Watching on linux mint! As for the ai stuff btw, I have ollama for running chatbots, and easy diffusion for generating images, all running on my local hardware. From my experience linux makes the easy stuff harder, but the hard stuff easier.

Things have improved is not like that, however there are still some circumstances were linux is still not user friendly, they are not frequent but they are still there. That said love the video and love Sam, would love to see a full review from him of a friendly distro like mint, fedora or ubuntu.

I've used numerous distros and even PC-BSD for a while. They're all fine for various tasks. These days most people not in IT or power gaming don't really need to worry about their OS at all. They could honestly get by with a Chromebook for 90% of their "computer" usage.

Linux is safer not only because it's less attractive for hackers (cause that's not even true, since it's dominating the servers market and a server is much juicier a target than some PC) but because it is properly designed from the very start. Also, there is a huge difference between the old legendary Linux that you are describing and today's beast: the scary terminal is not really needed, not more than having to edit the registry in Windows and the "compatibility of parts" with Linux is a thing of ancient past. Linux is like tap water: cheap, abundant, safe and fit to purpose in 99.99% of the cases (more than Windows) but corporations spend billions in marketing to persuade gullible people to buy bottled water. Contrast that with the cost, security and privacy risks (or rather certainties) of its competitors...

I never had any problem with hardware on Linux. Everything just works. Except Nvidia. That is a little more of a pain. I heard pop OS does Nvidia well, and Nvidia is being more Linux friendly lately, so it will probably stop being a wall

Well, other than the bit about TempleOS, which isn't a Linux, I can't entirely fault what you're saying. However, as someone who is more knowledgeable about how computers work, I haven't had nearly any of those problems with using Linux. Also, I've had my parents testing out Mint for the past 6 months, and they haven't complained once and I've had no calls for "tech support". Granted, they don't play games or do anything more complex than other old people, but still, if it works it works.

I am pretty happy I switched over to MInt.

great video, but yeah Im a longtime Linux user, I agree with most of this, novice computer users should not attempt to use linux, their endeavor will end in frustration. Anyone wanting to make the jump from Windows should know that, Linux can function like Windows, but it is NOT windows, its a totally different ecosystem, be ready to re-learn EVERYTHING. That being said, KDE is a very windows like experience, and 99% of all my games, regular and VR work on Linux with proton steam and lutris.

If you think linux is pain and . Try "Why AmigaOS is better" . The linux users choose pain. The Amiga users where raised in pain and desilusion.

You know what linux distros do better then even industry level software??? uninstalling a distro and reinstalling. no software has ever been as good at removing itself from existance. It is the only thing i can count on when working with linux. Seriously they shouldnt focus on assembling multiple disteos into a single one, what with like 40x the amount of developers wotking on linux then windows. each one just has their own instead of working toghether. They should really keep focusing on making the uninstalling and reinstalling process as smooth as possible. truly.

linux has had desktop environments with fancy GUIs and buttons for a while now and theres also a GUI for the logitech mice called piper also to save yourself a lot of trouble with distro stuff just get bazzite

The worst thing about Linux for me is not the stubbornness in not making it 100% (or close) command prompt free. It's not any incompatibility. No. The worst thing about Linux is the fanboys. Whenever I considered trying Linux (since the late 90s), whenever I ended up sooner or later to ask for help online, some of the most rude, assholes online were always there. Them having the huge idea about themselves because they know the OS better and I have no question about it the main reason they prefer Linux to remain noob unfriendly is so that they feel better about their "superiority". Of course by keeping the other 95% away from Linux, Linux doesn't get all the helpful input and changes it could get by all the other people. But who cares about that when you can feel superior about your OS? Well, at least they are not Apple fanboys. Though mostly because they don't have the money or they are cheap.

Well…I understand that this video is exaggerated on purpose…but the most things said about Linux in the video are simple not true nowadays…this video is ok like 10 years ago…for example to configure a Logitech mouse there is the app solaar in Linux that is very easy, it doesn’t need a terminal. Anyway it was funny 🙂

A lot of the information in this video is just flat out wrong. If you're using certain Linux distributions like Linux Mint or Elementor OS, there are graphical options and the terminal is not necessary. Also, a lot more software is becoming either compatible with Linux or runnable in Linux via applications like wine or proton. Those are the two primary things which you've severely missed out on or messed up upon.

LOL, a fresh Linuxer here, learning my ways around it, I have Win11 on USB, with Linux on hard drive of the laptop. And when the Win10 on my main pc loses support, it will follow the fate of the laptop. With LMDE or Mint in general, it isn't as difficult as it used to be with Linux. And believe or not, I love terminal. I rely on AI to help me figuring things out, but hopefully that won't be forever. It is just the teething issues I need to figure out as a novice. Once set up and running, I shouldn't need much of it. Just don't be super comfortable on the security side, the vulnerabilities are everywhere. Just learned about some in relation to printers and some settings that allow exploiters to invade your system if not configured right. The community should issue regular updates to patch up the system, so sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade are my regular commands I use every time I turn the machine on, not waiting for the little shield with a dot to tell me updates are available.
