One piece and naruto with its massive lore filled world has too much potential as a RPG to not be explored to greater lengths I hope one day we get that one anime game to push the industry forward

My first assumption was always that their priority is to get as much cash from the fans during the first few weeks of sales, the game being a quality one coming second. You made some really good points and I hope your channel grows.

The main issue with most anime games is that they're licensed by Bandai. So speaking with our wallets won't do much. If it sells too little, they just stop making games for that series; no skin off their teeth. If it sells a lot, then Bandai takes that as a pass for making even more mid games. And when they do partner with a good developer that actually knows what they are doing, like ArcSys, they see the _massive_ numbers the game rakes in (around $150 million within two months of release) and probably think, "But did we need to put in _that_ much effort to get that much?"

Most of these games are either rushed just for quick sale numbers or just follow the same formula over and over again. These games would've been better if the developers actually dedicated some time to build the worlds, quests and polished the overall gameplay like combat and traversal instead of quick 59$ throw away games that are filled with boring campaign missions and overpriced DLC's. + Most of these games have a massive online component and the player bases die really fast.

Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle was actually a really good game, great campaigns (yes, multiple!) and a very addictive combat system and gameplay loop. Highly recommend it! It took about 120 hours but it was a very satisfying platinum and it even made me get back into the anime

can ya imagine a demonslayer game with dark souls mechanics?! It fits so well im not even joking like the stress u get from watching/reading the demonslayers trying to kill a demon that just wont die is the near equivalent of trying to play a game like sekiro or Nioh Plus with the way demonslayers utilize breathing that could be an interesting mechanic to use as a stamina bar. the potential with anime games is insane bruh i hope we get out of this era FAST

Messed up that bandai are not making most of these games themselves and just hiring cheaper devs, dbfz was the exception they hired arc system works the creators of some of the greatest anime fighters ever being guilty gear and blazblue, also bandai namco has the skill to make good games like tekken and elden ring

I feel like its pretty difficult to strike a balance between making the fans walk away from a product that feels like the property they love while also being great to newcomers to whatever property, and the higher budget to make a triple A game on such a hard line to walk is just dangerous, I would love a triple A Chainsaw Man game or whatever but it can just be a huge risk imo

honestly, the only good anime games are dbfz and dbX2 the others are dog water jump force had potential until the devs decided to treat it like it was the middle child that everyone forgets, now its offline and nobody plays it anymore

I've come to the realization that I have a very different view of what "anime games" even are compared to most other people here. As far as I'm understanding it, you guys are just talking about Arena Fighters and Musou titles...which are mostly just CC2 and Koei Temco. As well as the occasional cheap mobile gacha cashgrab. And you know what, as far as those go, fair enough. But then here I am thinking of those licensed games in other genres which are doing pretty well. Only issue is that these either don't get advertised so barely anyone knows they even exist or remain Japan only since their IPs aren't popular enough for the West. SRPGs have stuff like multiple "Super Robot Taisen" entries, "Full Metal Panic: Fight", etc. Heck, a new one, "Goblin Slayer: Nightmare Feast" was just announced not too long ago which looks like it could be decent. 2D action platformeres have a bunch, like "Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth" and "Overlord: Escape from Nazarick". Regular action games have stuff like "Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise" by the "Yakuza" devs. Apparently that "Fairy Tail" RPG from a while back by the "Atelier" devs is pretty good as well. So on and so on. And that's just the ones that are actually officially translated in English. There's a ton more if you're willing to deal with moon runes and import. Granted, I doubt any of these are "Game of the Year" material so they probably aren't good enough for most people. Definitely out here in the West at least where it's all still quite stigmatized. But, I don't know, a fun game is a fun game. A strange perspective, I know.

My biggest issue with anime games is that they're all the same dude. I won't buy an anime game until they make one that ISN'T A F**KING ARENA FIGHTER. I don't enjoy playing against sweats who no-life games like Storm 4 and never play anything else. Give me an open world Demon Slayer game in the style of Ghost of Tsushima or something. A very good idea for a One Piece game that would get game of the year no matter what is A One Piece Game that would be a game that allows you to customize your character and not in the TERRIBLE way that Anime Games have been doing, but instead a very detailed and good one, you then customize some other stuff (idk how you would customize a Jolly Roger though), after that you start in a randomly generated island in the Sea you choose (East, South, North, or West Blue) you can then travel along and find randomly generated characters with randomly generated backstories for you to meet, they have different motivations and different personality traits and you can recruit them to your crew or you can help them along with some other things, you also spawn with a small boat that can hold 3-4 people and you have to find a island that makes ships for you to have a bigger one (some characters spawn with the trait shipwright and they can build a ship if they go to a ship building location, also there’s a pity system where in 10 islands you don’t find a Ship Building location you get on your 11th), you can give Devil Fruits to your crew if they allow it (the crew can not like Devil fruits depending on their personality), you can unlock Armament Haki after beating 1000 Enemies and Observation after Perfect Dodging 500 times, you also have the possibility to have conquers which is a 1/1000 chance (sounds big, but Pokémon Shiny odds are way higher, especially in the early gens back when it was 1/8000), and every time you die you die for good, but a Crew member can save you, revive fruit saves you, etc, and if you get beaten after unlocking Observation & Armament Haki and almost die you can unlock Conquers Haki, The Revolutionary Army can be found sometimes in Marine Bases that sometimes spawn in islands you find (btw you get to name every island you find) and after helping (or getting helped by) the revolutionary army at a Marine Base 15 times you can go to their headquarters and befriend them, and if the randomly generated personalities are up for it you can join, or recruit a member, Devil Fruit awakenings happen when you defeat a Yonko with a DF, also things you do in game intact your bounty and that impacts the power of the enemies you face, don’t forget that beating other pirates that have high bounties increase yours, and so do Devil Fruits, The Marine Admirals & Fleet Admiral are Logia Fruit users, and also are the only ones with Logia Devil Fruits, and you can kill them for the first time to get their fruits, and they will respawn more with different fruits, and after all The Logia Fruits have had a Marine user, 4 Randomly Generated Characters will come with random Logia Devil Fruits but they also have a second Zoan Fruit with the Fleet Adrimal having a third, a Paramecia, but after killing them they don’t drop anything, anyway you can get multiple ships and have different captains assigned to them which can carry crews

I've been thinking about this for years, but it's only been a fleeting thought: Is it even possible to have a game that's like Super Smash Bros, but it's anime; officially licensed and all? I've even thought of my own ideas for such a "smash clone" concept and have it be a good game (imo) with enough things to also make it stand out. But at this time, it's only a pipe dream. ... and no, jump force doesn't count. It will never count.

onething we have to know before we trash anime games is that those games are set out to do something different than other games. they're at their root a homage and tribute to the original source material. a retelling and imagining of the original story. just look at how storm franchise handled that aspect and you will get the point. while big corpos will always do the big corpo shit. the eastern developers are more about preserving a tradition. they care about catering and nurturing fandoms. ever wandered why those anime games while being mediocre they still sell and not generate alot of backlash to a point of causing a big change in the scene? that's why. they're simply aren't at odds with their fandoms and everyone is happy they get to play their fav anime game. while tradition might feel a burden on progress for a westerner, but we can guarantee that eastern gamers enjoy healthier relations with their franchises and the people behind it in a world were being out of touch and marginalizing your fans has become the norm of western devs. to sometimes straight out insulting and humiliating their customers. it is pathetic. the western made games you mentioned are the exception. not the norm. those batman games. and the other couple dc/marvel good games? alongside hogwarts and some other rpg fantasy games? yeah. they broke the mold. you would be hard pressed to find a western made franchise that is as old as its eastern counterpart like street fighter, dmc, resident evil, final fantasy, and most other anime franchises, and doesnt go up in flames every couple of years or end up in a very sorry state. westerners (and americans in particular) are too acustomed to rapid change for their own good sake.

It’s crazy how the jump series peaked off on the ds. Sure it was a pseudo smash clone or whatever, but it gave a lot more charm and heart. Like it giving non fighting mangas a chance to shine and participate in battle as support and you can’t do that on console because the game had a unique panel system which you can use the touch screen to swap,summon, or combo with. The customization was endless, you want to put Tsuna from reborn on a team with Kazuki from Buso renkin and with support from the prince of tennis or eye shield 21? Go ahead if you have enough panel space. Like theirs no way a big anime crossover should fail, but jumpforce somehow did it.

Most any games are terrible not just anime games. I would even argue that anime style games(not just from anime but originals too) have a greater chance of being good than other genres.

It’s really crazy anime games aren’t that good. Anime that are ongoing should be a gold mine. Make a version now, and then a year later create a “demon slayer 2” with characters that are introduced later in the anime/manga. One piece would be a gold mine with that philosophy.

i appreciate your enthusiasm, but... i am real happy you aren't the front man of Bandai Namco, or any development team/publisher that makes anime games. Cause they'd go straight bankrupt. End of the day, it's just maths.... Anime games don't sell nearly as well as more realistic ones. The only reason why Super Hero games got a massive budget is because those movies did amazing in the box office. Plus, Spiderman just happened to have some good ps2 games too. He's a perfect fit. Avengers got that budget okay'd because they expected it to be succesful since the movies are/were. Anime games have always had smaller budgets and teams in order to barely make a profit. Naruto storm games were the exception that got pretty up there. But just look at the latest announced one. There is literally no hype for it. Naruto is less popular, and Boruto is just trash, so there is not much exciting to do with the IP. That same studio also put a pretty decent budget into Asura's wrath and it was a commercial failure that people enjoyed mostly for the 'cutscenes'. What about original IP? Scarlet Nexus didn't do well. Neither did Gravity Rush, in spite of Sony pushing it. Every single time an anime game got a slightly larger budget to try and reach a large audience, it just ends up failing and more studios go bankrupt. That is why it doesn't happen. The anime fanbase just isn't large enough, sadly. The only exceptions are games that have an established fanbase for it's story/gameplay, and that just HAPPEN to look anime. Think of Zelda and Final Fantasy. But they sure as hell aren't that popular because they are anime art based. So yeah. It's between a rock and a hard place. Chances of a DMC-style Bleach game succeeding are really, really small. Even though it would've been cool

I was excited to hear they were finally getting a game. Only for said game i paid $60 for to suck majorly. Where do i begin? 1. It starts you off towards the latter half of the series in the story 2. Imagine if there was a crossover Shonen with different universe not the fighting game like j-star and Jump Force more of an RPG and Open World and storytelling/Storylines and Graphics with animations style, combat/combo types like DMC5 or bayonetta and finally you can play the game with all the players/your friends in online (similar to A WAY OUT or IT TAKES TWO but with more players I’m not sure if you heard of the game) or you can play the game with just you alone and you can switch anyone of your favorite characters in Offline like legos games where you switch characters (not trying to say something harsh on the last part I’m just trying to explain any kinds of modes you wanna pick *nervous laugh*) that’s all the ideas I got (im not really good at explaining everything but at least I tried) I’m not sure if it’s good but I’m just trying come up with ideas to help make the game good (I’m not sure if it would work)

Have not yet watched the video but let me take a guess. Is it simply because they are adaptations of a source material? I have this theory that regardless of medium or whatever, most adaptations of any source material can't be any good because the story and stuff from the source material is not designed to work in other forms it gets adaptations into. The story of a book for example cannot be properly translated into a movie, video game, anime, or whatever else. Similarly the story and stuff from a video game is not designed in such a way that it can work as a book, especially if it's an open world game with a lot of the lore and world building coming from optional side-quests. You cannot turn Skyrim into a movie and expect it to work. Technically there are exceptions like when the adaptation intentionally tells it's own original story but set in the same universe as it's source material but other than that.....

I think the problem is that not only do these companies not have much time or budget to make these games but it’s also the fact that you can’t necessarily blame Bandai for it. We really don’t know what kinda rules or conditions Bandai has to follow in order to actually obtain these big anime IP’s which has become one with their company identity. If it’s anything like back in the day and they have to release these games within a relatively short time frame then as a company I wouldn’t want to put all my money and resources into that one game knowing that it won’t make its money back. On the other hand you have an IP like dragon ball which is pretty much a guaranteed money maker so spending a crap load of money and resources on a single project is more than worth it. And as you mentioned we the fans are also a problem when it comes to buying these games, hating on them, and then buying the next game without even thinking. I personally don’t even hate anime games or arena fighters. I just hate the mentality of the community where we constantly hate Bandai for doing the same thing as we ourselves do the exact same thing with every new game and blame Bandai for taking our money. Most companies don’t care if you talk bad about the game on twitter or social media, if people keep buying these games on mass that tells them that this is what people want.

Trying to replay DBZ: Kakarot made me rewatch this video. It's like the people who make anime games don't know what fun is. I'm seriously hoping Sparking Zero will finally break this curse of bad anime games. I'm both optimistic it will because I think the trailer is higher quality than anything we've ever seen from an anime game despite only being 1 minute long. The simple inclusion of impact frames in real-time gameplay shows that this is being made with some genuine quality, but I'm also skeptical because Bandai is Bandai. It can be incredibly easy to drag down the entire game by introducing the repetitive systems that every anime game seems to love.

I'd take Injustice and MVC over almost any anime fighting game, dbfz comes close but injustice has an interesting storyline and shows how terrifying an evil superman is, the comic just adds on to the lore, while the mvc games lack a storyline, they make up in fun ass gameplay. edit: if anyone is curious, I have not played Tatsunoko vs Capcom, nor have I seen any animes from Tatsunoko.

The closes thing they can do, is a Fortnite Collaboration, & guest Events.

It's like an RDC word skit. Every time there's a new anime that comes out, they make a video game that plays in the same style as the Naruto Storm series. Not that the type of game play style for the Naruto Storm series is bad or anything, but it can't be the formula going forward like MHA, One Punch Man, and Demon Slayer that are all unique in their own way as shows, but are all given the same gameplay formula. There are some games that do stick to the formula of just making an anime game a fighter and do it well, but that alone won't be enough. There is so much potential to be explored if the gameplay was taken in a different perspective than just a storm-style team fighter. A MHA game could benefit so well if it was open world and you actively had to look for villains to stop, civilians to save or perhaps even other heroes to assist. Or even go further and make it a game with 2 separate story modes, one as heroes and one as villains? And how about a Demon Slayer game that plays like Sekiro: Shadows die twice? Who wouldn't want to play that? It's like a perfect match between lore and gameplay style. And Imagine an One-Punch man game that was a hack-n-slash as, if not more unapologetically absurd yet badass, pushing the rule of cool to it's limits with gameplay like Metal Gear Rising: Revengance? These all have so much potential to go far, and be much more than what they actually are but people have their minds in boxes where anime games can only ever be a certain way. Unfortunately it's gonna stay that way for who knows how long until a miracle comes along.
