Randonneuring is a sport that has been celebrated around the world for over a hundred years, yet today many cyclists may not have heard that there are organized rides for those wanting to test themselves in an all day, or multiple day, adventure. With 54 local groups in 33 states, Randonneuring USA (RUSA) has rides leaving from city centers across the nation. Henrietta helps explain what goes through her head as she prepares for riding a brevet and where her head is while she is in the ride.

This sport is super awarding and addictive. You'll find yourself riding distances that once seemed difficult to drive. You'll discover discomfort at any level can be overcome. You'll see how far you can push your body without lasting harm. You'll find yourself all over the world and meet people from all walks of life. Maybe you'll bring yourself to the infamous PBP and find out that it truly holds up to the hype. This really is the only sport that is designed to take you further than you ever thought you could.

Thanks for sharing your story ❤ I was into mtb the past few years and randomly signed up for a century ride this year with no long distance riding under my belt ever. I modified my hardtail, and then a few months later, I got a gravel bike. Started riding to covered bridges in my area in march, doing night rides,etc. I learned a lot about myself in this short time,learned from mistakes like bonking, met some great people and I've fallen in love pushing myself when I find the time ( I have 4 daughters ) so I find time to get all day rides in 2-3 times a month. Fast forward from march to today, and I have over a half dozen century rides with 3 of them over the 200k mark. Can't wait to pay dues ,get an official 200k ride in, and join all the lovely people who do this. You all inspire me!

Great job, sounds like randonneuring is right up your alley! Where do you live? We have a great national organization as well as so many great regional leaders to get you going when you are ready.

@dawnpiech5565 I live in Indiana and met some great folks at one of the Recon rides I went to for the dustbowl 100 event I did. I finally reached out to them as of yesterday. I didn't know what kind of cycling I'd end up doing when I first got into all this in March, but you're correct. This seems to be what I was looking for.

Hi, I’m also a Randonneurs from BC. I discovered than almost any cyclist can actually do very very long distances. Last year, at 69 y/o I did 403.75 km. Solo, self sufficient and no drafting despite being plagued with OA arthritis so therefore need to choose the event very carefully. This year I’m planning to do a 600 km with 500 km within 24 hrs. X my fingers. Curiously, I don’t chase the crowd but if an occasion shows up I welcome it. Cheers.

Can you make your content inclusive by formatting the auto captioning into closed captioning please? it is extremely hard to watch it relying only on the auto captioning sadly (I'm Profoundly Deaf)

Found it, but RU-vid won't let me post the link. It is Watts Frameworks. I had to set to highest quality, screenshot at 0:47, left-right flip the image, guess the three letters after "WA", and then luck out because google thought "WAFFS" was similar enough to "WA(shington) made bikes", and one link in the Images results had a similar looking logo and the builder's face was in the link.

Does it make it cooler to call it "randonnneuring", or could you have just as much enjoyment if you called it "bicycle touring"?
@stormshaman
@stormshaman 5 месяцев назад
Isn't the difference that bike touring is something you make your own plans for, and randonneuring is an organized long-distance ride you show up to and participate in?

@chris1275cc
@chris1275cc 11 месяцев назад
But that's the reality of it you can't be a fair weather cyclist and do rando/AUDAX. And honestly anyone put off because they don't want to ride with cyclists of lower ability, or "really OLD riders" would do well to remind themselves they used to be the former and (if you are lucky) you will eventually become the latter.

This clip feels like it was aimed at a certain type of person, the emphasis on gaia as opposed to personal triumph and bloody minded determination which is cool, can't necessarily relate but I get it.

Google ‘randonneuring’. The internet is your friend. Lazy answer: timed events that happen in a series of increasing distance - 100, 200, 300, 400, 600, 1200 kilometers. You have control points, and have to beat a cut off time. Touring is total freedom. :-)
