When finding a place to live dont look at the cost of living. Whatever job you find around the area, you will match it, dont worry. Find a state or place that you feel comfortable in. This isn't hard. Dont move to a place because its cheap, it's a reason why its cheap. Move to a place you dream about.

So true. I'm so tired of hearing people complain about the "cost of living" in places. There is always a reason for prices in this country. Let's be honest: all the "affordable" places have serious drawbacks. It is better just get the bag and live where you want to live, how you want to live.

Dollars are becoming worthless gradually, so if you hold property or hold you’re better off! They just keep printing more while not dealing with the housing crisis and supply shortage that causes the inflation! They walked us to war with Ukraine and put sanctions on the third top energy producers (Iran, Venezuela and Russia) tried putting price caps on Russian oil which alienated the OPEC. No uranium or fertilizer from Russia, so lower yields and more expensive food, fuel and transportation which will make everything more expensive!! Only if the US used diplomacy instead of belligerence, bombs and sanctions!!

Here at least some reasons that I can think of why people leave Texas: 1. The weather (particularly during the summer) 2. The traffic and terrible drivers particularly in the big cities like Dallas, Austin and Houston 3. The pollution of oil and gas companies (some Texans have breathing problems thanks to the pollution) 4. The rising cost of living in big cities (particularly Houston, Dallas and Austin). 5. The politics (if you are a Democrat or Independent who leans Democratic, prepare to be politically frustrated). I had a Democratic gay friend who is an accountant who lived in Texas for 7 years (summer of 2016- summer of 2023) and left for Colorado in June of 2023. The election in 2022 was his final straw. He no longer feels safe [particularly from gun violence] nor welcome [he knew a few people who picked on him for being gay or liberal {mostly the latter}] in Texas. He is now happy in Colorado.

The one issue that’s hard to deal with besides the traffic/ horrible drivers is the summer heat. It’s hard to deal with.

I moved to Texas in 21 from Chicago. I like alot about Texas like no income tax, no sales tax(groceries), laws on guns. That being said I still want to move back to Chicago? Idk why it doesn't align with my political views but I just miss it so much. I can not stand the summers here and the weather sometimes is extreme. Don't get me started on the food, it sucks here. Also somehow the traffic is waaay worse here then in Chicago. How is that? I think mainly the infrastructure is not ready for the population increase.

WE CAN HELP YOU PACK, and although I'm a Native Texan & have lived in the past in Pennsylvania, Chicago, West Coast, East Coast, South, & back to Texas. Our state of TEXAS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. Where on earth did you eat breakfast? It looks like you're a little down from Seaport Village, maybe near the Marriott. Yes, that area is very pricey. But, for heavens sake. That is not the norm for breakfast prices. Most breakfasts are under $10.00. You're just trying to live the high life. We lived in Texas for over 20 years. Moved to California almost 20 years ago now and never looked back. It is NOT that expensive. You also forgot to mention the high cost of electricity in your "great state ". I’m a Texan. I lived In Burbank,Ca for 19 years and moved back to Houston in 2021. Texas is very different than when I left it in the early 2000’s. Many people have moved to Texas making it congested in the city areas. The traffic has vastly increased in the last 2 years alone. People are coming here having sold homes In expensive places like California and are driving the prices of houses up. The congestion on roads and insane drivers who are often rude makes driving stressful. It didn’t used to be that way. Also the once friendly culture here is changing into a more impersonal one because a lot of non Texans don’t share the same friendly ways and are rushed and self absorbed. I’ve also noticed a lot of trash and litter along roadways and we didn’t used to have that. In the more rural areas the crime is lower and people are more laid back but the city isn’t.

Living in California and wouldn’t want to leave if it wasn’t so expensive and near impossible to own a house with decent sized yard! Texas is attractive for affordable homes with big yards, lower cost of living, no state tax (but higher property tax) and good economy. The house I’m looking for is probably in Texas, because in California you ain’t getting and acre of land unless you go to steep mountains or far away places where there no jobs!! The whole hosing cost to income ratio in the US is out of whack right now! We need at least 50% drop to make it realistic! Politicians are bickering over nonsense instead of addressing real problems the populace are facing. Rising cost of living, stagnant wages, degrading job quality, de-dollarization, division and disunity, increasing wealth gap and shrinking middle class!

In comparison with Phoenix and Las Vegas, Texas's Summer is warm. Also, the Summer heat in Dallas metro is dry heat. I lived in Miami, FL and Hawaii before the humid hot make you feel so bad! Even though I don't like Dallas, I do like a cute city in northern Dallas surburb called Frisco. Frisco has excellent school system with (1:14) teach/student ratio. Frisco has so many things to do ( lots of events such as sports, country music awards etc.). It has a big city look ( tall buildings) with country style living close-by. It is a very diversify city like most Caliofornia cities. It has PGA American headquarter, universal studio, Dallas Cowboy headquarter and more. Most houses built in Frisco are big and less than 20 years old which is different from California big cities' "historic" home.

I have lived in 7 different states in the country. Texas is #8. What I can tell you is that there is good and bad in every place. We've been in TX for 3 years now and still adjusting. This is unusual as I typically by three years am fully integrated into my surroundings. Texas is different.#1 I am still highly frustrated with the drivers. They are so distracted. They can't handle a 4 way stop or even go when the light turns green. People driving huge trucks think they own the road......and I guess they do. Beware uninsured motorists. Better have insurance because most of the other people on the road do not. #2 no police presence. There are beggars on every street corner. People run red lights like they don't exist. People on their cell phones while driving.Violent crime is unbelievable. Every day on the news multiple people shot. I can hear gunshots at night. #3 Un reliable utilities. In three years I have been out of electricity more days then the last 35years in 4 different states. If you want reliable AC, CABLE TV, INTERNET .......do not move to Texas you will not get it here. When a leaf falls, the electricity goes out and it's out for days. #4 The cost of living is high or just as high as other places and they have terrible groceries. Produce sucks, cost of groceries is not great. I know everyone loves HEB but they obviously have not shopped a lot of different places.

@@VIPRealty my point is 3% property tax in Texas is too high for retirees. Around 1% property tax rate is common in many other states.

Yup ,he may say he's from TX, but it seems like he didn't compare to the state he's giving claps to of being better (California) 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣.. that's a joke of the being better than TX. I'm NOT a born texan, but LIVED in DIFFERENT AREA'S of TX. And in the lower south AREA'S like BROWNSVILLE where i lived most my life good (20 yrs) and atleast a good (3 - 7 yrs) .in DFW, 3Yrs in LAREDO. 1yr AUSTIN .1 yr in SAN ANTON . 4yrs in HOUSTON. NEVERRRRR have i experience an EARTHQUAKE 🤷🏻‍♀️,some hurricane 🌀 or tornado 🌪. But mostly rain part and heavy winds. Little damage. Yes, it is very hot with climat change ,but then again that's everywhere in the world. Yes, on rental increases. It's becoming very high every 6 months It goes up & groceries as well. i'm originally born and raised 5 yrs in BALTIMORE MD. and rather not be in brownsville because of the weather and i have seen judges, police officers, lawyers, and ppl. Get away with innocent & honest ppl. Sent to jail or forced to pay fee & fines that should not have been applied to them. Looks like F.B.I. needs to come back to brownsville and do ANOTHER RAID ,the last time they came seems they left a couple of judges & lawyers & police officers still doing tons of illegal arrests & wrongfully prosecuted.. and as traffic yes, itselfgotten like any other big city that'sgrowing ( in comes lot'sof traffuc) it's same in Cali. 🤷🏻‍♀️. 😢.but that's solely what I have experienced in my lifetime till this day in brownsville TX.

Texas is better overall, no doubt. However, as far as weather and landscape there is no comparison.

I see a lot of comments are about the crime but if you don’t put yourself out there nor hang out in places you shouldn’t be you don’t have to worry about becoming a victim. Yes you may have the random crime where you become a victim but those statistics are very low.
@ladymadame7646

Very low? I see on the news everyday innocent business owners and tax paying citizens being victimized in the way to their cars, banks, or even in there own driveways

I was attacked and physically assaulted by strangers inside a grocery store in Texas. The police closed the case in a few days because of "no evidence," although evidence was plentiful. This is how they keep "low crime" statistics.

California is beautiful, but traffic is horrible, the way people drive is just as bad and the cost of living is high even in the hood. But like he said if you can afford it by all means move out here if not, RUN! Lol

@@VIPRealty Really?Oklahoma is the 3rd most popular state that Texans are moving to. Way less people/traffic/congestion. Lower housing prices and cost of living. I've lived in LA since '78. This place isn't the same today, not by a long shot. And median home prices here are heading towards $900K. This is insane! Crazy gas prices. Homeless encampments popping up everywhere. For people that aren't wealthy, just having good weather isn't cutting it anymore. It's such ashame. What a great place it used to be. Me and my wife are going to check out Oklahoma at the end of this summer. "According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 26,440 Texans moved to Oklahoma in 2022, making it the third most popular state for Texans to relocate to that year."

@@18andlikeit I don't know about those stats. OK would be one of the last states I'd move to for quality of life. I agree, its not expensive. However for me there are more items on my list besides cost.
