I bought mine when I was working in an office with a dress code. Shirt, tie, dress pants, no problem. I rode thousands of KM in mine. My only criticism was it was hot. I would have sacrificed a couple of potential leaks for better venting. I made a detour on a ride to go to Duluth for custom fitting. Andy (the owner) came to see me as soon as I got there, and I was treated like royalty for my entire visit.

1:30 was the moment my coffee expressed itself right out ma nose. I'd love for you guys to cover Motoport's Kevlar jacket/pant and suit. I've owned their jacket/pant combo for 20 years with a couple of get offs, one at 60mph with a long slide, and the jacket/pant has the slightest mark of the initial impact, no abrasion. I walked away without a scratch. A small headache from my helmet banging into the pavement. I chose Motoport's Kevlar over Aerostitch's suit even though the Motoport is stiffer and the Aerostitch has more initial comfort. The Motoport got softer over time and after one long trip and a couple washes is pliable. Like stiff hiking boots that take a bit to wear in, but worth the effort. I would still like to try an Aerostitch. It seems to be "good enough" protection and water resistant. The Motoport is not water resistant at all requiring a Gore Tex layer underneath. For this reason I think I will try Aerostich for known rainy/wet/cool rides and the Motoport for summer.

@@mmdetoro Over 1000 dollars is not so much. A good quality set of a jacket and pants with included level 2 protections except the spine one, with kevlar lining for abrasion protection, would be well more than 1000 dollars. This overall seem quite insufficient. 500 denier fabric is used in bags and backpacks for interior lining, dividers and pockets. For the exterior parts which must repel water, usually 1000 denier or at least 800 denier fabric is used. Quality moto gear have detachable waterproof lining. And one more thing: the denier fabric does not withstand the abrasion that occurs in a motorcycle crash. There is the kevlar fabric which can protect your skin in such situation. The idea is not bad, but without waterproofing it, I think this overal would start soaking in less than one hour of riding in the rain.

I have to admit that I've had a softspot for oilskin ever since admiring jackets made of out of the fabric sold in BMW showrooms back in the 80s. The joke at the time was that ownership of an oilskin jacket was in the sales contract for a BMW bike. I couldn't afford one -- jacket or bike -- then but I can now. Jacket I mean. It's a fine, if bulky and somewhat unwieldy, garment clearly made with an attention to details that the price justifies. Though I have yet to be caught in rain while wearing it so I can't speak to how well it keeps a rider dry. While 2k for a coverall sounds a lot, good protective gear is so necessary. Last week I crashed my bike by myself on an empty road at 30 kmph. Braked in front of a speed breaker, front wheel wobbled and I fell. I was wearing helmet, gloves, elbow and knee guards so I didn't get any injuries. Without those I definitely would've got some nasty scars since I skid some distance on the road. The foot rest of bike was broken. Always wear protective gear guys. Even if it's in front of your house and you are going the 30 kmph.

I have been riding since 1976, and bought an Aerostich Roadcrafter suit about 11 years ago. Pretty much life changing as it enabled me to comfortably ride in cold and wet weather I never would have before. Earlier this year I crashed my KTM 890 ADV R on a logging road when I failed to wheelie well enough (rear tire spun up) to clear a small wet tree that had fallen across the road at an angle. I was moving at a pretty good clip, lost the front, and slide for quite a distance on 2" crushed rock. As I was sliding I was in disbelief realizing if felt like I had fallen into the ball-pit at a McDonald's Playland. Not a scratch on me, not hurt at all, and the suit still even looked fine... just real dirty. Only down side I have found is the standard cut suit is pretty bulky in the abdomen if you are riding a super sport/super bike due to their bent over at the waist fetal riding position. But great for anything more upright. Oh, also if you are very muscular and have a larger than average diameter neck for your height, the suit could use a little more neck room when fully battened down with turtle neck layers, like polar fleece, underneath. I just lube the zippers ever couple of years and the suit today is as good as when I bought it.
@abcusa123mich
@abcusa123mich Год назад
I own one of these Aerostitch suits. It is as good as they say, except for one thing. I daily ride when I can here in Michigan, and that daily use is hard on that long zipper. When the zipper fails, the suit is unusable and factory repair is expensive once out of warranty. I've been replacing zippers once every 2 or 3 years.

Broken in, NOT using Adventure boots (I prefer Sidi Adventure boots but putting on the one piece Roadcrafter gracefully is hit or miss for me - touring boots makes it much easier) can be done in around 30 seconds. Down side to the one piece, you stop for gas and refreshments while riding in the Death Valley area, you can't just take off your jacket like your buddies. PITA. However; in really cold weather I never get a draft up my back. So I finally got a jacket to go with my pants (my first Aerostich purchase) so I can pick the right suit for the ride. One friend found out that these suits last so long that replacement parts are no longer offered (Aerostich really should put all their cuts in the computer so this is not a problem - but his suit was made before computers were a thing).

My Roadmaster leaks like a seive. Especially around the crotch. Always has. Even when new and after following the clean and seal instructions using the recommended cleaning and sealants. Yes, it's quick to put on and take off; yes it offers a lot of slide protection; yes there are a lot of nice touches like the magnetic collar clip; yes it is well made; and yes the service is quick and helpful. But it is a very expensive undersuit when you have to wear genuine waterproofs over the top.

It would be worth giving a rough estimate for under what conditions Coveralls wouldn't break through in a slide as compare to say prEN17092 AAA or AA rated stuff. Like I get saying "More protection". But it would be nice to compare to the sliding standards and other info to give a very rough estimate of how realistic it is for the "more protection" to actually matter.
@rtuulik
@rtuulik Год назад
I don't remember the slide values but some time ago I got curious and calculated the values for their impact pads. They make them themselves since the 90s. Ended up rather dissapointed. For the €1,400 suit you get barely level 1 protectors. Even their heavier "racing" impact protectors weren't that much better. In a time where you can find body armor with values less than half of the level 2 demands, I'm not going to compromise my safety and buy a substandard product like that.

First, making a garment that is better and more useful than the Klim Hardanger is as easy as (an Eskimo) pie. Klim tried and failed to adapt one of their snowmobile costumes I think. Aerostich remains the gold standard for moto-onesies, but i’ll stick with the two-piece approach for my own bike toggery. If I were a moto-commuter I would definitely get the aerostich suit - but sadly I am not such a person. At the beginning of the video you may notice a brief struggle getting into the suit. That's why im not a fan. Before you order an aerostich, I suggest trying out the concept - at the local work-duds store. Walmart also stocks these things. If you have no trouble trying it on and then riding, jumping off the bike, and pulling it off, you should have good luck with an aerostich. I, however, always have trouble. I can't explain why, but I always have trouble with a onesie.

Was a pretty big disappointment. So yeah, read the website and if you have questions call them up. They're a wonderful company but they aren't a plus size outfit :-) I made the mistake of seeing custom fit and just riding my bike up there from Texas lol. Was a fun trip even if it wasn't a success.

After getting fitted by Aerostich at a pop up store, I forked over the money and began waiting for my roadcrafter. When my suit arrived, the top was too big. It didn't fit and had to go back. When the second suit arrived, the top fit, but the legs were now too short. The bottom half of the first suit and the top of the second one would have been perfect, but when Aerostich sent the third suit, the legs were still too short. I gave up. Sent that one back as well and got my refund. Still sad about that. The service was great, the people were friendly, but I would have been happier with angry mean people who could have made me a suit that fits!

Do US viewers know that you're talking C$? The current Aerostich is around US$1650. You also didn't mention that what you weren't showing is the additional protection on shoulders, knees, and elbows which makes it even less expensive, I think. I rode with the Klim Hardanger for a a bit over a year until I had a minor getoff and went back to the Aerostich; no damage except for ripping off the leg pocket. The Hardanger started with the full vertical zip like the Aerostich but they've since deleted that. A big advantage for commuting of the Aerostich over the Klim is for commuting. I can open a zipper on either side and access my pants pockets for unlocking doors after arrival. Small but meaningful!
