One thing that op did not include is that Yoda hoped that Luke would kill the emperor and Vader, but Luke refused, Yoda shows his biggest flaw, the old Jedi way biggest flaw, which is to cave in to battle, Yoda wants Luke to be the hero, because that's his destiny, but the destiny of the hero leads to the darkside, On the scene with the emperor, Luke refuses his destiny as a hero, He is not the hero, he is a Jedi, and his role is a redeemer for Vader, so that the darkside can destroy itself like always

@@anime_world6684 the path of heroism is the same path that Anakin took, and it lead him to the darkside, you may twist the word hero how much you want and it starts to lose meaning, because the hero traditionally is the one that defeats the villain, Luke doesn't defeat the villain, Vader does, Luke is just the redeemer for Vader, and the way he does this reminds a lot of traditional Catholic views of Jesus Christ and pacifism, but heroes are not pacifists, and heroes are not Jedis, Jedis can't be heroes because if they take the path of heroism they walk the same path as Anakin did, that's why I don't like the use of the word hero to convey Luke even though by today standards he's kind of a "hero" he's not a hero by the traditional sense, know what I mean
Not just the son of his sister and best friend, but also his *student*, who he was PLEDGED to mentor and protect, a vow most sensei would NEVER violate...esp regarding a child they had practically raised and who had never actually done any wrong, while they were asleep and vulnerable. And just what was he gonna tell Han and Leia after he went through with it?? "Sorry about your kid, but he was having bad dreams, so, I clearly had no choice but to take him out!"
Rian Johnson simply hated Star Wars. There's no other explanation. That is, he hated what it actually was, even though he may have loved his own very faulty interpretation of it.
Rian Johnson never intended to make a decent Star Wars movie. It's clear from the milking scene, Leia flying through space and Luke throwing the lightsaber over his shoulder that Johnson just wanted to piss all over the Star Wars franchise.
Well-said! I remember noticing the significance of Luke's clothes years ago, glad to see that understanding spread...Love your channel, keep up the great work! The only thing I would add is that Luke's discarding his lightsaber was NOT a statement of "pacifism", as I see it. He had tried everything to get through to his father and nothing had worked, so he played the ultimate gambit of risking his very life, by exposing himself to the Emperor's evil directly. Luke bet his life that his father could not, WOULD not, stand by as his son was being killed right in front of him...and his gamble paid off! At least, that's how I see it.
Luke Skywalker have the best character development throughout the story Till Disney came around and said: "Nope" Then proceeded to yeet out Luke entire character development out of the window.
And then they redid Luke's entire character arc in TLJ, which already happened. "Luke Skywalker is not a Jedi, and he succumbs to his emotions after a revelation (Kylo's dark side/Vader being his father), and loses himself. Then he later comes back, learns from Yoda, learns what a true Jedi is, goes into the final encounter only to not actually fight (against Kylo/throwing away Saber in ROTJ), becoming a true Jedi in the process and saving his friends. Literally the same arc but with extra steps lmao. Sequels are garbage.
This was awesome! I always thought it was cool that Luke got closer to the Dark-side! The final fight between Vader and Luke always makes me tear up a little.
Can you believe that that iconic music *wasn't* on the original soundtrack release?? Fans had to wait YEARS for that to actually come out, for some reason!
Just because you can eliminate the darkness doesn't always mean you should. I love the way Luke refuse to kill Vader even after all the terrible things Vader had done.
The scene is a battle between the emperor and Luke. This is a battle of predicting the future using the force. The emperor sees the rebel alliance falling in his trap. Luke either turning or dying. Luke sees his father returning to the light side (Yoda, Sidious, Obi Wan all thought this prediction was absurd). Luke learns that the rebels have fallen into a trap on Endor. The only way to save his sister is to join the dark side. Luke goes into a rage and defeats Vader. The emperor is very pleased. He thinks he won the battle vs Luke. Everything he has seen and manipulated has happened since episode 1. Luke trusts his sight. He didnt see himself killing Vader or Sidious. He saw the deathstar explode and his father returning to the light. And if he is wrong then he will die before joining the dark side ro save his sister and friends. There is no doubt or surrender left. The emperor see now Luke can never be turned. Proceeds to kill him. Luke then defeats Sidious at what he was best at as Lukes vision comes true (deathstar is destroyed and Anakin returns to the light side).
I absolutely LOVE Luke Skywalker. I really hope Dave gives him a significant role in his new movie. That way fans who didn’t enjoy the sequels get a proper send off to their hero. Fans of the sequels still get their cake. Dave has the potential to let those who didn’t enjoy the sequels have one last moment with their childhood hero. He can leave the ending of Luke’s Journey ambiguous, that way it’s never fully clear when the story transitions into the sequels. That’s the perfect way to adhere to both sides of the fandom.
Isn't David filoni's movie based on the legends story "heir to the empire"?? If filoni stays true to the story.., then Luke Skywalker is the main hero in the story..,
@@srinivasaraokotteda1668 Unless Disney gets over their crippling fear of recasting characters (which apparently came about because of the bombing of Solo; Disney doesn't want to admit the REAL reasons for that, so they latched onto "fans must not like seeing classic characters recast, that's it!"), I think we can't count on that, tho MAYBE he'd get a walk on scene or two, like in the Mandolorian. And I think we're just going to have to be realistic and accept that Disney's canon story will now hang over everything we grew up loving for the time being (meaning the rest of our natural lives)...
Luke Skywalker’s journey in the original trilogy is one of the greatest, if not greatest journeys ever put to film. His arc as a farm boy on Tatooine, wanting to leave home and do something more with his life to becoming a Jedi Knight who redeems his father and helps save the galaxy is always fantastic to watch unfold from beginning to end. Amazing video man. I'm glad this randomly appeared in my recommended. I haven't watched the og trilogy ever since I was a lot younger so I never picked up on the symbolism. You made me appreciate his character a lot more.
What makes Luke special to me is here’s a kid who learns about the force at 19 and in such a short time and and training becomes a bad ass able to confront the two Sith left alone. Luke’s the man. What Disney did to him is unforgivable. Save for Mandolorian season 2 finale..
this is so well done. and this is part of something i have talked about that highly seperate all six lucas movies vs. the sequels. the use of colors and color schmes and setting that are all symbolizing things, not just to look like something.
In my opinion.., luke Skywalker is the jedi anakin Skywalker is always meant to become at the end of revenge of the sith.., and also luke Skywalker is the full realisation of Anakin Skywalker's potential.., That is why i love the characters of the Skywalker family.., (excluding rey not a Skywalker lol😂😂)
Wow, it’s the little things I missed as a child when the first 3 films released, that make so much more sense now. Reading the books, and seeing the prequels, then seeing things or phrases repeat themselves is simply an intricacy that many learned Star Wars nerds have grown to appreciate, and others missed.
Retney, yoy never cease to deliver EXCELLENT content. This post was fantastic. I've gained an even deeper appreciation for the OT because of stuff like this. I was confused for a long time about exactly what Luke was throughout ROTJ. He was still a Padawan until he defeated Vader, hence becoming a full Jedi Knight. I guess his message to Jabba was strictly an intimidation tactic in calling himself a Jedi Knight.
It also proves the paranoia of the old jedi order was largely unfounded regarding the age of training a jedi. Even men already into adulthood can learn discipline
@@SpFlash1523 Only for an instant when the Emperor caught him by surprise. When Yoda was ready for it he had no problem handling the Emperor's lightning.
@@YouthFreedomFighters If the novelization is still canon, Luke's thoughts at the time are that he's never even HEARD of this perversion of the Force, and I think he's wondering if Yoda knew about it but didn't warn him...Cause, yeah, why not, Yoda?? Still, he DOES manage to Force shield himself, for about a few seconds, but the lightning is too strong for him. Canon or not, it's probably fair to say that young Skywalker still isn't up to that level of Force mastery yet, but probably is by the time of the Mando...
@@HandofOmega As you point out, in the novel Luke is able to defend against the lightning for a little while. During that time he could've Force snatched his lightsaber and used that to defend against the lightning. Lightsabers are good for defending against Force Lightning as Obi Wan is able to use a lightsaber to stop a lightning attack from Count Dooku and Mace Windu is even able to send the lightning back at Palpatine with his lightsaber during their fight.
Luke manages everywhere his father failed. -He faced consequences of his acts after his loses against vader and changed in a better way. Anakin didn't face consequence of his acts against Dooku -Luke mournt his adoptive parents death, managed to forgive empire soldier and didn't commit mass murder. -Luke always talk to his friends about his issues...
Interesting analysis, but I would disagree with one thing: when Luke throws away his lightsaber, he is not becoming "a Jedi" as you said, but rather, in my opinion, he is transcending any Jedi. Remember that the Jedi of the past would never throw away their lightsaber in the presence of a Sith. Any Jedi would actually use violence to fight and try to destroy the Sith. That's why Luke, by throwing away his saber, becomes something more than a Jedi, not "a Jedi." In the end, SW shows us that the Jedi are disillusioned, and deep down, hypocrites. They did not understand that acting with love never can end in violence. If you are acting violently, it's because you've already made a mistake without even realizing it.
Man, I'm gonna be honest, i feel a liitle stupid right now. I have been a SW fan all my life, 40+years. 😬😆 And i have never made the connection with the Dooku scene and the Vader scene. This is why Iove your content. 👍
If you asked the real Luke Skywalker he would say something you might expect from Yoda. Jedi and Sith amounts to Us v. Them. There is no us. There are no them. There is only me. Act accordingly.
