True this is what is going on here by us 🇿🇦.....then you get a political parties like the DA (Democratic Alliance) and FFPlus (Freedom Front Plus)....who objectives are to fight for the status quo to remain so that they can hold onto the privileges they gained during Apartheid.... Even if it means continuing of excluding us who are still economically disadvantaged they don't care they will fight to keep it that way no different from the National Party during the days of Apartheid. ....but us as the majority of 🇿🇦ns should keep pushing back against the likes of the DA and FF plus but at the same time hold anc accountable too for what they have allowed since #1994 ....and still continuing allowing currently.

That’s true, we South Africans will fight crazy amongst each other racially but please don’t even try to involve yourself in our business and be a know it all or try to misrepresent or disrespect us, we will come together in all racial groups and take you down. We can be petty too when you start with us, we will finish it. Love that you enjoy and understand our cultures so much…we do enjoy American culture but we also have our cultures, which we are fiercely proud of as a rainbow nation. SA is far from being a perfect or cohesive nation but you’re right, it’s happening slowly and it will take time, but the will is there and we have the tenacity to make it happen. This is honestly one of the best and most unique countries you’ll ever live in, we know this and we’ll protect it and build on the foundations to make it better, thanks for contributing positively to it Aunt Ash💕🇿🇦

Hi Ashley, I've been following your posts for a while now and I find your takes on our country so interesting. When I was younger I always wanted to travel and maybe even work overseas, but as socio-economics have changed globally and I'm older, I find myself being grateful for my blessings. Even as South African, it's difficult to explain what we have here. With all the disparities and divides there is still a sense of unity, as you've explained. We've seen some dark days, in our past and even in today's age to the point where we ask ourselves "why? what are we even doing?" But then we pick ourselves up and get on with it! Maybe it's our faith that keeps us going? But we fight and challenge our circumstance, because if you don't - for some people this means you will literally die. Thank you for sharing a different perspective❣xoxo from Cape Town

Ashley, you emotional intelligence 🔥 You are sociologist, whether qualified or not. Black Americans have formidable social capital, and only Americans themselves can ruin it, I'm glad you mentioned using this social capital responsibly. Black Americans are just not appreciated in America, but outside America, they command immense social capital; Nigerians commanded the same respect and admiration, and then they ruined it for themselves (now they are acting like victims). Black Americans are socially conscious, which will only grow this social capital they command. You have done well for yourselves, to survive so much and come out commanding the world's respect. I'm a White American living in Cameroon. Racism is real in America, I grew up with it being born in early 50's. I've been in Cameroon since 2017, mostly the largest problem I have is the locals think Americans are all rich! Sure, my retirement makes me very comfortable here. But if I were in America I would be struggling as many do who retire in America. Yet, education is lacking in this country, especially in the Anglaphone section where war has caused many schools to be burnt down. Amazonian fighters, Boko Haram, have been responsible for a lot of unrest. When a country has a lack of educational opportunities, this lack will have a very bad effect for the whole next generation! As is true with any 3rd world Nation.

When you look at the situation of Australian Aborigines, Native Americans, New Zealand Maoris, Canadian Indigenous ppl, you realise how lucky you actually are to have been born African..you come to understand that genocide could have happened to us too. You have to interview the black SAfs themselves to hear their side of the story. There's been a long history of suffering and oppression where they had everything taken away from them, and now they try to find their culture again after much destruction through colonialism and Apartheid. Not justifying anything, but there's a background and a context to take into consideration.

@@UltraMella identity theft or not, the girl was a baby at the time the crime would have been committed. The level of her participation in this alleged crime did not warrant the way she was treated. But they embraced the European descendant winner of their competition. To me, it appears that she is simply shedding light on why she departed and is offering free and generous consultation to folks who are considering a move. I challenge you to reflect on why 1) you are continuing to view her content in spite of her supposed “emphasis” on critiquing America and 2) you take issue with it enough to demand she stop doing it. If you are like me, it’s likely coming from a place of American indoctrination/colonization and toxic loyalty (think Stockholm) that the US empire has never earned from you. You brought up the efforts of freedom fighters in America’s history as if she was dogging them and their efforts which as an African American, i deeply resent. As a middle class American of color, l have visited South Africa just as l’ve visited a few other European countries. At the end of the day, no country beats America for me. Maybe because l do have sufficient income, a lengthy legacy of American-based heritage, and cultural pride in what my family has amassed as Americans that l feel this way. Listening or reading narratives taken from bygone eras when most of us weren’t even born and/or haven’t directly experienced is becoming commonplace and dangerous. America is not a monolithic country in terms of ethnic grouping, socioeconomics, education, religion, or anything else. The ethnic and multiethnic diversity alone needs to be acknowledged, understood, and accepted. The unrest among segments of the American population is usually caused by differing socioeconomics in certain communities regardless of skin color. The economic base needs to be improved in such areas, especially in the large metropolitan environments that receive the most media coverage. 🎉🎉

Black South Africans are in a better and more privileged position in terms of their power relations and dynamics with their white counterparts than their black brothers and sisters in the States because of political power, numerical superiorty/advantage and a sense of place, identity and belonging. Our responsibilty is to use this wisely by transforming the skewed economic relations that exist in the country inorder to get the country moving and increase the black middle class. Black South Africans and Black Americans are the two largest black middle class groups in the world in the two largest and most developed economies in their respective brackets namely in the world for the US and in Africa for SA. Their shared historical idenities and experiences of racism and economic exclusion should forster a greater sense of purpose between the two groups. Black Americans have an opportunity to invest, collobrate and make money in Africa and South Africa especially because of this. Its up to them to take advantage of what being American means and what being black American means in South Africa. Dialogue and concrete collaboration in various sectors needs to be cultivated in ernest. The reason why white people all over the world are able to mantiain the same standards of living and economic power structure is their ability to connect their economies through the colour of their skin. Maybe you and I must organise an empowerment and collaboration Indaba between black South Africans and African Americans in order to really move this proccess from a mere social media conversations to something more tangible. You already have a platform that addresses this, the benefit of collaborating means that some of these conversations can easily get to booardroom and ears of those institutions that should be asssisting the black industrialist, and entrepreneurship program of government across different sectors. Tourism, Mining, Agriculture, Education, Renewble Energy, Construction, Digital Economy, Logistics and Real Estate. This is where our focus should be. Black South Africans have communal land which is under the custodianship of our Traditional authorities and therefore manages itself outside the often capital intensive formal land tenure system. Here lies the wealth of all black people more than in any other potential area of development.

✊🏿As an African American who was planning on moving to South Africa, these past few weeks have changed my mind. I use to believe South Africans connected with us well because of our similar fight and struggle against Apartheid. But what I am sadly finding out is they desire us over other Africans because of our connection to European American culture. What we and South Africans have is superiority complex picked up from our oppressors. They look down on other Africans as beneath them the same sadly I must say many African Americans do of the continent.. . I believe South Africa will be ruled again by an Apartheid govt who will not be as open as the former one. The sad thing is these people will give up what their ancestors fought for and don't realize what they are doing. I will change my plan to Tanzania or west Africa because they at least still have some dignity of culture. They rejected Julius Malema because he spoke of unity.. Racism in South AFrica is worse than America because you have a place where people fo color out number those who are calling for a seperate South Africa, those who have white only cities like Orania, those like the Boar farmers who deleted B-women and place their bodies in hog pens... Naw I disagree with you a lot here. South Africa Joburg may be a great place to visit but as an African American I dont plan to live in a place that will most likely be in some sort of Apartheid the next 10 years or is in a civil war because the( look it up) former Apartheid supporters want to make the western cape its on country!

For black diaspora. North Africa. Great for tourism and education and culture, especially ancient cultures before Arabs and post arabs.. egypt, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia etc. Southern Africa including South Africa. Great per western convenience infrastructure and safari. A lot of whites, 7 million Afrikaans Dutch people control things in that sub region that's why it looks like where you coming from. They control wild reserves, parks, the foods and farms and the economic system except politics. A great soft landing coming from the west. Little to no cultural shock and less racism due to more black around but they are just numbers, 55 million of them. Don't control much of the country besides politics and social media rants. East Africa, with Kenya as key player., then Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia etc. Great tourism, great culture and kwa swahili as main regional language as well as great money market controlled by black people. A little white control but mostly blacks. Seychelles, and zanzibar etc on Indian Ocean per good get away tourism West Africa. This is the region that is mostly black in every way and will bring most shock to a westernized person due to a polarized realization, no cushioning of landing. Straight and pure African with the good, bad and ugly all in one. The best market for blacks to invest in, but the roughedt to start up because of imbalance in infrastructure across the region ECOWAS. Say you in Nigeria and working on a project in Gambia it would be a challenge per flights there and likely expensive, then road networks per deliveries. . Though, West Africa has the biggest regional challenge due to effects of slavery added to colonialism, it is the best market for a black person to invest and make huge profits over a long time such as real estate or some services like transportation or medical. Do your research and weigh your options and list No where in Africa will be ready made. But west Africa has the best opportunity over time for a black diaspora but a hard start. Also check out the first black owned refinery in Africa in Lagos Nigeria that would supply gas to Africa, Europe and the rest from 2025. Dangote refinery. That too would be on wall street am sure in the near future. Blessed week ahead.

Social media rants unlike the one you just did huh? lol but no, I appreciate your analysis and your attempt at splitting the continent up directionally but you still left out many large areas and markets to consider and painted too broadly what is going on even regionally. For example, if the blacks control politics and therefore the nation-state of SA, couldn’t they easily just eminently take back all of those things whites owe, you know if they wanted to, which would mean they control everything, no? Sure, West Africa is predominantly black in economics, politics, tastes etc and YET look at what it currently has to offer competitively speaking, in large part merely extensions of Europe empires and markets. Africans everywhere need to decolonize and reconnect, however you choose to do it from wherever you choose to do it, DO IT. Hmmm…idk if I agree with you fully, there are some things that are allowed to persist in SA, that would lead to upright revolt in the US, SA is called the “rainbow nation” however, the only people who seem to be seeing “rainbows” are black SA’s. No other group, who are in all honesty, guests on the African continent & always seem to think counterintuitively to this way. That line of thinking is failing black SA’s. I’m confused as to what you are trying to assimilate into over there, im truly coming from a place of sincere confusion, but, to each their own, black Americans are a diverse population of thought & ideas in the US, so your opinions are certainly not alien, they just don’t feel appropriate from a historical & cultural difference of perspective between America & SA. As in, I’m not sure how much you’ve delved into their history as well as how much you understand the unchanging opinions of people who look like you from the minority ruling class. I cannot & will not assimilate, no amount of it will put you within the good will of these people, but again…to each their own.

im not quite sure, anything more would lead to a revolt in the US though since it appears too far gone. South Africa actually did have a revolt (as they say in SA, a “proper” revolt) for less than what we accept in the US on a daily basis. SAs have culture apart from apartheid and it’s legacy, maybe she wants to assimilate into that, no? A lot of people in SA would never even consider moving to the US given how terrible it is. @@KgomoMinah The DA got the same amount of votes as on previous elections. The ANC lost votes to the MK, and to the EFF before this past Election and still had more votes than the DA hence they are the ones driving the "GNU". More than 60% of South Africans still believe in the founding principles of the ANC but some have become disillusioned with the party hence the break away factions (EFF and MK). We are where we are today because of complacency in the ANC, and not because of anything the DA did - they did not gain any voters, they may have actually lost a few (I don't have the exact figures).
