guys! what i meant at 7:20 by "writing and producing your own songs was not a thing in kpop" was that being a songwriter was not really a thing kpop fans paid attention to. it was only after bts that i saw people talking about a "composer line" or a "songwriter position" when they didn't care about it before. of course there were kpop idol who wrote their music before bts but it was not as celebrated as it is today.

Even then most “self written” songs by anyone outside of rock/metal/alt groups lean heavily on romance and hookup tropes and alienate people who may feel uncomfortable about it. It was all the more satisfying when a group who didn’t just write such lyrics exploded in popularity and got their voices heard.

It stinks that some people are calling you out for that line. Sure you could've worded it better so what you were trying to convey was more implied better but whatever. I think RU-vid allows you to edit ~10 seconds of an already uploaded video so maybe you can put a caption note on it or something

Nothing they said is really factual at all. No kpop fan is a fan of the industry. We always complain about the industry, how they treat trainees, and how the deal with their idol and let's not forget that bts is also part of that manufactured industry. As idols or artists they just have more free rain now. Also kpop is filled with many differing genres from rock to pop to rnb to edm ect. Most fans of kpop don't only pay attention to 1 groups unlike Army's (which is fine) and just like bts who make different genres of songs it's the some for every other kpop group as although a title track will have a distinct sound the bsides (other tracks on the album) vary alot I recommend the perfect velvet album by red velvet or nct 2020 resonance pt 1. if you'd like to see what I mean

@wherethemilk6277
@wherethemilk6277 Год назад
@@carmencrespo5704 the sound of a group refers to their title tracks more than anything. For example the groups NCT 127 and Stray Kids are knows for their titles tracks being noise music however that doesn't mean that their other song on an album arent other genres it's just what they're known for since it's the main track. And yes a company may me known for the best singers or rappers because they have teachers to train the trainees and usually companies will hold auditions to find talented ppl or scout them. Based off of what you're saying BTS is also a company product as well as jhope had no back ground in rapping, and non of the vocal line had any background in singing as well and no one beside jhope and jimin knew how to dance. The company helped train and mold them so that they could debut.

@@wherethemilk6277 I'm in the kpop community since 2010 and I can testimony that being a fan of a Company formula is a thing that does happens actually, also that kpop have styles of sounds that they give preference to BTS since debut don't followed what was popular back then, and when they do it generally is based in western industry more than korean, just like Dope was released back when It sound style was popular in US, and BTS does experiment way more with their music than a typical kpop group, the only other that I truly can say do the same are Mamamoo and G-Idle

The whole "if bts can do it so can they" sounds a little "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" which is a pretty flawed and dismissive sentiment. You're not going to say that to someone regarding MJ or Bey because their status is one of a kind. Nevertheless, BTS, and by extention ARMY, having no obligation to carry k-pop with them is accurate. The Industry itself is what holds all those Idols back. None of them can be BTS but they sure as hell can be way more than they are if given the room and empowerment to do so.

BTS’s success is ‘talent + passion + good mentality + the right time + the right environment (surrounded by good people that trained them, being in a small company, etc)’. BTS don't have to carry kpop because kpop never supported BTS. if any other group from the "big 3" ever made it then I think they would have some obligation towards kpop, because the industry would always be there for '' the big 3 ". kpop's disappointment in bts would have made sense if bts owed their success to the industry.

@@littlebluefishy you forgot to mention the embarrassing rumours and media play done on them by so called big3 , and about carrying k-pop when they were cutoff from broadcast it's kpop big3 decision so a few times shown in television but when they become big now it's people concern why other group are not getting that audience, BTS reach out to people themselves with pure hardwork and other group are getting a lot of audience from them, by paid recommendations and articles suggestions done by their company, there is huge difference between them, they are still fighting with racism among non k-pop fan abroad and here this all happening 🤦 let them have their success why just messing with it, Spotify filtering stream at massive rate to make that female group who has signed with them to become biggest group in the world in 2017 but BTS come in the way, they are not paying for adview to get authentic so their YT view getting deleted to a extent that 67 million views got deleted on 1 St day for ON MV, same with Jimin solo debut, Hanteo delete 700 k sale bcz it acquire by certain company that is competing with hybe of which biggest profit maker is BTS, like they coming from bankrupt company making all organically and now people are like why not this group, why not that group, why not whole k-pop ,why you didn't think this when other fandom collectively trends on twitter jhope ugly and make it to newspapers, when they get black ocean by those groups bcz army were small fandom that's fan war but when they make awards show into their concert just by their performance award show banned lightstick to stop those performance so that they can't be highlight of the show, it's the same strategy they are applying, sadly whole k-pop industry won't never leave them alone .

As my personal life circumstances grew more dire, BTS soon found me through a friend of mine. My mouth dropped when I found out that More was Hobi's song & cemented him as my bias. It took me longer to find my wrecker. Every time Tae would truly weep, I just could not take it. Or when he would say these low, shy, soft tones, I knew then. Each one has such a distinct unique magic to them. So, as a group they are naturally a super group.

She said "BTS are really musicians, they write lyrics and compose their songs, so they communicate well with those they work with. (talking about producers, musicians, etc)" in an interview with Adora (ex-producer of BH). That respect, was totally earned by working hard and honestly. But those kind of people can be found anywhere, not just in the BTS fandom, nor just in Kpop and that's just how it is unfortunately, even if it's very frustrating when those people downplay the achievements and successes of other groups and bash and look down on them or dismiss them as unknown/flops.

I've seen opinions thrown out there by multi-stans or K-pop fan that some people don’t like BE for some reason, or that they think it’s BTS’s weakest album, and I think this is a great example of what you talked about. BE was different in so many ways. The concept photos that the boys came up with were relatively natural and minimal. Although many songs have flawlessly proven themselves to be phenomenal performance songs, no song is a performance song with actual choreography (except Dynamite) or flashy visuals or special effects. This album had Bangtan filming a music video in their own clothes in their own rooms, and interviewing each other in extensive videos about their songwriting and production process and thoughts and goals as artists, and putting out a diverse multi-genre record with their reflections and worries and hopes. It was very much about the music, and that was something I loved. It was something they didn't even have to prove but they still did - yet another thing they showed they can do; a reinforcement that music is always no. 1 to them. Of course I love losing my mind over new hair colors and amazing outfits and being in awe of incredible choreography and performances and visuals and music videos, but I LOVED this genuine, simple yet extraordinary, cozy, perfect album. In my opinion, this was a decidedly “non-K-pop” kind of album, and maybe that's why K-pop fans have an issue with it? I myself am someone who was actually never that into music, but heard about BTS from a coworker, randomly decided to watch SNL in April 2019, and never looked back. I actually remember hearing the hype about SuperM and Jopping in fall 2019, watching the MV out of curiosity and not even being able to finish it because I just genuinely didn't care. Whether it's the music of other artists having such superficiality, or lacking the storytelling, authenticity and versatility of Bangtan, nothing can compare in my mind now. There is NOTHING like Bangtan and never will be.

i agree with everything you said about BE. BE is one of my absolute favourite bts albums - i think the songs in that album flow seamlessly and i love the different genres of music that were included, but most of all i love how raw, honest, and comforting the lyrics were. even a song like telepathy, which sounds like a fun and relaxing listen (especially following blue & grey), is filled with so much hopeful longing. when i found out that there were people who considered BE to be "empty" compared to bts' other albums, i could only assume that they were the types of people who equated "fullness" in an album with big-budget flashiness, and didn't even CONSIDER lyrics because authenticity truly leaked out of every pore of BE.

This is extremely true. I feel like 'BE' album goes above kpop fans understanding while that album is what got many out of dire mental health issues. BE is my favorite album for all the reasons you stated. I don't argue with anyone about the "best" album or "best" era because who's to say? I can only tell anyone what touches me most and it has been BE. I am starting to understand why kpop stans, even ARMYmultis, get annoyed with BTS and just don't understand most ARMYs. It's because you can't really play the "idol game" with BTS. It's not as fun to pick apart their fits and concepts, M/Vs and choreo, and just move on to the next thing. The song is always the center with BTS and everything else is built on its foundation. So if you're not into the song itself, the accompanying visuals and choreo won't matter as much to you, they won't seem expensive and flashy enough. The idol industry sells a spectacle while BTS presents you with themselves in art form. So for the person that came to consume the spectacle, BTS isn't going to feed them enough. It seems it comes down to what kind of appetite a person has.

The end of the video really struck me, and it's so real. I'm new to k-pop and, last month, I started getting into BTS. I assumed, at first, that BTS was just some handsome guys that sang about how cool they are. But then, when I started knowing them better and reading the translation of the lyrics, I found myself crying on the floor, because I relate so much to the songs. Their lyrics are so meaningful, and now I understand when people say that BTS helped them go through dark times. I'm so happy and pleased to see that BTS is more than what I assumed. It has been a wonderful journey to discover more and more about their work!

Also, despite not being an ARMY, I'll respect that BTS' audience has grown to such a wide range and different variety of music fans that cannot fully click with the K-Pop community. Why fight about music you don't click with? Just ignore it if you don't like it. Let the ARMYs live their ARMY lives, and let the other kpop stans be kpop stans.

I was mostly a rock fan and didn't veer out of that genre much until BTS. Since they blew me away so much, I wanted to keep an open mind and give other kpop acts a try. Very few had me coming back for more like BTS had. They adhere to no single genre and when it comes to the human experience, no topic is off the table when it comes to their lyrics, even suicide ideation. Hell, they'll write about catching fish. (Thx, Jin.) The variety of their vast catalogue is more robust than any band that has been around twice or 3x as long as them. BTS just cannot be contained in the kpop world, nor can be classified as such. Army understands that.

I've spent way too much time in this comment section but I can't help it, this subject fascinates me and I just thought of something: If those that are now only ARMY began stanning other kpop groups, nothing would change. The amount of time, money, energy, and devotion the average ARMY gives to BTS cannot be transferred to any other artist because it is BTS themselves, those individual humans together in a group, that make their work what it is. Any other 7 people under the exact same circumstances, with the exact same music, with the exact same choreo & marketing; would not have achieved the same results. It only works the way it works and it only resonates the way it resonates, because of how those very specific 7 individuals are together. Their specific delivery, voices, stage presence, humor, and how it fits together. So kpoppies are right in a sense; ARMYs love all of BTS' music because it's BTS that sings it. That is correct but that also means the constant detailing of how similar another group is or even how much "better" another group is, is a waste of energy. It's futile to be upset with ARMY over only supporting BTS because we literally CAN'T do these things for anyone else. We can stan others all day but because they aren't those specific 7 people, their music and content isn't going to conjure up the same level of motivation. If another group could have that effect on us then they would have, but they haven't. There's nothing to be done. But, hey, continue to discuss. I'm not above some discourse... obviously lol.

Wow,...so eloquently describing my exact thoughts and feelings! I have come to love BTS as individuals...they are like family, as are all Army. BTS are not 'idols' to me, but 'forerunners' of a spiritual awakening among mankind. Praise God for sweeping us up in this wave of love in these very dark times! BTS is the crest...Army, the wave!

This is becoming my favorite ARMY/BTS channel. To me, all the flashiness and dance choreos are just the icing on the cake. In order for me to become a solid fan, the music should evoke emotions. I've heard of kpop since the early 2000s but it never piqued my interest because I always thought kpop had this outdated sound. The first time my sister showed me BTS, it was the release of Mic Drop. I was (surprisingly) very impressed at how good and how mainstream they sounded -- but that was it and then I moved on. I felt too old for boy groups and kpop. Fast fwd to end of 2020 and what turned me into an ARMY was Jin's "Epiphany" and V's "Inner Child", two songs without all the flashiness. Those two songs took me deep down the rabbit hole where I discovered a myriad of impressive musical talents/works. Sure, the sound and aesthetics will capture my attention but the lyrics and message is ultimately what will ground me. Additionally, the people I support must also be kind, genuine, and overall good people who's truly passionate about their craft and cares about the world. BTS has proven that. I wish there had been an artist like BTS around when I was a teenager -- would've done wonders for my mental health.

I can't imagine doing a full concert! 3. Their shows are hilarious , intelligent and heartfelt. 4. They're family. They clearly are insanely close and get along well. I've never seen anything like it. There's no dumb drama that's scripted or artifical. 5. They're all natural comedians. 6. Most important- although they are all clearly different with their own personalities - I fell in love with all of them. That being said- they broke the mold on so many levels. It's not enough to be good looking, talented, a great dancer and singer/rapper. People have to actually like you and I checked out other groups and though I like a few. I noticed I'm not into them like bts. From the songs to choreography being sloppy or no passion. They don't make me howl with laughter like bts does. I actually fell hard for them through run bts episode 51. I had tears running down my face laughing so hard. 🤣 after that I binged watched all of run bts. Then I got into their music and started watching their performances . My jaw hit the ground. I cant believe these funny guys were doing these moves and crazy choreography. Listening to their instrumentals and getting goosebumps then reading their lyrics and it resonating with you. Their music is their story and most kpop groups’ albums just have a bunch of songs jammed in but there’s isn’t much thought about the flow. I was the perfect definition of "general public" prior to becoming an ARMY, I had a few artists I was paying more attention to but nothing too deep (except for Little Mix, those have been my queens since 2012). After discovering BTS it encouraged me to actually explore music which I wouldn't have normally given a chance to, and I found a lot of songs and artists that I like now. Sadly, 99% of k-pop just wasn't "it" for me. And just like you said, BTS is amazing even without all the beautiful visuals, breathing choreography and everything else that is a norm in k-pop (not that they lack in those areas). Most ARMYs follow BTS for what they have to say, not for what they wear or how they move. Sure, kpop gives you everything in one package (dancing, singing, rapping, high-quality MVs, pretty faces to look at), but if the music - which should be the number one priority (and isn't most of the time) - isn't good, you're not gonna turn a GP into a loyal, loving fan.

What I also find a bit annoying from K-Pop fans/journalists is the whole idea that you have to either be a 'stan' or don't listen to a group/artist at all. There is no room for casual listening. Like you said, a lot if not the majority of ARMYs, DO listen to other Korean artists (including idol music), but we're just not a 'stan'. We just don't dedicate twitter accounts to those artists like we do with BTS, but that doesn't mean we don't enjoy them. Not everyone has to have a 'stanlist' of 35 artists, just be a casual listener
@Yor_han

You know, some ARMYs say that having a stanlist with more than only BTS means you are not a 'true' ARMY It's kinda similar situations: both about staning and both kinda doesn't make sense
@MyrthexLatoya
@MyrthexLatoya Год назад
@@Yor_han I’ve not really heard any ARMY say this, but maybe that kind of rhetoric is just not in my ARMY circles. What I do see often however is kpop fans with a little bio on their platform that has every artist they are a ‘stan’ of in it, often very very long lists. I think it all comes down to how you define stanning, being a fan, being a casual listener, etc. And there seems to be a very big difference between how ARMY define that and how K-Pop fans and journalists define it. And this is where the friction comes in. K-Pop fans think once you listen to someone and like a couple of songs this makes you a fan or ‘stan’. ARMYs think you’re a casual listener in that case, and not a fan. So when you’re not 100% committed to BTS in streaming, voting, etc. you’re not really what many ARMY would consider a ‘stan’. And there is nothing wrong with that. But because K-Pop fans would consider themselves a fan even though they don’t vote or listen to an artist consistently, they get super offended when ARMYs don’t consider them a fan

As an ARMY who listens to KPOP quiet a lot: I first came for the music. So I thought I should be fair to the industry. So I did. Listened to Kpop from 1st gen to 4th gen and discovered many masterpieces. And among the ones I liked, few (countable) left a connection, but for the majority, they were bops. But I still thought it isn't fair to not go down the listener route of understanding the group and their efforts cause I didn't want to be ignorant of any aspects. So I did. But then I realised that a lot of it is dependent upon the fans. And the fans have given me so much pain and confusion. The disregard for BTS is so high that people shit talk you with no idea of your life and journey. Moreover none of them values an artistic journey. And so many among the 'ex army' who talk about the 'better era' talk with hatred. Which I fail to understand because a good artist is bound to go through the highs and lows. But they must keep experimenting despite that. Because otherwise their music becomes stale and repetitive. And even in the so called bad era, so many tracks have the exact aspects they want. But they no more listen (which is hundred % ok) but will still make some crooked explanation as to why they must still hate. And that's where the difference comes. Kpop doesn't care about artistry. Namjoon said 'the problem with kpop it doesn't allow you to grow' ie. *It expects you to be a machine that keeps running super fast until you inevitably die within few years. And kpop doesn't care about that death. Ok one group disbanded? So what there are 100 more left. Who is the next big band?* Thereby the attitude is never about the music. With BTS, purely based off of all the layers to their music (not including MV, Dance, Outfits or BU yet) has had the capability to induce emotion. Like the lyrical complexity of one out of plenty of songs like 'Ddaeng' to the complexity in musicality in 'Lie' explained by musicians as a purposefully change in minor to major to induce a painful and contradicting joy/euphoria when listening to it. This one aspect alone was capable of making me feel a exemplified personal connection with BTS. But then you include all the previous factors I neglected and then its complexity, it really healed me. It exists in Kpop. Many many artists who value that journey, and who value the artistic process. But get drenched under the everyday releases. I have huge respect for a lot of artists in kpop, and a decent amount of idols. I have also followed a patient and endearing journey with many. But unfortunately, I still can say *Because of the disregard I felt due to kpop, because they endlessly try to alienate me and my interest this group they hate, I have never fully been able to discover it with a mind of peace* Even naming BTS in kpop videos feels like am naming voldermort. Because I have had way too many experiences with just their mention (in the most appropriate and fitting place only and not anywhere and everywhere in an irritating way) and I still have been thrown hate over no valid reasons.
@kinetic3971
@kinetic3971 Год назад
There reason they throw hate is explained in the video. BTS is bigger than just kpop and for a lot of fans of the industry that makes them different than the rest and people don't like someone who stands out like a sore thumb. The playing fields isn't the same so to many it's not "fair". Their current favorite group should be getting attention as well.

so true.. kpop stans are the worst i am always nervous just looking at twitter. i hate when some other fandom try to brag about their stans achievements and say BTS is bad and what not. one thing is not liking the groups music witch is totally fine, but another is shitting on BTS and army for liking them. the only thing they learn from their groups are hate and jealousy. BTS teach us how to love ourself and overcome hardships in life and be a good human. and even if you dont believe in the BTS power, they should not undermining it impact BTS has on other people and wish BTS gone just because they want their stan to win an award. kpop stans ruin BTS reputation from outsiders who dont understand how it works. and that´s why army response negative to when the media compare BTS to other kpop groups for me BTS is the evolution of kpop but the kpop dont want to change. some has the memebers help writing music and even produce music. but if you are instructed in how to produce what the company wants you to sing then it´s not your own style and choice of music. when you write from the heart and make a song you really love. and see how fans also love it that will make you proud

Cuz fans are mostly blind teenagers, of any fandom, and they will make you feel like shit for just liking what you like. I'm a multistan with BTS as my ult and have both the fandoms not bashed me equivalently for being an ARMY and also a multi! Criticize any group and they'll be like 'Ofcourse you're an ARMY'. Defend other groups and explain to ARMYs that there are other people who are talented and that they shouldn't generalize kpop when they don't even know anything about kpop other than BTS, and then ARMYs would call me a fake ARMY and what not. At this point I only interact with my real life friends, thankfully most of them are kpop stans or ARMYs (more like I turned them into, the ones I turned into ARMYs are also multistan cuz they didn't have a fixed perception beforehand).

beautiful explanation. It is not a group project so why are we forced to listen to other artists? And with BTS announcing their solo projects, a lot of fandoms were like "now that BTS is gone, Army's will come flooding our fav" and I laughed so hard because from the outside they hate on Army's, and BTS, they throw racial slurs, xenophobic comments and just genuine hate for us, but the moment they heard about the "hiatus" (which was actually just them pausing OT7 projects for solo projects) they wanted Army's so badly to join that Fandom. They act like they hate us, but they're so envious of our loyalty, love and relationship with our boys. I listened to other kpop artists and their music is not meaningful at all, they create songs for tiktok and edits, nothing from their concepts, lyricism and creativity comes close to BTSs and that's why I love BTS. They tackle issues through their music, give comfort, speak about their struggles, the bond bts and Army share, and many more. You look at songs like converse high, and immediately thing it's about them hating converse, when it's not, or fake love, and think it's about love between your significant other whereas they talk about the fake love they have for their raw selves, how they wear masks to cover up their flaws, and only show the world what they desire to see within them, etc. BTS songs are really a great example of "don't judge a book by its cover" whereas in their case its "don't judge music by its artists ethnicity". BTS are not kpop, they are a genre itself because they don't only focus on one genre like hip hop, they do a plethora of it, mixing genres to find their taste. If you love and appreciate music and it's lyricism, BTS is definitely a must listen.

I found BTS in 2015, I was an 18 year-old girl in the middle of an existential crisis because I had no dream so of course I completely connected with their music and was blown away by their talent and performances. Since they were going to music and award shows, I was exposed to every group at the same events as them. I even intended to dive deep into kpop because I was curious but I lost all interest as months went by, it just wasn't my thing but instead BTS became THE Artists of my life, they definitely were and still are very different from others. Now that they are going to their military service, I've constantly seen other people doing comments like "now armys are going to go to other kpop groups" which makes me laugh because BTS aren't "disposable" or "replaceable" to me and I'm perfectly fine with waiting as long as it takes for them. I'm a big fan of other artists like McFly and Ed Sheeran and they got years between albums so I'll be okay 👍

When I got into BTS in 2016, I love their music/lyrics and their discography throughout their albums and era, especially their messages about self-love, struggle of mental healths/youth, problems in society, and a lot more. BTS is the only artists that really and truly understand the meaning of life and self-love, that what made BTS unique and stand out the most. BTS are really passionate about the artistry growth in music, and trying out different genres/styles in their music. To be honest, BTS is like the only artist that really do talks about these important topics, that not so many K-pop artists/groups and even western artists, but now, most music are mostly about s3ggs, dr*gs, and “girls/woman needs to look pretty to get approval by men” those type of songs. I’ve always felt alienated by popular music regardless of whether it was western, kpop, or American country music because many people do NOT make their music asexual, aromantic or autistic friendly. For a while the only bands I didn’t feel alienated by were rock bands, metal bands and alternative/punk music. Then BTS came along, and not only did they have very sensory friendly music (most if not all their songs have a very gentle background and even those that are fast paced give you a lot of breaks in between verses to collect yourself), but they also cover a variety of topics and human emotions and do it WELL. I’ve never liked positivity anthems because they were super vague and make it feel like you were at fault for not being happy, but BTS’s love yourself series not only show that it’s okay to stumble while trying to love yourself, they also did it with a message about how we’re losing ourselves because society keeps telling us that a romantic relationship is everyone’s end goal when no, it really isn’t, and there are other types of loves and goals out there (like self love). That was what I really appreciated as an aro-ace person, something that validated my existence (which I still absolutely can’t find these days) And even with their solo works, they’re still making varied content, still making sensory friendly music, not meandering around with their lyrics and messages, have love songs that are actually about different types and not just about romantic love, and are straightforward and direct. And that’s what makes them so great. I am never leaving.

I just want to say that you are so right (about the asexual and aromantic aspect) I remember trying to share a BTS song with one of my sisters and all she kept saying is that it was another love song. I tried to explain that it wasn’t and that it was actually aromantic and how it was beautiful. I really tried to make her see that BTS’s lyricism goes beyond what it seems in the surface. I eventually gave up trying to show her BTS songs because she told me that she didn’t care the messages of the songs she only liked songs to dance that she did not enjoy just listening to songs the only songs she enjoyed were the songs she could dance to with a good beat. So I try to change my perspective and try to show her BTS songs that have good beats to dance to. I try to show her the song far away by Agust D and people by August D, also love myself answer, magic shop, and Epiphany. Her response was very unexpected she told me “I don’t get why teenagers these days like dumb music that talk about dy*ng and feeling very sad. It’s stup*d it’s just damaging your brain. But you can listen to what ever you want, but I don’t get why people would want to listen to that. These days young people are so emotional they are not prepared for real life and they are so whiny. She also told me that in her days she liked a band that was called “Rebelde RBD”(a spanish speaking band of boys and girls). But that I take it too far with BTS. That I am obsessed and that I should live life and not only see them through screens. That I should go out and party and make friends and that I am wasting my life listening to BTS. Of course I didn’t take what she said to heart even if it did hurt my feelings in someway. I still love her obviously she’s my sister she will be there for me when I fall she will help me pick myself up. But I don’t agree with her, all the things she said are so wrong in so many different ways. Now I have officially given up on persuading her because I’ve realized she will never understand and I have tried for so long on so many different subjects but she always thinks she knows more because she’s older she always tells me “El diablo sabe mas por viejo que por diablo” = “The devil knows more for being old rather than for being the devil” BTS lyricism saved me, it made me rethink a decision that would 끝 my life. It made me realize that I wanted to be a part of this family called army for the rest of my life to share each other’s happiness and support each other in hard times and that there will always be a spring day waiting and that we’re never walking alone and that it is OK to be sad to be angry to be happy and most of all that it is OK to show it. Of course nobody knows this, nobody knows that they are the reason I can smell the flowers or that I can see the snow or that I can feel pain when I fall of my bicycle or that I can be screaming at the TV because BTS won the award they were nominated for, or that I can “waste” my time listening to BTS songs. And they will never know because they will never understand and I’m OK with that I’ve learned to live with all these scars because of BTS and I am proud of being an army I am proud that I can share such delicate experiences with this family and That I can be confident that nobody will judge me but you my family can uplift me. -I Love you all thanks for listening to my ranting goodbye have a great day 💜

Their VLives, interviews, and shows like Run BTS helps me know about their personalities, interests, etc. I’ve invested a lot of time learning about these guys and I can’t imagine investing that same amount of time getting to know the members of another K-pop group. It’s not that I don’t think there are wonderful people in other groups, but their music has failed to “hook” me the way that BTS’s has, so I have no motivation to fall down that rabbit hole. I liked a lot of the music, even drove 6 hours to Chicago several times to take her to see B.A.P, ViXX and Block B concerts. I still listen to some of the early music that I discovered then -- EXO, Infinite, SHINee, Bigbang and others. But as I learned more and more about BTS, my focus shifted to them. First it was because of the lyrics and the stories of BTS Universe that were so complex and touching and beautiful. As time went on, and so much content was created by and about BTS, there wasn't enough time to digest all of it, let alone pay attention to other groups, lol! I can't get away from BTS because I'm so in love with their personalities, their inspiration, their thoughtfulness and intelligence, the love and acknowledgment they give back to us, EVERYTHING! No other group in my 64 years of listening to music has given me all that BTS has -- every day they inspire, uplift, teach me something new, give me energy, give me hope and joy and sunshine. Something interesting I thought of while watching is how integral writing and producing their own music seems to have for many fans. I wonder if the expansion of idols who do produce and write their own songs (ex: 3racha, Soyeon, and many more) is due to BTS's crazy success. Perhaps it played a part in companies wanting their own artists to pursue those avenues in the hope to reach a similar level to BTS? Idk. Just a thought that occurred.

Well, in my opinion- no. Tbh self-prouducing was already a thing in the kpop industry. Many groups from 2nd gen was _already_ producing their songs, including successful groups like SNSD, SuJu,. B.A.P, Bigbang etc. The difference is that, it WASN'T their *main* "meta-point". Like SuJu is known as the legendary grp with many accolades, but how many people know(or even care) that they had produced a lot of their songs?? None. The thing about BTS is that, they were the first ones(or one of the very first ones) who TRULY EMPHASIZED on the importance of self-prouducing. They went against the general principle of the industry, which treated self-prouducing as an add-on, not a main charm and told us that it WAS an important aspect of artistry afterall. Apart form BTS, only SVT were a grp that truly *boasted of* their producing skills(even earning the title of self-prouducing idols), but even that was kinda unintentional. Which means, they did produce and took pride in it, but didn't think of turning it into a marketting strategy. BTS were the only one that did, and that's what set them apart from the rest of k-pop grps.

Actually writing and producing songs is great for any artists and it's admirable , but the message the songs deliver , or the way it deliver is what makes someone a real producer in the end , so ... just writing and being producer alone won't make any difference if what you produce isn't really reaching the depths of the audiences heart.

I was into rock, punk, funk, classical, global folk music, and sporadic songs of other genres, until I met BTS during their HYYH era, when I was 45. I was blown away by what I missed having no idea of kpop's existence until then and the first thing I did was to search for other kpop acts. And it was disappointment after disappointment after disappointment. As an army, I watch all the k-award shows where kpop presents its best products each year. And they range from forgettable to unbearable for my ears. All these years, the only songs I enjoyed while waiting for BTS to take the stage are 2 by mamamoo, 1 by super junior, 1 by got7, 1 by dreamcatcher, 1 by jessi - plus some trot, rock and ballads that aren't kpop anyway.

I was into metal/grunge/rock music before BTS. I listened to a lot of pop as well and was a huge Lady Gaga fan but rock was my ... well rock haha. I always went back to it. I got introduced to BTS by watching a Pewdiepie video and he reacted to Not Today. I don't know what it was about that song but it completely took over. I started listening to more and more BTS songs and also explored a lot of other Kpop groups. BTS's music is just on another level. There's fun, silly, serious, sad, deep, inspiring, dancing, and just so many different types of songs that can fit into any mood you're in. BTS has become my rock now. While I do still listen to my old favorite bands (especially MCR) BTS is my go to now. They've been my #1 played artists on spotify and RU-vid music. Now don't get me wrong there is songs I do not like from them. I'm not the type of fan who loves everything artists put out. It makes me upset when people tell me I'm not a real fan because I don't like a song. For example people come after me when I tell them I do not like Spring Day. To me it just sounds really loud and I feel like I can't hear the vocals cause of that siren sound. We can't be expected to love every single song that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the song it just means we personally don't like it and that's okay. I really liked this video you talked about a lot things thay frustrated me and I felt seen honestly. At the end of the day, it is much better to say that BTS is not limited to Kpop. Separating the boys completely to Kpop is absurd. We are winning and taking Kpop awards left and right and bragging about "first Kpop act" titles and records. It's confusing and a little hypocritical to sweep the Kpop tag under the rag when clearly, BTS was part of that industry since day one. Yes, BTS has become bigger than Kpop. They have elevated their music that's why our boys have become the biggest group in the planet but no matter how you detach them, Kpop will always be part of them because they still belonged in the industry.

They are, quite simply, incredible artists. When they return from military service, they will have even more to write about, new experiences, new perspectives to share. They are artists and will continue to use their lives to hone their craft. They are my forever idols, but also so much more than that. The emotions they inspire feel personal, as if we have a real, mutual affection and concern. We will never forget BTS and yes, they will go down in history. They will be remembered like The Beatles, who put the British sound on the map and ushered in the British wave. But those kind of people can be found anywhere, not just in the BTS fandom, nor just in Kpop and that's just how it is unfortunately, even if it's very frustrating when those people downplay the achievements and successes of other groups and bash and look down on them or dismiss them as unknown/flops.

I first found BTS at the start of 2020 and immediately fell down the rabbit hole Throughout the rest of 2020, I watched all the korean award shows and learned about the other major groups and thought that maybe I had found my ultimate Boyband Heaven! As someone coming fresh in to kpop, I didn't have any bias about following different groups and was happy to give everyone a try. But as time has gone on, and as I've seen more Comeback Cycles, I've realised that all of it is recycled. It's like cotton candy. Initially visually alluring, sweet for a second and then leaves you with nothing. It was fun for a year when it was all new to me, but now it's just kind of soulless and repetitive. I still have fondness for the personalities/boys in some of the groups, and some people (like Taemin for example) are very special artists, who I hope get more recognition. But my interest in kpop as an industry is pretty much dead. The wave washed over me and has already peaked. BTS's catalogue, and quality is ever evolving, and their lightning-in-a-bottle dynamics are why they are the biggest group in the world. It can't be replicated or compared. I don't blame fellow Armys at all for skipping the candy and just eating the delicious meal, in fact, I'd recommend it.

Thank you for saying this! This reflects what so many people in the fandom feel. Most of us did check out other groups in the kpop industry, thinking that there might be more artists like BTS. The answer is: there really isn't. BTS is very much an anomaly, and they represent real korean musicality. The only reason they keep getting lumped under this 'kpop' label is because they are built like your typical kpop group. Then in the west, they get dismissed as a 'pop boyband one direction 2.0 for teenagers' because they are built like your typical western boyband. There is no winning. Once you stop assuming, and actually explore their music, their messages, their artistic identity... you quickly realise that they are definitely up there with the most inspiring, sincere and legendary musical artists and performers that can resonate across generations and people from all around the world.

I have spotify and I listen to a lot of music with it, but I never listened to kpop on it, I only use youtube for that. I always thought it was just me but now that I think about it, listening to a kpop song without the mv feels *wrong* because it's almost like you're missing a part of the experience. When you're a kpop fan, you can't just "listen to their music" you are almost forced to see their videos, their performances, their interviews, etc. Not a fan of bts' music but I can at least appreciate the fact that they're musicians first, idols second.

BTS is kpop. You're literally a kpop stan. You're not special. Other kpop groups make good music and most fans like them for the music.

@@EverRoxas did you not watch the video? kpop fans are mostly there for the industry and not for the music

yep i have had first-hand irl experience of this. had a ex-friend who was a kpop fan and every day she talked about a new group. i seriously couldn't keep up. I was wondering, "how can you truly be fans of all these groups? How can you truly connect with 10+ new people every day and say you are obsessed and that their music is great? How do you have time to really dig into who they are as artists and what their musical journey looks like?" The answer is They dont. They aren't here for the music, for the messages. One because there isn't any real messages, its all just flashy visuals and which one looks the hottest today. I've seen what the 'kpop industry' is, and what 'kpop fans' really love. And I'm not here for it. I prefer music with depth, with a message, that contains pure artistry. and I find that with BTS, not in the kpop industry.

@@jen-wj3bc yeah Sadly ,kpop industry is more about images ,personas and visuals I only stan bts and know their journey from bottom to top And I really respect bts members as artists because the way they convey their emotions, their lyrics, their passion for music shooks me everytime

Kpop Stans bullied and shunned BTS since the beginning. Bullied them harder when they got bigger globally. Now they want to rewrite history and claim BTS’ impact on the industry is due to “kpop” and not BTS. So frustrating

I am a kpop casual listener, and there was a time when I stop listening to that genre because i cant get accustomed with such mix match and high notes which kpop fans take a pride on their vocalist. It was around I Got A Boy was viral. But when it come to Bangtan, I can listen to their discography back to back, no skip, and dying to get the insitrumental version too because holly f it was dynamic, complicated, and an amazing sound humans ever produced. I have a massive love for Bangtan, still listen to kpop, liked some songs but never deeply care about anything else beside Bts.

This was a great video. As a 48 year old American who discovered BTS a year ago, I realize that it really is the music that made me a fan of BTS. The music is intelligent, thoughtful, and varied unlike much of the garbage that passes for music on my local radio. I have tried branching out listening and watching videos of other K-pop groups, but haven't found any other group whose music hits me the same way. I like a handful of songs by a few other K-pop groups or artists so far, but that's it. From your video, I realized that the reason is that K-pop is an industry that is not about the music, but about the visuals. It now makes so much sense. Thank you.

Good thing you pointed out, kpop is an industry which is treated as a genre coz it's a big industry, much like Bollywood

My goodness, you explained this so brilliantly! Before finding BTS, I was mainly a heavy metal fan, but fell in love with BTS because of their music and especially their lyrics. I actually tried really hard to find other K-Pop groups that would capture me like BTS has, but nothing has come even remotely close.
