And with a population density of just 12 people per square mile you might begin to wonder, why do so few people live here? My parents and I found ourselves in Spearfish one evening on our way to Minnesota in 1954 . Dad stopped at a gas station to ask where we could find a hotel or Inn to spend the night . A man got up and came to our car and told us there weren’t any rooms in town but we could follow him home and put us up there ! In the morning his wife fixed us breakfast and the family refused to take any money for their hospitality! I’m 76 now but never forgot that !

In the Horror movies no one makes it after following someone to their home to stay the night . or they wake up without a liver or kidneys ! yea I watch to much TV , well used to gave it up 4 year ago, politics was getting the best of me, and I do mean the best of me , bad a man have chest pains just watching the news so now I say to hell with all of them im done with it . and havent had no chest pains. it was 6 months later before I knew Biden was President thats how far I pushed them out of my life. when local elections start I put sign in driveway that says go to next house and tell them your lies ,and they do .now im just a hillbilly that dont give a damn for nothing except my cat , pretty much sums it up for me

Just because you like sports teams, weird big city food and other urban "amenities" doesn't mean everyone does. Talk about being judgemental! Yes I've been to South Dakota, and I loved it. I spent most of my life living and working in Chicago and the metro area. I loved the food while there and was a rabid sports fan of all its teams. I was born and raised in Sioux Falls and moved back here 9 years ago. I spent most of my life in dome of the biggest cities and think Sioux Falls the best. Not too small and not big at all, even though it’s growing like gang busters. The food here is good enough for me with plenty of fine restaurants. I don’t miss the professional teams in Chicago but still feel an allegiance for them. One thing about Chicago and Illinois is it’s corruption. It’s the worst kind that destroys everything. It’s one reason I left and glad I don’t live there anymore.

I was just on a 8 day road trip and spent 2 days in SD, and the best meal we eat was in SD. and the roads where good, example a normal 2 lane road in my home state, was a nice 4 lane road with hardly any traffic in SD and on I-90 we stopped at the cleanest and nicest restroom ive ever been to. And I forgot, gas pices wore almost $1.50 less per gallon then my home state. Now that said, I rather live somewhere warmier in the Winter months. And Menards also have stores in SD.

In South Dakota, when you gets asked "Who's your favorite Basketball team" by your relatives who live in another state, you answer "The Ethan Girls are looking to be really good again this year... and on the boys side I'll still be going to most of the Kernels games", because you watch the local kids play, buy their merchandise, and the best part is when you are at the games you run into everyone else! :) Winters are cold... stay inside and enjoy the games!

When it comes to food you must be from the city. In South Dakota if you want good food you go hunting. Like with a rifle, shot gun or bow. Then you cook it yourself. Mule Deer, White tail deer, Antelope, Turkey, Pheasant, Quail, Ducks, Dove, Rabbit, if you are real lucky Bison and Moutain Goat. I grew up in Sioux Falls in the 50s and early 60s. I thought it was paradise. Plus, Black Hills was a blast. This video is interesting but makes the state look like a living hell. Been living in Illinois ever since 63.

Every northern state has "pothole season". The thaw during the transition from winter to spring chews up roads.

If you're a selfish moron who only wears the label of Christian instead of acting like one and you don't mind freezing and sweating along with the smell, sure. For someone brain dead and without any physical senses, its a great place for a coma. Source: SD native for 35 years.

My Daughter is moving to Watertown in a few months, it looks like a nice area, as long as you don't live near flood areas. Geez, if you want excitement live someplace else, but if you don't want the heavy excitement of big city/suburban area, this could be a great place. I personally wouldn't move there because of the snow, had enough of that nonsense.

Watertown is actually very nice. Close to Brookings (college town and good concert venue), Lake Madison, and relatively close to sioux Falls. Just she must be very cautious driving I29 and in the winter, especially.
