Judging from the comments, though, I think that "looking poor," while a catchy phrase here, might actually be better served as "looking unassuming" (as you said in the video)! People obviously change how they look based on their personal preferences and the context of their situation, right? I'm a freelance copywriter based in Japan, where suits, etc. are not so much a mark of wealth as they are part of the workday uniform. By wearing jeans and a blazer over t-shirts of varying quality, I'm not so much "looking poor" as distinguishing myself from the corporate system. And while I'm fine with THAT being low-key, especially because it's hard to actually write in a suit, there are some appearance-related things I'll definitely spend money on! My shoes for meetings in Tokyo, etc. should be immaculate. Also, I'm a just-turned-48-year-old man in an industry that prioritizes youth and creativity, so I'm definitely spending money on exercise, haircut, and skincare. Doing all that and not broadcasting it from the rooftops is your point, and one very well made.

I am also around your age. I have a net worth of 6 million. I stopped saving so much money once I hit 3 million net worth. Please live your life a little, tomorrow is never promised. I am still able to save 200k a year and still drive a nice car and eat out every weekend.
@Nakkisampyla Yes. To me, I get joy from working hard and gathering wealth. It feels like I am playing a game and trying to get the highest score possible. I do spend probably about 100-130k a year, so more than normal people but we do make over half million and I hate spending money on useless things.
Usually neglect branding or flashy jewelry. Similarly to you I bought the Red Wing boots, custom glock/light/holster (concealed) and churn the top tier credit cards for points and can tip more than needed.
I went through a phase with the fancy foreign car, executive home with the pool, nice clothes, hanging at trendy restaurants/bars, etc. At that point in my life I met some of the shallowest, most egotistical and narcissistic people I've ever known. It's far better to live modestly and save those extra funds for future security.
In defense of Tae’s Ralph Lauren polo shirt, he literally wears the same outfit everyday. I believe he said something about having multiple of the same thing gets rid of decision fatigue.
I like to read biographies, and lately I have read quite a few about Hollywood stars. In spite of their fame, success, good looks, wealth, and popularity, they are some of the most miserable people ever, often plagued by low self esteem, doubt, fear. Most end up with alcohol and/or drug problems.
Ralph Lauren is affordable from a certain point of view. Its always in style and can pimp that navy for years. I imagine the shirt was on sale.We all "splurge" on whats important for happiness :)
@@johnrodriguez2013 Yeah I was being a bit facetious there tbf, I got myself a Ralph Lauren polo off Vinted (clothes re-sale app) recently and it's in great condition but about 80% cheaper than retail price so on sale/sites like Vinted are also great!
Building wealth requires a college degree and buying a house. Follow the buy, rehab, rent, repeat. That’s how my family built millions in real estate. We bought our house back in the early 80s in San Jose and we went to excellent schools and universities and my family took a risk buying house during a downturn. Basically, overtime, from 1997-2006 was a housing crash. People like us bought houses at that time. Then from 2013-2020 housing boom. And people like us made a fortune from renting out houses to people. Shelter is a need. And it is in short supply.

The people who are supposedly offended by rich people looking poor are also offended when rich people look rich by wearing fancy clothes, driving supercars, and doing rich people things. It would seem like they are the kind of people who are perpetually offended by absolutely everything and everyone.
@@user-kpkxgtj Rich people looking rich doesn't offend anyone because they stay true to themselves. Same thing with poor people looking poor. But when people FAKE being rich or poor is where the problem starts, because it doesn't represent who they really are.

Comment sections are full of such resentful and perpetually offended types, there's likely at least one such person in these very comments right now.
@@user-kpkxgtj Are you talking about yourself? Are you offended? If rich people didn't exist, we would all be middle and poor class only. We would all struggle to pay bills, food, support family, etc.. If I am struggling financially, I would look for a job, but if that job doesn't provide the income and freedom that I need, then I would consider becoming an entrepreneur or business owner or investor or something. And my "looks" would reflect that because I want to stay true to myself.

I disagree with looking poor. I need to dress nice to impress when I travel for work or even going to get groceries. Nobody would take me serious if I looked like a bum.
MONEY - You can't take it with you when your time is up... Life goes by quick. Here today and gone tomorrow like a vapor. Money is a tool... Use it to bring glory to God. no matter how much you make, it'll NEVER be enough. Invest in what is the greatest asset of all.... You soul after this short life. Believe in Jesus Christ and get some skin in the real game.
If you have a negative net worth then you shouldn't buy expensive clothes to pretend like you're rich. That is simply not financially responsible. You should save and invest your money instead. Then when you have a six figure financial net worth or higher, it won't be a problem to wear a $100 Polo instead of a $10 Polo. At this point, you can wear what you want. If you don't want to shave, get a hair cut, or wear clean properly fitting clothes, that's up to you, but don't dress like a bum just because of a RU-vid video.
At 55 & 62, married, we liive very well on 2k NET per month in an off-grid Calif cabin bought for 88k. Spent 50k remodeling. Our expenses: $1500 a month. I work Wed- Fri, two 18 hr shifts per wk for min wage yet paid to sleep 7-8 hrs a night. Hubby's jobs are: ✶ Grows fruit & vegetables. Milks the goat, cares for the hens, rabbits & ducks ✶ Gathers food bank expired food that can't be distributed+what recipients discard. Makes batches of tasty farmers cheese+ Omelettes for church meals ministry & ourselves. Old Organic veges from food bank go into our compost pile for the animals to feed on. ✶ Constructed a DIY Solar system which powers our car, home & bicycles 60% of the year. We E-Bike many places, weather permitting ✶ Developed a seep into a spring. The spring feeds into our house & fish pond. Now water is free! ✶ He does all our home maintenance spending little $ on home repairs, he's very creative & innovative ✶ He makes his home-made dog food out of discarded food bank mystery meat, crawdads we catch in summer, turkeys we buy in bulk around Thanksgiving & sometimes food bank meat (often it's pulled pork) & some expired eggs. We buy red meat organ meats to add, grow fruits & veges so our dogs food is Vet Approved. Fido is very healthy ✶ We have 8 Fixed Monthly Expenses: $85 prop tax, $125 WIFI/phone, $175 Transport (towing, gas, tires, tags) $150 Donation, $165 Pets, $100 Medical/Dental, Groceries cost about $550, Misc $150 = $1500 a month Fixed Expenses. ✶ For transparency sake, we get $23 a month in Food stamps. Also Medicaid would cover the first 4k deductible of our health/dental plans thru my employer so no out of pocket expenses, ever (except the $100 monthly premium). No debt. 55k IRA. I'll work until age 65
