Why Justice League Failed 

Just realized when I published this that I made a typo spelling "Shakespeare" near the end of the video. I am now turning myself into RU-vid Jail and I hope you all can forgive me...

The biggest mistake DC is making is trying to compete or be Marvel and the MCU right now. They have great characters that people love that have great stories waiting to be told. They just need to do their own thing and let it happen organically, rather than trying to "capitalize" on the current "trend".

They almost need to scrap this version of the DC eu and start over.

I finally found the review that voices my thoughts. Not to mention the tone felt inconsistent to me. There was a scene that threw me off - when WW smiles and says "I'm working with children" after the JL defeat the villain. Nowhere else in the movie we see JL acting like children except for the Flash..kinda, so that line felt unnecessary. Also it kind of sucked to see Batman used as a gag. Yeah, he doesn't have powers but that's what makes him so amazing. He still can kick ass. Don't get me wrong; the joke can be funny; but in the movie, it felt like it had no punchline.

cyborg's introduction and arc were fragmented and unclear, wonder woman was almost irrelevant, batman was... too restrained as always, the flash was quirky but a little extrapolated, aquaman was half-assed, superman was... a little weird tbh, the emotion of the movie was unfounded... this is the justice league, not some random patchwork superhero miso-mash. guess this is what happens when you try to squeeze months of work in 2 hours.

Robin's character died in wonder woman bro

You know why i think dceu fanboys (not dc fanboys) are worst than mcu fanboys? They try to convince you that dceu movies are masterpiece all the time. I've never seen any mcu fanboy try to convince me that mcu movies are masterpiece, they try to convincd that they are good but they have the lucidity to not go too far in that.

I went into the movie with low expectations, so I was neither disappointed or wowed. JL is far from a perfect movie, but I personally felt like it was a step in the right direction. I’m just hoping that it does well enough at the box office for DC to continue with this “universe”. I’d hate to see a reboot this early.

Who's here after watching the Snyder Cut? I am!

I get the feeling that DC is in too much of a rush to catch up with Marvel in the cinematic universe. Marvel really took it's time to develop many of their characters before going all in with an Avengers Movie. DC needs to take a step back, all of their movies seem to have these slightly clunky oversized ensemble casts. Too many storylines, character developments and back stories make for a jumbled mess. Slow it down DC. What's the rush?

I dont think there was a let down, there was no hype to begin with, so there was nothing to be disappointed with

they supposed to make at least one stand alone movie for each characters while waiting for a good script. They wanted to join the racve with Marvel's Avengers too early

One of the reasons justice league failed is that they didn’t take time to develop there characters so some people barely knew some of the characters from justice league but In the mcu iron man, black widow, Thor, and hulk were already in mcu movies before avengers 1

I did have fun with the movie at times but it's flaws can't be denied. This is why it's always good when a fan is able to notice these things. Hopefully DC will get better.

My suggestion for the DCEU: 1. First Batman solo 2. Man of Steel. Superman always tries to do good. The people of Metropolis love him because he always saves people. However, his battle with Zod caused a thousand deaths in Gotham. 3. BVS. Batman does not like Metropolis for blindly trusting a God-like being. Keep the 'Martha' bit. Because it could have been done better. Superman is more human, so Batman found some common ground with Superman. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman defeat Doomsday (better design please). Lex Luthor later recruits Deathstroke. 4. Wonder Woman origin story. The really good movie we had. Lex Luthor finds Cheetah imprisoned somewhere. 5. Aquaman. Lex Luthor later recruits Black Manta. 6. The Flash. Lex Luthor tries to recruit Reverse Flash. 7. Cyborg. Lex Luthor tries to create Grid after the movie. 8. Justice League vs Injustice League. Done

You're right about the effects. Black Panther proves that shoddy or rough effects doesn't stop a movie from being loved if it's written and made well.

I would've forgiven the justice league movie and DC as a whole but then I saw how Ezra Miller was running

The problem with Justice League will always be that single issue: why is everyone else needed when Superman can do it himself.

Guys superman was considered a savior after the events of bvs cause he sacrifaced himself to save us who resented him.Even though we rejected him he still gave his life for ours and so that showed humanity how much of truly heroic person superman was and why we shouldn't have rejected him the way we did in bvs.So his death makes a bigger impact as people see how much worse everything is without him.The justice league hasn't formed and different heroes are doing small small crimefighting not enough to save people from the fear and now the rise of crime in cities.I honestly don't understand why people have such a gripe with this plot point.

The Zack Snyder JL cut was actually really great. I can really see why Cyborg's actor especially was pissed off about how much they cut out. My only problem with it was the last sequence with the Joker. I can totally understand why they didn't want to release a 4 hour long movie in theaters, but to cut it down to 2 hours was ludicrous and insulting. It's practically a completely different movie and it filled in all of the jarringly bad edits and cuts that were made by Joss "No Means Yes" Whedon. I appreciated Wonder Woman and the Flash a lot more in particular; it's crazy how much characterization they threw out the window in the theatrical cut. I'm sure the higher-ups at WB wanted to can the sequels primarily because of their similarity to the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, but to be fair Darkseid first debuted in 1970 whereas Thanos appeared in 1973 (Justice League first debuted in 1960 and The Avengers in 1963) so it's really the other way around except Disney/Marvel beat them to releasing their movies in theaters first. It really sucks that Justice League 2 and 3 are most likely never going to be made. As usual, Warner Brothers squanders the potential of DC.

How funny is (in 2022) watching you talking about the cast

I'm watching this and thinking of what the Snyder Cut would have made better. Cyborg, Steppenwolf, Flash, maybe Aquaman. I genuinely hope that they get their fair due next year.

WB fails to understand that different characters need different movie styles. Batman can be a dark movie and Superman can be a more light movie. This can be seen in DC shows. Arrow is dark and realistic while Supergirl is very bright and happy and yet they can still team up in the same show.

The advertising proved to be a lie, apparently you can save the world alone if your superman.

I think the DCEU is just in a very early stage at the moment. Not to mention all the changes and alterations made during its making. It’ll get better but these next films like Aquaman really need to prove themselves.

What I’d do. Take inspiration from Marvel where the MCU’s direction is decided by a council of people who know what they’re doing made up of experienced Marvel Comics writers, editors and artists. Put someone in charge experienced with successfully adapting DC Comics to the screen: Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett. Have them form a cabinet from experienced creators. Also retcon the entire DCEU except for Wonder Woman.

Snyder cut fixed everything

Justice leauge war is such an amazing JL movie...... It's barely 1:15 hrs but it's way better... If they could have done that in those 2hrs it would have been really great

I have to disagree when it comes to the DCEU's Superman. I don't understand why people expect Superman to be either a beacon of hope or very dark. I think Zack Snyder had a very clear vision of character development that he wasn't able to pull through completely. First of all, I think it makes a lot of sense that the world is grieving over the loss of Superman. It's always been this way, right? As soon as someone dies, human kind realises their value and praises them. I think that's what happened after BvS. I also like how "dark" the BvS Superman was at first. It makes sense. When the first Superman comic was released in the thirties, we didn't get a proper explanation for his behaviour or a background story. He's always just been there. There were some attempts to fix this (e. g. Birthright, Man of Steel etc). I loved that they showed how much Superman was affected by everything that had been going on, the guilt he felt - it made him just even more human. I didn't feel like it didn't add up because you could say that he was reborn. He had to die to come back and realise how powerful he is and realise the good he can do with all the power he has. I think it's what Superman deserved as a character.

I agree so much with the casting, but the execution was just wth. They literally had it all. The money, cast, brand, a whole comic series for good plot. How could they mess up this badly?

Great movie but the issue was by studio design. They wanted to rush it out. Play catch up with MU. Big mistake. DC should have paced themselves. Film by origin film. Worked with WW perfectly. Then should have done Cyborg, then the Flash. Build up to the JL. Stop worrying about Marvel and be DC...

DC is just trying to catch up with Marvel.

I couldn’t find the “weird upper lip”, and I wasn’t disturbed by it...

One problem with the DC universe is the inconsistent attitude towards characters within that universe. For instance, Gotham Police officers try shooting Batman in BvS but Gotham Police/Commissioner Gordon still uses the Bat Signal to summon Batman. Also, the world seems very uneasy about Superman. Although we briefly see Superman rescue people we never get to see public's attitude change from suspicion to loving admiration. So it is baffling when Superman gets a state funeral and the whole world goes into mourning when he dies fighting Doomsday - a battle that took place in deserted part of Metropolis and out of sight from the public. And why does the world not feel anything about Wonder Woman? She tries saving people and fights crime in full costume but no one talks about her. These inconsistencies make the DC universe weak. DC and Warner Brothers needed a clear long~term plan and several more Solo movies before going into a full universe

I just think DC needs to keep batfleck because he seems like he could be a really good batman and I think his performances so far have all been very good particularly in BVS but there just hasn’t been enough time to explore him properly. I want DC to explore his relationship with the joker as well, who I think could also be really good but we need more screen time of him too. I think the main problem with the DCEU atm is they’ve tried to start in the middle sort of. They need to start with solo movies and quality movies not rushing any out so they can explore the characters. I believe BVS could’ve worked if it came out in a MCU type timeline so we have the knowledge of the characters (and not use the creature in the final scenes)

The right Justice League was the one that George Miller was making back in 2007 but we will never see it because of the Writers Strike that was happening at the time.

Everything will fail if you compare it to the comics

WB have gone in the direction of throwing out the Zack Snyder vision for the dark conflicted characters. They are essentially going to pretend BVS never happened the it did and that Justice League is the birth of the characters going forward except for Wonder Woman. It is essential that a Man of Steel 2 and a Batman solo film happen and that they are both excellent. They are trusting that the Aquaman film will do for the character what the Wonder Woman film did for her character. The key is to write them faithful to the comic counterparts in thought and action without forsaking entertainment value. The Justice League film left me hopeful for the future of the DC movies. The changes made looked ugly but were very necessary.

I expected this title to be "A GREAT FAILURE"

I think the worst villain in the DCEU has to be Doomsday. He shares the exact same origin story as Nuclear Man which they shamelessly try to hide it by making it dark and serious.

Even without the reshoots and everything. If you look at the what you would expect to see from a bvs Sequel or just any movie in the same bvs. It kills this movie. Like what the hell happened flash back. Batman had a ton of dream sequences in bvs forshadowing what’s to come and the biggest one being the dream that wasn’t a dream. Batman doesn’t know the extent of flashes powers in this movie as well as there are a lot of other bigger things in bvs that they just expect us to forget

I believe Justice League is the 2nd best DCEU movie thus far, just behind Wonder Woman. Man of Steel had action, destruction, and sadness to spare, but wasn't fun. Batman versus Superman had a curious intrigue and fascination, but wasn't fun nor entertaining either. Justice League was uneven, but had enough fun to make up for the flaws. The obvious flaw being the Villain, and how easily the villain is defeated by Superman. The scene where Superman almost kills Batman is much more tense, than the actual climax of the story. Although the one family shown in peril was well handled. And no, I'm not a DCEU fanboy.

jason momoa almost saved this movie. you gotta give it to who ever casted him. they turned aqua man, the dumbest hero of them all, to a badass looking badass. his lines arent great, but he looks awesome

Unpopular Opinion: I don’t think the Snyder Cut would be nearly as good as it has been hyped to be. Better, yeah. A consistent tone. But not the perfect thing people are making it out to be. Also - Joss Whedon is not solely to blame for what happened with Justice League. He’s proven how good he can be with Buffy, Angel, Firefly and especially The Avengers. He can make a great superhero film. It’s more the tonal clash and studio interference.

The people behind the DCEU should all be fired. All they wanted to do was cash in on the success of the MCU. All the Avengers had solo movies (or appeared in an MCU movie) prior to the first Avengers movie. And each movie was great or at least good enough that it familiarized audiences with characters. The people behind JL thought man of steel, BVS, and WW were everything they needed to make a successful mega movie but turned out to be barely the bare minimum for a crap movie.

I know It's a very late response and not related to the WHY JL STORY FAILED but I have a few say on your review about how it ended up the way it did-ish. 1.) WB and SYNDER: How they played it out. RUSH and FANSERVICE. The other rushing to the competition, the other just loves to overdo it. 2.) Zack's DIRECTION and SOURCES: He chooses ELSEWORLD arcs from a few novels and games instead of taking just a few inspirations from them and choosing a good comic arc for the main story basis, hence what we got. An unclear purpose of conflict so chaotic that the RESOLUTION and ENDGAME don't pan out. He's limiting his sources despite WB having access to every proprietary right to DC and He's barely even touched the good ones. Example: If I'm gonna label his films correctly it would be: TDKR (for BvS leave Doomsday the fuck alone) and INJUSTICE (The Snyder Cut of JL..and Cyborg) although I wouldn't consider them Mainstream since they are ELSEWORLD and are only connected with CRISIS events mostly cameos. Unlike CIVIL WAR or even Days of Future Past which are in the mainstream arcs for MARVEL Comics respectively Avengers and X-Men. 3.) Wheddon...The only thing I'm bummed about him is that He went to score an animated series over a live action. Other than that I really can't blame him. He made the best with what he had.

How to save the DC movies: make them part of the Arrowverse. Whether hard-core fans like the Arrowverse or not, these shows are quite a hit and it would work. And we'd get rid of that silly Flash in favour of a great one!

The real problem is that marvel took the time to make the characters relatable with their own movies . Dc just jumped into the end game and expected everyone to let it pass .

Simply put - Marvel: 10 year methodical plan DC: Rushed scripts and production to catch up to Marvel, a company that lagged them for decades. I am as much of a DC fan as I am of Marvel (and Dark Horse and IDW), but DC (really Warner) has to take a step back and start from scratch. No rush, but a long term plan to create a proper cinematic universe.

They should’ve filmed their solo movies first before teaming up. It would copy Marvel, but it would have been better for the long run and JL could have been epic like Avengers.

Well, the marketing certainly failed. "Hey!! Let's do Justice League like Marvel did the Avengers, but do something stupid in the leadup movie that makes it seem like a good idea to KEEP OUR SECOND MOST POPULAR CHARACTER OUT OF ALL OF THE ADVERTISING. That'll make casual fans want to come watch it!!"

This movie pretty much highlighted my issue with how they portrayed Superman. A lot of DCEU fans say how Superman needed to be developed and go through struggles to become the hopeful hero we know and love. That sort of aggravates me because he shouldn't need to BECOME Superman because he IS Superman. What really makes his lighter persona jarring is that when we last saw him, he's this dour and depressing person, showing almost none of the traits, if at all, we see in JL. I'm not saying that he couldn't go through struggles and times of self doubt, but those should have been used to REINFORCE his hopeful and kind persona, not bring them light. If anything, Wonder Woman was the Superman movie we should have gotten. She's hopeful, even to a naive degree, and is met with challenges that pretty much make her doubt everything she stands for yet in the end she reaffirms her beliefs and triumphs in the end. THAT is what we should have gotten with Superman in MoS and BvS. Developing him over multiple films wasn't even a bad idea either. Hell I even loved having the earth doubt him and having him earn their trust over time. Too bad they just killed him off and suddenly he's a savior that's loved by everyone, pretty much going for a cop out to the issue and forcing in some more already unsubtle Jesus imagery, on top of wasting a perfectly good storyline which could have been better utilized later on. The way they talked about him in JL (especially in that opening scene with Superman) makes it seem as if Superman was always this bright character, which just makes it all the more jarring how he went from BvS to JL. The DCEU so far has just been a bunch of great ideas soured by horrible execution. I keep hearing people go on and on about the subtext and "depth" but subtext doesn't do jack shit if the delivery of said subtext is awful. We don't praise the Happening for having a message about us having to be better custodians of the Earth because everything surrounding that message is garbage.

Watching this movie, I was thinking to myself "I feel like I'm watching a superhero film that came out a couple of years after Daredevil"

The problem with the JL can be summed up pretty easily: It wasn't about the villain. The villain carries any hero team-up movie. If the movie isn't about the villain it's simply not any good.

The animation of DC is just way better than their movies

I understand if you say you enjoyed this movie but that doesn’t make it a “good” movie. Enjoying a movie doesn’t excuse the lazy writing and poor effort put into the cinematography and CGI. It’s awful that Zack Snyder experienced such a horrible tragedy whilst shooting the movie, but unfortunately it doesn’t change the fact he’s not a good writer. He clearly struggles to develop characters properly and is unable to “show not tell”. He throws in a load of dialogue expecting us to care but we don’t. The only characters I slightly cared for was Wonder Woman and the other amazonians, and that was only because of the Wonder Woman movie. I felt no emotion when watching the movie and didn’t particularly care for any of the characters. Before this movie I never agreed with people saying DC are trying to be like Marvel. But this movie is a mess, the tone of the movie is all over the place, and the humour is so forced in. So many moments felt very unnatural. I don’t know if it’s because they had to change directors part way or because they’re attempting to be more light hearted like Marcel movies, but either way it didn’t work. I never had an issue with DC trying to be more dark/realistic but now it’s clear even they’re not sure if they want to be dark or light hearted. My biggest issue by far though is how underdeveloped the characters are and the lack of emotion behind everything. You can’t just have a character say they feel one way and expect us to empathise. You need to show it and make us somehow relate to them and actually care. Otherwise it’s just lazy writing.

They built up to nothing because no one knows Steppenwolf and nobody cares that he is the villain. Then again the villain in Thor Ragnarok had the same issue but the Thor was fun. The comedy of Ezra Miller fell flat and his character wasn't interesting.

The Flash suit is over-designed, making it ridiculous.

DC rushed it.trying to catch up to Marvel,big mistake. IT so obvious,Marvel laid down the blueprint qhy couldn't they just follow it !! Give all your heroes a stand alone movie get the fans invested the bring all the heroes and their fans together in one big blockbuster to Defeat a powerful villain that no one Hero can tackle. Whats so hard about that formula!
