I can't tell you how many times I've had to defend my passion of buying physical media to people who simply stream all their media content. People have loss all appreciation for the power of ownership and true lossless media. Why solely allow large corporations to dictate what media you consume? I truly do think the consequences of exclusively ''renting'' media will do more harm than good for the future of humanity.

Great video. I'm a 20-years old anime and movie collector and like other people have written in the comment section before, I too have to defend that passion of mine. Streaming may have its advantages, but it will never be as good as putting in a disc, falling into that world of that menu while you browse the menu, start the film... and you get to see the ending credits without getting interrupted by Netflix "Hey, do you want to watch this next?" after 5 seconds in. Thanks for listing the pros, I fully agree.

As someone who has been surrounded by DVDs since I was able to walk, I can say that I love physical media and im very disappointed its not used in everyday life anymore. My mother was poor and couldnt afford internet and the cable often went unpaid so DVDs were the norm despite the internet being used by so many households, I was born around when DVDs were going through their downfall during The Great Recession so DVDs were very cheap and easy to get a hold of, me and my brothers loved them! watched them day in and day out on our dvd player and went down to Xtravision (blockbusters) once a week for a rental and let me just say it was the highlight of the week. Now that everything is online and the cinema industry is even facing a downfall I just want to say I am very upset at the way the world now treats physical media. Physical media, whether its VHS, CDS or DVDs will always be the superior format and no one can convince me otherwise.

My dude, I have been saying stuff very similar to this for years. Another good point is: internet outage. If the Net goes out, streaming is useless. Streaming is good if you've never a movie before and want to see what it's like and then buy the Blu-ray. Not a problem with that. But if you want to keep your movie, support the physical release. And I apologise for the crassness of this expression, but it speaks volumes: Money talks and bulls**t walks. Keep getting physical to make money, they'll make more of it. Also, Physical Media accounts for at least $2 Billion worth of revenue. Streaming takes a $1 Trillion. But $2 Billion is still $2 Billion.

Actually, physical media that you have can be taken away from you. I remember one time years ago (long before streaming was even a thing and we were still using VHS tapes), we went out for a while, and when we came back, our house was broken into, and many things were taken away! Among the items taken was my Super Nintendo (which actually didn't belong to me, but to my grandmother who was letting me borrow it for a while) and all the games that came with it. Those were all physical copies, but they still got pulled.
@TheWellRoundedDude

I'm sorry that happened to you, but that's theft. Which is illegal. Not the kind of takeaway we were discussing in the video.

Don't forget the part where you need a internet connection at all times but with physical media you never need an internet connection. Also don't use the argument that you can download media from the streaming service I know you can do that but 1. you still need to pay a monthly fee in order to watch your downloaded media 2. You always have to use their app to watch downloaded media and 3. Some streaming services don't even allow you to download media for offline viewing unless you pay for a more expensive subscription

I've started going to my local thrift shop and picking up DVD's. Some DVD's look great, others appear far too compressed. The worst seem to be ones presented in a very wide screen format. The closer they get to a standard TV 16:9, or old full screen 4:3 format the better they (often, not always) look in regards to resolution and detail. I'd love for someone to explain why this happens?
@TheWellRoundedDude
@TheWellRoundedDude 2 года назад
My guess would be that they are older dvds and the movie would have been filmed in standard 4:3 ratio. So its in its natural resolution on dvd, that might be why. But that's just a guess. Thanks for watching!

And they are all in a media tower that occupies a 2' x 2' space on my floor, almost 6 feet high....and I NEVER worry if a streaming service edits a film (for woke political correctness or any other reason) or drops it all together.... There is a freedom about owning these movies, And there is a bit of also being an archivist as well. Although I have great internet, its not at all a concern when I watch a film. And Top Gun 2 sounds AMAZING on my 7.2 Atmos system with speakers in the ceiling.... There is ZERO comparison to owning vs. streaming. These apples to oranges comparisons are dishonest and misleading. Obviously, a Blu-ray is gonna offer a higher bitrate than a stream, but you could own the same movie/episode as an uncompressed file on a server/computer, without having to clutter your apartment with shelves upon shelves of plastic discs in a plastic case. OWNING drm-free content? Sure, I'm all for it. Stored on physical mediums though? Hello no, why would you.

Not to mention the possibilities you open yourself up to with Plex and whatnot.
@TheWellRoundedDude
@TheWellRoundedDude 2 года назад
Well respectfully, I disagree. What I stated in the video is true. But what you're suggesting can be more of a headache and costly. An uncompressed 1080p file takes up a lot of space on a hard drive, not to mention 4k files, I personally have a large movie collection, what size/how many drives am I gonna need for a 300 plus movie collection, not to mention TV seasons. That starts to get expensive real quick. Not to mention if a hard drive fails, you lose your files. This is why physical media is better. It's more cost effective and reliable to the method you are suggesting. So to be clear, I'm not against what you're saying, but it adds a bunch of cost and complication to just enjoy a movie and that's not worth it to me. Thanks for watching.

@@TheWellRoundedDude 300 4K Blu-ray (and I doubt your collection is exclusively 4K) movies would roughly equate to 10TB give or take. An HDD that size is gonna set you back $250-300... how many physical Blu-ray is that? Maybe 10-15? Hardware failure is a valid point though.

Physical media is lightyears superior than streaming. I started some buying VHS tapes & DVDs just for the sake of nostalgia & the fact that I'm just rebelling against this nonsensical streaming culture & I genuinely do think that streaming shit whether it be on Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, etc, is all just utter peasantry. I just got my VHS copy of a Anime called "Project A-Ko" & boy I am MADLY in love with it! I'm not gonna buy a massive library of VHS tapes & DVDs because I'm only going to buy the ones that are just sentimental for me. There's several Anime VHS tapes & DVDs that I am looking forward to collect & pretty excited about it as well.

Gotta disagree friend, streaming is a great convenience, that's the only edge it has over physical media.

I'd disagree. Streaming is the equivalent of yesterday's cable. Soon there will be too many packages, and people will go back to square one which is physical media. So unless you're paying it for convenience, it's a waste of time.
