You joke but extremely limiting the distribution of pursuit could be one way to reintroduce it. They limited how many Pokémon get scald as a balancing measure (for better or for worse).

Mario + Rabbids this happens too. Freeze is an aggressively mediocre super effect in story mode, but it's actually amazing in Versus mode because so many more characters have strong techniques that they rely on & attacking is harder than using a technique due to mechanical changes. Icy Peach being a really strong character in her own right certainly helps. It's not mandatory but it's certainly much better. Scaredy Rabbid is a similar story, went from a decent ability stuck on a meh character to a staple on defensive teams.

Pursuit never needed to be nerfed, it was never overpowered.

Hidden Power was probably removed because of broken interactions with Dynamax

Oddly when the 'Buffed' it to base 65 that was an indirect nerf to Technician users.

Problem with CPUs is that they never switch unless it's impossible for them to hit you. Instead, they spam double team and luck is always on their side. Good luck in the battle tower lol

Yeah didn't they make so that greninja doesn't get scald anymore being it's best move since water shuriken is not consistent enough you if you hit all five times it's a 75 base power move on a +1 priority move (scald is 80 and doesn'thave priority) bust 70% of the time you'll only get 30-45 (35% for either base power) base power and sure it can deal with sash or sturdy pokemon but it's not even a guarantee to k.o. with 30-45 base power sure there is a 30% chance to get 60-75 base power (15% for either of the base power) meaning it's not very reliable same as all of the multi-hit moves but it gets the edge because it's 100% accurate and a priority move and other options are water pulse and surf with water pulse having only 60 base power with a chance to confuse and surf which has 90 base power but no secondary effect so pick your poison.

That’s the whole point of hidden power. It’s a mystery random type move that you have to figure out how to work with it. It gave pokemon that can only learn a few type moves an opportunity to use a random, unrelated type move.

Plus caused a lot of issues for example most legendaries couldn't even get the needed hidden power cause they had 4 perfect ivs.

It’s because it had no use in play throughs, VGC, idk about BSS, and it caused bugs

And before gen 4, Hidden Power used to also depend on the typing itself too because it could be physical/special depending on the typing compared to now where it's all special. Of course we eventually got Tera Blast, which most can agree is just as good if not better of a replacement for it. Rip Pursuit though.

It's enough to make Gholdengo question even switching in the first place, if they get double switched with a samurott they're just completely screwed. Don't switch, probably die to ceaseless edge. Switch, and you die to Pursuit. Scarf Samurott is already a pretty common option, now it would be even better cause it outspeed Dengo by 1 point.

Idk the hazard game problem was overall created by Gamefreak not Gholdengo When you remove a large majority of Defog users and give 70 percent of Pokemon spikes , and distribute rapid spin so little then yea hazards are always gunna be a problem Even Garchomp got spikes this gen it’s nuts

Gholdengo broken huurrrr durr, can't remove the hazards cause of him!!11!" when it's clearly not just Gholdengo's fault. Dengo is not overwhelming or overbearing, it's not like he's mowing through teams or anything, it's just that we have no options to remove hazards at all, and there's a load of good hazard setters now, which is exactly what I said in the original comment. Even if we did ban Gholdengo, that still only leaves us with like 4 viable hazard removers, which is so few someone could literally prepare a specific mon just to beat each of them, which is absurd.

I disagree with bringing pursuit back. While it would help with goldengo and ghost types in general, it would also negatively impact the viability of physic types which already aren’t good. There needs to be another type that resists ghost. Also Golds ability is broken and limits counter-play to an unhealthy level. Maybe if defog wasn’t a targeted move hazards could actually be manageable. I’m probably an outlier but pursuit and hidden power being removed was a great change for the game.

My baby also packed Heat Wave to delete Ferrothorn and Scizor without having to take all this Brave Bird damage, in exchange for the meager life orb's recoil one. Honchcrow used to be a menace in USUM.

Well yeah, Pursuit was completely broken: ie - to the point that near total Novices can wreck face. So hence it's bannage.

I feel that's more because we haven't had GOOD dark moves to compensate. Dark Pulse just isn't good enough for special attackers and 80BP is only good when it's backed by a positive effect. Knock off is good because it removes items and when it does it's 130bp.. Crunch can drop defense and flinch but it's not a great stab move for physical dark types but it's better than Dark Pulse.. Sucker punch is mainly used because it's a priority move but they knocked it's bp down some so it's eh. It's priority carries it. More dark mons would be good and more and slightly stronger dark moves would be better. We got Darkrai in OU and he is not exactly doing crazy much without a different ability or them just.. buffing Dark void back up some..

You also realize just how much better it is than Dragon when you realize Ghost's only immunity and resist share the same weakness, meaning you only need one moveslot to cover both... of course only to later realize that your only option for such a move loses you the game 30% of the time...

I feel you missed the part of the video that explains that they were using it on WEAK, resisted mon. It started to just be good chip damage. It wasn't too hard to see that it very much being used by anything that could use it effectively.. YES TTar was great with it.. But if it's doing good work on even neutral hits and is just dropping mons down to add to chip damage? It's starting to overstep a use. It even mentions being used on Black Kyurem which is kinda funny because everyone fixates on Ghost and Psychic and doesn't fixate on ANY other points made.

@@Frostbyte115 Counter to that I think it would be still be justified in the sense as that there were no reliable hazard remover in the meta where black kyurem chipping(gen5) was a big problem to everybody specially with perma weather and when added with pursuit it was absolutely terrifing how much damage you could stack. But, In the recent meta with the plethora of defoggers and reliable harzard removal than just rapid spin(in gen 6-7) pursuit maintained the "ecosystem" of ghosts and psychics very well and removed that damage stacking a lot as it was no where of a problem as it was before (removal of perma weather also counts) while also managing the hazard removal problem against ghost types which we see in the generation we do now and in gen 5 with the removal of defogs with many mons and ghosts types running around. Defensively, the types such as ghost and psychic are not the best but when accounted offensively they have the most spammable attacks with stab than any other type being second to ground type earthquake-electic thunderbolt maybe making it very easy to steam roll. Most psychics and ghosts also get the added benifit of having good coverage too and without pursuit you can see what's happening right now. yes pursuit was actually kinda really good than necessary at some point but it was never out of bounds even in gen 5 as it was required to keep lati and the gang at check. It could still be played around and good usage of pursuit required heavy prediction which could in turn lose you your pursuiter in the hands of kyurem and even lati. It was a double edge sword in a sense. It provided a play around powerhouses mons where it could chip off something even like landorus but that chipping was no where near the level it was mentioned in the video with normal Ou mons it showed a very specific pokemons which are you guessed it are powerhouses which are frail glass cannon type mons like weavile and stuff. On the overall scale chipping with pursuit was not nearly as big of a problem you point it out to be because it good chips accounted on a very specific "situations" and the point you're making kinda cherry picks that specially in the newer generation. The point your stating is part of the reason why pursuit was so great but not a defining factor of why pursuit was so good. Its very use was to keep these threats offensive threats from turbo blazing through your entire team which it did very well. Consequently most of those offensive threats happen to also be quite frail and as a result you have that and when it's coming off of choice banded tyranitar which has stab ofc it's gonna do a lot. Also, Viewing it as the only "psychic/ghost" counter is very disingenious for what it does and is added for imo. On the bigger picture it absolutely helped paint the game to be more complex and brought variation in gameplay with less steam rolls as it punshied people for making mistakes. It was a very good example of a good move doing what it was suppposed to in gen 6-7 meta specifically with the problem of gen 5 being removed.

People keep forgetting that dark is an excellent offensive type. When you get 80bp priority move on switching mons you can dish a lot of damage

Tera Blast is the new Hidden Power

if you think about it pursuit in a vacuum is a move with no drawbacks.... if you are in position it s a ko with no counterplay. hp imo was gone for limiting general coverage but can be back now that the are open strategies

I forget, how did it interact with Z-Crystals? Did it always use Normallium Z and turn into Breakneck Blitz? Or did it turn into its corresponding move? ...Oh, right, Z-Moves were _just_ boosted in power; they didn't have the bonus effects that Max moves did. So it was fine giving any Pokémon any Z-Move. Anyway, yeah, I definitely feel that they took it out to deal with the issues it caused with Dynamax, failed to re-add it outside of Unown (who needed it because it has no other moves) in BDSP because they didn't yet realize that they were going to force Pokémon to game-specific movesets when coming from Home and were afraid of HP mons from BDSP making it into SwSh, and then replaced it with Tera Blast for Gen 9, which is just plain superior anyway--it's stronger, it works equally well for physical or special attackers (and it takes both your attacking stats and your foe's defensive stats into account so even special attackers will usually hit Chansey for physical damage), and it's balanced by forcing your Tera. When Tera inevitably gets discarded, maybe they'll bring Hidden Power back, but probably with changes to make HP type customizable the way Tera type currently is.

Yeah but with knowing how game freak works the next game is going to cut out old mechanics and throw in new ones. If tera blast is removed there's going to be a hidden power shaped hole that needs to be filled. I feel like having it as a move is a lot better than having a whole gimmick based around it.

Pursuit alone required psychic types and ghost types to be phenomenal to be allowed to be good. Otherwise Tyranitaur could switch in and they would instantly die with no counterplay.

it most likely caused bugs with dynamax, like if you switch out a dynamax mon the game crashes or smth, especially since pursuit has a history of causing bugs like the acid rain glitch in gen 4, they probably gave up on the move if they ever thought to add it back to gen 9.

@@emmaramirez4330 Starting IV spreads still mattered Hidden Power only goes off of the the true IVs the Pokemon was caught with, Hyper Training does not do anything to what type the move will have I did initially think this Hyper Training mix-up was what the OP was referring to, but the fact they say they were having the trouble of needing to check for the right type on the Tapu Lele they wanted is what led me to the conclusion it was specifically about the move's base damage

@@seizalez8096 yeah, it's in game too. It's more popular in Japan tho, but that's also most likely the reason they focused on that since it's a Japanese game. Whenever there's a random change that might seem weird, remember GF mainly focus their balance changes in doubles 4v4 and singles 3v3

Honestly I think they just couldn’t code it in especially with Dynamax being the upcoming generational gimmick. Gamefreak is notoriously mid when it comes to programming and I can only imagine that pursuit by nature is a programming nightmare (see Acid Rain)

What are you talking about? Technician boosts moves that are 60BP or less.. doesn't boost moves to 60bp.. I don't know where multiple people are getting this from..

Basic issue is that Ghost is the undisputed best offensive type atm, and removing Pursuit massively exacerbating that issue.

I agree that ghost is crazy. Immune to trapping and removal of pursuit makes them surprisingly evasive and annoying to deal with at times. @@hppern3971

NO pokemon game has every pokemon from all 9 gens in it... so if the complaint is every pokemon not being available, NO game has every pokemon available.. so by that logic, people should be complaining about EVERY pokemon game...

Gamefreak has had it with people using it and they want everyone to use the new mons for marketing purposes.

It’d be more accurate to attribute that to the state of the current Gen 9 meta, which doesn’t favour Ttar at all. Even if Pursuit was back, Kinggambit would likely outclass it.
