My bird learned to say "come here" which was my recall phrase, and now he just says it back to me; but if I sing his favourite song then he'll fly to me but he's just making me sing it for him because he dances before he flies over. I am flummoxed by it.
This is really helpful, thank you. Perfect timing too as I've just decided to start perfecting recall with my birds (they know it, but rarely perform it on demand). I'm definitely going to start training in different areas of the house now - hadn't thought about that, but it makes so much sense!
Do you have suggestions for parrotlet treats? My parrotlets find sunflower seeds too big and can't bite through most seeds. Im at a loss as to what to use for treats and rewards. Using their regular seeds is difficult cause theyre so tiny and its not rare.
I would get sunflower seeds that are already dehulled (usually found in the baking aisle or bulk department of a grocery store), otherwise I enjoyed using walnuts, pine nuts, millet, and sesame with them
