Have Companies & The US Government Pay You!
app.silomarkets.com/launch
I’m sure you’re all familiar with Microsoft’s high-profile acquisitions of LinkedIn, GitHub, Skype, and Activision Blizzard. But have you ever heard of Microsoft’s acquisition of Nuance Communications? Nuance Communications is a background healthcare-centric tech company that doesn’t receive all that much press coverage, but they’re massive. In fact, 55% of physicians, 75% of radiologists, and 77% of American hospitals use Nuance solutions. So, by purchasing Nuance, Microsoft immediately became the dominant player within the healthcare industry as well. But, all of this is just stage one for Microsoft with Nuance. Their real long-term goal is to encourage and maximize Azure adoption and usage throughout the healthcare industry which is only now converting to the cloud. This video explains the story of Nuance Communications and why Microsoft spent $20 billion acquiring a no-name company.

I think it's a little disingenuous to call it a "no name" company. A better way to phrase it IMO is "a company not many people know about" since it's more B2B than B2C if their customers are hospitals , radiologists, etc

The speech recognition tech must have been at least a nice bonus for MS if not a direct consideration in the purchase - their speech recognition used to be so far behind the leading 3rd party applications. This explains why it actually works now.

It's hard not to appreciate the new Nadella's Microsoft after watching your videos. After losing the battle in the smartphone world, he didn't give up but took up to rebuild Microsoft by focusing on various different sectors instead of narrowing pursuing their hero products. While its competitors were busy planning on how to lock in customers (Apple or Google), Microsoft became more and more open while becoming a background behemoth out of spotlight. Hope they again become successful in consumer space with Windows 12

Great video. I watched at start because i was intrigued by the reference to Nuance as a no name. At microsoft we shipped dragon nuance speech in automotive products across clarion autopc, ford sync, etc. dozens of car makers. Unlike new speech engines, nuance can run in tiny memory footprints ideal for older devices with limited memory. So its not like microsoft was oblivious to nuance before. Keep up the great videos. Note the difference between white label and no name.

Kurzweil is also famous for talking about "the singularity" 20 years ago, when AI would reach and surpass human intelligence based on computer hardware advances. He predicted 2045.. But "the singularity" was coined by Vernor Vinge in 1993, in which he said: "Within thirty years, we will have the technological means to create superhuman intelligence. Shortly after, the human era will be ended." Well here we are, 30 years later.

Interesting story, even though the acquisition was already two years ago. This story is a little bit incomplete. In 1997 Microsoft acquired a minority stake in Belgium-based company Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products, and used their speech recognition and text-to-speech software in Windows, as well as certain elements of a grammar checker for Microsoft Office. In 2000 L&H acquired Dragon and then went bankrupt in 2001. This is when Nuance (known then as ScanSoft) acquired all of the L&H's speech technologies, including those from Dragon. Microsoft has since developed its own text to speech software, which is part of its Azure AI Services. In fact, this powers the text to speech in Office, Edge and Clipchamps. I knew Dragon from its NaturallySpeaking software and also knew Kurzweil music instruments, from the company that was founded by Ray Kurzweil and Stevie Wonder, who was the first person to buy Ray Kurzweil's reading machine for the blind.

The funnier thing about this video to me is the correlation to the ABK deal which IS their biggest purchase at 70b.. MS are smart they’ve realized in the software sector they’ve basically peaked but to insure they remain relevant and dominate have started to make companies in position to become dominant obtain the funding needed to do so.. And between LinkedIn, Chat GPT, Xbox, Nuance they seem in prime position to not only become players in many fields outside of the PC place that they began at.. They look like they are in prime position to dominate in these other areas also.. Ps I know it’s coming and I CANNOT WAIT until they bring Windows Phones back.. They were the best phones just had a lackluster app market.. With ABK now under them and Candy crush I expect the MS store to return and be quite robust along with phone soon after..

@ktdagoat1289
@ktdagoat1289 7 месяцев назад
@@LogicallyAnswered I think so, all signs point to it. If you pay attention Satya made that "I wish we kept windows phones alive" comment.. The xbox half (I'm a indie game dev so im focused on that sector alot) was speakibg of how they are currently bringing back the MS store for mobile to compete again Apple and Google.. Last fiscal reports the windows surface team and management were just changed to be under Xbox.. I expect them to do a "tablet, handheld game, and phone" trifecta.. It makes sense as sony has phones made to play PS games on, handhelds, and im just thinking MS will make a Xbox tablet for kids whod like that but dont want to buy a console (cause it just seems like Xbox at the moment).. Its also some pretty interesting document leaks from the ABK vs FTC, CMA trail from Xbox that shows (at least in theory) how what im saying is honestly REALLY plausible if not outright in the works..

If some way or other the windows operating system was more like an opensource thing if not more trackable or controlable by the user themselves , Microsoft is capable of outpacing every tech companies in the world now Although, windows is already the most popular desktop os but still if better then tech people won't leave it for many reasons other than that ; They are good with the acquisitions and their rights too They are good with the industry standard consumer markets rather than some google apple thing like github, aws, linkedIn, Ai and now health ( if goes in favour ) I believe that Nadella is the best gift the Microsoft team has ever got ( Even better than bill in some points I will say ) He is 10years ahead in many things than many other players in the market

For that they need speech synthesizer that can be fast enough. We don't need ai voice shit (yet) as we just want the neutral emotion of what's under the cursor and we don't need expressivity or emotion for that. Nuance created one of the best voices for such purpose. Or at least, their voices are heavily used within the blind community. They have deals with Apple as the default voice on voiceover screen reader in most apple oses and devces are from nuance. They are also partner with freedom scientific with jaws, the most known screen reader for windows. Although calling them no name company is just insulting.

American medicine is entirely monopolized. The Americans pay a lot, lot more for a lot, lot less! The same cancer drug that costs $87 in Australia costs $22k in the USA !

.You've never heard of Ray Kurzweil? Are you serious? You must be confused. Read more about him and I'm sure you get to that slap your own forehead moment and go "duh, of course I know about this guy".

Microsoft will eventually take control. They did it with Minecraft, so they’ll do it with other companies and products too.

Not really, I mean the microsoft account migration sucked but it didn't change that many things. If you hate spyware and chat reports you can just install mods that disable them. You can even use custom launcher like Prism. The only really microsoft-y minecraft is the bedrock edition with the marketplace, there is also all these spinoff games but ehh, you can just not buy them.

let’s be honest, nuance was there for someone to purchase and between all the big tech companies, I think microsoft was the best of them to acquire it. I highly doubt that meta, amazon or google would treat nuance better than microsoft. In most of their purchases, microsoft actually let the company do what it does best as long as they provide some value to their business. Other ones usually completely change the company to integrate it into themselves and ruin anything that is not aligned to give them the maximum profit.
