WHY MY PREVENTABLE DEATH FAILED TO BE PREVENTED

Hello!
In early January 2023, I was asked by someone I've know for a little while through the Doctor Who community to interview them on a matter of most enormous personal significance. It's a topic unrelated to the television series that brought about our friendship. Not one I have spoken about before or have any prior knowledge or experience of. Nevertheless, I instantly accepted.
John White was a writer from Worcestershire in the UK, who'd guested on a previous Type 40 Extra. For as long as I've known John, he's been mentioning his concerns for his own health. And frustrations in getting appointments and consultations and therefore any answers.
In mid-December he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. This conversation is what he describes as a testimony. A chance for John to tell his story in his own words. Reach out to not just me, but you too.
Now, I'll not pretend this makes for easy listening. However, it is my hope you'll both make the time to watch and listen. Seek further reading should you feel a need; reach out to either of the charities related to Pancreatic Cancer John White wished to draw your attention to. Or any other related. And finally pass along a link to this video to anyone you feel may need it, on any level whatsoever.
My afternoon chatting to John, most of which is indeed here in this presentation, was humbling. Some who've seen it already, have remarked it was unexpectedly life-affirming and many other things. Maybe you'll find some of that here too! As the saying goes: results may vary. John and I offer it to this audience with no expectations at all.
John passed away on Wednesday 24th July 2024. He asked that the video be shared again at this time.

A fine tribute to a brave, selfless man, whose first thought was to use his own adversity to enlighten and help others. Rest in peace, John. Paul

John IM'ed me only a week ago to say he would be lying low from Facebook for a while, and if only I'd known then he would pass shortly after I would have been able to say a proper goodbye. Well done for conducting and screening this incredible interview, Dan, which should be of interest to our age group in respect of how we take care of our health and well being, and RIP John, who I only got to know in the past year because of his appreciation of my own work which he actually took the time to message me and thank me for, which in itself was an incredibly humbling and touching experience. I feel both blessed at having had the chance to get to know him, yet cheated too that he was taken at such a young age with so much to offer to the world and its great awakening now underway which John sadly won't get to experience on this earth plane, though I have no doubt he has a front row seat to witness it from a far higher dimension...

This wasn't easy Gary. I felt a huge weight of responsibility to do right by him then. As I still do now. Thank you for the comment. I was exchanging msgs with him not long before too. I couldn't believe it when I heard the news.

Thank you, Dan. Thank you, John. My condolences to his family. We are poorer for his passing yet made richer by his presence in our fan community. His wisdom, eloquence and philosophy of life touched my heart. The lion sleeps tonight, but his mighty roar will echo in our minds forever more. Rest in peace, John.

RIP John. What a warrior. I was always struck by John's excellent sense of humour, his honesty, his integrity and his thinking of others even when he was suffering. I first met John in 2020 when he gallantly defended me on Twitter, as he did so many people who were bullied and harassed for daring to air an opinion about a TV show. He was a fierce defender of free speech and justice and would go to great lengths to prove injustice had taken place. He always used a white lion as his avatar and it was pretty apt as he really did have the heart of a lion. I sadly never met him in real life but I admired and respected him greatly and I still do. I will remember him for being an absolute top bloke as well as being a die-hard Doctor Who and Sci-Fi/Fantasy fan. "We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?" You did John, you definitely did. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Thank you Dan for interviewing John in the first place and for respecting his wishes by reposting it. It is lovely to hear John's voice and as he says, it may just help somebody else too. xx

A very moving interview Dan and my sincere condolences. As a cancer sufferer myself ( it's under control) a lot of this discussion really hit home. However it was also quite life affirming . Congratulations on a sensitive chat and huge respect to the bravery and candid comment from John. RIP
