I am a born Canadian and didn't know what I was missing until I travelled. In warmer places, the streets are alive - men playing checkers in the streets, shopkeepers standing in the doorways chatting with their neighbors, and the energy is just buzzing. Here, our streets are dead. Our culture is dry and undefined. Cost of living and taxes are crushing. People are isolated and disconnected, sealed up in our airtight, cold-proofed homes. Winter recreation is expensive, so you either go broke or go bored 6mths of the year. The produce is tasteless. Most Canadians are spiritually blind, unhealthy, addicted to substances, and overworked. 65% are overweight and everybody is depressed and anxious because our lifestyle is just absolute garbage. There are good things too, obviously. But Canada is not the promised land for all people!

Well I already left the Canada last year after having lived for 5 years. I am in my early 30s , south asian immigrant. I had a good paying job. I left because more so because of the social isolation and the pandemic measures. Plus I feel most Canadians may seem polite , but not friendly as in - extremely hard to make friends. Ethnic groups stick to themselves and don't mix. I found dating to be extremely hard and toxic. People have high individualistic mentality and don't open up. I am now in working in Mexico / Latin America and my mental health has greatly improved. I am able to socialize and women here aren't as stuck up as in Canada. Real world interactions are valued here unlike in Canada where it's all about the apps and social media. Also who doesn't like some good consistent sunshine. Overall , I am happy to have left Canada and am not coming back.

Very happy to hear that you found your calling in Mexico😀 I do agree with you on your social isolation points. It is definitely hard especially the last 2 years with the pandemic. But I think things are getting slightly better this year and hopefully will start moving in that direction sooner!!

I left two months ago. If you exclude safety, there is nothing good in Canada. The health system is a disaster, people can't find a family doctor, people need to wait 3 to 6 months for an appoitment with a specialist, 6 months cold weather, low vitamin D and bone pain, stress, expensive home prices, high tax (income tax+ gst+ carbon tax+ ...), quality of food extremely bad, no taste in vegetables, nothing is fresh, expenisve car insurance in GTA, .... Because of bad quality of food and because of the lack of sun, I can tell you that you will have a lot of deseases when you reach 60

@@ItemOwner Happy for you. Paying taxes to this country for 4 years, then I made a summary of my journey, realized that I have not achieved anything despise hard work and other sacrifices. Nothing is really interesting in this land. I recognize that even a new graduate in South East Asia has more activities and more vivid lifestyles than most people here, even though we cam from developing countries. In fact, great opportunities in Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore right now if you have proper college/university education

Well, canadian healthcare is broken, you not only have to wait for treatment in emergency dept but u also u have to wait for more than 20 hours with life threatening condition in canadian hospitals, and the sad part is u cannot pay for ur surgery bocoz of some canada act. In canada one cannot own land, becoz all the land in canada is crown land. one can only lease land in canada. Crime is really high in some big cities and it is really not safe in canada. May people do proper research before moving to canada. Your life is more important to u and ur family.

I am a born Canadian and after being here for almoat 50 years, I am waiting on my US spousal visa to leave Canada for good. In the last couple decades Canada has changed so much that I don't recognise it anymore. I am not a proud Canadian and would highly discourage others to move here. You will never get ahead or own a home here. Our health care system is not as great as our government says. This has been much more prominent now due to the pandemic over the last several years. It's near callapse. As a citizen, you have no right to protect, especially a woman. The only reason why the Canadian government wants immigrants is because they need more people to pay taxes to help keep the social programs going such as the Child Tax Benefit or even CCP ... don't get me wrong, I use to love Canada and was a very proud Canadian. But it is definitely is not the same Canada I grew up with in the 70's and 80's ... I had to sell my house after 8 years because I couldn't afford it anymore. For those considering moving to Canada, I would recommend staying here for at least 6 months to give you a good idea if you can make it ... don't stay here for those 6 months as a visitor but live here - I do understand one can't work here while visiting, but you can see how basic living is and do research while here about work. Talk to other Canadians who have been here for 15 plus years to get a better idea of what living here actually is like. Don't believe what the Canadian goverment tells you on their website.

I cam with dreams end up with depression 😔 You can't make it even after 10 years of hardworking full time. The government officials are total jerks, fake good behavior ... Bottom line Canada is good for salves, please think thrice before moving!!! Hunger is better then salvery!

After living in here (Toronto and Halifax) for more of thirty years I find that the only reason anybody would live in here, happily and content, is if they are coming from a country at war. Other than that, one realizes, very soon, that trying to make it here with a family with children, it is virtually impossible. A family of four (with two adults working) should be making an average of 80.000 canadians dollars to more or less make it. In the event you don't reach this amount, you are living really bad. When one doesn't bring that amount of money to their home, one and their family, are consuming the very same stuff that makes the Americans so fat. On the other hand you have the expenses related to living in a country that has a very long winter, where one has to considered (and pay for it)the cost of staying warm during that time; keeping warm in here it is not cheap and it runs for most of the year. Forget about going back home to visit your relatives, let alone bringing them here. All and all, even if one comes from a very complicated place, this country only offers opportunities to the ones able to bring something valuable for this society, the rest of us are just cheap labours despite our education from back home. Here in Toronto I been driven around by taxi drivers with a degree in science, medicine and engineer (I talk a lot to them). I even know a guy from Africa who was giving lectures in math back home, who had to resort to pick up refused metals to make a living, besides being able to work part time as a tutor in high maths for university students. This country, once an amazing one, is going down the drain and many people, eve the ones born and raised here, are leaving it. Wake up Canada, your own people don't have faith on you any longer. Greetings from Toronto.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I concur with you that Canada should be doing a lot to get well educated immigrants into good paying jobs vs just doing labour work. Just like you, I have encountered Uber drivers who have such high qualifications that I was wondering what is wrong with this country. I hope you have been able to navigate through all the hurdles and are able to live better in Toronto. Strength to you my friend :)

Are you seriously going back to India or was that a joke? Seems like Indians move to US via TN visa once they get citizenship. We are most likely moving to the US from Canada (Born here) but it's because of housing costs and we are older now (40s) so the joint pain from winter is very hard to deal with.

The Montreal newspaper of December 2, 2022 Quebec - Canada Info-Sante: Quebec calls on retired nurses to the rescue No short-term improvement in emergencies, admits Dubé The Quebec Health Minister Dube on the defensive The current crisis in Quebec hospitals was at the heart of the very first parliamentary contest in the National Assembly since the elections. The Minister of Health has been the subject of crossfire from the opposition parties, which are demanding tangible results in the health plan of the CAQ. “There are 30% of parents who hang up on pediatric 811 because they have no service. There are 16% of people who leave the emergency room because they have no service!”, railed Liberal MP André Fortin. According to him, these figures show that the minister has simply failed. Not to mention the list of patients who have been waiting for surgery for a year and more, which has not diminished, despite Christian Dubé's promises. The latter has undertaken to reduce this threshold by the spring to the pre-pandemic level, that is to say to 2,500 operations. Currently, there are more than 21,000 patients on this list. “He reduced the list of patients waiting for surgery in Quebec by exactly 0%, zero. In fact, the list, it has increased. So, until now, his target, his commitment, his promise on the surgery waiting list has been a failure,” added the elected official from Pontiac. Minister Dubé claims to have recently met with medical specialists, who have undertaken to “update” the plan in the coming weeks to reduce surgeries. With the variants of COVID-19 and the many viruses in circulation, the summer period was not conducive to catching up on operations. “We have to strike a balance between the hospital beds that we use either for emergencies or for surgeries. And when we have problems like we have, at the moment, with emergencies, it is sure that the surgeons suffer from it”, he insisted. Surgeries in numbers Total number of patients awaiting surgery: 160,869 Patients waiting for a year or more: 21,066 *Source: Ministry of Health dashboard dated November 5, 2022
