No it’s because it’s unfinished, It has half the sports of resort but even the original, the oringinal had 5 unique sports plus the training modes while switch sports has 3 old sports, 3 new sports but 3 of these sports are the same so the game is just so boring.

The marketing campaigns are using nostalgia bait: They use Mii characters instead of the new ones and they play the part of the theme song everyone recognizes.

I think it mostly resides with the lack of Miis but I’d say that Spocco square is also the reason: people associate Wii Sports Resort with Wuhu island and ever since Nintendo used the same location as Easter eggs (like SSB and MK) so erasing such important environment and replacing with a completely different one is what killed it. Not to mention that Wuhu island feels like an incredible place to have a vacation and have fun (integrated with lore too) while Spocco Square is literally a 5 minute walk from a big city

Everyone, including myself, is just flocking back to Wii Sports. It is a much better and complete game.

They only need to make an open world game with all the sports from wii sports resort, so we can cycle around the island unlimited or canoe everywhere or just fly for as long as we want too, and we can go to certain locations to play the sports

During the first weekend of summer break, my grandparents took me on a shopping spree. The purchased me Nintendo Switch sports, a steam gift card, books, and more stuff. Got home, played the game, played it for the next 2 days, put it back in the case, then never touch it since. It been almost three months since I last touched the game. I am too lazy to setup my Nintendo switch dock again and even if I did set it up, I prefer the og Wii sports.

I think what they were missing is some elements from the old game. They wanted to attract a new audience, a new "switch" generation but forgot what made Wii sports so popular. It's not free, it's unfinished, there are no identifiable songs, and the miis don't turn around when you throw the ball backwards. So much potential.

Honestly i don’t agree with you reason’s. My reasons for why it “fell off” is because it has no recemplance to wii sports. It has the games but they had removed the casual way of wii sports. For example bowling, in wii sports you would take turns bowling, so it had a more casual way of playing (which is why the game could be played at any age.) but switch sports had made a more competitive aspect and didn’t even make a more casual mode like with wii sports. And that’s why I hate switch sports. Edit: people also played the wii sports sequels (which is not switch sports) like wii sports resort and others, so no it’s not cause we had seen it before, it’s because of gameplay.

There wasn't hype As soon as they revealed the sportsmates and the bland plaza and facilities instead of the wii sports resort island. It's not bad because it's been done before. It's bad because of how it removed most of the sports, it was rushed and the sportsmates look bad (Also somehow you completely forgot about wii sports resort and wii sports club)

Personally, the Wii Sports formula didnt have longevity to begin with: It sold well cause it was bundled with the Wii and showed the potential of motion control and nowadays they're pretty consolidated in the industry

My wife and I play bowling and golf almost every single day. It's the only game on my Switch that gets consistent play for an entire year. The FOMO for costumes helps. Also the subreddit is pretty active, too.

I disagree, I still turn on my wii and play Wii Sports. I can’t say the same for switch sports.

I think the switch just hasn't been doing as well because they abandoned so many things that made their older consoles so popular (most likely because the wii U just didnt do as well and it had alot of that stuff). They stopped using miis in almost every game, they stopped backwards compatability/interaction, and alot of their games are either poorly done compared to old games, or just effectively copies of the older games (like mario kart 8 deluxe, splatoon 3, pokemon scarlet/violet, and many spin off games). Yes, they have some amazing games like BOTW, TOTK, super mario oddyssey, kirby, etc. But nintendos older consoles like the wii didnt do well because of afew games that carried on a series, they did well because they made lots of great, well put together games that used the consoles built in features to their full advantage, like miis and motion controls.

Same with Mario tennis aces, I feel like nobody even knows about that game anymore

I played it for like 3 days lol, the only reason I bought Switch Sports is that I can complete my Wii Sports library (Wii Sports, Sports Resort, Sports Club, and now Switch Sports)

Hey. Long time Wii Sports series fan here. I've played Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Sports Club, and Nintendo Switch Sports. I love all of them, but Nintendo Switch Sports just is the best. Being able to grind and customize your character, while ranking up in the sports really increases the game's playability. Plus, there are secret gold outfits and secret gold crowns you unlock by (Outfits) beating a Powerhouse CPU/getting a super good score, or (Crowns) reaching A rank in a sport! It feels really good to collect these secret items and it makes you want to collect more of them. The game is charming and fun in it's own way, while online interactions are hilarious. The online is way better than Club, due to it not being on an undersold console on a game that you need to pay memberships to play. I feel that people are under looking how much collectable content there is. The lack of sports is made up by how fun it is to try and collect everything, while ranking up, and enjoying games with your friends. Me and my friends still play this game all the time. Been playing it since it came out. It's an amazing game. Don't let this video stop you from buying it.

I don't think it's because we're used to it, I think it's because it doesn't feel like a Wii Sports game. The main characters aren't Miis, the game released in an unfinished state with "free" updates, and the game as a whole feels lackluster from what I've seen.

TBH it was basically Bowling, Chambara, Soccer and 3 versions of Tennis (Badminton and Volleyball). We just got golf back so there’s that :\

I think that the number 1 thing for me is the art style. They should’ve just kept Resorts Style, just HD and the same mini games plus new ones, and a different resort island.

Even if the game flopped, I still play it pretty frequently. Though it’s been done before the game is fun, and the progression via the ranking system as well as the prizes in online feel really well done

You know what, I realized that there is a HUGE difference from the past consoles to the Nintendo Switch but they only care about money now and not what makes people happy. Like there is no themes, no bg music, paid online games, you get the point.

It fell off for me because it felt like I was playing the same thing over and over again everything being online play only and the fact playing alone isn’t as enjoyable unless you pay to play online and that it was a more softened version of Wii sports the ranking system also being online only the fact that it just lacks everything that made Wii sports and Wii sports resort a legendary game

The game also simply does not have the charm that other Wii Sports games had. It removed Miis, and seemed like a downgrade from games like Wii Sports Resort that had more quality AND quantity. In fact, this game made me appreciate Wii Sports and Resort even more than I already did.

I think their was more hate that if you had to choose between Wii sports resort and switch sports, Wii sports resort would absolutely be a better choice

I haven't personally played switch sports but I often find myself digging out my Wii and Wii sports or Wii sports resort (mainly Wii sports resort) and play for hours maybe I'm just weird though

Although, I wish that there was a better game selection in general (baseball would be fun). I mostly play golf, so thats what I found to be the most fun. I want a Wii sports Wii sports resort and super Mario sports mix remake they could’ve bundled those together and then possibly afterwards released a new Nintendo switch sports but had new games and new variations

Why the game failed. 1.Not making minis the main selling point and replacing them with sports mates that are very limited with designs. 2:Half the mini games are just the same,there's like 4 original ones and 4 that are just those with sight changes. 3:Lacks any charm or care to quality.
