I can't express how much I relate to this. I've been in bookstagram for 5 years and I'm burned out. I'm a mood reader and I'll read new releases only if I feel too, otherwise, I don't care and the algorithm hates me for it. I also hate the toxic positivity and as the previous comment said, all the smut. Nothing wrong with them, but when it's practically the only thing that shows up along with famous creators over and over in my FYP. I'm a time travel romance writer and I love posting time travel romance reads, but when seems like no one cares... it's exhausting. I've taken a long break now, so I won't be shocked if it feels like I'm starting anew. Sadly, I don't vibe with tiktok. RU-vid don't really care about me :(

I agree about missing the recent post search option. That to me makes the hashtags almost irrelevant. I've been on bookstagram a long time and it definitely can burn you out. After a long break I came back and am just trying to make connections. If the same 10 or so people comment every day and I comment back that makes me happy getting to know them.

I've been on Bookstagram for 8 years. The first 3 years I wasn't even aware it was called that. My perspective is that I stuck true to why I was there. Find out about books, find like-minded individuals, self-expression, and to have fun. Numbers don't really matter to me. I read whatever I want to read. Whatever genre, format, or authors. I do understand seeing the same 10-20 popular books is massively boring. I love taking time off from it. I took a 2 week vacation with family last summer and brought two books. I was completely away from the internet. It felt good. I felt so peaceful. In my 8 years, I'm just now at 1k wonderful followers and find smaller accounts are more tight knit. Therefore have more engagement. It's the same people. Occasionally, a new person comes along. I like that. Another potential friend. Someone who might enjoy talking about books.
Too much smut content. Nothing wrong with smut, but I just got bored of the amount of smut scenarios that instagram posts. Most of those books that are promoted on instagram, have smut.They contain no plot (other than smut),and that kind of bores me. There's no more showcasing good books that the reviewer genuinely liked..., you know, like actually walking to a bookstore, picking up a book by judging the cover or title, reading it and reviewing it honestly. Like you mentioned, I'm tired of seeing Sarah.J.Maas's books being mentioned over and over again (t=they’re good books but.....).That's why I've left. Now, instead of Bookstagram, I just buy a random book, or a book recommend by my friends, read it and then post an honest review on goodreads, where negative and positive remarks are appreciated.
