I always use Cockpit Cam because about 2 years ago, I decided Sim Racing for me wasn't about finding ways to get an advantage and be a bit faster, but it was about having fun and experiencing what real racing was like.
I’m with you too on this one, I’ve used cockpit cam since the beginning, I’m not the quickest with it but it feels realistic and more fun with the camera shake
@@FlagnarBoobz that's more so the game engines fault. Gamers will always find ways to abuse the system, the more realistic the physics the more realistic the lines of alien/esport drivers will be. F1 games are purely arcade games with a very crude physics engine. So once u get fast laptimes, things start to get wonky.
Exactly! The points I've heard/seen against it is that it's harder to see around the car ... but that's how it is for real drivers. Of course it should be enforced in eSports and be made optional to enforce in league/multiplayer racing. If e-drivers can't handle cockpit view, then they should go play Mario Cart instead. F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of racing, right? So why this wimpy way of driving. It's more immersive and closer to the real deal in cockpit view.
@@torbenlysholm1 if f1 22 gamers want to be recognized as full sim racers they should race cockpit view….but honestly its a arcade racer….so its more mario kart then iracing for example. And as long this game isnt a simulation it doenst matter what view they race….the experience is completely different and the expectations from a sim to a arcade racer as well.
@paper plane tbh the halo can get disabled in most sims. If you're in VR the Halo doesn't matter to you bc of depth. On 2d it's more obstructing than it would be IRL
Same here. Only drive in VR, cockpit seated and keeping the halo in it as well. Love the immersion like that. Looking at the Yt videos using the tv pod feels to me like cheating even ;)
I'm empress that Limitless switched to cockpit cam, because I use it for all my racing sims. It's awesome and shows of your true skill if you were behind the wheel in real life. Some racing sims games have more sense of speed than others. Also, Granturismo is the only one that enforce this cam for their competition's. Witch is a good thing! F1 sim competition's should do the same!
If they force cockpit view, then they HAVE to improve the FFB. Like you said, it's all about feeling connected to the car, and with the FFB the way it is in the F1 series, there's a lot of info that we're missing out on due to the lack of detail. I have no problem racing in cockpit view in AMS2/AC/etc because I get a lot of info through the FFB. In the F1 series, I use pod cam to supplement that lack of detail.
What you're not considering is that weirdly enough you do feel about two to three times as connected to the car in cockpit mode than you do in TV pod, so while it's still not much, it's definitely worth a try or two.
@@g2fiora I’ve definitely considered it, and race cockpit mode in other sims. The feedback in F1 series doesn’t come close to what you can get in other titles. What I’m saying is in Pod view, there are certain visual cues that you can rely on to get good times. In cockpit view, you have to rely more on the feel of the car because your FOV isn’t as wide. F1 needs better FFB to supplement cockpit view.
@@RyKnocks tbh correcting spins is a nightmare in pod view, while in cockpit cam you can see the wheel pretty clearly and correct every possible spin much sooner. I've improved a lot just in the first hour of cockpit cam, without having used it in any occasion before
I always used cockpit cam in this game and i feel the same with what you feel, the sense of speed and you feel more connected to the car. and for me personally it adds more fun to racing in the f1 games
I've only used cockpit cam. I want to experience the game as close as possible to the real F1 drivers, so I do all my league racing and everything in cockpit cam. I've gotten so used to doing only cockpit cam that I am actually around 5 tenths slower if I use any other cam. Besides I have the halo enabled at all times, and I've gotten used to it as well. It's no more a hinderance for me
i’ve recently been playing around with the cockpit view as well and i’ll definitely say it does seem to be a lot more intense, fun, & realistic but what I noticed is i tend to make a lot more mistakes due to the visibility of the camera view. You said it pretty perfectly. I think the reason why a lot of us use TVPod is for the visibility. Definitely would make E-sports more interesting though i will say that
I've just started to use this cam to drive, obviously removing the halo column for a matter of realism (3D reality vs 2D screen) and visibility, and I'm getting quite better. My pace has improved by 2 tenths just in 2-3 hours of practice in Time Trial. Most of all, though, I'm finding this cam super useful because it gives me a much better control of the car, also to correct spins in a smoother way. I thought it would've been a problem with track references or using all of the track itself, but watching replays from a on-board cam I noticed that I can keep a really consistent line. Driving around Imola with cockpit cam is a mesmerising experience, just 1.7 seconds off the best TT lap at the moment (which is great since I'm quite often up to 2-2.3 seconds off the best guy). Probably the only true problematic is handling duels, but I use the virtual rear mirror for that (which isn't cheating since the right and left ones can't be seen from this cam), plus AI cars are suicidal crazy mfs I can't predict even from the on-board camera, so whatever 😂
loving the smiles JD thats what its all about. i actually for the first time prefer the cockpit cam but only as ive started learning wheel. controller race offset or by the air intake
I actually started using cockpit cam bc of your vid from 3 months ago and I love it to help with visibiity I turned on the virtual rear mirror since I can't see the actual mirrors I lost a bit of pace when I started using it but I think I'm actually faster with it now than when I used TV pod
I made the permanent switch in F12017 and won't go back. Once you get over the mental hurdle of experience > fastest possible time, It just makes the game so much more immersive. I personally like the halo on, I find it forces you to look ahead. I set up my wheel to have dedicated look left/right, and adjust the cam so my SF1000 looks like it is in the car on screen. I turn steering animation off because of this and rely on my wheel for everything but ERS (Xbox compatibility issue) so I turn telemetry on and place it over the game wheel so that I just have to peer over the wheel to see my 🔋%. That could also theoretically solve your telemetry problem for streaming. Never made sense to me that cockpit cam wasn't enforced in ESports. The game should be played at the maximum difficulty at the highest level of play, no?
I like cockpit without the halo column. I agree e sports should use it with whatever monitor setup they please. It’s the closest to feeling like you’re in the car without vr. Also you can easily see past the column when in VR because 2 eyes and what not. Maybe if they could have a visibility slider so you can still see it’s there but still through it.
I totally agree with you. I watch your videos all the times and use a lot of your setups. I always race inside the car and I think F1 Esport should have the drivers get in the car. You have a big advantage racing outside of the car because you see more of the track. In the car, you experience what the real F1 drivers see racing around the various tracks. Love all your videos also...very informative.
I play f1 22 in cockpit cam with no HUD at all. Its really immersive and makes you have to use the engineer a lot more too. Also halo pillar on adds even more to it.
Ya I started out sims a year ago, wanted to make it feel as real as I could so started using cockpit cam a few months back, so much fun and I've found my times better
For a more real feeling and getting more involved in being in the cockpit. Is remove the rear view hotkey and implement look left and right, gives you a big sense of what a real driver see!
I've been cockpit cam from pretty much day 1. I like the intensity and after the first few laps when you get into that Zen of almost driving without thought you can almost trick you mind into thinking you're actually there. Hasn't really disadvantaged me in League racing whatsoever. Came all the way from Tier 4 in my league early this year and I'm now in the highest tier going into the next seasom all in cockpit. Will be racing the likes of Otis Lawrence though I'll certain won't be anywhere near him. I'm just happy I've got this far using only cockpit cam.
My friends and I play strictly in cockpit cam with almost all of the ui elements turned off. We leave the MFD and proximity arrows turned on. All other information we have to either get from our wheel or calling back to the pit wall. Is good fun. We've been jumping in to F1 2020 and racing the classic F1 cars and it's been a blast. I really hope that they bring that back instead of focusing on supercars and couches.
Bout time you joined us Cockpit view guys. Never have used anything other than Cockpit, it's honestly the best way to play, Everything else feels like a replay or watching tv to me.
I’ve been using cockpit for a bit and my enjoyment of the f1 games drastically increased when I started. It feels more real. If they would make the cars grip up more like real life I think everyone would like that. They’d be more driveable and fun to race wheel to wheel.
I agree the cockpit view should be the eSport view. And it should be just like the assists in lobby settings, the view should be an option to be open or close.
You should turn the head swivel option on so that when you turn your eyes look towards the apex. You can adjust the sensitivity too to make sure the swivel isn't too aggressive.
i started using cockpit cam when i was struggling to feel the car on track. It helped me to even turn of the assists and also feel the track itself better
I absolutely love cockpit cam. I used to exclusively use it. But I feel like online, and even just in general, there’s always a little bit of time I can find outside of cockpit view compared to being in it. I feel like it’s just because it’s easier to see your surroundings and see in front of you a bit but it really is much more fun in cockpit view. I wish there was an online mode that forced everyone into this view.
I’ve been using cockpit cam for about half a year now. Halo part being removed is a must cause I have 1 screen and can’t see anything in front of me with it. It started as just for realism around Miami thing I liked it and hated myself for it because of the increased difficulty. I race with cockpit cam and 0 hud on and I’m on controller. Knowing when people are diving down the inside or sitting in a blind spot is definitely the hardest part but it’s a lot more fun than with a hud and a different cam
I agree as well as many of us simracers in your channel. Its like cheating when not driving from cockpit. We are simracers guys. I respect those who are taking the challenge to drive realistic scenarious in every way you can.
i started driving in that camera in F1 21 already, because it also feels like i have more control over the steering in the slow corners. probably just my imagination, but it seems like i can steer in a little bit more xD
I always use cockpit Camera in the F1 games. I also do career mode videos in Cockpit Camera. Playing in the cockpit cam feels much more immersive than the TPod camera. Just started in RU-vid with cockpit camera videos and looking forward to some great gameplays ahead.
BTW JD, you actually do have access to the hud in cockpit mode. You just have to activate the option. It's somewhere in either the OSD or video options.
I didn’t know field of view and vertical adjustments were an option. I’m glad to know these are options and ur finding some sense of connection to the car. I haven’t really played with the F1 cars lately after feeling how good the F2 handling and feeling is
I've used cockpit cam always, and feel like it has actually made me a safer driver due to the lack of visibility, since I would shy away from any move where I'm not 100% confident I've got enough space to pull it off.
I always used cockpit view because with some setup, it feels like i'm in the car. I can see why people use the television camera, especially in esports. So, should they force it? i think yes, because it is a skill to have an overview with a more limited field of view. You can do unexpected overtakes, also there's a higher margin for error which would bring more action. I would love it, but i don't think they'll do it - its been to long with no camera restrictions.
Cockpit view is the way to go. Realism, as the driver eye cams have now proved. With an ultrawide monitor, low eye - screen distance and correct FOV, the mirrors are visible and useful. Other views should count as an assist.
If you’re going to use cockpit view, I definitely recommend turning down the camera shake, camera movement, and look to apex. I have them set to 1/1/0 and it makes the car feel less floaty.
Used TV-pod on my first F1 game in 2020. Changed to Cockpit on F1 2021 and I can't even get back to T-pod again because T-Pod feels super understeery. This is something I noticed right away when I changed to cockpit cam is that the car turns so much better. People say it's because of the perspective but that never made much sense to me. All camera angles make the car feel like it has a huge understeer /unresponsivness where Cockpit just turns where I want it to turn.
This is the only I’ve ever driven the F1 games, granted a little bit wider and with apex looking (on a 48 or 50 inch tv at 24 inches from my eyes). I also try to reduce the screen hud aids most of the time (but very hard as the F1 engineers are too slow - I once lost a race because of a DT penalty during a SC and the engineer told me just as I passed the pit entry that I had to serve that).
I started doing this after your first Cockpit camera video, and I haven't gone back. I even use the same view on every other teaching game on Xbox as well. I would suggest you move your FOV closer still, and if you find your view of the road ahead a bit crunched, raise your vertical offset to compensate. The rain you should move it forward is because of where your hands are. My screen is only about a foot behind my wheel base, so taking that in consideration, you should not be able to see your steering wheel, which is in your hands, on the screen as well, which is a foot further back. It's like driving from the back seat of a car. Your arms aren't that long. Anyway, just an idea that works for me and increases my submersion into the race. Try it out. You might like it. For the record mine is fully forward, with a slight vertical offset to allow me to see more of the road and less of the virtual steering wheel.
Switched to cockpit cam a while ago and i dont know why but i even became a bit faster and cleaner in my races. My main argument to use cockpit cam over TV Pod is the gain of fun
Although F1 game doesn't interest me and I don't play it, I have positive experience using cockpit cam in AC and AMS2. It feels like I can exploit setup much more and make corrections mid corner when a car is on the edge of grip. Outside cam makes it seem your car is always understeering. Kinda as if you are rolling some wooden board on a perfectly flat surface lol!
I play with VR, cockpit is the only option, its so much fun I don't care if I could be faster with monitors and the pod view. I WISH they would make it a lobby setting so I could race other people who wanted more immersion, instead of the cheese balls who only care about exploiting as much lap time off their laps as possible.
I think that it was on F1 2010 that you HAD to use the cockpit cam for the hardest in career mode. It's again one of those features where i think *why was it removed*
I love cockpit cam but i wish there was also an option to turn the halo completly off. I know its part of the car but without it, it just feels much nicer to drive
Yes, absolutely should be enforced, especially for the official e-sports competitions. Verstappen doesn't sit on the top of the HALO either, when driving.
Personally, I would only use cockpit camera in any F1 game made by codemasters if they drastically improved the force feedback. I drive assetto corsa only in VR and I use cockpit camera, it is simply lovely, you feel everything so you can look where you want to go rather then looking at the car in case you need to make adjustments.
I use cockpit cam since F1 2012 and it is the most realistic way for me to play the game, you should turn the halo on 😉 But you need a 21:9 monitor to really have the full field of view especially to see the mirrors
I drive all my league races in cockpit and if you get used to you start to see what happens even of the view is a bit blocked it your pretty much as fast or even faster than with tv pod.
So much better to watch! Fantastic dive in the first race! Looks like much better racing experience. Just don't go back again to the stupid pole cam view.
Your video on what you'd like to see in F1 23.. I'd like to see the ability to restrict camera settings (not FOV specific, but camera type). I had committed to making the switch for this game for my own sake, but after about 2 months I went back to TV pod and was legitimately half a second or so faster a lap just due to having that better visibility. It's unfortunate that cockpit cam just hampers you too much on spacial awareness and visibility of the track. I would league race in a league that had it mandatory.
The Pros & Cons of Using the Cockpit Camera 1. Makes racing a bit more intense 2. Makes you feel more connected to the car 3. Makes you see the track a little bit better 4. Makes the sense of speed better 5. Gives you the competitive edge Cons 1. You could hardly see the track 2. You never know when you'll crash into your opponent when you get next to them 3. Sometimes, it can make racing a little bit too intense. In fact, it can get so intense that the race will be hard for you to win. 4. Your visibility is severely impacted 5. The Chase Cam is far better for you if you're a beginner
All sims imo should force cockpit view if there gonna call it a simulated game.. this is one of the many reasons why I moved from consoles games to iracing on PC. If Rennsport follows suite with only cockpit view for live racing then I'm on that 🌞
