Why Most Star Wars Fans Actually Don't Know Much about the Battle of Coruscant 

This battle deserved a dedicated season in the Clone wars TV show.

The Battle of Coruscant was one of the most beautiful space battles in Star Wars. The music the visuals, the story are all stunning, especially in 2005.

It is horrifying to notice how much of a master stroke this was from Palpatine, he destroyed what was left of the droids and left the republic with its pants completely down and incredibly scared in one foul swoop. Tzeentchian level of manipulation.

Man imagine if they covered this in the Clone Wars That could've been at least 5 episodes

This puts the urgency of Anakin and Obi-Wan rescuing the Chancellor much more apparent at the beginning of Revenge of the Sith.

Fordo: "Sector 4 needs reinforcements, we are being overrun. Repeat, we are..." *Proceeds to dual wield a DC15 and pistol*

Ah, the Battle of Coruscant. The overall badassery schtick there: captain Fordo wrecking the battlefield; Yoda with Windu fending off the threat; Shaak Ti protecting Palpatine; general Grievous tricking the Jedi and capturing Palpatine; Windu damaging Grievous chest chasis. All of them acting like chads 😁

I’d say the Genndy Tartakovsky’s portrayal of the battle in 2003 was insanely good.

The fact that some SW fans don’t know of the legend that is Captain Fordo feels insulting

I kinda found it crappy that we never got a more in depth look at the battle of coruscant as it was pivotal part of the clone wars that was near the end. Especially since the separatists sent so many droids and vehicles which would choke out republic forces sans Jedi.

This was the capital of the Galactic Republic and one must remember that there was probably hundreds of thousands of street fighting going on, for the first time the Clone Army actually pushed to its limits, and this was the beginning of the end of the war, Jedi, and the Republic democracy.

We need an animation or a live action Battle of Corusant in a movie or series.

The now legends and amazing Republic commando novels have a great few chapters of it.I wish they recanonised them and kal skirata

All I know is Captain Fordo singlehandedly held off a superbattle droid attack with a DC-15 and a pistol.

And in the center of all of this, an old man who played 4d chess against himself.

They should make a movie of a family just trying to survive the Battle of Coruscant. No need to have a big player hog the spotlight. Star Wars needs to experiment with other genres.

The Battle of Coruscant was big enough to warrant it's own movie. I'd hoped that in the Sequel Trilogy we'd get a second Battle of Coruscant with the Rebel Alliance/New Republic moving to retake the planet from the Empire. Instead, we got... well, you know.

What never made sense is that if the battle was so massive on planet, why did everything look relative normal during Ep.3? Like there were still going about as if nothing happened. You see ships flying in traffic, people going to opera and everything looks clean still.

An FPS game set entirely in the battle of Coruscant would be epic. Chapters set in different areas of the planet from the epic ground battles, aerial battles to ship to ship combat above

It's a real shame we never got to see a recreation of this battle in TCW. It could have easily been an entire arc, ending where EP3 begins. Such a shame...

Let’s not forget the part where Captain Fordo defeated several droids by himself

During the Battle of Coruscant, wasn’t it then Lt. Commander Lorth Needa, skipper of the Coruscant Home Defense Fleet ship Integrity (Light Cruiser, Carrack class) who ended up in charge of Strike Group Five and ordered the Invisible Hand to be fired upon, resulting in Anakin Skywalker having half a ship to land? This would be the same Needa that lost the Millennium Falcon in the Hoth system asteroid field and was executed by Vader for his failure.

One thing I've always wondered is whether Grievous knew Palpatine was Sidious.

The battle of Coruscant is something we haven't really seen much other than the start of ROTS and the 2003 clone wars show

Labyrinth of Evil, was an awesome read, and I knew all this beforehand, but it's cool hearing another perspective on it...

Okay, for once I actually knew a lot about the battle were talking about, mainly because I wrote a fanfic for the Battle combining Canon, Legends, and my own ideas, well over a year ago, so I did research for the battle. And by research, I mean reading the Wookiepeida article about the battle and rewatching Chapters 23 to 25 of the 2005 Clone Wars micro-series over and over again for almost every minute detail I could find, mainly so I could go into excessive detail about the fight scenes. Of course, I did make changes like I said, didn't have Stass with the group because I felt Grevious couldn't be able to beat two fresh masters, and I had Roth and B'ink with the group from the very beginning thus they were a part of that crazy fight in the train station, one of the cooler and unique fights from Star Wars if you ask me. Also, I chose to end the story after the events depicted in Chapter 25. And despite all that, I still didn't know everything about the battle, so once again, you have proven yourself the Grand Master of Star Wars Lore, Master Geetsly. In comparison, I am still just a Padawan, far inferior to your greatness. Although, one thing I did beat you at is I made sure to include Fordo in all his badassness in my fanfic, whereas you failed to mention him at all and the role he played in this battle. That was you're one mistake, Master Geetsly. LOL.

All three prequel movies could have been an hour longer, each. Phantom Menace should have had about another 20 minutes of Darth Maul, and AOTC and ROTS should have shown much more of the actual war. It really is a shame. George didn't even show us Anakin fighting Jedi in the temple! Whyyyy!? I really need more prequel era movies in my life 😅

Series request. Total recap of the clone wars talking about the war how the separatists and republic were winning and losing. All the in depth stuff from key episodes showing emotion of why clones Jedi and separatists did what they did. And points of how the entire story line could be different if this scene went in direction B C or D compared to how it actually went. Just everything based on CW as it was sooooooo good. Same for rebels too

I know the Battle Of Coruscant was featured in the 2003 Microseries, but it definitely would’ve been interesting to see what it would look like in the 2008 TCW series.

I read "Labyrinth of Evil", and this largely follows that narrative. The movie left out tons of details like this, but was visually hypnotic. Horrifying the death and destruction on both sides, just so Palpatine could tighten the noose on Anakin.

I’m upset that when Disney acquired Star Wars they pulled several mature rated comics off. Including the series that involved this battle and why Foxx wasn’t just a zealous man of the law that his ptsd influenced his paranoia

i actually really really enjoyed reading this story as part of "The Dark Lord Trilogy". it was the first book and the second book was the novelization was revenge of the sith. you can also find out what that "business on cato nemoidia" was that kenobi claims doesnt count. was a really good read when you read those 3 books in succession and it really gives you a much better view of just how badass Grievous really was in both battle but also strategy. it was a masterful use of slight of hand and it made it far more clear on whether or not grievous ever actually knew who darth sidious actually, which is a detail that the movies dont make all that clear other than to leave you with assumptions. i love hearing more info on this

Personally I prefer the version in the original animated series clone wars, although it’s more or less the same thing, except there were only two Jedi with the Chancellor in the bunker, and shak ti arrived too late to help them, but was still incarcerated by grievous.

I love how it's explained in the Labyrinth of Evil book and depicted in the 2003 Clone Wars miniseries! I would expect it to take MANY years to fully clean up and repair the city, and even longer to find/identify all the bodies

The battle could be an entire season of The Clone Wars, and honestly that would’ve been kind of awesome.

Actually the abandon ship tactic grievous used was a last ditch effort on his part he ordered the ship to stay in the atmosphere so when it did fall apart it would plummet to the ground. As a last resort he launched all escape pods to make it impossible to escape essentially making the ship there tomb he’s majorly under rated as a tactician and warrior

Clone Wars 2008 kinda did what ever it wanted with it’s arcs, focussing more on characters. I would’ve liked to see more of a narrative about the war itself; exploring the more important campaigns & giving us a better understanding of how winning or losing territory affected each side in the long run.

I thought the pre-Disney cannon put the victory-1 class did not show up till the end of this battle, the ventors were getting there ass kicked when a fleet of identified star destroyers came out of hyperspace and forced the seps to retreat with whats left of the defense force not knowing who or what saved them. It was the 1st public appearance of the victory-1 to ever be seen. Now this is pre-disney cannon around the original SW battlefront 2 era from the 2000’s.

Imagine if we had a movie focused on a home defense force on the planet and how they defended the planets leading up to it and after

The secret fleet and army deserves so much more light. I remember getting chills reading the RC book about all of these unmarked ships and normal clones not recognizing the forces.

This one and the battle on Praesitlyn are probably the most important battles during the clone wars. Maybe one day we will see more of what happened. Flashbacks maybe? That would be dope

Would have LOVED an extra hour dedicated to this battle. In the deleted scene while trapped in the ray shield on the Invisibility Hand Grevious kills Shaak Ti too.

The battle which fully Cemented the glory that is Captain Fordo the single best clone of the entire army bar none

I read the now legends Labyrinth Of Evil novel a while back. It covered all of the extensive details regarding the Battle of Coruscant, like where Padme was throughout the battle, and Mace & Shak Ti searching Palpatine's secret tower in the industrial sector, and so on.

Fun fact, the Corucant guard was the largest fighting force in corucant. They also did kill more droids than any other unit. This is because they were the first to meet them.

This reminds me of RedLetterMedia's biggest points in the Revenge of the Sith review. WE NEVER SEE THIS! Even after the battle there's nothing on the ground. Everything is just fine.

There is actually a really good Star Wars novel about the events leading up to Episode 3 including the battle of Coruscant and Palpatines abduction by Grievous. I can really recommend it. I listened quite often to it as a child. In the german version they even got the Original voice actors for all characters. It‘s called Star Wars: Labyrinth of Evil. There‘s just a few small details that don‘t fit Star Wars canon any longer because of the last Clone Wars season. But it is still very accurate and a good depiction of the cat and mouse game between Sidious and the Jedi council and I really like the depiction of the Battle of Coruscant in the novel. It makes me sad that only people who speak german get to experience the masterpiece that is the german audio book of Labyrinth of Evil Edit: It should really be edited to fit with the Events of the Clone Wars and made into A Star Wars Story movies

Can this become a series were you just deep dive into battles in the Star Wars?

If I could make an arc about this in the CW I would have it follow Commander Thire and a small squad of Shock Troopers who are forced to adopt hit and run tactics against the droids since they are outnumbered

My thoughts was there ground encounters sure they had a spsce fleet engaging in close quarters but wouldnt be hard to imagine they would send a ground force to divert republic resources

Depends on what battle you’re referring to: the sacking of the Jedi temple, the fall of count dooku, the capture by the new republic or the invasion of the yuuzahn vong?

It would be nice to get a breakdown for Canon vs Legends since there were some differences. And as a viewer, I prefer when lore channels put (Legends) or (Canon) in the title so I don't have to play detective to figure out which continuity they're even talking about.

You actually get to see quite a bit of this in the 2d clone wars series where grevious kidnapped palpatine and got his chest crushed by mace leading directly to RotS

I like how the last season of TCW really puts in perspective the near victory the Republic had. I wish a story arc covered the 1st half of this battle as you did and end with the Mandalore Seige. Then we'd see that the majority of the Seperatists fleet destroyed, a major blow to the droid army, losses in the Outer Rim Theater, failed attacks on the front, and the political victory Palpatine earned. Not to mention the loss of several Seperatists Generals (Dooku, Grievous, Trench, etc.) Basically all at once.

this legit would be an awesome mini series, or even a longer series dettailing the hard fought battles throughtout star wars history, the two battles of Geonosis, the siege of mandalore from the clones perspective, and it could end the first season (which would be the prequels) with the battle of coruscant, then a second season could be the same but in the og trilogy, dettailing big battles from the perspective of other people that were not the protagonists but who had an impact regardless, maybe now that its been confirmed that that old bearded soldier in the battle of endor was Captain Rex they could make a chapter dedicated to following him through the battle and stuff like that

I want a TCW style, one and a half hour film of the Battle of Courscant just like the pilot episode that started the Clone Wars show. If they let Filoni direct it just like TCW it would 100% be a banger.

I just watched episode 3 again last night and one of the things that bothered me was after the battle, when Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi met at the Spaceport with the politicians, in that scene in the movie on Coruscant there was no damage anywhere. That has bothered me every time I've watched the movie because the battle was devastating to the entire planet and there should have been destruction everywhere.
