The Nashville Superspeedway was not just the first win for Ross Chastain of 2023, but it also was the site of the first NASCAR weekend for NBC Sports this year as well. With how bad many have viewed FOX it should be no surprise that many were happy but it seems like over the last 5 years we have seen NBC Sports become the clear favorite of fans. Today we look into the current factors that have helped their popularity. We will look at why NASCAR fans love NBC.

NBC doesn’t have F1 type of coverage but it’s WAAAAY better than Fox. They treat every battle for the lead like it’s the final lap of the race. They even have post race shows like it was in the 2000’s into the mid 2010s.

@@noviranger239 especially since all ESPN does is simply use the Sky Sports feed which is terrible. Crofty & Brundle are horrible to listen to & Sky focuses too much on the struggles of Mercedes & how good Red Bull (especially Max) is. For those wondering why ESPN doesn't use their own commentators or send their own camera crews to races it is because they want to save money & get easy ratings by catering F1 to the average sports fan instead of the hardcore one. It's hypocritical of ESPN to do this especially since with the SRX coverage that is going to start in a few weeks, they are using their own commentators in Allan Bestwick & James Hinchcliffe (though those two basically came over from CBS when the SRX switched networks).

The post race show was really just a factor of the weather causing the race to start at broadcast start, thus allowing more time at the end. Normally we have that 35 minutes of bs before the green flag and whatever is left (often nothing) for post race. I think we'll see the typical stale formula back sooner than we know it.
@Tommy23269
@Tommy23269 Год назад
@@Tcottong I would like for NASCAR to jump right into the race kind of like what F1 does. For example if a race starts at 9am for F1 the lights is out at 9:05. If it was NASCAR the green flag would wave 30 minutes after it’s on the air.

NBC has definitely improved since 2020 but there are still things that they need to improve on. The first thing is that they need to stop booting races to cable. One of FOX’s small advantages is that when a race starts on FOX, it usually ends on FOX and not on FS1 or FS2 but if a race gets close to exceeding its time slot on NBC, it gets booted to USA or CNBC. The second thing is that they need to find a way to improve TV ratings. Although they don’t get the Daytona 500, the other races compared to FOX’s are generally lower in viewership. The final thing is that they need to have all of their races available on Peacock. It makes no sense to only do a sporadic number of races on Peacock during their half of the year. Besides that, their broadcasts are solid compared to FOX’s terrible quality but I could see FOX making some improvements in the next few years.

Blew my mind that Fox didn't show it at all or explain it all that well. NBC shows the toe links and explains them as well. Just the realization that that is what everyone was talking about on Fox. That statement alone says a lot, seeing as she's one of those people that say "Oh they're just making a left turn for the 200th time. I could do that on my lawnmower." But now after COTA, she has a driver to root for, and she's actually a little more excited for my Sunday night / Monday morning race reviews, just so she can see where her boy, Ross Chastain, finished. A bit cliche, but she likes Ross Chastain simply because he's a watermelon farmer, and she LOVES watermelon..

Honestly, even with a four-person booth, it seems NBC does less talking during a broadcast than FOX does with what is essentially a two-person booth with a guest analyst of the week. And that can be explained in two words: “Clint” and “Bowyer.” Maybe it’s just me, but it seems Bowyer tries to take over all FOX broadcasts and turn them into the Clint Bowyer Show. The NBC team seems more respectful to each other and share equally. They certainly seem to have fewer egos in the booth than FOX.

Amen! I prefer the Fox broadcasts in large part one reason: Mike Joy. Rick Allen contributes little to the coverage other than ambiguous and outrageous statements of manufactured drama and repetitive questions to the color guys that either strain credulity or are framed too basic for even a casual fan. The loss of a pit perspective with Larry Mac in the studio detracts from the coverage significantly. Steve Letarte provides perhaps the best analysis of anyone in the NBC booth. Jeff Burton, once a very clean and smooth driver, cheerleads the need and hope for some type of take out of one driver by another, e.g. "They are patient now, but 20 laps from the finish things will be different." Despite his decline, he still has infinitely more class and style than Bowyer. On multiple occasions, Bowyer will interrupt another commentator to emphasize a contrasting perspective just for the sake of it. I find this most annoying when he not-so-subtly patronizes a guest in the booth more accomplished than he. Most satisfy this standard. Moreover, he openly advocates blocking and spinning others out to the point of absurdity. In the booth, Earnhardt provides some insight and analysis, but I actually find him a far better interviewer and storyteller on his podcasts. His upbringing, knowledge, willingness to listen, and ability to have people open up to him melds so that he, his co-host, and the guest shine. Fox started to decline when Jeff Gordon entered the booth. I consider him the most vanilla and uninspiring announcer who provided minimal insight from a driver's perspective. In my opinion, the ideal booth for the time being (taken from those at Fox and NBC) would have Mike Joy, Steve Letarte, and Earnhardt (I'd still want Larry Mac in the role he serves now, also). I'd prefer the Fox pit reporters but NBC's perform well. I'd eliminate the position held that Michael Waltrip and Rutledge Wood at Fox and NBC, respectively. Their obnoxious personalities fit the role annoying well. The role, however, adds zero value to the broadcast.

NBC gas the ratio reversed of 10 minutes of racing and 4 minutes of commercials and you can actually follow what is going on. I believe the one thing that FOX has over NBC, is that they put more races on free tv, while NBC still puts half of their races on cable networks. Whether it’s a rain delay or a long red flag, it stays on Fox, not moved to FS1, and FS2, while NBC moves the race to either USA or CNBC, they really need to stop putting more races on cable, because I look at it like this, if you want to show NASCAR, fine, but when you show more races on cable channels, that shows me that you don’t respect the sport, while Fox does (despite their broadcast’s being bad). And please put every race I peacock, most people overseas don’t get USA or peacock, so having more races on NBC increases viewership, for America and overseas. I don’t like Jeff Burton’s voice nor do I like Dale Jr’s voice, especially when they yell, they need to learn to calm down.

DW is a great guy, but I watch, I want him to tell me what I didn't know or what I need to know. Jr, Burton and Letarte are doing that

@@michaellavin6417 Jeff was alright. At least he knew the cars and the drivers he was commenting on. DW was two to three generations removed from the racing and had he some of the involvement outside TV with current teams like Jeff or Jr he would be able to speak more relevant points. Larry Mac even today knows exactly what is going on because he is still doing consulting work and has put the time in to stay current on that CC's face.

I think one thing that NBC does better than fox is there pit road coverage. They always have at least 3 pit reporters at every cup series race. and I like that all of there pre and post race coverage is in person at the track instead of in a studio miles away. I feel more connected to the race.

My only complaints for Fox was Clint and the cartoon images. After Nashville I noticed camera angles split screen and a much more thorough coverage of the entire field by NBC. Negatives for NBC are Rick Alan in the booth and Dave Burns on pit road. They are atrocious. NBC needs Alan Bestwick to lead the broadcast and absolutely anybody besides Dave Burns on pit road.

NBC wins with Dale Jr. hands down. It also wins on broadcasting and allowing full function on the remote. Meaning we can skip forward and backward while we are watching the broadcast. Everyone wants to be able to replay what they just saw and micro-analyze what happened in their interpretation. Yes, I understand that they will re-play it, but I need to have some control. Also if I miss the beginning of the broadcast I can start it over and fast forward until I catch up. Please NBC do not change this!

Ive loved NBC's presentation since I first started really watching NASCAR. I remember when it was Benny Parsons, Allen Bestwick and Walley Dallenbach, those three in a booth were just amazing and made the races so interesting to watch and exciting. Im so glad to see Dale, Steve, and Jeff continuing it. FOX is just bland now, no matter the commentating rotation they just seem so disinterested in the sport these days and they add so many gimmicks into it (i.e. those cartoon profiles of the drivers), NBC on the other hand keeps it interesting and tries to keep fans invested. I have a feeling Chicago's gonna be a shit show but darn it, NBC is at least gonna have some fun and make it an enjoyable race to watch.

Ive liked nascar since I was 6 or something (so like 2011). And NBC has become an acquired taste for me. I used to not like it since it was new in nascar broadcasting in 2015 and I was used to seeing Fox, TNT and ESPN. My only thing with NBC now is I wish they could update the graphics pack, because it seems they’ve had the pylon thing since 2019 or 2020. Other networks that carry sports update theirs every 2-3 years. NBC usually lacks in this department with everything they do outside of NFL. Notre Dame football has had the same package, and NBC has had the same ones for nascar and indycar for a few years. Anyways thats my thing with NBC but the broadcasting is great

NBC treats NASCAR more like a real sport. FOX thinks they need to entertain us with some goofball antics until a wreck or fight happens. FOX seems to assume nobody actually watches for the racing. Completely agree. I haven't enjoyed Fox in yearssss. I can't stand when old time nascar fans love fox because of the nostalgia.
