Next question. Why didn't jiraya teach Naruto ANYTHING in the time skip and kept wasting time on controlling kurama? Where was the sage mode training which would have been way more useful and safer to learn due to the Akatsuki not being able to touch Naruto in the toad mountain area. Where was Naruto learning his Elemental type? Jiraya couldn't take a single second to try the chakra paper trick? Sage mode would have been an all around better use of time. Sage mode would block the itachi genjutsu thing easier by closing his eyes. Stronger bases and when it did come time to try and get kurama in control sage mode can be used forever and imagine both minato and kushina giving him a pep talk instead of just one? Though i get it's probably just kishi didn't think about it but no narrative makes sense of not trying anything to give Naruto a more well rounded skill set.

Naruto was never promoted because higher ranks get paid more for missions. It was all about money; the Leaf was trying to save a few bucks.

One thing the anime did right was having Naruto sit down and do the paperwork to be promoted straight to Junin. Something anime original that the Boruto anime ignored for the sake of a joke.

Well... About the filler chunin exam on sand village: He could be promoted even if he loses the fight, but he didn't lost the fight, he was disqualified. So it was like he didn't make the exam at all. Besides, the most important part is: They can make some exceptions for ninjas that dont are extremely chill with his emotions, but promoting a ninja that PUBLICLY CAN'T FOLLOW THE SINGLE RULE HE WAS GIVEN (not using sage mode)... I wouldn't promote him either. This guy is impossible. Its better to keep him as a genin so when he mess up some mission bc of his bad behavior, we can use it as an excuse, instead of giving a bad reputation for the chunin rank as a whole on the village.

He did use the ninetails chakra during the first chapter. Karuma even explained that it was the first situation he was able to leak some of his chakra out because of narutos strong feelings about the situation. It wasn't alot of chakra that seaped out but he definitely did.

I think it's to serve as a sort of statement that hierarchical titles and standing within society or your profession mean nothing when it comes to your ability and how far you can go. Naruto being the stand-in for Kishimoto himself in this dynamic. It's the same with Naruto missing the hokage proclamation ceremony, that stuff ultimately doesn't matter, having a fun story and memories with your family is much more meaningful than to wave at a bunch of people atop of a building. He starts the series looking at this sort of stuff superficially as a way to force people to accept him, but by the end of the story he understands none of that social climbing is actually important.

I think the real reason was just because it didn't matter. Like, it would be a lot of legal paperwork and could leave holes that could be exploited if they made an exception for Naruto... it could put out a bad precedent.... But at the same time, it'd be a waste of time just to put Naruto through the tests... So the simple answer is just keep him as a genin. Naruto reached such a height that his rank actually doesn't matter anymore. He himself is now a legend. It's like how nobody cares about Jiraya's rank. Sure, he's a jounin, but the way he's respected and obeyed, even people of equal rank obey him. Naruto is in a position where the rank is just an empty word and won't actually change anything.... he's already a leader....

possible reason 1. he has no time to take an exam, as he busy in a lot of mission for Team Yamato/Kakashi 2. Chunin exam needs a 3-man cell, but since Naruto is the sole genin that time, he cannot take the exam himself 3. There are a lot of series of events that hinders Tsunade to promote him, especially during the time she become comatose

10:56 Im glad you brought that up, I think Naruto's growth in the time skip is underrated. In part I, Naruto's power feats were already impressive and his future power feats in part II were already a given to be even more impressive. In part I, Naruto was a brawler, relied on that hidden power and his cleverness/ability to think out the box, but that wouldn't be believably enough to deal with the threats he was going against in Part II. Showing that Jiraya's training focused less on strength and more on being a more mature, well balanced person/fighter and more technically skilled was exactly what his chatacter needed at the time to believe he woild actually become the hero he would eventually be. It's a step I felt was lacking in a charavter like Gohan's development during the Cell Saga for example. (Another strong but relatively unskilled character) Gohan after training 3 years with Goku and Piccolo and before achieving Super Saiyan in the time chamber should have shown he no longer had to rely on luck, emotion, and hidden potential to overcome powerful enemies, but that he could actually harness that power. Unlike Naruto (who also had the benefit of being the main character from the jump), I think this is a major reason Gohan was set on the path we got: someone who initially isnt up for the challenge but rises to the occasion through desperation, potential, emotion, and a bit of luck only when the plot calls for it.

After everything Naruto had done, he definitely deserved to become at least chunin. But no matter what, Hurizen and Tsunade still saw him as a weapon. And they kept him as a genin in the sake of controlling him

The plot hole only comes from the fact that at the end of Shipuden Kakashi grants him the rank of Jonin but he had to study. But in Boruto he tells Boruto he's still a Genin. Thats it. Besides Shikaku told Shikimaru after he returned to fight Pain "If Naruto has truly mastered Sage mode, hes in a league of his own."

I mean, it's pretty simple, you have to pass the chunin exams to become a chunin or show incredible skill within them and get a pass from the proctors. Plus, it makes sense for Naruto to be a genin, because maybe the author didn't want to do another tournament arc and just wanted to get on with the story. Or maybe it's symbolism with what how Naruto is. He's the unwanted underdog that surpasses expectations and proves to others that they're more than what people think they are. Idk, but that's what I think anyways.

I think considering they even joke about it in the show, it really didn't matter since it was pretty obvious that he was above sanin-level by the pain arc

. At this point, I'm convinced Naruto just wasn't promoted because Konoha's higher ups didn't want their weapon thinking it could get away with barking orders. Hell, I was sure Hiruzen's two backwards fossils of teamates had to be dead before Naruto became a Kaga. That it would only be once those two stopped whispering the wrong answer to every problem into everyone's ear, that people would notice what Naruto's actually done and rush to correct his rank.

I think you overlooked the point that Naruto became a sage. Anyone who mastered sage arts was seen alongside or just below Kage in terms of status regardless of rank. Atleast that's the theory I stick by for this.

Naruto's ability to perfectly tailor his strategies to defeat the opponents he knows is uncanny. If i were to fight my friends, much less my boss, i woudnt be able to come up with a plan as perfectly tailored towards them. Both 3rd Hokage and Kakashi was defeated by a strategy that would only work on them, and a strategy Naruto thought out then and there. I believe that if Naruto was better at collecting information, he would be an unbeat....unbeatabler ninja.

Tsunade just made an excuse that Naruto went for shadowing. Getting experience as a ninja because the cost of a genin is lower than that of a chunin. She then spent all the saved money on gambling!

Chunin was less about power and more about judgement when leading/participating in a team. Naruto lacked a lot of judgement until after the series ended.

it makes perfect sense since there are formal procedures to get a rank promotion and naruto never passed them until the end of the manga. shinobi ranking was never "how strong you are" it's formal military ranking.

I feel like Naruto is kinda above ranks by the time he beats Pain. Over the course of the story there's just not enough time for them to rank him up to chunin, they're too busy sending him on missions and whatnot to worry about it, emergency after emergency, I think promoting him wasn't really a priority. After he beats Pain I don't think anyone really cares what his rank is until the war is over, he became the Hero of the Hidden Leaf, I feel like that might as well be a non-standard title the same way Sannin is a title separate from chunin and jonin.

Hey, ive gotta ask. How was the "The Day Naruto Became Hokage" episode received? Speaking for myself, I'd been following Naruto for a decade when it ended. I got very invested in him and his Hokage dream. The way he talked about it every few chapters, whenever things got tough. And then that day comes, he oversleeps, takes his sweet time getting dressed, gets knocked out by his toddler daughter, and is forced to let Konohamaru become Hokage in his place. Gags are good, but i felt this day wasn't the place for one, any more than a wedding day is a good place for a cake fight. This chapter is the main reason why i didn’t follow Boruto at all. But i wonder if it's just me.

Your premise is wrong. In the first episode Naruto did not use the Multi-Shadow clone jutsu with his own chakra reserves. He was subconsciously tapping into the Nine Tails power through his anger at Iruka being harmed. Also canon because Kurama states later that he was feeding Naruto little bits of his chakra all along in order to break the seal. If you want to clarify facts before posting a video about them feel free to run your ideas by me next time!

I get there were logistical, political and monetary reasons not to promote him in the time since he left the village and the end of the Ninja war but I really don't get the time skip between Shippuden and Boruto I would've expected him to be promoted to Jonin right after the war as soon as the paperwork was in order.

The way I see it, he was ready in power and ability but lacking in leadership. It wasn't until after Sasuke left that he gained the emotional maturity to lead a team. Tbh I just like the theory that everyone just forgot Naruto was a Genin because he was literally the most powerful Genin *ever*

This has been my pet peeve (which I admit is a nit pick) for both Naruto and My Hero Academia. Not only do they not advance past Genin and Year 1 student respectively, but they're entire story takes place within 1 year (well part 2 of Naruto basically takes place in 1 year). It doesn't kill my enjoyment but it does strip us of from a feeling of progress, not just in power but in reaching their goal (hokage and pro hero). It makes it worse that throughout the stories, they basically get used as if they were higher rank/class. Naruto joining Danzo to the Kage Summit is Jonin work, Deku teaming with Endeaver and Hawks during the Villain Hunt arc is pro hero work, it just makes it weird to then be reminded that they're still just a Genin/Year 1 student. Like imagine if a high school freshman joins JROTC and leaves that freshman year an experienced Navy Seal.

By the end if the series Naruto is so overly powered compared to everyone else in the show he was an actual demi god. You are wrong about naruto using his own chakra to create thousand of clones.. Its because of his immense kyuubi chakra that he is able to do that.. Yes he did not use the kyuubi mode but he does use a little portion of the kyuubi chakra to be able to create and control the shadow clones efficiently.. He did that subconciously because kyuubi chakra is soo immense that it seeps out to naruto chakra reserve..

I like to think the reason naruto never got pass gennin rank is because the ninja ranking system itself wasn't thought out enough/put too much focus on it. The ranking looks too simple and misses the finer details. So the reason naruto never got pass gennin, was because the ninja ranking idea was underutilized by kishimoto.

When Shikamaru becomes a Chunin, he goes through mental training. My guess is that Naruto, strong and capable as he is, never really had time to take that training to officially become Chunin.

Powerlevel-wise he could be an Chunnin and being an Jounin if he applied, my memory is foggy, i think he was the clown and they never took him seriously (he didn't help much in these terms). So even back then, the leaf wasn't the brighttest to evaluate his ninjas (but i'm gonna give them a cup of tea, they probably hadn't ANY info of the 8 inner Gates i guess)

I think the in-universe reason for why Naruto never got promoted to Chunin was simply because Tsunade (and later Kakashi) knew Naruto very well and saw him at his worst. This is a real life bias many people have too. People usually hire workers that they only know as workers and nothing more. A parent may not hire their child to do something because they know how immature they are, and considering that Tsunade kinda pays all of Naruto’s bills, she kinda became a mother figure to him in a sense. But after the blank period he should’ve been Jonin 100%. At that point he would’ve had time to take the chunin exams and he would’ve been a lot more mature

A Chunin is supposed to have the skills to lead his team properly but what she did would be considered reckless and straight up illegal but she still got away with it and kept being a chunin. If drugging your whole team while on a mission isn't enough to get you consequences in konoha idk what is.

They were chunins and jonins right, but whenever the village gets attacked or on the brink of destruction, it’s Naruto who always saves the day Naruto may have not been the best in the Academy. He was the quote on quote worst student, but he passed all of his classmates Naruto is the best example of hard work beats talent any day of the week

I get that the explanation is regardless of power, Naruto lacked maturity or leadership skills but even then, i call bullshit. If you see the rest of the chunin exams you see Naruto not backing down against the written exam warning, motivating his peers to do the same, he showed leadership skills in the forest of death when Sasuke was gonna give away the scroll to Orochimaru, snapping him out of it when he was frozen freaking out. protected his team multiple times driving himself to the limit, and of course he outsmarted Neji Hyuga not even talking about timeskip. Tell me one scene in the anime where Shikamaru showed "leadership" abilities before he was promoted, meaning before the "rescue sasuke mission" if anything Ino was the leader in the forest of death... If Choji, Tenten and Kiba can become Chunin then fuck yes Naruto should have become a Chunin at the VERY LEAST
