The extra step of having to go out of your way to find people on your skill level to improve instead of having the game do it for you is a big deciding factor for me in the context of learning and sticking with a fighter

Yeah the whole Player Hub thing being done properly is a very new thing and requires quite a bit extra in terms of budget. Would’ve loved it for UNI but alas, they may never have such funding.

The problem with this game is its established. This is why the new player drops off. It's honestly a gatekeeper game if you think about it. The game was made for UNIEL people which is good because it's a deep, hard to play game and I want it to stay that way. Majority of UNIEL players have years of experience. As the game is pretty difficult to get into, you really can't expect the new players to stand toe to toe with veterans. On top of the that, this is a niche game with a small player base and the skill gap is way too large. There's no middle ground. It's either you're a scrub or your a pro. And sadly a lot of the pro players hunt the new players which doesn't help and will make them quit. I get a lot of high level players challeging me when I literally have 8 hours of experience with the franchise and with their 1000s of hours of experience, double perfects left and right and they keep playing you until you either leave or kick them. Its not fun and tbh I get tired of the try hards. They don't want you to learn; they want you to lose, break down and quit. And what's even more hilarious is when you do beat them once, they either rage quit or leave. Funny when the shoe is on the other foot. Also, the "git gud" shit gets old. Such a blanket copout statement that so many people throw out just to dodge an argument. This is the curse of established niche games. This is why this game will never grow sadly and why games like Tekken 8 are far superior with a diverse player base in terms of skill and size.

Thanks! Really helps to hear your experience with the game and I think many other people have experienced something similar but maybe just don’t talk about it online. I’m hoping a low pressure environment for new and casual players will emerge.

I feel like they needed to make something similar to what SF6 and Tekken8 did. Both have amazing learning tools build into it, combo challenges, standard combos to practice, practice against the most common attacks and combos of every character. Both have Moderns/Simple control scheme options made only for newcomers to get accustomed to the game before changing to the standard control scheme (I think these two have the best implementation of that option, as neither of them are actually good, their only purpose is to ease players into the game and nothing else. Unlike GBFV on which the simple control scheme is literally better than manual, no questions asked.). All of those make newcomers feel, well, welcome. Uni2 didn't even attempt to attract newcomers, like you said, it was made for Uni players and Uni players alone.

@@taigaaisaka6305 UNI2 probably has the best tutorial and training mode out of any modern game right now. This post proves you probably haven't even looked at or tried it. To say that they don't try to teach new players is a big fat lie lol

The great thing about tekken 8 and street fighter 6 is they provide a clear path for new players, you start off in the opening tutorial then go to the single player, then character guides, then combo guides, then online It feels like a rising tide that lifts all boats when I started playing fighting games I couldn’t do quarter circles or even read the or read the button notations but now that I learned the basics I can move to games like under night in birth 2

Another thing that SF6 does is allow players to be placed in higher ranks corresponding to their player skill. It evens out the skilled players from the beginners to allow those at the bottom to slowly rise up. Under Night could/should have done that.

i get destroyed in both casual and ranked, doesnt matter to me XD the worst part is trying to find a match in the first place. idk if dats a PC thing, but its bloody hard finding matches especially if you dont play at peak hours i guess. i tried hosting rooms but for some reason matches constantly get cancelled while loading up and kicking the other person. and dont get me started on crashes and stuff, tho dat seemed to be a lot better since someone told me to turn off v sync

I agree that someone who's just getting into fighting games should experience it with a friend or a friendly community but as someone who's already decent at fighting games but not too compelled to seek out communities just to get a proper taste of a series new to them, the lack of active matchmaking can be a significant con against the game.

Under Night was never meant to be new player friendly. Sure it has support, but it never stood against the other top dogs within the FGC (i.e. SF6/Tekken 8) where they want new players to come in and feel welcomed. I do love Under Night and I bought it over Tekken 8, but the game is not beginner friendly which is why the online scene for it dies out real quick. If you want this game to have new players, you have to establish a way for them to put their foot into the door; not going through extra lengths to have an experience (such as discords or locals; especially locals since SF6, MK1, and TK8 are focused on right now)
@bassrhythms3547
@bassrhythms3547 5 месяцев назад
I mean, on top of skill, there’s also the fact that the online didn’t work at the beginning AND that TEKKEN 8 came out the next day. So people will want to play the new biggest thing if the original thing they bought didn’t work

An issue i keep running into isntbat i live in an area where locals aren't much of a thing. So i try to find discord groups, and there is this consistent rule of "must have a wired connection" qnd do to my living situation that isn't possible. It's actually very frustrating, and all I can pretty much do is ranked or casual ques.

a lot of the ethernet required rules are due to the issues that wifi introduces. Wifi worked on delay KINDA bc it would just slow the game down if your connection dropped, but in rollback you instead teleport around, which will only happen to your opponent. wifi just isn’t stable enough for fighting games, where buttons can come out faster than the max rollback frames. It’s unfortunate but we really don’t have a choice since most players don’t live close enough to each other for wifi to be an acceptable option.

What an insane take. I don’t have to go to a meet-up to play call of duty, madden, Diablo, world of Warcraft, or almost any other online game. People want to get home from work and hop in some matches before bed. What a fucking joke of an opinion. This is why people stick to SF, Tekken, and MK. No one wants to make an appointment to play a video game only to get wrecked by the same 100 active players. It’s a very poor time investment.

Yea, its very strange. I feel like having alot players does help because u play other new people around your level. In tekken 7 more people played that game at the end of it's life than when it started and that game has a huge skill gap. But since there's so many players you always run into someone around your skill level. Sadly every game cant be tekken and there's a lot more that goes into it.

As long the ranked matches are people relatively in the same skill level as me I don’t mind, I even have fun losing. The issue is when games like mortal kombat are putting you up against players far outside your skill level then it makes you want to give up

Im used to getting destroyed im just try to learn with each L i take what im not liking so far is that every character has delays in there combos or weird timing here and there im used to just combo straight so this is my point of struggling also there are so many little system mechanics in this game to keep track of. And honestly finally im not a fan of the winning vorpal mechanic its hard enough keeping track of the health bars and meter of each person but now i have to look into the center as well to tell the timing for the clock and how much grd i have vs my opponent its just way too much. Any casual upon seeing how much to learn is gonna be turned off. I just think they should have cut back some of the mechanics and put more content into the game. I do really like unist 2 its probably the closest ill get to another new anime fighter in a while but i jusy think its not a good jump on for just anyone much less someone new to fighting games.
@ActivateFG
@ActivateFG 5 месяцев назад
I appreciate hearing about your experience it’s super valuable to me! The vorpal system may seem like an extra complication but one way to think about it is just a bonus gauge that continues to build as long as you block and have patience. Eventually it will be your turn and with vorpal you’ll have the chain shift (a screen freeze) mechanic to begin your comeback

I really want to get into undernight in-birth 2 (when I get the game) but I just want to play a few matches with someone whos ready to kick my ass a few times till I ask them about what I should be doing next (ask about the game specific mechanics I mean). I just want to get comfortable with a character of my choice till I want to go to the next step. And well none of my friends want to play undernight in-birth 2.

I think only time is going to tell with UNIB2. This game stands at a precarious state where it could genuinely get swept under the radar in lieu of concurrent titans in the FG industry, and FB's issues with the PC launch definitely aren't helping. Going from 3K players on launch to a very serious decline of 1K players overnight is indicative that there's a genuine problem here. I saw my fair share of people wanting to try UNIB2, experience it not working on release, form the assumption that a broken experience is genuinely just what the game is from a fundamental level. Then they go to T8 and experience the same thing, lol. I myself am a beginner with UNIB2, having fallen in deep love with it's overall design and system, and honestly the ideation of "gaming with the boys" and recognizable faces amongst a smaller pool of people is something that admittedly appeals to me.

Well, some people just want to boot up the game and play it, the extra steps just makes it more annoying. Imo, people turns to ranked because it's the only way to be matched with people close to your skill level, if you use fighting hub in SF6 you will only see Diamond+ players, same with GG Strive and the open park.
