Happy Friday, all! Today we're chatting about the important role of animals for the support of people, like me and so many others, who suffer from chronic pain and/or mental illness. Companion animals are known to be extremely beneficial to humans by doing things like lowering our blood pressure and reducing feelings of loneliness. Animals are being abandoned and left stray because of the epidemic's wave of panic. Please don't take for granted what your animal does for you, and if you don't have an animal--consider adopting if you think it's the right time and a good fit. Please see the resources below for more information on how a pet may be just what the doctor ordered!

Cecily thank you for reminding me how much my animals have been there for me during my chronic illness. I’ve had my dog for 13 years. When I was diagnosed 2 years ago I know she sensed something was wrong. She wouldn’t leave my side. I’m so thankful for her love for me and the love I feel for her. She’s a precious gift from god. My husband and I last year adopted to feral cats. Brother and sister . They are solid white. I couldn’t understand why my husband did this because I barely had enough energy to get what needed to be done. But I soon fell in love and they make me laugh and entertain me when my husband is gone. God works in mysterious ways for our lives. I’m so glad that your cats make you happy and give you a reason to want to care for them. Thanks for the video. I really needed this one today. Your so wise beyond your years. This is your calling. Reaching out to others to encourage them. Thanks again sweetie ❤️

I've had 3 surgeries since November. After the last surgery, my cat jumped on my bed and laid down next to my left hip. The hip I'd had surgery on, normally she'd lay at my feet. She somehow knew.

I'm in Southern California and so many people have been adopting animals around here that some shelters have emptied. I've been in and out of hospitals since November and every time I came home my kitty would sleep with me for the next few days. She's sleeping on my bed as I type.

Omg Jodi, that is wonderful to hear! It makes me so happy that people are adopting animals where you live, and I'm sure that your kitty has helped you cope during painful days. I think you and your cat are equally blessed to have found each other.

My little angesl came to me when I needed them most. After going through chemo and radiation, I had severe damage to my bladder and intestines. I wound up having many surgeries and nothing helped. I eventually had to have my bladder removed, and then wound up having to have a double barrell colostomy. I was devastated. After fighting cancer and going into remission, I was so happy....only to have that happen. I fell into a deep depression. One day my partner went to a friend's house to fix something. This friend told my partner that he found a cat who he thought had been abused. It ran in his house and was under the bed hiding. He was TERRIFIED. So, my partner, knowing I love animals, brought him home. He was a scruffy, beat up tomcat, grey with stripes (tabby). Since he was a tomcat and grey, I named him Thomas Grey (Tommy for short). He hid for a week and refused to come out. I was bedridden, and one day, I see him peeking over the side of my bed. He did that for a while, and then one day I was particularly depressed and started to cry, and he suddenly jumped up on my bed, walked up to me, and started licking my face! He curled up in the crook of my arm, purring, and he has done that every day since. He melted my heart and I love him SO much! He literally changed everything for me...... Now, I just adopted another kitty who appeared in my yard. I noticed she was very fearful, and discovered she is completely deaf. She was so hungry, but was spooked by anything that moved. I eventually gained her trust, and now instead of being in the cold and being deaf, never knowing if a predator is coming....she is safe on my warm bed with Tommy, and I am so happy they are in my life. Like you said, taking care of them gives me a purpose!!!

Can you please consider doing a follow up video about the difference between therapy pets and service animals. Thanks 😊 #gutsquad
