Considering that the shaft of the dart is made out of wood it means they are very delicate addition of a broadhead may be a mistake and may result in complete failure if u miss ur target or if u hit something like a tree or rock the thing is yes u can kill with it but it's a one way go as soon as the dart hits something other than flesh it's gonna break on impact and if ur glue doesn't fail the shaft of wood will split unless u shoot it with minimal power and don't put much speed in it the thing is that u can easily turn a steel wire into a dart with either field tip by just sharpening it with sand paper or broadhead by smashing the head with hammer until it's flat once it's flat u cut a triangle shape with wire cutters or cutting pliers just make sure for the hammered tip to be thin enough for it to be easier and once u get a triangle shape just sharpen the sides with another rock or whatever as soon as u get some edge on that broadhead ur good to go just put a cone at the end of it and ur good to go u can than proceed to hunt with it this may seem like a lot of work but I guarantee it's way more worth it than putting broadhead into the wooden skewers because steel darts are reusable unlike skewers wich may break after few shots and u can't do anything about repairing them the steel darts can easily be resharpened once u get the edge or point dull by Hitting rock or something so yeah I hope this helps
Besides if ur worried about losing the dart than just put a contrast color on the cone so it's easier to see where it went I too lost some darts shooting them at a tree for practice now I only got 9 left I used to have like 14 or 13 I don't remember that well
Some cool ideas u can try is connecting the blowgun pipe to a air tank so that u put more power into the darts this method is very dangerous if u are irresponsible and what I mean with irresponsible is basically if u point it at people even with wooden darts only because u basically have connected an air tank into blowgun u made a airgun wich is capable of easily penetrating ur flesh in and out as long as it doesn't hit bone I made a air tank with small plastic water bottle and basically just pumped it with bike hand pump once I connected a ball valve as the trigger mechanism and the blowgun all together the power I got from that with steel dart was absolutely ridiculously insane I had a thick wooden plank for practice and it was able to penetrate almost all the way through the wooden plank I also made spud gun with butane and connected the same blowgun to it as barrel but I never got as much power as with the airgun I could penetrate through the thick wooden plank with the spud gun but the tip would only come out a little bit and when I tried shooting a tree with spud gun and steel dart I has to use a stone to cut through the tree in order to pull out the dart I even shot a broadhead steel dart into a tree with same spud gun and i thought it would be harder to pull out but it was actually the same kinda anyway these are just some cool ideas u can try building yourself but just be careful and always when testing make sure u get cover and never test it yourself just tie a string into the trigger and pull it from cover for safety purposes I've shot my spud gun for so many times simply because it's more satisfying to use and more close related to a firearm than the airgun but at the beginning I used to wear always thick gloves when pressing the trigger in case the bottle would not. Handle the pressure however after like 10 first shots I get comfortable and started shooting it without taking cover anymore after 30 shots I proceeded to remove the gloves too when shooting it now I think I've shot it more than 60+ times or something I didn't count after that anyway
i CAN JUST IMAGINE SOME COMMENTS that you get. This was my life as a kid. Now retired at 65, me and my friend (since 1969) are leaving on an extended survival hiking trip. That's why I found your channel. Profession Engineer but also a snake catcher whilst holidaying in the African bush. Favourite is Puff adder for dinner.
Thank you for putting this up. And thank you for putting down the bird after it got away wounded, though I hope you tracked and put down the others properly. I decided hunting with skewers would be inhumane after simply seeing the penetration difference with my own darts, but this really hammers the point home.
They did better than I expected. I have hunted with them using a number 11 hobby knife blade broadhead, backed by a half inch brass tube ferrule for weight and FOC, but never just the bare skewer. For birds I use carbon steel nails with flattened and sharpened tips. It makes for about a 1/4 inch razor sharp cutting edge. Penetration is very important, but cutting and rapid hemorrhage is what brings them down quickly.
Thanx for the video. What steel are you using? I’m struggling to get good stiff steel shafts.. I have tried the bamboo shafts with broad head blades, you must have very sharp blades because the darts is to light for proper penetration… steel is better
Hello I am a person living in Korea. I like your video very much. I would like to live in an environment like yours, but it is impossible in Korea. What country do you live in? And isn't hunting wild animals punishable by law?
