Melody was a hidden gem honestly. She didn’t have the experience or training Nicole had, but she made up for it with a lot of raw talent. Buttons was one example. She absolutely murdered the adlibs in that song, and even tho we didn’t hear much more of her, she shined when we did.

I support Melody's decision. Because she had been through a lot, needed a therapy and all, so she definitely DOES NOT deserve to be treated like a glorified backup dancer ever again. All the best to you Melody!
Honestly the other girls should be singing too. Thats why the PCD ultimately failed, we dont have any connection to most of the girls and it feels weird.

After watching the newest live performance, it's all nicole with background singers. And half the live performance it was lip syncing. I do understand that they had alot of dancing, but I'm there at a show to hear you live, not a cd
The way this group was structured has always been wrog to the very beginning. Someone created the PD around Nichole, that's all. She had the right people in the right places who made things this way; they were all very talented each one her own way, Melody had a great voice as well but it's was all about Nichole. Maybe, she had a more striking beauty than the others (which all were so good looking) but not now..now she has a plastic like face, WTF did she do with all the Botox and fillers..she looks a super tightened lizard plus her skin tone is much lighter - I am white (northern Italy) and I will never understand why on earth someone wants to change is own skin tone...we are the way we are and we should be proud of that, if your are born with a caramel skin tone why do you want to bleach it?? Nonsense. Anyway, I'm sure there was a lot of dissatisfaction around and it's a pity. I suppose the Spice Girls (who have marked and era of pop culture for sure) were more balanced with their roles and image because they were structured with a role since the very beginning and they all use to sing (Victoria less..but she was more about her image and it was ok with that)...of course they had their all little dramas but not even close to the Pussycat Dolls's one. Here they really had big drama all along. Glad Melody has found her path and is happier and satisfied.
They’re back together because Nicole’s solo career wasn’t as successful as when she was in the PCD. On a side note, Nicole is a successful tv judge but as a singer her biggest success was in the PCD.

They were "EVERYTHING" all right ... EVERYTHING you'd expect to hear in a musical nightmare. She sounded like straight-up shit. They were screechy, off-key, and messy as hell whenever she tried to replicate them live. No wonder she was Nicole's backup singer. Whichever parent had the initial idea to call that thing "Melody" truly had one twisted-ass, perverse sense of humor.

She tried to do that at the AMAs, but she sounded like a hot mess. The problem was, she thought she was a Whitney or a Christina, but she was really more of a Mya or Ashanti pushing her little voice to the very brink of its capabilities.

Me neither but it's true, she struggled so much when they did live performances. She was always messing up in the choreography and had to practice more than the other girls. They mentioned that alot. Poor melody. She deserves to be heard.

I think there's a deeper reason Melody isn't returning. For starters, she's the youngest and joined the group as a teenager so she had to deal with being the baby of the group. Also she lost her identity because she was moulded into something she wasn't. She's a vocalist, not a dancer so imagine not being able to use your strength and only being relegated to a backup dancer, something that isn't even your strongest suit. Once Nicole admitted to doing all the singing on their albums, there was no need for a reunion

Trent Rodgers but the intro performance should have included them all being a lead vocal if they were going to do it right. It only had nicole front and center as usual. Its not happening correctly even now. Melody is right to not want to join.

Melody was my favorite! I was so sad not to see her in the reunion, but seeing all this makes sense. Her mental health is more important than making fans happy. She was hired to counter the poor singing skills of the girls singing background vocals. And yes, her complexion added to the diversity angle management was pushing for their image.
She was put to the back of most music videos, and if she wasn't behind Nicole, she had no camera time. It took ages for me to tell because the camera switched that much, look at Button and see in the dance routine where she is behind and can pretty much only see her head pop behind Nicole' s shoulder
I love your documentaries, Empressive‼❤ It's so in depth and how you support your info with very intricate clips and/or soundbites. It's always brief, but enjoyable to view. Reminds me of "Behind the Music," "Unsung," etc. While I'm happy for the group reuniting because I miss the 90's era of girl groups such as Blaque, Destiny's Child, En Vogue, Spice Girls, Xscape, and so many more. I felt that Ashley and Melody speech was speaking to their adversities behind the scenes. I wish Melody success in all her future endeavors, hoping she finally gets to showcase her vocal range, and sharpen other skillsets that are duller.
Melody was my favorite doll she the reason why I like buttons so much she was singing her ass off...Nicole didn't make it as a solo artist so now she putting the group back together...
I actually didn't realize how versatile Melody's singing was because I just knew her as the girl that had that baby voice in some of the ad-libs. I need to look into her more :)
I remember that somehow I always skipped tracks to hear her parts, mostly in "Beep" as a kid, I was such a big fan of her, something about her stands out even tho she was in shadow 🙂

Melody's advice about the group actually taking time to get to know each other before touring, shows that she is a very smart and thoughtful person ..... too bad Nicole refuses to share the spotlight.

Melody could not dance at all. The camera would always cut away from her going into dance sequences or have her in the back. She wasn’t a good dancer at all but she was beautiful...
That's always how girl bands break up. Currently, Little Mix is the only girl group that is still together. Why? Because they work as a team and don't have a lead singer. That proves my point that lead singers in a band cause problems.

Melody was done hella dirty. I liked Nicole but Melody was in fact my favourite PCDoll. I'm personally disappointed 😔 she ain't coming back but it's a valid reason... and also this is a lesson for future groups
It's astonishing to me how determined their camp was to push Nicole to the front for a solo career, when let's be real, her solo career went nowhere. They did all of that, ruin the dreams of young girls, for nothing. And if you think about it, if the other girls were pushed more, and allowed them to be more organic, they would've had longevity and their solo careers would've went farther.
Honestly I'm glad their back, but Melody needs to come back and she needs to be respected. Nicole got a lot of attention, but the whole group has to have credit
Melody need to stay right where she is. She seem to be in a good space mentally and we all know health is wealth. Her going back in that environment may open up wounds she took years to close. That’s like asking someone to go back to a toxic Ex. I’m proud of Melody for finding her voice and her place in the world. Unless the PCD management are having songs written specifically for Melody to lead, then she don’t need to return.
Nicole and Melody were the ONLY singers in the group. Melody did Adkins and Nicole sung lead. You see Nicole didn’t have the success she did with the group when she went solo right.
I JUMPED when Melody sang opera like that I had no clue her voice was that strong! Good on the girls for not having bad blood with each other. I hope they all succeed in whatever they do next!
@@Lalahk As much as I love Melody, you are right. I perform as a classical singer, and her vocals weren't controlled. Nicole, on the other hand, is a trained classical singer; she really shocked me when she did the Royal Variety.

Kimberly just had a baby and her dancing still perfect, I doubt Melody could keep it up with the other girls who are professional dancers. For their past issues, I can understand why only Nicole sang, she basically did all the album for herself because some of the songs were supposed to be in her solo album but still frustrating for Melody never having a spotlight for showing her true talent. I love Pussycat Dolls, but their concept still weird for me. I wish the other girls could get a few solos, even if it is only a line.
I just do remember that all her ad-libs were one of my favorites to all the PCD songs. And i'm one of those who always awaits her tiny parts and wishing she had longer singing parts....
they were formed as a burlesque troupe and not a girl group, so I think most girls were signed as background girls, being dancers while Nicole did singing and dancing
All the dancers with the exception of Kim left though: EVERYONE else was a singer, but didn't get to sing in PCD even if they sang before Nicole was even in the group. Ashley has said that was particularly unfair: she and Jessica basically had something taken away from them even though they were senior to Nicole within the group.
She probably had it the worse in the group, I remember watching an interview where she talked about constantly being told she could be kicked out of the group. Sad part about it was she was the only member that was black and latina in the group and the one who's talent was constantly suppressed.

Melody can sing and even some of the girls can. The thing is, they get out of tune whenever they sing and dance. Only Nicole can sing with stability while dancing. Try watching their live performances.
A lot of artists use playback especially if the song requires a lot of dancing. Please remember, PCD is no longer in their prime years. They are already in their late 30s & early 40s.
LOL no - Nicole has dance TRAINING, but if you want to see someone give hardcore choreo while still sounding great, that's Carmit. Nicole's lack of professional dance experience means she struggles to dance and sing at the same, which is why it made even less sense for her to sing everything. ALL the dance-heavy songs have loads of backing tracks: Buttons, When I Grow Up, I Don't Need A Man, etc. She can do ballads where you just sit/stand like Stickwitu, and the songs that are easy to sing like Dontcha, but Nicole is no triple threat.
Exactly. That's what it sounds like. She took emotional damage for 5 years while with the group and while living in someone's shadows while she was vocally super talented herself. Kind of reminds me of the DreamGirls plot.

Don't get me wrong Melody can sing, but from a technical stand point Nicole blows her out the water. That being said their label did her dirty and did them a disservice not utilizing the talent of both girls. Major props to Mel for never being salty towards Nicole. That whole group was a mess and they didn't promote individuality with the girls they were definitely a machine for their label to make money and its just an unfortunate truth in that industry.
