Unfortunately this also lines up with the Japanese name of the move Night Slash which WAS this lines best Dark Type Move other than Knock Off prior to Gen 9's introduction of Kingambit. The Japanese name of Night Slash is "Crossroad Kill". . . . This is because clearly this line of Pokémon is mainly based off of not only Chess but Samurai, specifically a General from the Shogun period. In which the Samurai would test newly forged swords by lying in a bush or obscured by trees and the landscape at night and lie in wait for someone to pass by. Then jumping out and slashing them with their blade. This was most common at paths that came to a crossroads as it provided more cover and area of attack which the Samurai could leap out from anywhere in a full 360 degrees radius upon the passer-by in which they would always have a blind spot no matter where they would look or turn. Hence the name Crossroad Kill and it being a Dark Type Move. About the most evil way to slash an opponent while shrouded in the complete darkness of the night. Hence the English name Night Slash. This would also explain why the move has such a high Critical Hit Ratio. There's very little most opponents can do to prepare for it, this they are caught off guard and more susceptible to it being a Critical Hit. A RU-vid video by Lockstin/Gnoggin explains this whole inspiration and more about the Bisharp line in a video on his channel. Including a new one about Kingambit which I highly recommend checking it out along with his videos on Japanese Names of Pokemon and moves as well as Dark Type Moves specifically and why they are Dark Type. Usually because they are dishonorable or deceptive and underhanded in nature or very cruelly precise and give little chance for recovery against them as they are seen as more disturbing or evil and thus are Dark Type. On a similar note, similar details regarding Samurai are part of the inspiration for the move Retaliate. And in particular why it's animation was probably one of the MOST overhauled and detailed animation in the jump from the 2D Sprite era of Pokémon to the 3D Model Era of Pokémon. And of course, the Kingambit line learns this move as well and so do many Dark Types. All of this is explained in videos on Lockstin/Gnoggin's channel too and I highly recommend checking them out as well. These are some of the many reasons why I love the Kingambit line.
