Eric sim came back to Colby cc in 2013 fall. I had been an all conference pitcher as a freshmen, personally thought I was a dude, he stood in on my bullpen, said you’re curveball is good as fuck, you’ll have a good college career but you throw 87. Get your degree. *crying Jordan meme insert*

My advice: I played D1 out of high school. 86-88 RHP. Pitched around 30 innings as a freshman. Hurt my elbow sophomore year and lost my scholarship. Looking back I feel like I should've slowed down, got stronger, played either JUCO or moved south. Fortunately I became a doctor. Some friends made the bigs. BTW really cool Trevor participates in these talks...

Missed my opportunity to play JUCO, but I definitely relate to the part about wanting to play ball. Playing varsity as a sophomore, I hardly got playing time because they always started the seniors and juniors. I remember the day myself and 2 of my other teammates stepped down to JV just so we could actually get playing time.

JUCO ball for life! I always said I played two seasons within every hear of JUCO ball. There is no regulations for practice/amount of games that are allowed during fall ball. The Wabash Valley Juco schools would play around 40-50 games during fall ball. Not to mention the vibe of Junior college is amazing.

Would love to hear from big leaguers that played at any level (D1, D2, D3, NAIA, Juco) share their individual experiences and what they feel they benefited the most from where they played before going pro. I never got to the big leagues but I was a juco guy. Did well enough to get on D1 radars. Turned down some notable programs for better financial support. Ended up getting drafted twice. One thing worth discussing is how the success, or lack there of, of a program can play into getting seen and potentially allow players to move on. Example: my freshman year at a CA JC I had 8 innings as a reliever until the super regional championship game, but since we were in that position there were a lot of eye on us. I go 8 1/3 against Sac City and we win. Onto the final four. That single performance pretty much opened the door for me to eventually become a professional pitcher

Great advice! I was D1 talent but didn’t compete against other D1 talent in HS. When I got to campus at a P5 program, I wasn’t prepared for the step up in competition. I would have been much better off stepping up the competition in JUCO or a non P5 school. Going from being able to knock a bat out of the hands of 7/9 hitters to pitching to a line up of all Americans is too big of a jump.

I was a D1 kid out of high school that was fortunate enough to start very early in my career BUT juco is a great opportunity for kids who aren’t sure how much they might get to play early in their careers at a D1 school. No One wants to sit anywhere so go wherever gives you the best opportunities to play early and often

Playtime should be everyone's top priority. Where you play doesn't matter. D1, D2, D3, or Juco. Doesn't matter. Find a place where you can get into the mix from Day 1. Develop. Grow. Move forward.

This goes for most professions especially when you do your most extensive training in postgraduate. Why accrue $250-400K in debt which teaches you nothing that will carry onto your professional development. If I were to become a banker, biochemist, or engineer, then perhaps a more expensive school is worth it because employers only hire from these schools.

I also advocate for JUCO. I seen a lot of guys injure themselves training too hard and/or not giving themselves time to recover because their mindset was D1 or nothing. With college baseball not even giving full ride scholarships at the D1 level for the most part, playing your first year or two at a JUCO can do a lot of good.

juco is good especially for talented guys who didn’t get themselves in into recruiting but at the end of the day d1 baseball is d1 baseball and juco is just another path to get their so it’s def not better just different path

Eric makes that shit sound fun but that shit can be straight up brutal.

Plus I honestly don’t see my self starting in my first 2 years at the schools i’m talking to. My community college has a really good JUCO program and it would be a fix for all of the above. Thoughts?

Sim eventually transferred to USF, a D1. Not knocking Juco, it’s great for late bloomers, but if you’re a position guy, and you wanna eventually play pro ball, you need to graduate to D1/D2 ball, it’s simply a must. The Juco hitter is the least desirable demographic in the draft, Tim Anderson was the last Juco position guy to go first round. If you’re a position guy and you have the chance, go D1!!
