The reason I always come back to Guild Wars 2 is that no other MMORPG comes close to matching the sheer joy that simply traversing the world brings me in GW2. No other game provides that "log in, start running/gliding/jumping/flying around, boom, you're immersed in content with a bunch of other people" gameplay loop. It's awesome.
Yep yep. I don't play mmorpg much anymore (gaming in general) but when I feel it, Guild Wars 2 is way to go. I'm no near end content but I can just jump in and enjoy its 5v5 PvP with no gear gap, run around map and random fun events find me (last time it was rolling mount race). Quests are also engaging but I don't even need to focus leveling or end raid to have fun. Just got an hour of play? You got yourself a fun hour.
I think something extremely cool is the fact that you can transform gold into premium currency at an ok rate. MEANING YOU CAN BUY EVERYTHING TOTALLY F2P! And it's actually doable. Ah, yeah, you mentioned that xD
GW2 was my childhood game, always used to play it at my grandma’s after school, when she passed my grandpa took over her account and almost my whole family plays it together❤
I played at launch for some months. And I just returned a month ago, and I'm having A BLAST! This game aged like wine; I'm having a lot of fun, and there's a lot to learn. The community has been lovely, now I want to find a guild! Your videos have been super helpful, thank you so much :3
I have played many MMORPGs in the last 20 Years. I've played ESO, WoW, Black Desert, Aion, SWTOR, Tera, Runescape, Everquest, LotRo, Metin2 and many more. Guild Wars 2 respects your time. Old Content is still viable for you to play and that's why you will meet players EVERYWHERE. No dead Zones. No dead Events. GW2 has by far the best mount system in every MMO i've encountered. Every Mount has it's purpose. And GW2 has BY FAR.....BYYYY FAAAR.... the best and friendliest Community ever.
As long as you agree that you don't GET time to game, you MAKE time to game and only the player is to blame for their lack of time-management skills if they cannot.
Tbh i just installed guild wars yesterday and thats the first video i watch , your voice makes me feel comfortable and idk y , anyways if i become addicted to this game its your misstep : )
I bought the game at release, and it took me 12 years to finally get into it :D Lv65 mastery thief. When I realised the size of the game, I got all expansions ASAP 😇
Great video ! But on a personal note most of those are the reasons why I haven't bought the latest expansion and played the last one MAYBE 3 hours or so lol... No gear grind , is probably the main reason why I kept dropping off , and the difficult open world (expansion zones) is the other one :p (in mmos I like to get good gear to feel powerful and with no gear progression if something is stomping you , it will keep stomping lol) imo the peak gw2 was vanilla , even had 2 characters with 100% exploration absolutely loved it , but with expansions the story telling changed , adding more and more elite specs which takes forever to unlock fully , and once I did every time I logged in I was wondering why do I even play. And personally I'm a solo player in mmo's so group content does not interest me , so I did what a lot of people do - kept creating alts :p with every expansion a new character and since I already had quite a few it meant buying the exp version that gives enough gems for char slot :P and honestly leveling in vanilla zones was always fun but after 80 and starting to unlock the new spec and I'd fall off again quite quickly , I even bought the previous exp on launch just to get the easier skyscale (never had griffon (ran out of gold about half way through the collection and then just cba) or the skyscale before) but didn't even make it that far lol . Saw the video about housing and tempted to buy again , but I have a feeling I would drop off even sooner this time , plus between work and the new wow expansion probably wouldn't even have time and with no gear incentive probably not worth it.
Whenever I take a break from the game and think about coming back, Lanarity's vids always pop up on my feed, which give me a huge motivation and remind me of the reasons why I started and like this game, truly a masterpiece of an MMO
I just rolled a new character last night Feb 2024 and there were TONS of players in the noob starting zones. I was surprised just how active it still was. You def will not be alone. Players still showed up in mass to random world events. It was a lot of fun!
Downloading it for the first time. You've gained a new subscriber here, friend. This game looks awesome, I honestly got chills while you showed the WvW mode.
I can fully agree with you saying that gw2 is your go-to mmo. I play gw2 since 2012 my grandpa bought me the game then so we can play together with our guild we were in. I was 13 back then and had a shit computer which barely ran gw2 and after nearly 12 years and like 3 new pcs guild wars 2 is a game which is always installed on my computer even when I don't play it for months... But my problem is there is literally no mmo for me which can compete with gw2 so I'll come back and choose a goal like a new legendary and play this game even if it's alone, since my grandpa stopped playing it.
As a new player i was kinda skeptical dumping 100€ for the expansions plus living seasons , but i dont regret doing it , i been playing for couple weeks and i am still in PoF. Past few days all i been doing is WvW lol, even though i am not good at it i have a lot fun roaming around as harbinger , ye not sure if is the best class for WvW but i love it
GW2 is definitely one of the most fun MMOs I've played, but thats mainly solo. I've had too much trouble finding PvE group content that is in the sweet spot of being difficult enough you can't just run past foes (Looking at you fractals) but can still be played without needing to min/max my build (mainly by just stealing one off the web) and without needing to stick to a rotation (I like playing the game on the action MMO side of its hybrid combat system). Hopefully there's just something that eluded me, but I don't know what that could be.
I know the comment if 5 months late. But as someone that gets into GW2 in little bits here and there, it's great to see where it's at this year. Watched this as it was patching. lol.
i'm surprised you didn't say anything about the story! in my opinion, core story up until the end of heart of thorns (the first expansion) is a bit boring. but it picks up in living world season 3 and the story quality has definitely improved as the game has gone on (except for icebrood saga due to covid). in the newest expansion, secrets of the obscure, the story is going a whole new direction since the previous story arc ended with the end of dragons expansion. so now is a great time to come play the story! you have hours of old story content to catch up on (if you even want to) and you can also start this new journey with us all. see you in tyria!
Same. I literally just left a comment on someone's video saying it's my "go to" MMO. I stream it a decent bit. Already pre-ordered Janthir Wilds for Aug.
jeah i liked gw2 alot , ive playd over 25k hours but stopd after the last expansion i think i ve seen everything gw2 has to offer , but i cant wait for gw3 :D
After being burnt out on pretty much all the titles, i decided to come back to gw2, due to its "play at your own pace" mentality. I was quite lost at the beginning due to all the new systems i had to figure out, just when i was close to giving up, I discovered your channel, everything was so helpful and fun to watch. So I'd say, your channel is one of the biggest reasons to play gw2 in 2024. Thank you.
Watching this video reminded me why I fell in love with GW2 when I first started playing. Now I can't help but come back and play again And WOW do your hours compare better to mine, 12000 hours, jesus! Time to come back and grind!
It could also be worth pointing out that if PvP is your thing, it doesn't require gear in instanced pvp (not WvW) and is accessible from level 1, so you don't even need to level up a character in order to partake in that activity (you can even level up your character that way) while being on the same level as everybody else.
Smart thing to do in GW2, have 1 of each race, there's a few achievements that require certain races to do. I've been playing for around 6-7 yrs now, just now getting started into legendary armor and weapons. GW2 is my number one game. Cheers :)
Loved the vidoeo and it inspired me to give guild wars 2 a try you laid everything out perfectly and I even sent the video to my buddy because he's also interested. Thanks for the great video!
Thank you so much ma'am for this amazing guide about the game. I've now opened all your links in the description, to learn as much I can while I download the game. I just want to tell you, thank you, for your time to explain everything in details for us new players. Take care
GW2 is always such a nice thing to move back to, whenever other MMOs burn me out. its also a great game to play on the side, as someone who plays FFXIV daily, whenever i feel like a pause, im always happy to see that GW2 has no monthly sub. :D
Another good point is that if you're a Linux user, or only have a Steam Deck to play games, GW2 allows playing it through steam proton, unlike Destiny 2 or other games that ban you for running it through proton compatibility layer. And the Steam Deck run's GW2 quite well, with the exception of noticeable frame drops on large scale battles you can set it up to run at 60 fps on medium/high settings for the most part, the only issue you will probably find is terrible lag/performance on the launcher in the SD "gaming mode" but if you setup your account for auto login in desktop mode it should jump straight into the game in both modes.
Funny, that clip from westfall wow was where I literally just logged out at. considering not going back so thats why I started downloading guild wars 2.
Guild Wars 2 is best known for 3 Major things: 1: The MMORPG that respects your time the most. 2: The MMORPG with the largest scaled spectacles and group events. 3: The MMORPG with the best Mount, Character and Combat animations.
If me and my wife started playing, would there be old content we would have trouble with as a Duo? Would love to see a video that expresses how a player can go through old content. I played for the first 5 months of the game and an expansion was an uncertainty at the time
Easy, engaging, full of action EVERYWHERE you go = fun for me! At the end of the day, after playing all kinds of MMO since Ultima Online I realised one thing - fun is all that matters. No carrots on a stick, no daily chores, no rep grind! JUST. PLAY!
Returning player here, will log back in after being 8 years offline. Had great days in the RoF server with my guildmates at Pain Intended. Yep, time to dust off the Jade Avenger.
Please scale your video to 2k resolution and then upload. It makes yt take higher quality option and the game footage doesnt look pixelated and it looks crisp just like how you see it when u play it.
Much about the exploring and traversal "metroidvania"-argument falls apart once you have the skyscale. GW2 has such awesome mounts, most of the made redundant.
Thanks for the video! I'm looking for a healthier option to WoW. I've played for like 20 years and now that I'm a dad it's just not logical to try and force myself to keep up. I'm excited to start my GW2 journey :)
I always come back to GW2. Although its been some years since. I haven't played another one though. Its been on my mind heavily. I want to juno back it and play so bad
I played gw1. Paid. Was fun. Love the idea of mmorpg. Im now 31 and i cant keep up in fps. Thoufh it's tough stomaching price tags for what ifs.. With travels plan to crack a cold one and try diving into this again..
I played it just a bit few years ago, planning to return to this in mid summer after i get some stuff done in ff14 and some single player rpg's i didn't finish yet 😊
Charr are my favorite race. I have an engineer running a ranged Jade mech and have been rocking it since... Probably gonna make another charr with either a pet focus like ranger or necromancer and maybe one with a focus on melee (not sure about the melee part though)
Overall, the game's current state is characterized by a significant portion of content being accessible and easily completed through repetitive resource & event grinding. Challenges are primarily concentrated in raids, which are no longer actively developed, and fractals, where difficulty fluctuations pose a noticeable issue. Dungeons, designed in 2012, have become outdated as leveling content, and the game's power level has advanced beyond them. Strike missions, akin to mini raid boss encounters, lack complexity, with only two or three excellent exceptions. On a positive note, the game offers opportunities for players to showcase their creativity by dressing up as their favorite cosplay or original character. While the game enjoys financial success and maintains a substantial player base, there's a prevalent sense of shallowness that becomes increasingly apparent over time. Despite its commercial achievements, there seems to be a need for deeper and more engaging gameplay experiences to enhance the overall player satisfaction and longevity of the game. The game's grind appears to be strategically designed to encourage players to convert gems to gold as a shortcut. This design is particularly evident given the emphasis on cosmetic items. The system seems geared towards incentivizing players to invest real money for in-game advantages, primarily in the form of aesthetic enhancements. While the game maintains a stance against directly purchasing power with real money, the presence of shortcuts through monetary transactions is notable. Players can leverage real money to obtain the best gear in the game and expedite the grinding process for them. Although direct power may not be purchasable, the existence of these shortcuts raises questions about the balance between in-game achievements and the potential advantages gained through financial investment.
The fully free base game has the same restrictions and limitations for play that the game had on launch, one that doesn't exist if you buy even one expansion. Those restrictions also go away the moment you get even one character on your account to the point where they no longer apply, from what I have seen. Of course, it's been a LONG time since I needed to worry about that, since I have been playing the game off and on since launch. Some of those restrictions it originally didn't have, but with the base game being pure F2P, while you still have the buy the expansions (which are cheap individually, and getting the first three as a bundle is basically buying three games for the price of one). Not something I have had to worry about in a long time. The game is very casual friendly. Yes, getting the best stuff takes a lot of time and requires an investment of time and effort, but all that stuff is also not required. I will admit, I never did raid content in GW2, but a lot of that is because I largely got burned out from raiding in WoW and dealing with the gear and content treadmill there. That, and I never really cared about the meta and just worked on getting something that worked for me to do most content and still have fun. I got a friend into the game recently, and have guided her through the base game and the first two expansions. Skipped LW S3 to go into PoF, so she can start getting more mounts and also get them improved. Gonna take her through SOTO and do the (much easier) Skyscale grind for it, before going back to Dragonfall to complete THAT one (and likely after EoD content and doing LW S3) as well as map completion so I can run her through the world boss rotation. But GW2 is one of those that is fun and more. And the community is fairly chill and there are few toxic players. Mostly in SPVP, which tends to attract such in any MMO, and even then, they are the minority.
After playing almost all Soulslikes and cRPGs, I want to try an MMORPG. The art style of GW2 looks very appealing to me, I think this is the right choice for me.
I haven’t played it in years. I did enjoy it a lot when it came out. Played GW 1 before that and tried somme other MMORPG. Back in the day I thought it had the most innovative gameplay. seems like that hasn‘t changed?!
I played GW2 for about a year on launch then moved on to other things, but lately I've been feeling the call to come back. I left because (at the time) there was virtually only one build/gear set that every single person HAD to have to be let into any group because it was the highest damage and most efficient build. You would get kicked if you didn't have it, and the game didn't allow for any build experimentation. I really hope it's not still like that.
I took that OSRS shaming personally. Jokes aside, I love this MMO so far and it beats the hell out of WoW's stand still fighting. Even though I like ESO's PvP more, the gear grind is endless and I just can't f*cking do it. Thanks for the recommendation.
Just started playing again after not playing since heart of thorns, I never enjoyed the combat much before because I was a huge fan of guild wars 1 but came back into it a week ago with the mindset that it's a different game, give it another shot. Been enjoying Mesmer which I never played before. Love the videos, thanks for making them.
I kinda wish I didn't start with GW2 back in 2012 since I got burnt out before all the DLC and changes were made over the years. I feel like if I started with something else like WoW first I would have more of an appreciation of what GW2 does differently but instead it's the opposite. All the reasons people like GW2 more are the reasons I've had a hard time trying to come back. Wanting to experience tradiontal side quests and the grind other games offer instead of being spoiled by GW2.
I usually go back and forth install the game remember, that my main is an Celestial Elementalist so no one will have me for raids, then uninstall the game again. I really wish they would make the Elementalist more viable to play in raids they are like miss one step of your combo there goes 50% of your DPS oh and you must play berzerker build to be "viable" thus no one wants them as they are too squishy and unreliable and die all the time...
yea Spvp community is toxic when you play not perfect, also it feels like balance is not good... some proffessions are easy to win with. others are swety to perfom mediocre...
I’ve played a lot of GW2 but I can never main it. I feel like I can only stomach it in bits. I think one of the main thing is the lack of a trinity(which is crazy cause osrs is my favorite mmo). And I hate that there’s no auto dungeon finder. The second is the amount of currencies it’s just overwhelming. The third is is graphics’s and how the abilities looks. Animations just seem really lazy. Like everything is a circle on the ground. Other than those 3 things everything else about the game is phenomenal
The new daily login rewards system is trash and the wvw alliance system made the wvw worse. GW2 is a nice game and I play it from the beginning, but with these changes, the game is beyond his peak. Play the story, enjoy the atmosphere, and run into dungeons and fractals.. that all we have left.
