Why Lori Grimes Was Massively Hated In The Walking Dead - TWD Universe 

I’d like her more if she didn’t cause plot points and issues for the group out of her stupidity. The fact that she took a car and went off on her own while pregnant and flips the car on an empty road sums her up perfectly.

reasons i hate lori: 1) she was a terrible wife before the outbreak and even hinted that she would purposely push Ricks buttons just to try and prove a point (point being that he never raises his voice at her) 2) she hooked up with his best friend right after the outbreak and the show even hints her getting morning sickness in the same episode Rick returns, if not the one before that 3) she told shane to stay away from her, yet made every effort to talk to him after he listened, causing him to be physically and mentally unable to get over her 4) when rick came back, she told the group that he’d be taking daryl to find merle, only to get upset about him doing what she told him to right afterwards 5) again lori getting mad at rick for doing something she told him to: she tells rick that shane is dangerous and wants to steal his family, and then gets mad when the dangerous shane tries to kill him, forcing him to defend himself 6) just the way she treated rick like he was a rabid animal after he killed shane even though she’s the one who caused it and pretty much told him to 7) she was a terrible mother and would blame others for things that happened to carl whether it was under her supervision or was something they couldn’t stop/control 8) just because rick came back doesn’t mean she should’ve cut the tie between shane and carl. it’s confusing on a kid and her own fault they developed such a close relationship in the first place 9) when rick came back she didn’t have to cheat on him.. she just had to turn them against each other and wait out and stay with whoever wins (which is what she did) 10) she had like zero reaction to finding out her husband was shot and in the hospital, and when rick finally returned she tried stopping carl from running to hug his father 11) how much power and authority she decided to have when knowing she had a tight grip on the leader of the group.. both of them 12) who tf looks at a huge map that covers their entire window while driving 😐

I’ve hated lori for one reason. In season one episode 3 when they told Daryl about Merle she insinuated to Rick to go save Merle. Then not even 5 minutes later she’s siding with Shane to leave Merle and not leave camp😤. Such a bad written character

Ummm Rick told Shane he knew something happened between him & Lori. That when he figured it out (& he figured it out pretty quickly) that he wanted to break Shane’s jaw, let him choke on his own teeth. But basically he let it ride until Shane came unglued and came for him. So they weren’t fooling Rick because he already knew. He loved and was willing to forgive them both and kept it to himself.

My big thing was how she got mad at Rick when he told her about him killing Shane, and Carl putting him down. She told him that Shane was dangerous and then got mad at him for taking action. Other than that I didn’t mind her character at all

Not only did she sleep with her husbands best friend, but she kept telling rick that Shane was getting out of hand and that she was scared of him while also telling Shane the same thing about Rick, plus she kept telling shane to not leave the group when he wanted to leave because of her. She had planed for that whole thing to happen and knew that one of them was going to kill the other but was somehow shocked and was angry when she found out that rick killed Shane. And I know that lori thought that her husband was dead, but it didn't take her long to jump onto Shane's dick and act like that she was in love with him. Lori also had a queen bee attitude that got annoying. Her whole personality was annoying. That's why she was hated so much.

this woman. She says she wants to stay away from Shane, even tells him to do so and does the opposite. Goes and talks to him any chance she gets. Shane tries to stay away but she always ends up talking to him. How will he get over her? -_- She is the cause of his death. Shane dies and she gets mad after telling Rick he is dangerous. Character sucks.

I still don't really understand why Lori got pissed off at Rick, because Carl shot zombie Shane. lol I really wish they had given Rick more dialogue in that scene and have him defend himself against her anger. lol All Rick had to say to her was "Why was Carl out in that field in the first place? I left him with you, Lori. In the protection of the farm house, and you didn't watch him and he ended up in that field and ultimately, his gun shot drew in hundreds of walkers which over-ran the farm." If we want to take a "technicality" approach, Lori failed to watch her son again, which resulted in him shooting a gun and having the farm swarmed with zombies. There is a good argument to be made that Lori was mostly at fault for all of this, including the reason why Shane was trying to kill Rick in the first place. lol But instead, she's in a rage that Rick "allowed" her son to shoot a zombie Shane. Everything was and is basically her fault. lol

Lori and Andrea always did things they didn't need to do that compromised the group. Lori didn't need to try to send Daryl after Rick and Glenn. And Lori didn't need to die. She had no reason to try to give birth in the prison during a breach. Andrea was told not to fire the rifle and she hits Daryl. Andrea could have took out the Governor several times but instead she tried to act conflicted

She only waited 1 month after rick died before sleeping with his best friend

Lori was an integral part of Rick and the Walking Dead's development. She created a dilemma for Rick, making the show more interesting. Without Lori the show would have been less interesting in the first 2 series

Besides everything you said, she was just not a likable person all around. She has no skills and depended on others to save her ass all the time. She was pushy pushy and created conflicts everywhere by assigning herself as head of the women and assign them gender role chores. Don’t forget she gets everyone to run around doing her little bidding and all her errands. Half the time she was angry and you don’t even know why she was angry. She was just a trouble maker all around and yes, she was annoying as heck.

Remember from the start of the outbreak to the start of season one was just 83 days. It shouldn't take someone 83 after their love one death to bang their best friend. Plus before everything she was going to leave Rick because he didn't like to fight with her. She wanted him to start fighting and yelling something to make some shii to start between them.

Lori was super sneaky With the game she was playing with Rick and Shane even if she thought rick was dead thats still shady as hell to sleep with your husband's friend. She never backed rick up like she did Shane she didn't seem happy rick was back from the dead there was no warmth she had towards him until rick found the prison but by then it was too late rick resented her as much as he loved her by that point. Nothing likeable about her... I think she hated that early Rick was indecisive about his decisions for the group and was attracted by Shane's assertiveness with his decisions for the group and she admitted that she knew she drove a wedge between the two ...its like she wished that Rick never came back just like Shane wished.

Lets not forget literally in the first min of the show rick talks to shane about lori and we can already tell she was a bad wife to rick even before the outbreak

Now Lori may have done some questionable things, but Once Lori saw that Rick was alive, she did not cheat with Shane.

Guys I think Lori and Shane go way back before the apocalypse even started. During their first “scene” together in the woods you can see that Lori has a little bird tattooed on her waist and Shane has a “lil Bird” tattoo on his chest. It could symbolise his feelings for Lori bcs it’s on the left side where the heart sits.

Tried to rewatch the Walking Dead, and she is the first frustratingly bad character on the show to the point that I felt the need to comment about it. She wasn't that bad at first, outside of sleeping with her husband's best friend a week after finding out about her husband's death. Those first 2 seasons, she was nagging but still relatable. But at the end of season 2, they assassinated her character starting from episode 8 or 9. She finally reveals to Rick what happened (along with her being pregnant). Then an episode later, when Rick doesn't get angry, she starts saying how big of a threat Shane is to her and everyone is camp. She gives the "You'd kill the living to protect what's yours? Well Shane thinks I'm his" line at the end of episode 9. In the next episode or two, Rick and Shane work things out when Rick goes back to save Shane from the Walkers. Lori sees that Rick isn't going to fight Shane, so she goes to Shane to get him to fight Rick. A quarter of the way into ep 12 and starts saying "You remember that night.. I don't know who's baby this is, I can't imagine how hard it is on you.. whatever happened between us, whatever we thought it was, and not just you.." clearly manipulating a guy she knows is mentally unstable. And then when she finds out that Rick won, it becomes obvious she wanted Shane to win. In the season finale, towards the end of the episode Rick reveals that Shane didn't die to walkers, but that Rick killed him. You can see that Lori is so outraged, that she isn't even listening to Rick tell the rest of the story. She stops responding to what he's saying and is just lost in her own thoughts with pain and anger washing over her face. And when he reveals Carl shot him when he turned, she explodes in a rage. The first few episodes she has left in season 3, Rick is rightfully acting distant towards her. He realized what her motivations were all along. The funny part is, Robert Kirkman, the original writer of the comic went on to say it was "surprising and disheartening" the viewers response to Lori and that it says something about "how female characters interact with male characters. - vulture. com/2013/10/walking-dead-tough-questions-for-robert-kirkman It only shows how bad the writing was during that 2nd season of the show, if there's that much of a disconnect between writer and audience. All the female characters were either written as being ridiculously suicidal/hysterical, or as wanted to sleep with the first man they came across (like Maggie immediately jumping on Glenn and demanding he put his loyalties toward her instead of his group). It was so bad during the end of season 2 that I had to stop watching the show and started to look online for other people who noticed the same things. I didn't remember it being that bad when I first watched the show as it originally aired.

I actually defended her a little bit back in the day simply because I felt she was just a mother trying to protect her son and that was her main priority which I think most can relate to. I can't excuse her manipulation and gas lighting but she wasn't the worst person ever By any means

The shows very first scene of Rick, and Shane talking in the cruiser already expressed how abusive, and manipulative Lori was to Rick. I knew from that moment to watch out for her.

I disagree with the statement that Lori “cheated” on Rick. Its til death do you part. Shane told her Rick was dead and she believed him. So she didn’t technically “cheat” and once she found out Rick was alive she never touched Shane again. My issue with Lori was her whispering to Rick how dangerous Shane was and that he needed to be dealt with… then when Rick is forced to kill Shane in self defense she gets angry with him. Like huh?! Also she should have let Shane go about his business when he first wanted to leave the group. It would have been best for everyone if Shane had left but she basically guilted him into staying then told him she had feelings for him which completely sent him over the edge and that’s when Shane lost his mind. That’s why I disliked Lori.

My friend is showing TWD to me for the first time and Lori was my favorite character up until she died. I had no idea she was hated until I saw this video 😂

If I had to leave my child in anyone’s care, it would be in Dale’s or Carol’s, and this is who Lori consistently chose. They were two of the most caring, reliable people in the camp, aside from Glenn. No, she did not keep a close enough eye on her child. I am a bit of a helicopter parent, and if a zombie apocalypse was reality, there’s NO WAY IN HELL I’d let my kids out of my sight, lol. Especially not so I could sneak off and hook up with someone!! 🤣 Lori made some poor decisions, to be sure, but I do not hate her. She is not my favorite character either, but I can understand why some people don’t like her. I think the very worst thing about Lori is how POORLY her character was written, and that’s a shame. The writers make her look wishy washy and like she is leading Shane on (which, upon careful rewatching, doesn’t look like that to me at all). She does kind of act like the Queen Bee and she obviously takes what she has for granted, as Andrea points out. I’m also very confused as to why SO MANY viewers think there was any consensual sexual contact between Lori and Shane after they realized Rick was alive. The only thing inappropriate that happened between the two of them after Rick found his family, was at the rec room at the CDC, when Shane tried to force himself on Lori, and she had to fight him off. So that is all on him. Not on her at all. Shane told her Rick was dead, and she thoroughly believed it, so that wasn’t cheating. But Shane was obviously not 100% sure Rick was dead. If he was, why would he have blocked the door outside of Rick’s hospital room with a gurney to keep walkers out?? Why didn’t he tell her he wasn’t sure Rick was dead? That was definitely manipulation on Shane’s part. He should have been honest with Lori, full stop. They were regularly doing runs, so why didn’t he ever go check on Rick again after that last time, just to be sure? Rick was like his BROTHER. I agree that Shane was interested in Lori from the beginning of the show. The pilot opens with Shane asking about the state of their marriage. Lori was not upset with Rick over him having to kill Shane (as you said, she told him he was going to have to do it). She was pissed off that Carl had to put Walker Shane down, which forced him to have to grow up very quickly. People always talk about Lori cheating on Rick with Shane, not knowing he was still alive, but one thing they CONVENIENTLY FORGET is how Rick broke up Pete and Jessie’s marriage when he got to Alexandria. Yes, Carol told Rick he would have to kill Pete, but Rick swooped in on a vulnerable, abused woman and worked his way in, and then killed her husband to get to her. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dude you got so many facts wrong. She wasn't my favorite but how can you say she cheated on Rick when she thought he was dead? Shane shaved his head so the bald spot wouldn't be noticeable from when Otis pulled a chunk of his hair out when he left him behind on the run and how can you say she barely knew Carol? Did you see how she would comfort her and how close Carl and Sophia were? You don't know how long those people were together at that camp so how can you say she was a bad mother for leaving Carl with just anyone? Also as I recall she told Rick the baby could biologically be Shane's but no matter what Rick would be the father and there was no evidence her and Shane had a thing for each other before things all started.

If you rewatch S2 Lori may be the worst character next to Joffrey. She was literally insufferable all season 2. She walked around like she really was Queen B. It was terrible

I will admit by Season 3 I had a feeling she was going to be better. I mean she did admit she was a shitty wife and a bad mother to Rick. I was going to think she was going to seek redemption but then she was died, rather in a very sad way. Her telling Carl he’s the best thing that’s ever happened and knowing he will forever be strong hit me hard.

Dude you mixed up so many things here and I'm glad people in the comments noticed that. She didn't cheat on Rick, he was "dead" and Shane was always there for her and Carl, of course they ended up together. The worst thing was of course what you mentioned - how she turned her back on Shane after Rick came back and didn't even talk to him. She was annoying to the audience because she always acted like she knew everything the best and told others what to do while she wasn't doing anything at all. She manipulated Rick and Shane. She was the reason why Shane ended up dead and he as a character had a great potential and fans were sure him and Rick would've stayed friends if she wasn't around. But also, not so much because we weren't so keen on Shane after we saw him trying to SA her in CDC. so Shane wasn't such a fan favorite from the start. I agree with that she always let Carl run around in the damn zombie apocalypse, unsupervised and let strangers look after him. On the highway and in the camp. She also ignored facts a lot of the time by simply saying she doesn't "feel" good about things. She might've killed two walkers after the accident but she also went alone without anyone knowing, caused an accident, almost orphaned her son without thinking that even if she found Rick, she couldn't save him, she'd just add up to the problem. When the herd was approaching the farm she also didn't even realize Carl left and started to yell for him causing more walkers to turn towards the house. And Shane shaved his head so others wouldn't see the bald spot Otis left on his head.

The only character worse than her is Andrea and that psycho kid who’s name I forgot.

You missed evey point. I and many others hate Lori because after finding out rick was indeed alive, she acts like it was entirely Shane's fault that they got together. And after Shane does attempt to distance himself from Lori and Carl (she does this 3 times) Lori will basically do something to convince him to stay around which made his obsession grow to the point of wanting to kill rick. Lori also tells rick outright that shane is dangerous and is shocked and disgusted when rick tells her that he killed shane, After shane tried to kill him mind you. And Lori will constantly go against her own word just to have a problem with someone. If rick didnt go back to help Merle she would have treated him like he was heartless, but when he did, it was his fault they were attacked and either way, he wasnt going to win.

I gave her a wide berth because I liked Prison Break so much but, it was a struggle nonetheless :/

I am watching TWD for the first time I am on S2 and I wish Lori was un-alived in S1.

In the comic she never second guessed the situation once Rick was back and Shane died very differently and a lot earlier. She was likable right up until her death. And her death in the comic was a brutal moment and those who know why, know why. lol TWD is one of those shows that I really wish they just did a 1:1 of the comic. I still enjoyed the show enough all the way to the end, even tho the Negan Sanctuary seasons were rough to get through, but if it was true to the source material I don't think it would have ever fallen off as hard as it did. I hate that show and movie writers always feel the need to change things because its rarely ever for the better.

Okay she may not have been written all too well but she did not cheat on Rick everyone thought he was dead she just moved on with Shane there’s nothing wrong with that when your think your husband is dead. When Rick came back yea she still had mixed feelings for Shane who wouldn’t you’ve fallen in love with another man remember she moved on but eventually went back to Rick. She tried to keep the peace between Rick and Shane knowing both loved her deeply.

Lori did not cheat on Rick.🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️She thought he was dead, and as a way to cope she moved on romantically and sexually. The audience sees her as a cheater because its from Rick’s POV.

you know what, she's not the WORST character in twd. i kinda get why she got with shane (not shane tho, he obviously wanted lori before rick was left in the hospital) as he was the only guy she could relate her grief with and that obviously led to the cheating, still bad tho but justified somewhat. however the way she treats rick and second guesses everything while only backing him up to spite shane is gross, manipulative behaviour.

First I'd like to say the walking dead novel is way better then the show and having read it prior to watching the show I was pretty sad at all the character assassination going on, Lori was actually a very good character she had her faults with the shane issue and trying to hide it from rick but she wasn't this dumb ass neglectful mother and overall waste of air character and when she and Judith died (yes Judith got retconned into the show) it was sad, Lori and rick had fixed thier marriage and they were in a good place. But the tv series depiction of lori is just I dont know how else to say it but character assassination they painted her as a dumb, emotionally volatile and borderline narcissistic woman who tried to hold on to two men while putting them at odds with each other so much so that she had to know one of them was going to end up killing the other. In the novel she didn't do this when rick came back she cut shane off romantically and she tried to be cordial with him for the sake of the group nothing more.

I would say she definitely was a bad mother. Season 2 most of the time she can't even keep her son at one place. Or atleast know where he is.

Umm most everything you said about Lori was WRONG! Lori didn’t cheat on Rick, She thought Rick was dead and she was a single woman at the time of his “death”, So no it’s not cheating. Lori loved Rick. Also Lori was not a bad mother at all, She loved Carl with all her heart. Carl NEVER listened to Lori when she would tell him to stay somewhere or do something. I’m a huge Lori fan and defender. And I will defer her til the day I die. Shane was the annoying one, He literally was the worst. He always started drama and caused trouble, He also always tried to manipulate people including Lori herself. I just don’t understand the hate Lori gets, Yes she made a mistake but in the end she tried sooo hard to make up for that mistake and let’s not forget she gave her life for her unborn baby she NEVER got to meet. So that was a heroic thing to do. I love Lori and loved her from beginning to end of her story. Sarah Wayne Callies was phenomenal as Lori and it’s so sad that so many people clearly didn’t understand or pay attention to her character. It really shows when people hate on her, Clearly they didn’t understand her point of view on things. Like it or not Lori is apart of The Walking Dead story and if haters really hate her so much they don’t have to watch her seasons she’s in. But I am and always will be on team Lori.
