This feeds into North Korea’s nuclear goals by enabling technological developments and gathering funds for ICBM programs. The recent bolstering in legitimate military capabilities has emboldened the Kim regime to take on a more aggressive military stance. North Korean leadership on January 15th 2024 called for an amendment to their constitution that would change the country’s priority from reunifying the two Koreas, to simply saying South Korea is their number one enemy. That seems a bit unfair because the United States worked really hard to hold that number one spot for as long as we did. In all seriousness though this is a pretty major move when it comes to international diplomacy. In 2019 Korea's president, Moon Jae-in proposed to Kim that they should try to reunify their countries by 2045. Those peace talks didn’t end up going anywhere. So if peaceful reunification is off the table that means forced military action is now their other option. But if we think about this realistically, Kim wouldn’t even want to capture south korea even if his wildest dreams came true. He would then have to somehow control a population of 50 million south koreans to his 25 million. It’s not even in the cards.

taskandpurpose.myspreadshop.com/
Here’s what Kim had to say “The reunification of Korea can never be achieved with the Republic of Korea” He then simultaneously shut down three government agencies that oversaw reunification efforts, namely the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification. On the off chance we still didn’t not quite get the message, just days after the call for constitutional change, North Korea’s famous Arch of Reunification was torn down. The monument was considered an “eye-sore” by the Korean dictator. Proof that Kim is worse than your HOA.
This abandonment of the idea for reunification is actually a significant break in the traditional talks from North Korean leadership. Both Kim’s father Kim Jong Il and grandfather Kim Il Sung always viewed the South as an “object for peaceful reconciliation, but now the tables are turned, with South Korea itself being the target for military action.
Many experts tie part of the current rise in tensions to the breakdowns of negotiations in 2019 at the Hanoi summit, when President Trump and Kim Jong Un held extensive talks. The February talks were unexpectedly cut short, due to disagreements on lifting sanctions on the DPRK. The United States claims the North demanded the lift of all sanctions, while Korean diplomats claimed they only wanted five removed, but the end result was a cascading effect leading Kim to assert that their international goals in the region could only be met with warfare.

China actually fears NK nuclear weapons, as any use on the Korean peninsula will, at a bare minimum, affect Chinese fishing fleets. Fall out is bound to hit Eastern China. Since PRC propaganda highlighted last year's release of wastewater from Fukushima (which Chinese scientists signed off on, as the risk is really low) a lot of Chinese citizens bought Geiger counters to test their fish for contamination. What they discovered was that their homes were made with radioactive materials and their rivers were also radioactive. So now China has a bunch of citizens who can test for radiation independently from the official propaganda. Thus any use of nuclear weapons on the Korean peninsula will set off a panic, no matter how the government spins it.

Well and also triggering an international conflict, because China is still dependent on Western commercialism until the new silk road is fully established. But yet if they let North Korea get demolished without doing anything, they lose a ton of face to their people and allies. I served two tours on the DMZ in South Korea during the 1990s. Every year at this time Operation Team Spirit is held which is a military exercise that prepare allied forces to defend S. Korea from an attack by the north. During the preparation phase/build up to the exercise North Korea claims that the U.S./South Korea is preparing to invade them and starts rattling their sabers and issuing threats. This happens every single year.

its all irrelelvant given the DPRK doctrine. DPRK doctrine, which the DoD released, is not to conduct conventional warfare. DPRK plans to grab as much Urban territory and hope that either DPRK or ROK will sue for peace. South Korea has more to lose than North Korea in a war. Having an infestation of civilian clothed DPRK soldiers in the urban metropolitain of Seoul is devestatingly hard to fight. Every day the ROK remains in a war where Incheon, Seoul, Suwon; Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do shut down ... ROK economy will crash. 70% of ROK GDP is concentrated in those areas and will be virtually inoperable until the DPRK is removed.

People in the west overlook that any war in Korean is primarily of concern to Koreans. This is not 1949, and the South has been preparing just as long, and are an advanced military power now. Plus, who do people think has a better idea of what DPRK's war plans are, and knows how to counteract them? The South Koreans, obviously. While the US is tech-obsessed at how to defeat NK's weapon systems, the South has a personal stake in the outcome, and maybe more importantly, which NK general might be willing to bump off Kim Jong Un and make a deal. Remember, Koreans are not video game NPC's, they are people.

Incursions into South Korea from the North have been common since the armistice. When I was there between 1995 and 1997 (U.S. 8th Army), there was an average of 1 infiltrator identified every other day and small skirmishes on the DMZ about once per week. By skirmishes, mean brief episodes of a little shooting back and forth and maybe a mortar round or two. Usually, nobody got hurt. Sometimes, though, it was substantially more. It is policy to hide and downplay these events, in support of the mission. I have personal experience with this when we tried to get medals for a number of 2nd Infantry Division soldiers after a pitched battle, one time. Gen. Timmons (Under Gen. Gary Luck at the time) specifically denied them on the basis of supporting the mission in Korea--maintaining the free flow of commerce. Such things have impacts on markets.

As far as I know, EMP’s are produced when it’s an airburst, not when it’s underwater
@osric1730
@osric1730 3 месяца назад
EMPs are produced in every nuclear explosion. They just don't travel as far at ground level or under water. Nobody cares about the effect of EMP on systems that have been vaporized by the blast in any event but it still happens. So for maximum EMP effect a nuclear weapon is detonated at altitude which has the effect of not causing any significant blast damage but maximizing EMP effects over a far wider area than a blast radius.

Japan's navy isn't going to be a game changer. Yes on paper Japan's navy might seem to be a huge factor but it really isn't, in fact in wartime it might be more of a nuisance. Japan's military isn't going to make a huge difference especially considering their constitution prohibits them from waging an offensive war. Meaning they are to be useless unless for some reason China decides to fight them. EVEN if the Chinese decides to attack the Japanese first, Japan is going to get the worst end of the stick as their economy is not going to be able to outlast the Chinese economy. That's why I say that Japan's military isn't their most important weapon. It doesn't matter if they have the 4th largest navy or whatnot because what's the point in having that when you can't even use it nor outlast your enemy. The US is going to have to pick up the slack for the Japanese. Kim wearing a leather jacket, slow motion (not filmed in slow motion, just slowed down the video) taking off his sunglasses and looking at the camera like a "very cool person" would do is so unreal, I actually had to look this video up. And oh man, did not dissapoint. It looks like crappy commercial that Cathy in accounting cut together for her part-time multimedia class project... in 1997.

I have a brother who’s a liability plaintiffs attorney. He had a case against Farmers once. He was originally seeking $15,000, the amount of his client’s bills. Farmers, really did not want to pay it. So much so, that they hired an attorney for $48,000 just to send a message that they weren’t going to pay the $15,000. My brother took it to trial and got his client $60,0000. Shit like that, is way so many cases settle w/o going to trial.

12:50 “…underwater nuclear tests which could cripple [South Korea’s] infrastructure with an EMP…” I believe this is incorrect. EMP effects are caused by nuclear interference with the earth’s magnetosphere, and thus mush be very high altitude detonations. Correct me if I’m wrong.
@letopizdetz
@letopizdetz 3 месяца назад
All nukes create EMPs, the less matter they interact with the further they travel. The higher you go, there's less matter to absorb the blast, and more charged particles available to be knocked around. The end game is popping a few nukes in the lower Van Allen belt which is already filled with high energy charged particles. It would could take out all the satellites in a cascade of dead weight shrapnel.
@Penultimeat
@Penultimeat 3 месяца назад

There are language barriers. There maybe differences in doctrine, tactics and procedures. This is different from NATO, where it operates under a unified common set of rules, doctrines, and tactics. Joint operations with countries outside of NATO may vary from country to country.. Plus while NATO has a unified operational command structure, it may not be that way with other countries. Would American forces operate under the command on the host nation's forces? Or would their be 2 distinct command structures? If that is the case, there's has to be a comprehensive plan of coordination and deconfliction in order for them to work together. This has to be worked out and practiced through military exercises. There is also the political aspect too.

@MountainFisher
@MountainFisher 3 месяца назад
Oh prior to both World Wars? Problem with what Jesus was talking about was _Who_ He was talking to. He was talking to the generation then alive. He kept repeating when YOU see these things then You get out of Jerusalem. He didn't say They to imply us. The generation then alive saw everything He predicted in Old Testament Apocalyptic language and His disciples who were Jewish would have recognized it as such. Daniel's 70th week occurred in the first century, it is not separated from the other 69 weeks of years. 3 1/2 years of Jesus ministry to Israel and in the middle of the week Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross put an end to the Temple sacrifices signified by the tearing of the Veil from the top to the bottom as recorded in priestly writings of the time and by Matthew. It also says that desolations would be determined and the very last words Jesus said to the scribes and Pharisees was, “Look, your house is left to you desolate” and later the Jewish crowd demanding the crucifixion of Jesus declared, "His blood be on us and on our children!" (Matthew 27:25). While Pilate was trying to release Jesus. The second half of the 70th week was the ministry of the Apostles to Israel until Peter received his unclean to clean vision and took the Gospel to the Gentiles. Now only a remnant of the Jews enter the Kingdom. It's pretty bad when Jews think Isaiah 53 is from the New Testament. Jesus was speaking to that generation then alive and that has been the standard interpretation until John Darby came along and destroyed a pretty straightforward and easy to understand interpretation with his Dispensational pre-trib rapture nonsense.That generation had not passed away when Vespasian and his son Titus with the Roman Army destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple. Jesus did return in vengeance upon Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple leaving not one stone upon another. There isn't going to be a 3rd Temple nor a 7 year tribulation. There have always been wars and rumors of wars, nothing new about that.

Good work, as always. You identified the dream scenario for Kim: a Sino-American conflict over Taiwan. That's the best situation Kim will get, barring any other unforeseen development that dramatically alters the strategic situation for the US. Whether this situation is good enough remains to be seen. However, the acquisition of a large and serviceable nuclear arsenal on the part of Pyongyang limits the ability of the US to compensate for a shortfall in conventional capability with nuclear threats. RUMINT has it that back in the days of Desert Shield, the movement of XVIII ABN Corps to the Gulf prompted a flurry of military activity in North Korea. President GW Bush sent a leader-to-leader message acknowledging the temporary US vulnerability but promising nuclear action if North Korean forces crossed the DMZ. This would help explain the North Korean nuclear program culminating in a successful test less than 10 years later. Pyongyang wasn't going to miss another such opportunity. How the US would react to North Korean nuclear saber rattling in the midst of a conventional war against the ROK is unknown. A great deal depends on who is in the White House at the moment. That didn't used to be the case. Now we live in a world in which it is hard to say how the next POTUS might react to a situation in which China and North Korea were pressing conventional operations in the Far East under their respective nuclear shields.
