the USA is extreme. It's what one would expect in a banana republic or in Russia.

Orwell is trying to warn readers not to let any one group gain too much power.” ¶ here, you can inculcate within yourself the famous quote, “power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” an opposing force is always required to maintain the equilibrium of power. back then, it was the soviet union, which was keeping the us within its limits. now, it’s the united nations organisation, or china, or european nations, upon whom the us’ economy depends. > “He exhorts readers against believing rulers when they say terroristic or oppressive actions are for the common good. They never are.” ¶ needless to say, in this particular situation, the “ruler” is us. it’s oppressing the noble actions and says it’s for people’s good, as “it keeps intact the ’peace and security’ it has established among its states and other nations.” ¶ with that attitude of yours, i’m afraid one day we will all have to suffer equally, for even the wrongdoers will regret their actions.

That's the reality of war, it's horrible. What is to be held accountable is careless protocol from their higher ups however. These men are just trying to adapt to the absolute mayhem they're in and they're conditioned to do whatever is asked and cannot afford to second guess it. I think unless you experience it yourself you'd never understand. We can only hold the pigs that never saw a moment of war but commanded the atrocities accountable

Point is just because we see war crimes happen, horrible pictures and videos of soldiers doing fucked up things of which they should be held accountable, it is not the image of every soldier as all of them are their own person in how they handle the mess that they entered. Anyone can be criminalized for their work. The problem is we let sh*t people into charge, because of some "tests" and slanderous libel whilst people who experienced and mastered the work didn't get into meritful position because of some tests that requires institutionalized language. I've seen teachers getting sanctione for keeping students at school overtime, despite this teacher is an actual counselor and the parents are abusive. Also other way around where parents are humiliated for not schooling childrens despite knowing the bullying they endured, as a parent and student. There are much more evil people in life, and we learnt it the hard way. The fastest way to spot them, is to see if they can hold responsibility and accountability. And in my latest experience is that 125 out of 183 subjects cheated the tests. The most evil one were the 17 people who didn't admit.
