Why motorcycle touring two-up is like going on holiday with children 

The best way to get someone to go on the back of a bike is to let them choose what that bike is. And then make sure that every decision made is made equally by both people. It's not MY bike, it's OUR bike. It's not MY trip, it's OUR trip. Well, that's what works for us!

I am a new biker and passed my test last year aged 69, yes 69 what was I thinking 😂, always loved bikes and had a couple as a nipper but never did my test. My wife, of 46 years, has never been a fan of bikes hence why I never took a test I suppose. However, since buying a motorhome she could see the benefit of having a small bike when it`s coffee or sightseeing time when away. So, she relented. Of course I have now purchased a Tiger 800 for a bit of touring. We are now at the stage of Sunday rides out for ice cream or coffee etc. My next stage is a day trip an hour or so from home which will be soon. I don`t think she will ever consider a long tour due to a dodgy hip but hey, you never know. Great videos, a pleasure to watch.

Great words of wisdom. I enjoyed your video. My wife and love motorcycle touring. We have toured on a fjr 1300, triumph trophy and now a k1600gtl. Being comfortable is extremely important As they say happy wife happy life. If the wife is happy the trip is happy. Once again great video and stay upright

All spot on, especially the point about trust in the rider. I would also add that having intercoms helps a lot. You can let her know when you are about to gas it past a truck, pull over for petrol etc. She can ask for a loo stop and you can both chat about the scenery. No one other than the 'thick as a pudding' brigade goes on holiday and doesn't speak to their partner.

Great Video and you make some excellent points. I am lucky, my wife likes sitting on the back. I am lucky that I have owned a Triumph Trophy (very comfortable) and now own a K1600GTL which has a wrap around pading for the top box. Some of the great long distance trips that I have done are from Phoenix AZ to Mt Rushmore and Phoenix to the Giant Red Woods. One of the creature comforts that I bought for my wife was a heated vest. She loves and is happy, which makes a happy trips. Stay upright and keep touring

For 2-up, you need a reasonable size bike, yes. It's not about horsepower though.....more about Torque. My wife and I both had a great 2-up trip from Ireland, right accross Spain & back for 18 days on a Honda NC750X. No complaints from either of us 😊 and very economical 👍 The elephant in the room these days which you can't mention these days is body weight. Big people need big bikes maybe??😕 Thankfully, we sre both light of stature even at 60!!😂 Great channel mate.....

As a long time pillion…first trip out on the back of a fizzy way back when…and we’re still touring on a Multistrada..plenty of horses in it! Intercoms make it nice to be able to share what’s going on and enjoying the scenery together, though I am also referred to as the speed police😂. As I’ve gotten older I like the security of a top box rather than being a 60 something year old biddy hanging on for dear life while he bombs down the motorways. As for packing it’s pack very light and as we’re stopping in a different place every night who knows what you had on last night😉

I always tell pillion passengers not to lean back against the top box. I can understand that its being there or having a backrest gives them security but the last thing a motorcycle needs is a passenger leaning back.
